vcomAI is part of the mission. there is no need to run it as a seperate mod on your server/clients. maybe that fixes your problems...

I did comment that line out. now the arsenal is gone. how do I define the loadouts? in the editor the units have vanilla loadouts but when they spawn they get stripped off their gear.

hey thx for your reply. 1) okay I understand your reasoning. However I respawned right after joining without completing any missions and received the squad leader inventory. I will doublecheck the settings and try to reproduce it. 2) at least I know there is nothing special to be done. I will set up the server from scratch again. maybe that fixes it.- 115 replies

Hey t-800a, I have not been able to test your missions in a mp scenario, yet. But I did load it up and it looks very interesting for a small group as an alternative to DRO. So first of all thank you for working on this and releasing it to the public :) As I said I did some testing with this mission and I have 2 questions/issues/remarks: 1) I loaded it up on my local pc as a listen server with vanilla factions using the workshop subscription. When I first spawned in I was only wearing underwear and had to outfit myself in the arsenal. Then I respawned again and suddenly had an vanilla Squad Leader Inventory on me. I did select the squad leader role on the role assignment screen. I personally would not mind people spawning with equipment according to the role they selected. However I always spawn with an empty inventory and not always will respawning fix it. Furthermore I cannot select the RCO and many other "squad leader items" in the arsenal but for instance only the ACO as a scope. Not sure if that is intenional. 2) I downloaded the Pbos from your first post and put all of its content in the mpmissions folder of my dedicated server. I have to admit I am a noob when it comes to hosting Arma 3 dedicated servers as mine has been running only for about a week now. But I did the same with the Liberation and a bunch of other pbos and I can select all of them under #missions but yours won't show up. So I am probably doing something wrong and/or there is something special about your mission? Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction. I will be sure to keep an eye on your project and look forward to trying it in a mp environment :)- 115 replies

Old Bear: thank you! I guess I can figure what the conclusion might be ;) The charts say it all. The FX does perform poorly and for that matter does not justify upgrading my Phenom II X4 965BE (OC) either. Would have been so easy to just pick the most expensive AMD cpu that my board can hold. Guess now I am back to buying Intel... I just don't understand why they (the polish guys) don't benchmark the recent haswell intel cpus. Also find it interesting that for A2:OA there is a significant performance gain between i5 and i7 and for A3 it seems not present. Unfortunately the french guys don't give the frequencies. so it might be due to higher frequencies. I can't believe in A2 the VR engine supported hyperthreading and now in A3 it doesn't. Pure speculation though :( -

Anybody playing with a FX-8350 or high-clocked six- or quadcore from AMD and feeling it limits? Because that would be the cheapest solution for me, since I could keep my motherboard. The Techspot benchmark says it does not make a difference. but i don't really trust that benchmark. -

so what cpu should i buy? i5 k modell or i5-4670? Or should one go for Hyperthreading? i7 or Xeon v3? guess graphics wise GTX 770 or 7970Ghz should be sufficient. I am really not sure how much cpu power I need and if I should sacrifice some cpu power to go for Hyperthreading for some other games, that I may play in the future. I am really not keen on spending 500 bucks on a Sandy Bridge-E :( -

What is your cpu? I doubt you can play A3 on ultra settings on a 6950, at least not on altis. I have a 6950 (unlocked @ 6970 and some OC done) and can hardly play on standard. but I just have a Phenom X4. Anyway my VRAM is never filled more than about 1,5GB. For RAM I am not sure but I have 8GB in my system and that was always enough. Over at the techspot commentary section a Bohemia DEV said that PhysX is completely done by the CPU but it might be done by Nvida GPU later. I always thought I would benefit from buying nvidia over amd because the cpu load would be decreased. for now that is not true. I find the techspot cpu testing very irritating as well. For instance they have benchmarked the cpu overclocking potential of the i7 on page five. In the first diagram on page five they say the i7 @ 3.5Ghz delivers 49fps and 53 @ 4Ghz. The next diagram where cpus are compared @stock frequency shows the i7 with 53fps for 3.5Ghz while settings and gpu are the same as before. If this is a mistake the difference between i7 and FX-8350 is barely noticable. And why did they not benchmark the current i5-4670k modell? it would have been very interesting to see whether there is a difference between i5/i7 and ivy/haswell and see how much OC does for every modell. However this shows a completely different picture. >50% single thread performance gain for the i7. Now what is true. Is a 8350 (or 6350 or 4350) just as good for arma as a i5/i7? Because than I can just get a new CPU instead of new plattform. Piledriver is way cheaper then haswell, too. I also doubt their gpu test. A friend of mine played exactly the same mission they used. He has an i7 extreme and a GTX 670. He can play ultra on 60-80 frames... -

I advice you to test in the editor. Place yourself somewhere on the map (start with stratis) and get to higher grounds to check the settings. From that you can try putting units down. I get decent fps (35-50) in BI's showcase missions. So it is in general possible to make the game playable. But I agree with you guys that not all user made content seems doable for a3. Especially the heavy scripted armory scenarios. Think the DEV's should put up a guide what option is heavy on gpu and what is heavy on cpu and how to test it. Either in editor or maybe make a benchmark mission. Maruk has already pointed out a few tips in the "nvidia driver thread" in Arma 3 General. These helped me. I have a very similar system to yours. will post my settings for you to compare when i am at home tonight. -
found some interesting benchmarks for singlethreaded testing: http://www.cpu-world.com/benchmarks/desktop_CPUs_single.html http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html the first one does not cover the most recent cpus but the second one seems pretty comprehensive. Although these benchmarks don't show 100% how the cpus perform in arma, i think these benchmarks can help a bit in choosing a good cpu. Now what we need is the gain in performance when the K Models are overclocked. That would be interesting. Anyone with a K-Modell wanna benchmark his/her cpu at cpubenchmark? :-)

guess not. since it is a steam thing. you get four by playing the rest through booster packs (rare) or trading.

guess the only reason to get an i7 is that you might be able to oc it higher (because of highter base frequency). Since arma (barely) only utilizes one core, power per core is essential. I'd still go with the quadcore. Isn't there a performance gain per megaherzt between the i5 generations. So wouldn't a haswell i5 with the same frequency be faster then a sandy bridge? Or in other words does it really give you an advantage that you can clock the sandy bridge a little higher then a haswell?

than why not go with the FX 4170? http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/303/AMD_FX-Series_FX-4170_vs_AMD_FX-Series_FX-4350.html since we are at it: I have a Phenom X4 965 BE. From this it seems changing the cpu would not change anything. 2% in singlethreaded applications does not sound like a lot. And I have my Phenom OC'ed to 4Ghz. Thx to the free multi that was easy. -

I guess a connected controller could be the reason for you camera movement. Check controls -> controller and deactivate whats there.
