What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
Sneakson replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Singleplayer. Multiplayer is terrible for everyone but will probably get better in time and it depends a lot on server and number of players etc so it's hard to compare. -
Doors shouldn't push people over... Only very angry doors.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
But does it Crysis? £1000 processor ugh... what's it clocked to? And £1500 card too, no shit you're an architect. Indeed only professionals have rigs like that. -

What about auto reporting? And on what difficulties does "reveal target" work? All? -
http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=10856 Ever noticed how the targets disappear if you walk very closely to them? :) @rakowozz: How did you record gameplay by the way?

Realistic navigation difficulty setting??
Sneakson replied to Wolfstriked's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Errr... the military have maps, mr Columbus. Maps are essential for nagivation. I like the red circle: it signifies that your character didn't just wake up in the middle of nowhere not knowing how he got there but has a general idea of where he is. I wouldn't mind the option to remove it on any difficulty setting though but I definitely prefer to play with it on Elite. I absolutely think there should be an option not to sync markers... but realistically this would be normal in 2035. Even for everyone to have a personal GPS would be normal, unless you're playing a rebel. Recon players sound good but aren't there such players already? Anyways: I think all Blufor/Opfor high tech soldiers should have personal GPS and marker sync -- but for insurgents and such they should definitely not have it! Since the game is set in 2035 I would love to actually see useful high tech stuff like being able to send a video feed to your teammates and all of that. At the same time dirty low tech is also very engaging though and should absolutely be possible, but to be honest this ISN'T ARMA2 and I think it should set itself apart from it. And anyone who doesn't like it can mod it. -
The key assignment interface could really use some additional functions.

Nostromo is absolutely lovely! I recently upgraded to the new Orbweaver though and it is better in Nostromo in every way except a couple of cosmetic issues: the backlighting is snot green instead of lovely blue and the cable is unbraided which is surprising. The joystick is no longer customizable either and I’m starting to think using a joystick with your thumb on anything else than a console controller is a dumb idea. It’s pretty difficult. 20 keys, alt, space and the 8-way joystick, customizable length, palm rest angle and thumb length. I would say G13 has better functions than Nostromo but Orbweaver probably works better and sure as hell looks better. If I had a G13 I’m not sure I would upgrade it though. Anyways, I think a developer promised me a "remove keybindings" button. I should get back to him. I haven’t had any problems configuring the Nostromo using either old Synapse or Synapse 2.0. ---------- Post added at 18:53 ---------- Previous post was at 18:51 ---------- "Described feature (emmpty key preset) has been added to the game" Is it in there? I'm too lazy to start. -

Ops, a bit late now. I would register at any overclocking forum and ask in the laptop section. Overclockers usually know what they’re talking about and you should be able to get a lot of expert advice from people who do nothing but buy new laptops all the time there. I really can’t say exactly how laptop components perform and really don’t know anything about if there are other better, cheaper, better and cheaper or more price effective laptops on the market. I would recommend buying the cheaper one, trying it out and returning it if it doesn’t suit you. Most stores give you 14 days, right? -

Hm, okay... I guess the only one I don't get is reveal target. I also have never tried turn in/out. Gotta do that. -
You wanna know the truth? You can’t handle the truth! AND YOUR COMPUTER CAN’T HANDLE ARMA! 1) Everyone lags in multiplayer. 2) Don't use autodetect. 3) Tweak your settings manually. Number 1: lower visrange to 1600/1300/100. Number 2: turn FSAA off. Check my signature to get an idea of how your settings are supposed to be. Some settings like antistrophic filtering can be set to Ultra and only decrease your fps by 1 while Objects Quality over Standard, Terrain Quality over Standard, Shadows over High, SSAO over Standard and all FSAA or complete ATOC will make big fps hits. Try my settings and if you can handle it well then increase Objects and Terrain to high, SSAO to standard and FSAA to x2. If you can handle that too then start increasing your visibility distance little by little. All other higher settings will decrease fps a lot and not make the game look a lot better. I strongly recommend 40+ average. 50+ average fps will improve your aim a lot because the input lag decreases significantly making weapon sway and recoil a lot easier to handle. Anything below 30 fps average is unacceptable. I can’t tell how strong your computer is without knowing your processor but that should be enough for you to get some nice settings yourself.

