    Soldier protection (dev branch)

I think most people could settle on its good enough for VBS2 so it's good enough for Arma 3. We already had the weapon sway adjusted to be like VBS2 also by the way. ---------- Post added at 00:54 ---------- Previous post was at 00:51 ---------- Body armor also should not only take X amounts of bullets and then your dead. It's just stupid and in realistic. If it penetrates and kills, then so be it. But if it is not powerful enough to break the persons armor, don't let it break the armor.

    Soldier protection (dev branch)

A Russian spetsnaz soldier was in combat against a terror group. A giant bug hit him and he fell over thinking that was it and he was going to die only to realize it was just a bug. ---------- Post added at 00:38 ---------- Previous post was at 00:34 ---------- This is the direction we should be trying to get in Arma 3 [In one of these videos, the soldier gets knocked down when shot.

We need this before weapon resting! BI get on it! :)

I would like to see people being knocked down after being hit on their body armor.

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

Arma 3 doesn't fully use Physx in it's engine yet. We need better Physx support at the engine level. Or at least I think that is the case.

    Ultimax 100 Arma 3

Ok, thanks for the info. One question though, what is the VBS modding community like and how large is it?

    Arma needs more arcade-like options....

Read more, the poster has made comments on both. The poster believes the game needs to be more fun by making it more arcadish. He also discusses the interface. Smoother gameplay is a matter of definition. His ideas are copying BF and COD rather than doing it realistically.
  8. Interestingly enough, I made a ticket for JSBsim A while back: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=15928

the houses and ruins are the mp problem ...

Star citizen is using Physx features like APEX for AMD users.
  10. As many of you know, all Arma 2 content is being released so that it can be ported to Arma 3. But this is going to come with a few problems. (This is not a discussion on BI doing an official port.) Here is a list if the problems that will occur. 1. Hundreds of random ports of varying quality and support, will flood the Arma 3 mods selection. 2. Mods including the same vehicles but each mod has to be downloaded with the vehicles as they do not share them. 3. Hundreds of mods just to play with Arma 2 content. 4. People working against each other for popularity. 5. To use all Arma 2 content, you will have to download many different mods. 6. People's efforts on porting will be wasted when 20 other people do the exact same. How this problem could be solved: 1. A community effort to port everything together in an expansion pack for Arma 3. This would include making the vehicles work with the new stuff and keeping them realistic. 2. Mods would use this community expansion pack rather than having everyone download the same content of varying quality and support. 3. Quality and support would be consistent. 4. Universal compatibility for other mods to use. The idea is one central expansion pack for all Arma 2 assets. If someone wants to modify a vehicle or weapon, then it has this Arma 2 expansion pack as a dependency just as though they were modding Arma 2. Edit: Kju's plan seems best: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?169302-What-is-going-to-happen-when-Arma-2-s-content-is-released-Problems-and-solutions&p=2567321&viewfull=1#post2567321

    Helicopter yaw, FM in general

Yea, hopefully we can get JSBsim in the game. Then we can have a flight model as realistic to our hearts content.

the houses and ruins are the mp problem ...

It's physics based not Physx based. Though many games found a way to give AMD users access to the Nvidia Physx stuff like Apex and others.

    Arma needs more arcade-like options....

That's something for modders and mission makers to do not BI^ BI should keep catering to the fans of the niche market and not sell out like every other arcade game has. It not fun to play a game that tries to make everyone happy. It's best to be unique with their niche sim like market. What you want to play is called COD/BF. I know arcade games have better simulation in areas, these would be awesome. The game doesn't have to be dumbed down or unrealistic for it to be easy for new players to get into. People have made great mods with the Arma they called a military simulator and not some balanced and dumbed down game. You probably hate to know with the right caliber you can kill people on the other side of multiple buildings. Things like Thermal Imaging I get, BI needs to overhaul it to be more like VBS2 because it would be harder and more fun to use. BI should not however balance the game for the mission maker ever. BI should never make Arma about kills, k/d and all those other things that plague arcade games as the mission designer can do this themselves. ---------- Post added at 01:20 ---------- Previous post was at 01:12 ---------- He keeps bringing it up fighting for Arma to compete with COD and BF. And you think Arma 3 as a twitch shooter is better? Why not allow people to turn off inertia. Because some people don't like swinging a sniper around like it weighs nothing. What's funny is he thinks these features should be arcadish when VBS shows us how to add things like hand to hand combat, knives and other stuff.

