    Nobody Playing Arma 3?

Lol It's true though. The in-game browser is spotty at best and sometimes downright unresponsive. Please fix. or rely on a third party for even that?...uggg

For the low FPS issue , there is hope!! Only it will most likely come in the form of more simplified maps. As of now you can get 80fps and up easily on Breaking point mod with the thirsk map so in theory high framerates should be possible. I'm not sure the relative translation though or how much is needed for the Rift to look good. Does anyone have a relative translation of how many FPS on a normal 1080 screen translates to the Rift? T
  3. I believe lack of reverb and sound bouncing has a lot to do with with static feeling of the sound scape now. When an intense firefight is happening say 600m away, in vanilla Arma 3, it just sound like a bunch of normal gunshots with the volume turned down. When I see real life battle footage the sound of distant gunshots sounds kind of like pitter patter as the noise bounces off valleys and such. The JSRS and SoS sound mods seem to add this effect and it really gives a sense of realism. Also the gun noises are all very similar throughout the range of weapons it seems. With arma 2 at least you could listen and say "yep thats an akm or thats a FAL" In arma 3 I'm having a hard time differentiating even between 6.5 and 5.56 calibres. T

    Third person mode & realism

Does anyone have a good way of filtering 1rst person only servers? as of now I don't think there is a way or is there? please let me know. So people are not really "telling you how to play", just frustrated that most servers have 3rd enabled as they cater to the masses, so 1rst person players feel they have to play in 3rd person to keep they playing field even. Please feel free to enjoy that magic periscope crutch. But give us a way to find 1pp servers :) Also I think some of the fanatical bias towards 1PP comes from the visceral and intense experiences that people get from playing 1PP on Arma 3. Once you get a taste for it , playing 3PP seems to dull the senses and go into "relax easy mode". So some people (myself included) feel compelled to get others to play in 1PP. Similar to people who suddenly find religion and with wide glossy eyes try to get everyone else to convert and see the light ;) T

    Third person mode & realism

Not forcing anything merely stating that it should not be default setting seeing as many people want it only active on recruit/noob settings. But wait you say there server count shows different, that is because it is default and no way to filter 1PP servers. This isn't junior high debate class, you don't know how to use "citation needed". I clearly stated "from the results of that poll: Most people* " and you say citation needed?..uhh the citation is "the referenced poll" so nice try but no. I agree the devs are most likely have bigger fish to fry at the moment but would it be so hard to put a check box in a server menu or leave default off? As I stated earlier I don't care if you like to play 3PP, it's just that there many who Express the need to play 1PP but are frustrated with the options. This can easily be addressed with a few small steps. Here are 2 very recent posts (note this an "internet citation" :)) May 23rd http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?178135-First-person-only-and-no-tags-servers May 18th http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?177898-New-Player-friendly-hardcore-servers T

First person only and no tags, servers

Hello Ivan, I feel your pain, it just seems so very wrong to waste such an amazing game on 3PP exploits . Anyway my new bible and hope for the whole arma series lies with EUTW. Try them out, they Host CTI (capture the island) games with 3pp disabled and no enemy tags. It's pretty intense. Sealz runs an american server for them but sadly it is not populated very often. The german servers though 50 players and often full during european times. I'm in north america and I use this to check if their servers are populated: http://www.gametracker.com/search/arma3/?query=3p+off because the Arma 3 in game multiplayer menu is woefully buggy / terrible and does not show all games being played, even through precise word filtering. Third person mode & realism

The first thread has everything to do with it. If 3p was only enabled on recruit level only, many many full servers would be 1rst person only. Any way you slice it from the results of that poll: Most people want 3PP only enabled on recruit. That shows a strong support for 1PP . BI does nothing. In the current state 3PP is enabled by default on all but elite if I'm not mistaken. Checking how many current 1PP servers when by default 3PP is enabled is a poor test. As in many digital set ups scenarios the "default" is what people mostly use, call it sheep mentality or the will to play it safe. Change the default and change the way the game is played. It's human nature (see RSA and the default Dual_EC_DRBG encryption scandal for more on this) T

