Physics state that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Simply meaning the force at which the bullet hits the target will be no greater than the force put on person who fired it. If the gunman does not fly backwards from the shot, neither will the target. What is likely occurring in the video is that the soldier is hit, then reacts to getting hit. He falls to the ground under his own strength, not the from the force of the bullet. It might have also been a mental thing where once he felt the pain his legs gave out giving the illusion that the bullet knocked him down. Guns don't kill people, physics kill people. In game the difference is that the characters feel no pain, so the flinch of getting hit is the max extent a bullet is felt. If they felt pain perhaps it would cause them to quickly drop to the ground in pain or drop gear/weapons. I guess until the game is released, and a new dev update occurs this thread might die off a little.

Well there's your problem. You're playing a "call of duty" type mission where the mission creators have changed the damage settings to allow people to take excessive rounds to the face. Go play some different missions, wasteland is somewhat of a waste of time in my opinion. Whenever I see threads of similar weapon damage complaints they usually end up being a result of people using mission files with tweaked damage settings.

Will ArmA "stable" be MP compatible with "Dev."after official release?
RuecanOnRails replied to giorgygr's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
No it likely will not. Look back at the issues which occurred during early alpha when there was no MP separation, the Dev branch caused the seagull-apocalypse ;) Due to differences in code, any number of glitches could occur. It's best to keep them separate, I know I'll continue to run the Dev version and vote on feedback tickets. By keeping them separate it allows them to drastically change any number of things without affecting every server from people trying to play with "incorrect" versions. -
I found the Object view distance would cause extreme stutter if set past a certain point. Keeping the view distance and object distance the same, at 5500, the game runs smooth in editor with 35+ fps. With 12k view distance and 5000 object, the game would get 25-30 fps. However it seemed bumping the object view distance with any combination of terrain distance beyond 6000 would cause immense game breaking several seconds of freezing while turning. Keep in mind this is not a complaint and running at 5500 or 12k/5000 is amazing. But I would like to bring attention to the radical change from perfectly smooth gameplay with 5500. Down to 0-1 fps for several seconds while trying to look around if the object was set at 6000 or beyond. The freezing wouldn't only occur only when looking into dense areas, but also when looking straight up in the sky, or out to sea. Freezing is a result of camera movement and having to unload, then reload objects. Perhaps hitting and surpassing a hard/soft limit on total drawn objects? Windows 7 64 bit 3770k 16gb ram 7970 crossfire (wasn't in crossfire mode at this time) Arma 3 running off SSD Everything is overclocked well and stable.

Make sure you have pagefile enabled and it's set at an adequate size.

Wasteland is a mission file/mod created by the community. It's not official in any capacity. Bohemia Interactive don't create, or host the community mods. Any changes, suggestions, or questions should be related to the group that made the mod; Or the server hosts which may have made their own changes to it. Arma 3 does not remove bodies. What's happening is a body cleanup script put in place by the mission creator to reduce lag on the already laggy mod. I'd recommend checking out different mods/mission files besides just wasteland.

That issue is windows running out of virtual memory. Nothing to do with your ram per-say. Turn on, or increase the size of your PageFile. Windows 7 gets a lot of use out of the pagefile, even when it's disabled windows still reserves a small amount when needed. It's likely you have it set very low or turned off. Turning it on and increasing it to 8gb (same size as your ram) should solve your issue. If not, feel free to make a post in the troubleshooting section of the forums. Of course, you may have also stumbled into a memory leak, if you can repeat the problem watch task manager to see if the memory usage starts to climb without falling. While the game is causing windows to require more virtual memory, I don't think it's an issue of the game. Even though the issue didn't occur awhile back, the game is ever changing and newer features/content may be requiring more resources.

