Landing gear makes you that much of a bigger target?
-
Nah, I tried it with my 10 year old stick and it sure became more of an experience but the only difference to the mouse is the massive resistance, vibration, shaking and all that depending on the joystick you use. Mouse is light as a feather in comparison. The joystick didn't have any analog buttons or anything so I still had to raise, lower and twist using buttons on it and hey, that's just like tapping the keyboard buttons anyways. Unless you at least get analog twisting I’d say it doesn’t make much of a difference. Combat flyers may disagree but I’d still say it’s a matter of what you’re used to. I’m considering getting a somewhat cheap, stylish Cyborg FLY 5 joystick though for the immersion both as a helicopter pilot and jet pilot though.

Keybinding the optics/zoom based on alternative preset, your ideas?
Sneakson replied to tortuosit's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Aha, so temporary optics+zoom works now? I remember it used to be nearly impossible and if you tried the camera bounced around. Anyways I think zooming should be universally put on "Zoom in" and new separate infantry and vehicle locking commands be made and the "Lock and zoom" (or is it "Lock or zoom"?) be removed solving a lot of issues mentioned here: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=9561 -
‘Simulation fever’ - No bipods without weapon resting?
Sneakson replied to Mirudes's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
There's a mod that even lets you rest your weapon on the shoulders of your crouching teammates from what I've seen in videos. -
At this point BIS are adding SCUBA divers, submarines and underwater mines to the game. How much does that add to gameplay, REALLY? BIS want a fully featured game at every price. As sourced, 3% of frontline infantry are women already and it’s likely going to increase over the next 20 years. So how exactly does this not reflect reality? Not to mention that about 15% of the entire US Army are women throughout all of it except frontline infantry and the Navy and that 30% of medical and intelligence specialists are women. We ought to encounter more than some women. It’s also dumb when people say ARMA is all about infantry and then complain and having women in since women probably would be infantry. Shouldn’t you want that more than underwater mines? And then there are some people saying enough has already been done about infantry too. You guys would be arguing against yourselves if you didn’t have in common that women would completely ruin your experience. Not to mention that BIS are obviously the ones with the greatest capability to make women and make them as good as possible since we haven’t got their resources. Instead modders will have to put women in the next big Day-Z-like that hits the mainstream where women are more prominent and the request for women really starts boiling. It's also funny to hear people scream about the extreme detail that women must have considering we haven't even got working bipods or the simplification of vehicles that surely will endure until release. Anyways I’m confident we will see women in the game. 60% of people want it and the only sane argument people against it have is that it would take them some work. If BIS are any good at all they’ll do it without stopping their entire organization though. If they do it they would clearly set themselves apart from other military games and may even interest women now that Day-Z has brought ARMA2 into a lot of mainstream gamer’s libraries. If they didn’t I’d be really disappointed.

I don't think keyboard or joystick makes any difference other than for immersion. Unless you can bind analog cyclic and twist to it but tapping the keyboard is pretty much the same. 1st person but in some choppers you have zero visibility and pretty much have to be psychic to make some landings. Autohover when you’re already still, close to the ground, trying to land in a tight spot and afraid of tilting too much and making her drift away.

Turning your own radio off would be nice. Just say “stealth†and I think everyone starts whispering. Telling them not to call anything out no matter how urgent wouldn’t be very smart. It’s not like they say a lot of random things anyways right?
-
Hah? Not only was I obviously not being literal and you are obviously trying to cut off an argument you can't win but I'm also sure it's been said and is clearly what you guys are implying if you don't wish to see a single fighting woman in the game. A few pages back someone said we wouldn't think even 1% would be eligible to serve and that we would see 1% at the frontlines when we do in fact already have 3%. Obviously there's a lot of bubbling stupidity and ignorance amongst the people arguing against it. And as PN11A mentions we haven't access to the original models which strengthens my argument that BIS could do this better than a modder could. BIS does. This thread is about BIS making some women, not us.