    Third person mode & realism

This is my sentiment exactly. I have nothing against people playing in 3rd person mode, the same way 3PP players don't care about someone using 1PP. It's the unfair visual advantage of having the magical periscope to survey the battle field. As of now there is no way to filter out 1PP locked servers. If they could just put that little checkbox in the multiplayer server list, I'm sure the 1PP servers would fill up. There are plenty of people who prefer 1PP but since it's default 3PP enabled, then 1PP players are forced (if you want to play on a populated server) to play 3PP, or else risk get spotted with the magic periscope over hills and around corners. Also sneakson, I wouldn't say the Majority prefers 3PP, any polls I've seen about the issue shows a huge support for 1PP on regular and up servers. POLL: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?149711-3rd-person-view-and-difficulty-levels Here is another one I found: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault/197516-arma-3-difficulty-poll-3.html one more about wasteland: https://zombies.nu/community/threads/3956/ So anyway, I have not seen a poll yet where people prefer 3PP over 1PP,

    Third person mode & realism

Attention 3rd person players: Here are some guidelines to playing 1rst person only with a better situational awareness and comfort level… of course while feeling the intensity of first person. 1. ALT Key: yep it seems obvious but this is the "freelook" key and enables you move your head and look around your surroundings, much like in real life. 2. Minus Key: This is the "zoom out" key, it give you better situational awareness in close quarters, behind rocks or bushes. I personally map mine to an extra mouse button for ease of access because I use it often. 3. Headphones: Much better ability to locate sounds around you, gunshots, vehicles etc. And also hypes up the intensity :) 4. Time: Just give it time brother, you will be hammering away at your enter button for the first few hours when you want to look over a hill or wall, but trust me, once you let go of those crutches, it's pure combat intensity, how arma was meant to be played :) T
  10. At very very least, one of the sound mods (s.o.s / j.s.r.s) should be hard implemented in to the current game. And also the average consumer should not have to rely on mods to make the sound decent, it should be in vanilla. The current sound pallet is extremely dry and it really takes away from gameplay. I recently started playing on a server that allows for sos/jsrs and it's just a world of difference, it's feel like a legit battle zone now. The reloading direction and volume, still...still after how long from the alpha has not been addressed, is it really that hard to fix? Whomever is in charge of sound design needs to let go and accept the cold hard truth that sound sucks in current arma 3 and needs to be looked at and dealt with. Hire one of the sound mod makers. T
  11. a Filter in the Multiplayer interface to filter Servers that are running First Person only game modes. Thanks
  12. Hey! Great job on the structures and overall tone (weather, landscape, smoke, blueish hue,).. It feels like "the Zone" :) I'm very much looking forward to this!! I for one would like to see more classical weapons but thats just me. Keep it up :D
  13. JohnPL, Skeakson, ok my rig is good. How about to the fact though that I almost doubled my fps by playing on a small ported arma 2 map, are you guys experiencing any of the same things? I see kieran89980 stated above he is playing 50-60 solid on takistan. So can we assume the map / map complexity / size / amount of buildings most likely has something major to do with the fps performance? Is there any indication from the developers that steps are being taken to remedy the situation? T
  14. Lol :) I honestly don't even know what you are talking about? Are you saying my rig is good? It's fair I'll say but the graphics cards are pretty old compared to what people are using lately and I don't think the crossfire is doing much. Anyway I know the meaning of spectacular and my rig is not that. "Gaming", I don't even know what you are on about?
  15. I'm comparing Arma 3 to Arma 3? What are you working with? Breaking point is an Arma 3 Mod and a fairly popular one from the looks of server population? I find your Zombie Meme a little distasteful, but to the point. I'm pointing towards an Arma 3 multiplayer game mode that is in fact getting over 60 fps. Although You may call it find it an abhorrent aberration of the purist comp stomp style, by examining why breaking point thirsk is getting good fps could lead to answers as to why current mulitplayer fps is lacking in performance and point towards a viable solution for Altis and other maps moving forward.
  16. TacBF is one of the biggest tragedies of the Arma 3 story. It's such a well thought out excellent game mode. Intense battles and immersion..,,, and no one plays it. I really wish it was incorporated into the vanilla game modes for Arma 3. Wasteland made it in?
  17. The Short Answer to OP question is: Yes! (But not on Altis Map) Try Breaking Point "Thirsk" map and be astounded at the Multiplayer FPS increase. I went from 35-45 to 60-80 fps. See my rig below it's not spectacular for gaming. I think the problem is the objects, mainly the buildings, it's evendent when traveling through large towns. I have decent fps for Stratis, but Altis, it just boggs down. My system: i7 3770K @ 4.4 2 x 6870 1 gig (crossfire) 16gig of 1333 7-7-7-21 ram 7200rpm HDD Settings generally high and very high with 2xAA T

