Arma 4 a look to the future

I'll keep it short: sequel for the Arma series built on new Enfusion engine has been confirmed by developers. Exciting times we're living in!
  3. Hi! I'm Ezcoo, founder of Task Force Northern Wind. Task Force Northern Wind is intended to be a small group of developers specialized in developing multiplayer gamemodes and the required content for them in agile manner in Arma 3. The group name and logo describe the group's vision: just like the icy-cold northern wind hitting you in the face when you step out of the door in Nordics, our goal is to create immersive experiences that make players concretely feel, whether it's excitement, fear or passion. The group will be shaped by its members, which means that every member – including you – has a good chance to affect the direction we'll be taking in our future projects. I decided to found the group because I've been in the Arma modding (mostly mission editing) scene for years, but haven't accomplished much. I started as a complete noob back in 2012, having no idea of anything, but got constantly better at my niché, game design, with the right mixture of inspiration and perspiration. I consider myself pretty skilled in it nowadays. I've been part of several ambitious projects that didn't take off for some reasons: either they turned out to be too large projects for the team or – most importantly – the chosen development method was suboptimal considering the ambitiousness of the projects. Regarding the latter reason, it took me a while to understand why I was failing to deliver despite of having the honor to work with such amazing teams of developers I actually was working with. Eventually I figured it out. The reason is that I'm strongly the type of developer that utilizes agile methods with very short feedback loop and iteration interval. I've been working with and in teams that have had developers from all around the world, which lead to a single iteration lasting for a day or even several days, which, in turn, lead to difficulties in managing and designing the project on my part. That's why I decided to found Task Force Northern Wind – a developer group deploying a set of practices that utilize agile development and tight cooperation between developers, ultimately leading to better results. Task Force Northern Wind is looking for you, if you're able and willing to take part in development of multiplayer gamemodes during European noons, meaning approximately the time between 09:00 and 19:00 GMT. We're seeking people with a friendly and cooperative mindset; in addition, while tolerance to the consistently present bad humor is not required, it just will make your life a lot easier! If you're a scripter/programmer, we'd love to hear from you if: you master full stack development from database setup and integration to user interfaces in Arma, especially considering the multiplayer environment; OR you master some of the skills required in multiplayer mission development and you're available to work with other developers when they need you approximately during the above-mentioned time window. If you have other skills that you think we might be interested in, make sure to contact me on Steam or join our Discord and poke us! See you on the battlefield!
  4. We've started development of our first project, Leaf Engine! Leaf Engine is intended to be the lowest level component of various kind of multiplayer missions that takes care of some of the specific actions that are often hard to manage in multiplayer scripting, serving as middleware between the game engine and gamemode. It can (and should) be extended with modules that add the actual game mechanics and necessary content in the game. For those wondering, we decided to name it engine instead of framework because the first full version is intended to contain advanced functionality that can be utilized by simply describing wanted end result, which the functionality will then create based on the wanted features. One example of this kind of functionality is forming a complex and dynamic economy that implements the necessary economic laws simply by describing what kind of items the players should be able to trade. That's what Leaf Engine is designed for. Do you want to take part in the development or are you willing to follow our development? I have always had the same issue with TrackIR. It's the hardcoded way how the game handles head tracking, which means that it can't be fixed by the users, only by game developers themselves.
  6. Oh, I see. I somehow missed his comment and wondered why I'm not getting a reply. Thanks for the info!
  7. I'll try to get an answer for the third time. Is a mission or a set of missions enough for premium DLC or does the DLC have to include assets as well?
  8. Any input on this?
  9. Yes, that's why I've learned to make things simple, but so that you make those simple things excellent.
  10. What content should DLC include? Is a pure gamemode (ie. mission) enough for DLC (given that it's high quality enough) or does the DLC have to include assets as well? And yeah, I'm definitely up to contributing to an RPG (not Life) DLC. It's something that might not be appreciated here, but I think it should be up to players to decide what they want to play. Free market FTW
  11. If it was easy, it would have been done already. Also CPU usage alone doesn't tell about the performance: you can create a meaningless loop that uses all available free CPU power and makes the CPU usage to reach 100 %, while naturally bringing no benefit in terms of performance. RV engine is ancient and it behaves accordingly. I guess we need to just wait for the Enfusion engine and hope that it has built-in support for solvable multithreading issues like this.
  12. I think he just wants to run scheduled execution in its own CPU threads so that scripts would use more processing power instead of slowing down the main thread of the game. The issue is that the RV engine doesn't support it.
  13. I'm sorry that you didn't like the post. I'm not sure if it's again the general hatred towards the RPG community... I'll try to answer the points the best way I can: "We" refers to the developer team. I thought it's self explanatory, but I guess it's not then. We don't want to revolutionize Altis Life gameplay. We want to revolutionize roleplaying in Arma. Altis Life can and will stay so that people that who enjoy its style more can play it, we're just offering different experience. As you might have noticed, it was partly playing with words (yeah, I tried to be smart here). Not revealing already existing stuff was a conscious choice. We want to keep the surprise effect till the release. Discord is our "forums" for now. Webpage and forums will be added later. It's done when it's done. We do have a nice team already, four active skilled scripters and some less active ones, two UI developers and a game designer (me). Something we really do lack is the trailer video director. (You can check it by joining our Discord). I honestly don't see what's problem with this. I have no idea why should I flame existing Altis Life servers. Many of them are good at what they do, we're just offering an option to choose from with our gamemode. I just don't like the attitude of the "elites" of Arma community towards the RPG community. I do know that amazing amount of crap has happened within RPG community, but it doesn't mean you should treat everyone like that without knowing the details. It doesn't generally help to fix the state of already toxic community. If you treat everyone like idiots, you'll get idiots. Judging someone for their actions is cool, prejudices are not.
