Enemy AI is too good... can I dumb them down?
Sneakson replied to Digital_Aura's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Difficulty: Recruit, Enemy AI set to 0, Friendly AI set to 1 lol. Best for now. -
Sniper switching to handgun and never back
Sneakson replied to griffz's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Solution: add ability to zero handguns up to 2000 meters. -
Diablo 3 isn't an e-sports title but StarCraft II was and definitely changed Blizzard's mindset for all time. Instead of having any surprises whatsoever I actually knew about exactly all content in D3 before the game was even released and there were already lists of all items in the game and so on and I wasn’t even following the game closely. They avoided any and all surprises and because they had to carefully balance absolutely everything for PvP (which they failed anyway) it ended up being extremely dull with weak skills and uninteresting items. And NO news. StarCraft II had a very entertaining but short, unreplayable campaign with uninteresting story. They also changed the dark setting of StarCraft 1 to be a game for all ages and started adding crazy lore-breaking units like the Viking transformer or recent Viper that can sit still in the air while dragging a hundred ton tank with its tongue… When I imagined StarCraft II back in the day I thought it would look like the CGI did in StarCraft 1 but instead the graphics were dangerously close to WarCraft 3 and Blizzard spent all their resources on e-sports instead of making a campaign that was more than just passable. And the HotS campaign is the worst strategy game I have ever played, no shit. Can’t imagine how it took them 3 years to make it. Easier than anything. Blizzard were the Masters of the 90s with Diablo, StarCraft and WarCraft but I have no hope of them ever releasing a revolutionary game again though I will give them a last chance with WarCraft 4. StarCraft II: WoL is still an 8-9/10 game in my book because it was such a step forward from StarCraft 1 but HotS is a 3-4/10 and Diablo 3 somewhere around 5/10. Anyways... that's really why not all series should go the e-sport way or worry too much about the future of their meta-games in multiplayer, PvP and so on... E-sports make devs pussies afraid of making any big changes that would risk their multimillion investments and that leads to very “safeâ€, uninteresting games and in the long run leads to downright boring games and leaves both the company, game and players with boring games that no one buys and everyone loses just like in any situation when devs play too safe, quite ironically.

You know there's some money in e-sports right? And the players are popular with the ladies. E-sports money awarded per year: 2000: $349’000 2001: $374’000 2002: $467’000 2003: $463’000 2004: $1’058’000 2005: $2’286’000 2006: $1’893’000 2007: $1’845’000 2008: $1’663’000 2009: $1’151’000 2010: $2’536’000 2011: $7’331’000 2012: $10’135’000 StarCraft II tournaments awarded $500'000 in 2010 (6 months), broke the $5'000'000 barrier one year ago and since then it's grown to $8'000'000... three years. The SCII World Championships prize pool was $250’000 in 2012 and will be $1’600’000 in 2013… and that is just the World Championships tournament.

100% wrong. Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Gears of War, Halo, StarCraft, Street Fighter and Warcraft-likes are all today designed for e-sports. ARMAs vanilla gameplay is way too slow and uninteresting for e-sports. Not to mention controls are currently terrible so even if you were to design a suitable arena it still couldn’t play like the others. And modded ARMA is even more hardcore. E-sports ruined StarCraft II and even Diablo III because Blizzard completely started ignored making the game enjoyable for non-competitive players.