    Need help understanding Wasteland....

Yeah I have a feeling a new game mode will come out and be popular. I know there are a lot of players out there who would like to work passively on team play. (not really hop on TS or join a clan, but still work on a team), but since there are not many TvT servers they play solo on wasteland, or solo on altis life. I find myself doing that when I can't use mic or don't have much time to play. I really had high hopes for TacBF as I think it is a realistic and intense TvT game style, I just wish it was native to Arma 3 Muliplayer and more people played it.

    Need help understanding Wasteland....

I don't really play wasteland anymore because most servers it seems that most are indy and the teams don't really have any interest in working together. That being said I've had some really great large scale team on team battles in Wasteland that I just haven't had the pleasure of having in other game modes for Arma 3. Build up a base and gather resources weapons/vehicles/base walls and then defend the base or else attack the other team. This can be really fun and rewarding and lays out some non linear warfare scenarios in real time that you just don't get playing "comp stomp" or "king of the hill" or what other game mode for arms 3? Ohhh there are none...zing!.(please don't say TacBF because there are exactly 0 players playing it right now). It's cool when the team chat lights up to report a with excited reports of "column of enemy vehicles coming in from the north" Sadly though I'm finding less and less team Vs Team and more people just playing lone wolf camping a gun store. Wasteland is flawed in the way that people play it, but what multiplayer TvT game mode is better out there right now that has a server population over 3 players? Edit: Some searching found a server playing CTI 11 players total in all North american servers. But this is the type of CTI where you hire additional troops and vehicles so you walk around with a mob of AI teammates. Regular CTI is pretty awesome.

Why are much more people playing Arma 2?

Do you guys consider http://www.gametracker.com/search/arma2/? to be an accurate representation of server population? I don't think steam charts are accurate because I often launch arma 2 without steam, which I must say is very nice. If so it does indeed look like there are more people playing Arma 3 at the moment. But a lot lot of people still playing arma 2 . Also it looks like altis life is by far the most popular game type for Arma 3.
  21. I beg to differ, if you are applying for a stable full time sound engineering job at a studio then yeah it would be hard to get your foot in the door without credentials or a strong personal reference. ....Yet!.. If you were to approach smaller game companies as an independent contractor for sound design you may have some luck, it would not hurt to try as you clearly have a passion for it. A strong portfolio (demo video) will go a long way. Don't give up so easily ;) Good luck!
  22. Very pumped for this mod, been lurking on your forums also, it seems the whole attitude of the team is spot on and will progress towards a fantastic final result, I'll be trying it as soon as it releases!

HAHA It would be great for altis life,,
  24. I really have to agree with you on that. Hats off to the team to create this but this is really the job of the Game devs and kinda sad they leave it to the community to build believable sounds in a so called simulator (stock sounds woefully flat and lifeless). If widely adopted, which I'm sure it will be then they owe you money for making the game better. Not to take away from the amazing work though!!! Go team :bounce3:
  25. I see what you are saying but bear in mind that the whole Arma community has grown a fair bit in the past while so it will become increasingly difficult to have the close relationship with users like they did before. They can't just pick and choose who to listen to with requests. Considering the inlfux of new "fithy casual" gamers I think BI kept it pretty real, they could have dumbed it down for the common user but they didn't, if you run around like COD style you will get killed fast and rage quit, this is a good thing. As for AI: I see the points but I don't really see a stage any time soon where AI will act in a normal natural combat way? Is there any game that actually has believable ai? Why not just play PVP against real intelligence :) it's more challenging anyway no? ;)