  14. Revolution is a next generation open source multiplayer roleplaying gamemode (RPG) and framework. Much like Tonic's Altis Life conquered the Armaverse back in 2013, we aim to revolutionize the roleplaying experience in Arma 3. Your experience in Revolution will greatly differ from the Life gamemodes. The framework will be fully open source after first full version (v1.0) release, and we'll publish both a fully functional gamemode that works out of the box and a framework that you can utilize to create your own story for your community. You can do whatever you want with the framework, as long as you follow the license (to be chosen in near future) and Arma Server Monetization Rules (listed here: https://www.bistudio.com/monetization). The framework has a modular architechture that makes it a pleasure to edit and create missions and mods based on it. It's a kind of engine that runs the actual modules that contain the functionality of the gamemode. You can attach, detach, create new or edit existing modules to easily customize your experience. When it comes to gameplay, we won't reveal the details yet. We want to surprise you positively! Do you want to join the revolution of roleplaying in Arma? We have a pretty nice (and fun!) team already, but to speed things up, we're currently looking for (the list will be updated regularly): - scripters familiar with multiplayer environments and MP framework of Arma (familiar with concepts like keeping clients in sync, security and command locality and object ownership principles in MP environment) - UI developers able to make UIs in Arma - trailer video director to make an appealing trailer video for the community to enjoy Interested? Make sure to join our Discord server to follow the development and to get in contact with us developers! https://discord.gg/6RAdAPc What will the night bring?
  15. Hi! I'm Ezcoo, one of the game designers of an upcoming RP project. Our team is developing a complete RP framework that will be released to public after testing. The development has been progressing nicely, but we would like to speed up the development process a bit by having more scripters working on the project. You will be credited accordingly and you have a chance to affect the features of the gamemode with your suggestions and feedback. There aren't any specific requirements for the developer role, except that you have to be familiar with the multiplayer framework (like locality and keeping clients in sync) for practical reasons, as the gamemode is fully multiplayer. The development team consists of veterans with each having thousand of hours of experience from roleplaying gamemodes and game development. If you're interested, join our Discord ( https://discord.gg/6RAdAPc ) and/or contact me on Steam: https://steamcommunity.com/id/ezcoo_ What will the night bring?
  16. Thanks for your interest! It's made from scratch, as we're not really fans of the way things have been done in Arma 3 versions of Life.
  17. Hi! I'm CEO of small game studio, FennoFactor Interactive. We're developing a new type of gamemode for Arma 3 with our great partner, ArmaHosts LLC. We're currently looking for dedicated UI designer/creator for our upcoming free-to-play gamemode. The position is essentially paid, as you'll be rewarded with percentage of revenue generated by the gamemode based on the quality and amount of work you put in the project. If you have any questions or you're interested, feel free to contact me on Discord or Steam! FennoFactor Interactive and ArmaHosts LLC – making Arma great again!
  18. Hi, I'm beginning to develop an open source RP project. The gamemode will be fast-paced compared to the existing RP gamemodes and doesn't have persistent gameworld on purpose. It will also have end game condition. The gamemode is supposed to allow players to jump on the server and leave it when they want for quick fun. I'm looking for to create something like Chernarus Life back in Arma 2 where the rounds were full of happenings and action. If you're interested in joining the team, contact me on Steam (see my signature below), send me a PM or reply to this thread. Let's make an awesome mission together! :) Regards, ezcoo_
  19. Hi, I'm computer science student from the cold north, Finland. I'm interested in developing (possibly open source) roleplaying mod for Arma 3. I've been game designer in various RP projects and I think I handle it well, but now I'd like to take the next step and start scripting my own missions. Learning to script is manageable thanks to the knowledge I've gained in my CS studies, but Arma UIs remain a complete mystery to me. So, to achieve my goal, I'm looking for UI masters that could teach me the logic and gimmicks of UI creation in Arma. If you're interested in the job, please PM me here on forums or contact me on Steam. I'm able to pay hourly wages in near future (let me know your hourly pay request). I'm looking for instructor that could help me to develop from novice to intermediate or expert level in Arma UI creation. Regards, ezcoo_
  20. Hey Savage_Donkey, thanks for the tip! I appreciate it :) I've found an instructor now. You can still send me your offers, but I'll most likely continue with my current instructor. Regards, ezcoo_
  21. The video tells it all. The aerial UAV gunner view is shaking extremely in multiplayer whenever the UAV is not flying straight. AFAIK, the bug has existed the whole Arma 3 lifetime and been reported multiple times. Could it be finally fixed, as it renders aerial UAV unusable in multiplayer? :) PS. Merry Xmas to whole Arma community!
  22. I'm getting "Session lost" and being thrown out instantly whenever I try to join to server. What could the issue be? I'm in Arma 2: OA. Server RPT: http://pastebin.com/Nw5Nwfa7 Server netlog: http://pastebin.com/j7z19XQC Client RPT: http://pastebin.com/87pMJEFt TADST_basic.cfg: http://pastebin.com/P0gPBp5v TADST_config.cfg: http://pastebin.com/kjr91X0z Most of the errors are related to mods, but I get the same issue with mods disabled on both client and server (and despite of the signature check setting which has been set off) and regardless whether BE is running on server or not.

    VON Improvements - Feedback

One more suggestion from here: make different server config VON quality setting for Direct channel and other VON channels, so that Direct can be used with good quality (sounding like real life) and other VON channels with lower quality (so that they sound like radio transmissions).
  24. Hey massi, I sent you again a PM about the mod. Could you please answer it when possible? Thanks for your awesome weapon pack! :)