So what source do you tens of guys saying there are no women in any army anywhere in the world ever have anyways? I did one quick Google... CNN says this: 14.2% of the United States Army are women. Am I reading that wrong? 16.6% in the officer corps and same throughout higher ranks and nearly 20% in both the reservists and National Guard. They make up 30% of the enlisted medical specialists. Only 3% have front-line duties but even so I should have encountered a couple hundred of women assuming the ARMA armies have the same composition. And this number could increase over the next 20 years. Is the myth still plausible? Not to mention that all of that shouldn’t even matter. We’re not soldiers, we’re gamers. I wouldn't assume 50% of ARMA-players are women but a nice percentage that only will grow in time and 50% of humanity are women. We’ve gotten ten different choppers but no women. ARMA will inevitably have women. Mods will be made and people will want women, inevitably. I think it would be a lot better if ARMAs experienced team made the effort to do it right instead of having people have to download mods to play as women in the next, mainstream-hitting (mainstream = gender equality) Day-Z-like… And why not? No women in the army isn’t an argument. All women are too weak isn’t an argument. It doesn’t matter isn’t an argument or this thread wouldn’t be over a hundred fucking pages. The only argument is that it would take some work but at this point anything and everything takes some work. BIS are game devs. They can do it. And it wouldn’t necessarily take every daylight minute of every employee until release to implement it. We’re requesting all sorts of details aren’t we? Damn.

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
Sneakson replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Hey by the way what does new about $400 graphic cards and processors score in the Windows rating system? Say a GTX770 and i5/i7 or something such. My system is currently 7.3 7.3 7.6 7.6 7.0 7.0. -
Keybinding the optics/zoom based on alternative preset, your ideas?
Sneakson replied to tortuosit's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I have no idea what you're writing. Click does what and hold does what? I think click to toggle optics and hold to zoom which are the defaults are nice. -
Implementing women wouldn't be difficult and since there's more than one guy working on this game it wouldn't necessarily take effort away from anything else contrary to some idiot’s beliefs. Model the damn body and slightly reshape all the clothing and make slightly different animations. There are already at least 4 male voice actors, getting one woman on the team wouldn't be a problem. Quite a lot of games have women in them and they're no harder to make than the shitload of men they're cramming in the game. Compared to making AI work, helicopters fly or programming a 12k view distance that doesn’t melt your computer instantly it’s nothing.

Options, audio, radio off.

I crashed a helicopter into the sea once and survived but was ragdolled. Unexpected to survive.

Bugfixes... noticed a couple. New options too... gonna try it out more extensively tomorrow. Really nice.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
No idea... 140 can't drop to less than 60 though! Unless it's an issue with the server or the connection. -
Just heard beta is out? Why no news thread anywhere? Wtf I just watched Day of the Dead and I'm all tired and... shit, was gonna go to bed early. Guess I’ll have to test it a bit now though.

Tracers could use a little tweaking (minor issue)

What you got against them lasers son? -
"Combat Stance 3 seconds" - will I need this?
Sneakson replied to tortuosit's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
It doesn't though hahaha! It only takes barely 2 seconds, at least it did yesterday and since it was implemented! -
Anyone holding off playing till the full game comes out?
Sneakson replied to zipgun's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm playing it. I want to report bugs and influence the development. I already think I've put a couple of features in the game more and less and intend to push for as many good ideas into the game as the devs can handle. -
Beta fucking out now? I'm not ready! :O

Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
With those specs I think you’re somewhere medium high but I really don’t know how laptop equipment compare to desktop. Medium 60 easily based on the processor anyways and probably mixed medium-ultra settings and no AA about 50-60 too. May even do solid high settings well, with some AA. Can't find much about that graphics card though. -
Dead Zone Folks: Why not use freeaim?
Sneakson replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Oh man. That's a lot. -
Would it really completely and thoroughly break your immersion to see a woman in this game? Is that really on the top of your immersion breaking list right now? You have to understand that it does come out pretty misogynic.

Key binding complexity, is that an issue?
Sneakson replied to tortuosit's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I'm very interested in controls actually. I'm using some different keypads so I've come across a number of impossible combinations, bugs and keys that can't even be bound at all to some commands. Some issues are also caused by the many invisible auto bindings. I’ve made a couple of reports relating to control issues and I have quite many unreported: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=9561 http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=6755 By the way some easy, intuitive ways to bind stances: ZXC: "stand", "crouch" and "prone" respectively for direct and intuitive access directly below your movement keys. Z, Ctrl+Z: "up" and "prone" respectively, tap to toggle standing or crouching and Ctrl+Z to toggle standing or prone all very compact on one key! I think Ctrl, Alt, Shift or any combination of these + one other button currently works mostly and two letters at once also work. I think that's complex enough.