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
Sneakson replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Hey anyways: a lot of people say that ARMA is very CPU intensive. I’m upgrading in August. Do you think keeping my 560 and only upgrading CPU could do well? Right now I’m on a 2.84 GHz processor. What would happen if I changed to some i7 processor? Say all of a sudden I had 4.8 GHz like the gentleman above. What would happen? What CPU to GPU balance should you have not to cause any bottlenecks? ARMA3 is mainly what I’m upgrading to play though naturally I’ll play all sorts of already released games as well as some upcoming games like Battlefield 4 and any interesting 2014 games I see including Dark Souls II and GTAV. Maybe it’s safest to upgrade everything to make sure I can also run games that aren’t ARMA smoothly? Experts? -
Taking the scroll menu to the chopping block
Sneakson replied to CiberX15's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Alright. Space to enter vehicle... directly scroll, space to maybe enter the backdoor even though you're looking at the front door... press and scroll the mouse wheel to reload mags and all that? Something along those lines sounds much better. Also pressing only space should only ever interact with the things you're looking directly at. That way there’s no entering the backdoor even though you’re looking at the front door but standing 10 centimeters too far away from it to interact with it though you are in range on the backdoor. Having space directly interact with things you’re looking right at, scroll plus space interact with things around you and pressing then scrolling the mouse wheel and pressing it again to do things like changing magazines would be alright I guess. It sounds pretty advanced though… I’d rather just have to work the way it does now with everything in one menu where all interactions are easily visible and implement the changes that pressing space without any scrolling should only interact with things you’re directly looking at and things greying out when they become unavailable in the scroll menu instead of disappearing. Because the actual issues we’re having right now is that sometimes when we try to do interactions like in other games it sometimes ends up doing something else and when we’re doing complex actions sometimes we end up doing the wrong one. I don’t see a need to do anything but change those two things and nothing more right now. Especially space becoming a standard action button is the most important change we really need. I like having everything available the moment I start scrolling and just having to scroll then press instead of pressing, scrolling and pressing to do some actions and having the actions split into two menus doesn’t sound perfectly intuitive either. I think I may start two separate tickets for space becoming an action button and for options greying out and still being selectable but being unclickable instead of disappearing and moving your selection somewhere else in the menu whatever it is called. That way we can get those two issues remedied without changing the system entirely which everyone may not want actually. http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=10815 http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=10816 Sorry if there are any similar tickets. Searched some any didn't see any anyways. -
Your card is 5 years? Naturally your framerate should improve. You should experience an instant about 50% gain, I think. I would strongly recommend increasing your framerate somewhat. I remember playing Crysis at about 20-25 fps back when it was new but in ARMA there’s so much weapon sway and recoil against small enemies with sharp reaction times. When I increased my framerate to average 50+ my aim became significantly better instantly and now there’s no way I would go back to playing it in 30-40 fps again. Note: I don't know a lot about ATI cards but did a comparison of the equivalent NVidia cards for what it's worth. What's your processor anyways? If it's similar to mine (2.84 GHz) you can check my sig to see about the settings you'll be running because I think the 7770 is about a 560.

Just saw the video now. Just perfect with the leaning! I have to say I do 33, 43 and 1:00 a bit quicker. One big difference is while I started by sloppyfiring all the time now I aim down the sights all the time. Both are good to master though. And I REALLY gotta learn how to do the bridge :( I think the only way to get a better time is to move and shoot at the same time more. Green has one pretty hard semi-hidden target early on and the ending 4 are epic shit but so nice when you get them all. Edit: OH! 1st/3rd person replays would be a stunning feature.