The difficulty comes with the map itself, any official maps for that matter locked down from in-depth editing. If they open the map a little to full editing, perhaps the community would jump on in a group effort of creating and placing/replacing building you can enter and to scale a few things slightly differently. I know I'd sit there for HOURS just placing trees in the barren areas of the map to build well detailed forests. In order for us to see a map of that caliber, it would take a lot of organizing of map, artists, and model makers to build one from scratch using detailed satellite and terrain data. Organizing that group would likely be a nightmare. I played TOH with the Re-armed official FREE DLC, it allowed playing Arma 2 easily in TOH. Combine that with the editor and making missions was just the same as on any other map. Would be nice to have the map overhauled, but I'll take what I can get.

What about the map? Clearly full integration isn't possible cross engines. But will the map be created using similar PBO's that could be ported to arma/take on helicopters? Even if we can't use the same engine capabilities as TOM. Staging some battles on the surface of mars would be interesting. It's a buy for me regardless. I wasn't expecting the pre-purchase to be available so soon and so cheap.

Something odd...did I just waste $160 ??
RuecanOnRails replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not so much a waste, personally I would have gone for a little higher end but that's just me ;) I believe your 4870 was a higher end card than the 7770 is even though they are from different generations. The 7770 will get better performance and much better power consumption, but won't be a massive upgrade. You can check out this thread which has someone asking about 4870 vs 7770 http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1736727 -
Windows running low on memory then crashing since beta
RuecanOnRails replied to Valken's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
If you use Process Monitor http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx You can set it up to monitor your pagefile for any reads/writes. It can record 10 minutes of *everything* that happens. Set it up, run arma, play for several minutes then quit. Stop process monitor and export the data to a spreadsheet and combine the results. You will be able to see which files were read/written the most back and forth between pagefile and storage drive. I used process monitor originally to analyze which files arma used most for certain missions. so I could use a ramdisk effectively for some situations without transferring the entire game to ramdisk. -
Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
RuecanOnRails replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
There's a sticky in this section of the forum. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147391-Will-my-PC-run-this-What-CPU-GPU-to-get-What-settings-What-System-Specifications I don't think your gpu is capable of running the game. And your cpu is a little slow. I'm not sure though, best to check through the thread I linked. Although your general specs do seem rather low which could make the game nearly unplayable. Do you have Arma 2? does that run well? -
Arma 3 Beta Crash at Menu Screen
RuecanOnRails replied to cintecian's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Are you running the latest drivers for your system? Do you have any overclocks applied? if so, try a stress test prime95 for CPU and Furmark for GPU. you can also try adding -nosplash to skip the spash and allow quicker testing. Do you get any pop ups saying something along the lines of your display driver recovering? -
Multiplayer crash to desktop / kicked off
RuecanOnRails replied to Sharks80's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
If you're not loosing your connection to steam and staying online then the problem is liking not caused by steam. Rather your game is crashing for any number of reasons. Do you get any messages saying your display driver has recovered or any notification that pops up after the game crashes? Do you monitor your temps while gaming you could be overheating which would explain the random times for the crashes to occur. You might not have a stable clock speed for cpu or gpu, try running a stress test for each such as Prime95 and Furmark. Make sure to monitor your heat as they will stress and bring the temps up rather quickly. If you're not seeing the same problem on other servers, it might be the server is lagging out and causing you and others to be kicked occasionally. It could also be the mission file the server is using, the coding in it might not be too well optimized causing it to crash. Does the server you play on play any other missions? -
Multiplayer crash to desktop / kicked off
RuecanOnRails replied to Sharks80's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
That issue is with steams authentication check. By any chance do you notice steam gets occasionally set into "offline mode"? Or are you trying to run Arma 3 outside of steam with a launcher? When steam gets set into offline mode and a game you're playing online calls for an authentication check, steam can't send or receive and it times out returning the null error. Although that error is also seen by admins anytime someones game client crashes and your character is still in game standing still lagging out. Steam sends a ticket check to see if you're still connected. It send sends back a null since you're game is not running and disconnects you from the server. So that error could really have nothing to do with your issue. Simply a message stating to the server that your game crashed and it's removing your player from the server. Here's a thread discussing the same error. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?154590-Player-x-kicked-off-Steam-ticket-check-failed-(null) -
Windows running low on memory then crashing since beta
RuecanOnRails replied to Valken's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Try setting the min and max memory size to same as your total amount of ram. The pagefile is used to quickly dump files in your ram to hdd allowing other programs to take advantage of needed ram. Keeping the pagefile same same size as your ram should allow windows the ability to fully dump your ram to pagefile and free up extra resources. Microsoft recommends 1.5x total ram, but seems a little much when ram these days are upwards of 32gb. Another advantage you get when you set the min and max of your pagefile manually is that it will reduce a lot of extra reads and writes as windows constantly changes the file size. Are you running any malloc or maxmem parameters? If you're telling Arma to allocate more ram than it's defaulted could be the issue. If there is a slight memory leak (I haven't noticed one) then setting a maxmem= and malloc= you can possibly prevent it from trying to request extra resources and mitigate the memory leak. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters -
The server you play on does have a direct correlation to your FPS and overall performance. More important than high frames alone, are stable frames. You can play Arma with very low frames and not experience any issues as long as the frame rate is stable (not jumping in frame rate every second from 20fps - 65fps) You can try using a frame limiter to reduce the amount large jumps in fps. A constant 32 FPS will feel smoother and faster than a FPS that is jumping between 45 and 60. The large stutter can also be caused by your HDD not being able to keep up with the constant I/O as the game dynamically streams from the HDD. Upgrading to an SSD or installing Arma 3 onto your non primary/faster drive will help reduce sudden large fps drops. Also.. you should overclock. Not overclocking is throwing your CPU's max potential out the window. You don't need to overclock to the point where it's on the brink of instability. Also Overclock your GPU similar as the CPU but usually has a lot more overclocking headroom 15% - 30% increase isn't unheard of.

