[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk
Sneakson replied to SaOk's topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
I've tried this a couple of times... was absolute crap. I'm playing on Elite though and maybe you're really not supposed to do that and maybe I just got really unlucky with enemies spawning in awkward positions. Gonna give it another try later because I love the idea of bigger, more open-world missions. Reminds me of some old StarCraft scenarios. -
ArmA 3 Beta Performance Tweaks and Settings Guide
Sneakson replied to incontrovertible's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I tried changing my theme to Windows Classic, solid desktop background, all appearance settings deactivated, all Nvidia settings to performance and all non-essential background progams and processes shut down... didn't make a difference. Whatever tweaking you do -- you do it in-game. -
Blue sometimes starts night making it impossible lol...

Why are the scenarios so unrealistic?
Sneakson replied to Tyrant-0's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
They're just showcases. -
Not much to do about multiplayer right now. Will most likely get better in time.

Aw... all places where you should have a specific stance at them should have the stance spray or alternatively no other stances should be allowed after a marker unless there's another marker... Right now I don't think it's perfectly consistent. Yes. I run into something, get stuck or smash my weapon into something about as often as I miss which leads to a restart. Auto weapon lowering and smoother movements when pressing up against objects needs to be done. Switching between stances is right now also sort of unfinished and if you switch to standing while sprinting crouching and then release W you will keep moving regardless which often causes me to fall off the bridge in Red. There are also some minor issues like the crouch into prone "throwing yourself on the ground" animation making the camera go into objects but that's pretty minor. 1.33.294 http://i.imgur.com/yVx74BI.jpg (363 kB) Only a couple of misses, I think. Moveshooting the final 4 works pretty nice. I think all records can be polished by 5 seconds by learning how to moveshoot better. We can do it. There don't seem to be many "legal shortcuts" though, not like Mirror's Edge speedruns. Yet anyways. My palm hurts now though. Never knew how hard my mousepad is. Probably gonna take it easy, maybe try out my other mousepad with a jelly palmrest. Never been superaccurate in games but I really think I've got my mouse settings right for relative CQB now. I'm at a very sensitive 10 cm/360 compared to CS players at about 20 cm/360 and Quake players at 24-30 cm/360. So we'll see if any oldschool vets check in soon. So yeah. Probably gonna do some Showcases and try the new official multiplayer map today. Seems nice.

Awww! I missed your score since it wasn't in the first post. I wanna be in the lead on all of them until CoD and Quake experts get in here and overkill my records. Gotta get right back on green then. Really hate the ending. It's brilliant but difficult. #6. Edit: http://i.imgur.com/zJ6zEHJ.jpg (404 kB) 1.34.484 Can still do it quicker... the first semi-hidden target is difficult and moveshooting the crouching target and the final targets seems to work. I tried recording lowest quality with Game Booster and it cut my framerate down by 50% pretty much so I guess I’ll have to look into a proper capture card when I upgrade my computer at the end of summer.

Vsync only limits your fps to 60. I don't think it has any big impact on framerate otherwise. ATOC has extremely small or no performance impact for me. What I mentioned: View distance and FSAA are the big baddies. Depth of field too. Anisotropic has the least impact. If you really want good performance with almost no visual difference from Ultra set all everything to standard except for textures to very high, object quality to high, terrain quality to high, shadows to high, depth of field off then balance your FSAA. Many settings can be turned from the lowest enabled setting to the highest with no noticeable performance decrease such as anisotropic filtering but also doesn’t make a visual difference so you may as well keep them low in case they do decrease the fps by 1 fps each.

I've always wanted to record gameplay but don't know a resource friendly way to do so. I've got Razer's Game Booster installed and think it records a lot lower quality than Fraps so I might give that a go later. Can anyone shoot the "Walk over" targets in Blue without getting a time penalty in Competitive mode by the way? Edit: I just sprinted into the Orange tower checkpoint and it didn't trigger. I've had this happen at the second target checkpoint in Green too. The checkpoint trigger lines seem a bit shaky. And 47.635. Still no way not to get the "Walk over" penalties. http://i.imgur.com/5WDLgLe.jpg (307 kB) Edit: 46.668... can still be better. Edit: Oh, Fraps only lets you do 30 secs... well here are 30 secs of a good run lol! In the end I missed the moving targets and ended up doing 50.X something but the beginning was nearly flawless despite the performance drop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WRobNqJB_k&feature=youtu.be I love it at 9 seconds in where you can actually shoot the guy mid-air... I was awfully slow at 14 secs though.

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
Sneakson replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
FYI I tried Razer's "Game Booster" tonight as well as some common Windows tweak like "classic theme" and "performance over appearance"... as well as turning of all background processes I didn't need. Increased available physical memory by 10%-15% of the total but had no impact on fps. -
It's about time for a new G13. Played with the Orbweaver extensively now though and works perfectly except I'm only using one direction on the joystick. Using angled joysticks accurately is too difficult. So other than the cosmetic nitpicks and the slight wobbliness of the thumb part it's perfect... I wonder if all are wobbly though. Not noticeable during gameplay.

