    An Honest Review

I replied by explaining why some things were as they were and then kind of ranted a bit. Should I have started my own thread with it? ---------- Post added at 02:15 ---------- Previous post was at 02:11 ---------- Arma 3 took the OFP route. Gameplay over realism. They have said they wanted to make it more like OFP. But for players who liked Arma 2 and how it was more realistic, Arma 3 is not a replacement. Hopefully BI will go the Arma 2 direction for Arma 4 and then just alternate.

    An Honest Review

You missed the fact that inertia got removed from player turning and wasn't even still around as an option. I can spin a pistol around at the same speed as a sniper rifle. I can spin around and stop on a dime without any inertia. The whole future excuse for things not being realistic is lame, almost everything exists today and I doubt they would remake old tech in the exact same image if it was better. Then there's the whole "we feel the factions should be distinguishable yet balanced" statement that explains why we basically have generic faction one, two and three. I mean before we knew much about Arma 3, people were excited for a Milsim that was like ACE and had multiple new large features, but instead Arma 3 turned out to be the opposite of that. Looking back at development it just seems like things just went wrong and we ended up with the current Arma 3. They had huge plans and intended the game to be realistic, but then just ditched that for the Arma we have today. You can see fans have wanted the game to be more realistic both here and on the feedback tracker but that appears to have fallen on deaf ears and many have given up and left. BI seems to be chasing a different fan base while leaving the previous one in the dark. Some positives to Arma 3 are the new penetration ballistics model but it begins to break down at larger distances. Physx is nice but not fully added and useable. The graphics seem to be an upgrade but only lighting takes advantage of DirectX10 which is saddening. At the moment the downsides tend to outweigh the positives in Arma 3.

    Halo to Parachute landing realism

Yes but I would rather not have things that are realistic changed because they were considered "clunky" by a few people. The whole lets make it less clunky philosophy made sniper rifles spin around like pistols in Arma 3 because inertia got removed, so I'd rather we try to stop things like that from happening.

    Soldier protection (dev branch)

We need a proper complex and realistic medical system to design the body armor around in the first place. It's like building a skyscraper without the bottom floors or supports. And for those who want to play like a super soldier they could disable the advanced medical system and advanced body armor system. For modding we need proper support for dismemberment and amputations.

I was under the impression that the myth was that anti materials rifles were always one kill in real life.

    WY-55 Hellcat

The main rotor has a bug. Make sure the engine is completely off and the rotors are not moving before entering and exiting the vehicle.
  7. Mods like Invasion44, Project Reality, ACE, CSLA, FFAA6, A-10c, Hell in the Pacific, PwS, JSRS, Blastcore, ACRE, Mando Missile, CWR2 could easily be the next Dayz with more support from the game engine. BI missed out on Project Reality, and even with the contest I would like to see BI actively adding engine features, scripting commands and other features/support for skilled modders. The more popular the mod, the more active BI would be in adding engine support for various things for the mod that could be used by anyone. Or you could outsource work by providing trusted community members with the ability to code features for the game engine which would then be checked over by a developer before being added into the vanilla game. If the community can do better, let them!
  8. Source? Last I heard was the final version of Physx was added or will be shortly.

    Halo to Parachute landing realism

At least ending up prone is more realistic than standing from something like a rough landing or landing to fast. But having this prone and stand up animation by default? Military soldier do not do that unless they screw up. But you can add this to the long list of unrealistic things that need to be fixed.

    Soldier protection (dev branch)

You should understand realistic does not mean BF4 hardcore mode. Things aren't always easy to kill, those easy to kill locations are usually protected in the real world. If you think anti material rifles are one hit kill in real life you are crazy. Some body armor types can protect from them. They also pass through targets without spreading out inside the body like other bullets. Any changes should be made from real world knowledge and data. Not someone guessing.
  11. This^ Physx can give us highly realistic cars, walking on vehicles native support, better destruction than BF4 (We can destroy anything), key holes, more control over friction, actual waves and many other things. BI said we would have great opportunities for modding with Physx, but we need full Physx integration first to make this a reality.

    What is "True" Arma ?

OFP went for a Gameplay>Realism approach. Arma 2 went for a Realism>Gameplay approach. Once again Arma 3 seems to be headed for a Gameplay>Realism approach.

ARMA 3 - Dropped out features

You can already make a car bomber simulator. Things were cut because they were scripted not engine based. What wrong with wanting to simulate something close to the Taliban and American troops for players to play on? It was done all the time in Arma 2. I used car bombs and IEDs in Arma 2, so what? BI isn't an American company. ---------- Post added at 08:40 ---------- Previous post was at 08:36 ---------- It would be nice to know what they tried, did it work or didn't it. It was more open and personal rather than just being for hyping us up and increasing sales. The whole hyping up is from the newer generation of gamers were dev comments advertisements. ---------- Post added at 08:42 ---------- Previous post was at 08:40 ---------- This thread will get us nowhere. And the Op should have searched for the original thread as a new one was not needed.

ARMA 3 - Dropped out features

Sadly this thread will continue to have people that believe their "horses were cut from the game after being told they were going to be added. And then complaining about it and making BI share less information with us. They stopped telling us what was in the works and what was planned until it is for sure going to be added. Because of all the complainers and the last thread like this. Now nothing is confirmed or denied unless it is 99% likely to happen.
  15. There's not really much to say in the first place other than it's something that should be fixed. We don't even know if this is intended so it could be a bug that slipped into the game.
  16. How would I return a vehicle seat value with lineIntersectsWith? By seat value I am referring to the cargo index. This is for having the player sit down in the seat they are looking at and if they are within range.

Damage system sucks - fix needed

That's because silencers are broken. They act in both sound and bullet damage as though you are shooting subsonic rounds. See here: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=6302

    Merry Xmas, BIS!

Just because I'm not religious doesn't mean I don't celebrate Christmas. Who would pass up on the family time and free things? :)

ARMA 3 - Dropped out features

Do we have to have another thread like this? Remember the last one? BI became less open because of that.

Damage system sucks - fix needed

I don't want someone guessing this. It should be realistic. ---------- Post added at 22:56 ---------- Previous post was at 22:54 ---------- We shouldn't let them think they can take the easy way out with a few changes. Look at Dayz, and it's body armor system or VBS's body Armor system. That is what we should be aiming for.
  21. This is something that would benefit AI but shouldn't exist for the player. This currently makes higher speeds safer to travel at and visually produces horrible clipping. This is something that needs to be fixed. This is actually something that we had that was similar to VBS3 with it's advanced vehicle physics but now we have a downgrade of Arma vehicle physics.
  22. This create hundreds of problems with the current fix.
  23. It's a quick fix that just creates more problems. Couldn't they just make wheels stronger?
  24. Here is a teaser video showcasing the script being used on the HEMTT truck while I shoot at targets along the road:
  25. So the wheel collisions are completely messed up. I was trying to test if Arma 3 has or uses something similar to Raycast wheel simulations but I can't because the wheels don't even collide with objects. How long have wheel collisions been broken? Good news is Arma 3's driving physics compared to the VBS3 driving video are pretty similar. Bad news is we need dynamic control over friction and like I said above, the wheels and bottoms of vehicles seems to have their collision disabled and then this effect is increased with the higher the speed. Edit: It appears like its the entire bottom have of the vehicle that has collisions disabled.