No. Not suitable.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
No, I wasn't implying he should buy it all at once. And it’s still good value! He probably already has some of this like the chassis, screen, mouse, audio and such and I was only recommending some things in case he didn’t already have them because they’re sweet. And then I5-X670ks are great value for they do, Vengeance memories are cheap, small SSDs are absolutely worth it and finally he can spend as much as he wants on a graphics card and will have a computer that he won’t have to upgrade for years and when he finally does all he will have to think about is a new graphics card because the other components will stay strong even longer. And naturally if all you need is the processor, memories, SSD and graphics card all of that costs $440 plus a graphics card so if you wanted you might end up at $900-ish. Me personally I’m buying nearly exactly what I wrote except no screen, audio, SSD or PSU and everything except for the mouse will be only a couple of months old at most and even though I’m getting an i7 instead of i5 (+$150), a more expensive graphics card than I would recommend others (+$100-250, it’s a $600 card) and both a somewhat expensive chassis and mouse it still only lands at just short of $1600 which I think is reasonable because I’m still within the borders of where the cost starts skyrocketing without adding much strength. Basically I consider what I’m buying a very strong gaming build. I set my budget at $1500 when I started planning it so it’s not a budget build but it’s also not a hardcore build. My parents have a $3000 portable computer which they bought 10 years ago, that’s more along the cost of what I would consider hardcore. It’s naturally a work computer though, not gaming. Anyways considering you’re probably not going to need all of the things I wrote I really wouldn’t say it isn’t budget considering what you get. But it is gamer oriented! I saw a salary of about up to €250 a month so you can probably get the motherboard and processor in two months, the memories and SSD in one month and finally get a graphics card in one or two months more and then you’ll have a really stable build that you shouldn’t have to worry about for some time. Additionally you (Doc) may be able to do well with both the HDD and DDR2 memories, so a motherboard, processor and graphics card may be all you have to think about so then you'd be down to like $550... Anyways I'm consufing myself with all of these numbers. Point is I wasn't saying he should buy it all at once because that would be an expensive gaming build but only getting the parts he needs should be price efficient. If you want to go cheaper than that I can’t really recommend anything because I typically only stay educated about the newer components. -

Well, okay. Assuming you’re on a gaming budget I’d recommend this: Z87-G45 Gaming Motherboard I5-4670k As expensive graphics card as you can afford with all other components considered 2x4 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz RAM Some SSD A cool, solid chassis 600 W PSU And on the desk: 1920x1080 screen Comfortable 1600 dpi or higher 5/7-button mouse Steelseries QcK mousepad Some decent speakers or headset Motherboard and I5 will have to be bought simultaneously. Then I’d say graphics card, then SSD, memory, screen, mouse and finally audio. Chassis whenever you run out of space in your current one and PSU whenever you run out of watts lol. I'm buying a set-up similar to this but a bit more expensive and not a whole lot stronger because I want some specific components. -

First of all Wastelands always lag probably because the scenario is poorly designed and because multiplayer in general is a bit choppy. I don’t know anything about that graphics card but ARMA seems to mainly chew on CPU. So upgrade your processor, then your graphics card if needed and naturally also new mainboard if a newer CPU won’t fit your current sockets. I don’t think ARMA seems to use a lot of memory which is mainly for multitasking but SSD discs are really worth the price because they make your computer boot a lot quicker and if you install ARMA on it I bet loading times cut down somewhat. Also remember that a nice screen, mouse, keyboard and sound is pretty important for gameplay too. And that you may have to change power unit if you get more power intensive components. -

I'm gonna get into social gaming but at least not until Battleye is in and maybe not until retail release. -
No more exploity than zooming out already is for the people that use it compared to those who don't really. And it would add realism. By the way that program doesn't seem to give any more accurate values than the game already has if I measure it using the compass. Not sure if that is an improper measuring method but if I set it to 90 I only get like 84 degrees fov and it’s a bit of a difference.
-
You can't configure the zoom fovs though can you? I'm thinking 50, 100 and 200 could be pretty nice though I really don't know what the game looks like using 200... Anyways notepadding my values doesn't do a thing at the moment... not sure what I’m missing.

Why are the scenarios so unrealistic?
Sneakson replied to Tyrant-0's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Wtf is wrong with people... They are SHOWCASES and that's a good excuse. They're meant to be 5-10 minute displays of the engine and content and the devs probably threw them together in a couple of days each and didn't have time to write a big realistic scenario for each and just went with something that played well. Most Alpha demos, Beta demos or just about any demonstration build I have ever seen has not been perfectly representative of final gameplay not to mention a lot of final demos even don't contain levels directly out of the actual game even. You show up in your Boss’ office with something that is f**king impressive already and not some 2/3 complete bullshit with the excuse you wanted to create a really realistic demo that most people won’t spend over 10 minutes with. -
Yeah, well, no. No DOS.

He should just have dragged it into his inventory instead of whatever he did there to start the loading animation... right? Avoidable I think. -
Urgent, need hotfix: 4x 3d scopes allows TrackIR users to look around freely in 4x
