I'm going to start this thread by saying: - I realize this is an alpha - I realize the game is not complete yet - I realize what I payed for is a work in progress and I'll do my best to help with bug finding. That being said, I continually crash when trying to join a wasteland server. Or else crash within a few minutes. All other game modes seem to work quite well with no crashes. I see nearly full servers so most people must be able to join. Any ideas??

All other game types /missions / servers not running wasteland seem to run fine (some servers have lag spikes but no crashes) Thanks for the tip I'll try your method. ---------- Post added at 02:44 ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 ---------- I also get the "'sound counter not found' error on starting Wasteland maps" I'm fairly sure everything is up to date but I will double check.
  3. Would love to have a nose cam option for helis and vehicles as well. If not nose cam then a camera viewpoint the same as the normal 1rst person but positioned about 2 feet forward. When flying I believe it gives a better sense of situational awareness without having to resort to full third person. It also makes flying the helis and driving a pure joy! What do you think for a server option?
  4. Actually I think I don't think I formed my post properly. I meant actual viewpoint, not any special surveillance equipment that would offer any optical advantage over a normal 3rd person view of a Heli, just more comfortable. If 3rd person was disabled for all vehicles and helis on a server to ensure realism then yes this option would be have to be disabled as well.
  5. I can magically see around corners, look over hills when approaching enemies, and get a god like view of the battlefield Via 3rd person. Heaven help my nubile mortal adversary stuck in "real" mode and only using 1rst person. Why, Just why… Please tell me the main reason why 3rds person even exists? Military simulator: realism, awesome sfx, tactics, realistic ballistics, life like maps, authenticity of weapons and damage,,, & god like ability to see around corners,,, (facepalm) Please don't polarize the server list by making it a server option. Deep down you know there is no place for it in a realistic game, remove altogether.
  6. This point keeps coming up but it does not address the issue. I don't want to use 3rd person, or constantly switch back and forth between the two to keep at an even playing field with the enemy. It cheapens the experience. If BI implemented an option to remove all foliage, would you say "ok I'll just use that setting as well because everyone else has access to it " Or "hey man it's a free world, just pick servers that don't enable the option of foliage removal" ?
  7. I agree they do seem a bit weightless, I was doing some ridiculously reckless maneuvers in a little bird and just could not seem to crash it. The responsiveness and controls seems good, although I still feel the yaw control feels strange compared to other flight games' heli controls but I can't say I've dove in deep enough yet to complain about it. (or flown a real heli before)
  8. Nope just trying to make the game more immersive and fun. It's more immersive and fun when in 1rst person. If others are using 3rd person to see around corners and over hills then they have an advantage. When it's just a server option then the servers become split causing an unneeded divide in the possible servers to choose from. 3rd person seems to have no real use in Arma other than to determine "situational awareness" which can easily be achieved by holding alt and moving the mouse while in 1rst person, at least in infantry anyway. Just because someone has been playing since the very first operation flashpoint back in the good old days, doesn't entitle them to scoff at newer players' opinions and think they know what is best for the true arma. Sometimes old habits die hard and it takes and outsiders unbiased gaze to realize what is cheapening the game. (ie omnipotent powers of vision) If anything make it only available in super newby simple mode.
  9. to supplement your point: Also Horse drawn carriages have been around along a lot longer than cars, so maybe we should keep on using them for basic means of transport? Just because something was implemented in the first series does not mean it's the best. Old habits (crutches) die hard , but sometimes they are necessary for advancement. If it is indeed meant to be a simulator, in real life you don't have a floating camera following you around the battlefield.
  10. This is what I said in OP, it forces polarization on the server list. So you are limited to half (or whatever the ratio) of servers to choose from.
  11. Why not just have a zoom out option that widens the field of view but still from the same perspective? That way you can be more aware of your immediate surroundings but not have the advantage of being able to see around corners and such.
  12. But my enemies will be using 3rd person and have an unfair advantage. I don't want them to use it either.
  13. First Overall impression is: Excellent! Of course there are many small bugs to iron out but for an alpha release this has amazing potential.

    Voice Acting has got to go.

    Saying it's better than arma 2 is not really any sign of improvement. They are robotic but overly dramatized. Gets very annoying within about 2 min. I instantly mute, never to be used again. Waste of CPU power, total fail. On a side note to make it sound more realistic, the sound designers need to clip each word tighter, you do this by shortening the waveform in a wave editor on each end (mostly the tail end) by using a a very short fade out. This will reduce the robotic feel (attack...that...rifleman) to (attackthatrifleman)

    Crashing...A lot.

    I'm also crashing a lot in mulitplayer (have not yet tried missions) CPU:3770k GPU:6870 RAM: 16gig 4x4 gskill 7-7-7-21 OS: Windows 7 64 bit Latest ATI drivers via catalyst I have tried the following to no effect: • Disabling all firewire and anti virus • Launching application as administrator • Various restarts