Taking the scroll menu to the chopping block
Sneakson replied to CiberX15's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I really like scrolling... I think Space should be an action button simply interacting with whatever you’re looking at. That way there can be no possible conflicts since you can only look at one object at a time and that’s how it has worked in all other games ever. All other actions such as reloading magazines or placing bombs shouldn’t be possible other than by scrolling and then pressing the mouse scroll wheel. When actions become unavailable they grey out until the menu is re-opened and do nothing unless they become possible again instead of disappearing leading to awkward mistakes. I don’t think it has to be any more advanced or dramatic than that, right? Instant interaction as well as a scroll menu where absolutely nothing can be accidentally triggered. As I understand twistking’s solution involves two scrolling menus hah… that’s just awkward. Instant interaction has been the norm since Doom and for any number of Roguelike-depth actions like changing your magazine to a different size magazine, setting off bombs or cleaning your ears you use a scrolling menu (though I also think any command in the scrolling menu should also be made into a bindable command!) Has there been any very similar suggestion already or should I make my own ticket? Wouldn't solve anything lol! Having a big circle of different commands that change at whim would be no different from having a list of commands that jump about. It works well in Crysis because there are only about 4-5 static options. Basically tapping your scroll wheel and flicking your wrist can make you instantly change modes. -
Oh, right. In case I didn't mention before the drill starting automatically is reaaally annoying. Quick-starting is great though. If you stock up properly you can carry about 9 spare mags which means at least 9 retries, probably many more. 5 minute courses, <100 meter standing shooting, a course where the targets are random every time, crouching or prone targets, more weapon choices and targets that you have to shoot quicker would be some requests though there’s naturally no limits to what crazy training scenarios there could be. Some training for moving through urban areas with windows in all direction would also be nice. Not to mention a regular shooting range where you can test any weapon at a range of targets. Also personally I would design the courses so the end is close to the beginning. Walking would be a bit more immersive than teleporting considering we have to restock manually anyways. After a few hours at the range the sun really changes in some of the courses. By the way did I mention Blue course sometimes starts off in the middle of night? It’s pretty darn difficult. Not sure if a bug or sort of an Easter egg. Some night courses would be pretty cool too as long as players resist the urge to increase their brightness settings.

Probably not difficult to mod.
-
Aye, red is a bastard. Always make sure you're only using the weapons you need and the biggest magazines available. Also the bridge zones are completely damn unreliable. If someone could point me to exactly where I'm supposed to stand not to get a penalty my retries would decrease by a lot. Sometimes I fall off too because of the unchangeable speed when changing stances. And yes, them rebellious doors occasionally open.

Oh, I've got 1920x1200. Just realized I've forgot to mention that in a lot of threads. I've got everything maxed except for visibility 1600/800/116, objects and terrain standard, shadow high, post processing all 100, SSAO/FSAA/ATOC off. Only done testing in Showcase: Infantry. Gonna have to try other Showcases, flying, night and test PIP and see if there’s any way to stress dynamic lights too. Forced? There are two blur sliders already. -
They look awful in third-person. If you move while doing one of them it aborts instantly causing a massive animation cut.

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
Sneakson replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I'm running it in 40-60+ fps with an average of about 50-55 though I haven't benchmarked a lot of battles. 560 Ti Q9550 @ 2.84 GHz 4 GB RAM Win 7 32-bit HDD You should tweak your settings. I'm running standard-ish settings but can even run high but don't because 40+ fps really helps your aiming. Lowest settings: 85 avg Low settings: 52 avg Standard settings: 47 avg High settings: 33 avg Very High settings: 29 avg Ultra settings: 22 avg I'm currently tweaking between a Standard-like setting and one that's more High-Ultra... gonna benchmark the framerate differences now. Edit: alright, some great settings for me are: Everything maxed except for Visibility 1600/800/100, objects and terrain standard, shadows high, post processing all 100, SSAO off, FSAA/ATOC off. Since you've got a better processor you may be able to handle some of this: 1600/1300 (-4 or more fps) Objects high (-2 fps) Terrain high (-4 fps) SSAO standard (-2 fps) FSAA x2 (-5 fps) With those settings you're not far from Ultra, visually. Terrain higher than high increases grass distance and FSAA/ATOC makes small differences but framerate and visibility are more important after the above tweaks. -
Civilian idle animations... they're dumb.

Has there been an improvement? I've lowered my settings so I wouldn't know. Anyways I'm also using the GTX 560 Ti (Hawk, I think) and a 2.84 GHz processor and I'm running it at standard settings in 40-60+ fps with an average somewhat above 50 in tests and that's alright. Now screen tearing is becoming an issue :( -
When I die in my mission it says "00.000" as if waiting for me to respawn...
Sneakson posted a topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hey, I just thought I’d throw together a quick mission to practice CQB and made a mission where all there is in the map is my spawn, a vas ammobox, two markers and an Opfor observation post with a radius spanning across Agia Marina. When I die it says “00.000†on screen indefinitely and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and shut down the game to progress since the game seems to wait for respawning even though I haven’t made anything such in the mission. Why? Edit: Oh, VAS has built in respawning... okay.