Complete sandbox experience - not there yet

We already have a weather simulator. What we need is the Simul Sky Sequencer tool to help control it and the scripting commands to be global ---------- Post added at 01:00 ---------- Previous post was at 00:57 ---------- Not sure why you say unrealistic, because the things you list are realistic and some are already in VBS. But stop with the Arma is a sandbox because it's not. Arma 3 is as much a sandbox as VBS2 is. Arma is a combined arms simulator. If it was a sandbox it would be a lot different. It has sandbox like features. We need more realistic options though not stupid arcade options.
  16. Could someone please elaborate in the fix merges?
  17. The title is a play on words. I don't think most Dayz players realize the Dayz standalone is going to be crazy hardcore. But Arma has always been a realistic game. Realism is fun because real world know how and knowledge can be used. You aren't given a medal for trying. You win with superior tactics, knowledge and resources. Why would BI ditch their community to chase the COD and BF cash flow and fight EA and activision? BI isn't EA or Activision. The majority of players want the game to be realistic, that's why it's not competing with COD or BF. Things are as they are now because of engine limitations, AI and lack of time and resources.

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

I'll believe you when I see proof that these things can be done in Arma 3. It's not that I don't think you can do it, it's just that there could be unforeseen roadblocks. (Excluding destruction as we need the game to get support for it.) ---------- Post added at 03:42 ---------- Previous post was at 03:34 ---------- What? I searched for such a thing but never found it in Arma 3's configs.

    Arma needs more arcade-like options....

Arma survived on being a game that appealed to the sim communities and people wanting realism. We should not be whinning about making the game more arcade. Arma is as much a "Sandbox" as VBS2 is. In Fact VBS has more sandbox like elements than Arma 3 does. Copying what COD, BF and other arcade games do will arcade like is wasted resources. No arcade player will ever have fun in Arma without some amazing total conversion mod. Many players feel alienated by BI already and feel that Arma 3 is on a direction to a more arcade like game. BI needs to move towards the VBS3 direction and gain back this portion of the communities trust. Asking for the game to be more arcade like will never make anyone happy. Making it more sim like will because those who do not like it can go play an arcade game, but those who want realism are stuck with Arma. A better UI is fine. The game is more fun for a large portion of the community when realistic, it's not a "sandbox" as you say. It's a combined arms simulator that's lost it's identity. More realistic options > More arcade options.

the houses and ruins are the mp problem ...

Performance wise it's better to not duplicate an object like what is currently happening. You can see even VBS3 has clued onto this and now have an actual destructible building instead of duplicating the entire structure.

    Ultimax 100 Arma 3

This is from VBS? Modders can use VBS1 stuff?
  22. Mods like ACE attract much more than the standard hardcore player. Trying make Arma an arcade game just doesn't work out unless its a full conversion mod. We should aim to attract players wanting realism not arcade gameplay like GTA.

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

New VBS3 videos: Snow! Biotopes! Improved vehicle simulation! And the best for last, Physics-based Destructible Buildings! ---------- Post added at 01:47 ---------- Previous post was at 01:45 ---------- So for realism it was VBS2<Arma 2 ACE but now it's VBS3>Arma 3. Wish we could get updates like these in Arma 3. Can any of this be modded into Arma 3 with the quality and realism?
  24. It's like that because BI needs to work on it more. Like more real diving equipment. Weapons being broken going underwater and so on. And the who reloading while moving thing needs to be fixed because it's been proven possible
  25. Would it be possible to get a Completed/released Scripts section of the forums? Because right now the current scripting section is more so for people asking questions and getting help. People who work very hard on scripts have their threads flushed away basically into the sea of threads. This would be similar to how mods have the discussion section and the completed section.