Microsoft is claiming DirectX 11.2 will be exclusive to Windows 8.1. So I'm assuming it won't happen. Engines usually need to incorporate new directX features in early development it's too late for Arma 3 I believe. It's also nothing new, OpenGL has been doing things that microsoft's DirectX 11.2 is claiming as brand new never before seen features for years. Outerra anteworld. The magic of OpenGL's amazing features textures, fractal algorithms. *of course the engine their developing is oustanding* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afFb2JU45gA Check out the tech demo for it. http://www.outerra.com/ One day I'd hope to see every game use such detailed and smooth terrain.

Beta wont show up on Steam
RuecanOnRails replied to ArmySFOD's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Where did you purchase the deluxe version of the game? Through Steam or BI's store? In your library does is still list "Arma 3 Alpha"? If so, try right click> properties > Local Files then verify the game. It should force an update. Did you use the Alpha Lite before purchasing the game? -
Windows running low on memory then crashing since beta
RuecanOnRails replied to Valken's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
You're pagefile is far too small. Set your Pagefile to 8192mb (half your total ram) and the problem SHOULD disappear. You might also see better performance using an SSD over Ramdisk. Early Alpha while testing I found a few situations where SSD performance beat ramdisk due to windows always making use of pagefile and otherwise crashing when pagefile was too low or non-existent. -
Graphical Artifacts with AA Enabled

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's an AMD issue as much as a potential single card issue. Many people run AMD cards with no problems, including the 5850. -

Arma 3 Beta Steam Release Time
RuecanOnRails replied to overpricedgorilla's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Switch to DEV build, it's already there ;) No exact time has been released. Although because it's an actual name and price change, I believe it steam will need to be involved more than the current set up of pushing updates through. Because of that, Steam usually updates around 10am PST. If BIS is able to push the update before the official steam changes, then the update can happen at anytime. I've found the DEV build updates get pushed out around 2:30am PST -
ArmA3 may have fried my graphics card...
RuecanOnRails replied to freddyk83's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
When it gets "patterny" that's video memory corruption. Likely a dead card. Do you have a surge protector or is your computer plugged directly into the wall?