Red Course: 53.539 Issue on red course: both standing areas on the bridge should be expanded... they are extremely difficult to get right. I've finally found the exact spot to stand to get the second two targets but miss the first spot 9 out of 10 times. Other than that it's great. Took me hours to get this right and I could only pass the bridge like 1 and 10 times as mentioned...

I'm pretty sure it will return when the damage system becomes more realistic. Right now you can't get shot down without dying AFAIK.

When can we begin to critique vehicles??
Sneakson replied to Wolfstriked's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
We are now Beta. Any and all issues should be reported in the Feedback tracker after confirmation or discussion with other players as necessary. -
Hey wait, green course time is only 1.46? Mine's 1.42.470 (Edit: 1.38.124) and I still can't hit the third of the final targets :( (Edit: now I can) Some issues with the green course: #9 and #15 are unmarked. Players see a waypoint but I'd rather have only some cone-wheel markers for Elite players. #16, #17 and #18 standing zones could be expanded or shifted slightly ahead. Sprinting through the finish line often causes it not to trigger... I may have had this happen on other courses too. You start off with something like 2 reserve handgun mags and 3-4 machinegun mags... starting off with the maximum balanced 8 handgun mags and 2 machinegun mags. Gonna try it a few more times then go to the next course. Ingame leaderboards sadly tend to get irrelevant quickly... with untouchably good players in the lead or, worse, cheaters. However I think a "percentile rating" would be great. Anyone here plays Tetris over at Tetrisfriends? When you win you get a message saying "You're better than X% of players" without mentioning any special names. A good way to take individual players and potential cheaters out of the spotlight and reducing stress by not showing any specific numbers of stats. That way it becomes more about performing well and then seeing how you compare to other players than trying to beat specific scores for the sake of beating specific scores.

7970 and i5... 20-30 fps on Ultra settings? Sounds reasonable. If you are playing on unmodified Ultra settings you can do a lot of tweaking though! Visibility 1600, 1300 and 100 instead of anything super high should make a big difference and FSAA x2 instead of x4 or x8 should too. Now you should run well.

Combined Arms is impossible on Elite until proven otherwise. I cleared the enemy camp with a single AI ally remaining and was ordered to retreat the moment the second wave of enemies started coming. In my extensive experience of Infantry your AI buddies also usually get dead really quick but other than that it's a very solid showcase. The Support showcase was terrible. It took me like 20 minutes before my infantry finally had reached the center and I went down to clear out the remaining enemies myself with guns taken from dead guys. Anyways I haven't played the news ones too much yet. Night was pretty fun but not having night vision was a big pain because all I could see was the enemies’ flashlight lights instead of themselves.

Ducking in vehicles (or: make suicidal soldiers want to live again!)
Sneakson replied to wiresnsnakes's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Tldr: you wanna duck in vehicles? I agree. -
My bad, whichever course has the "walk over" sign. The one where you start off by leaning with the pistol and in the very end you shoot many targets in the distance with the machine gun. I just couldn’t stand in the right place and got penalties no matter where I stood. The second "kneel" targets which I believe in the red course are also very hard to stand in the right place to hit though I eventually got it. Anyways I’m gonna go through these a bit more today. I noticed several places it was a bit difficult to stand in the right place etc. By the way I agree with the others that various interesting courses could be made other than room clearing-style courses. More ones about aiming, with static targets instead of obvious pop-ups… grenade throwing with potatoes also sounds fun. And having accuracy count at least in two or three steps (hit the wood targets, hit the person on the target and hit a deadly part of the target like the head) would be really nice. Oh and seeing high scores without having to enter the courses, the Rangemaster NOT starting while you're reloading which is really annoying, ammo resetting when you restart, openable doors and closeable hatches resetting...
-
I think they did screenshots and cropped out the times or something... someone cropped. I agree the courses could be made a bit better. Sometimes you have a very small space to stand on and it can be hard to know where your feet are without looking down, when leaning I almost always shoot through the walls and different target behaviors would be nice.

So... what's your Steam mileage so far?
Sneakson replied to Simas's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I very strongly hope ARMA3 won't have any achievements, tracking or such other than play time. Play time is OK. -
I have 4 speakers but all are in front of me. I’m not sure if that messes with something but I can barely hear the Rangemaster in the challenges talking unless he’s in front of me. To the sides and back he’s a lot quieter. Not ideal.

http://i.imgur.com/v3F35GH.jpg (764 kB) If I could get 36 or 37 I would be happy. Don't think anyone will ever get down to 33 point anything. Now I wanna have a snack though… maybe do other. Charming.

Green: 1.51.161 Red: 1.02.302 Blue: 51.181 Orange: 45.169 (Edit 43:715 lol) (Edit: beaten further down) Only played each one through completely a couple of times. We're supposed to be playing competitive mode right? In training you get bonus deduction for doing it right and in competitive you get reduction for doing it wrong as I understand right. Compared to Mirror's Edge Speed-runs the controls are so shitty! I get stuck everywhere, can't sprint under things and stop completely when changing weapons lol... Orange was the easiest and best with no shit to get stuck on. By the way where are you supposed to stand to shoot the guys in blue at the "walk over" sign? I always get a damn time penalty there.
