  1. Self made ones or downloaded stuff? Around 25 pbos in my native folder, 8 in my extra mod folder, then the ww4 mod, the ZOS mod, another extra folder with around 25 pbos, someone's work in progress Sci Fi campaign with around 90 pbos, the CSLA mod, the WWII mod, my System Shock themed mod which is still in the making, an experimental Star Wars modfolder I once played around with and my Half Life 2 mod. All in all, quite a bit of baggage...

  2. Why yes it's that simple. To abolish gravity all you have to do is create a social construct. If you get around 100 people to agree that gravity is a problem (it's dangerous, causes people to fall a lot), express the opinion, publish it on some blogs and media sites, then apples will float in the air instead of dropping on heads. It works with everything else so getting rid of gravity using this method shouldn't be a problem?

    As long as you quote some big names it's not an issue, really - validation by association.

  3. One thing you may or may not be aware of is the cold war between academics of Humanitees and the Natural Sciences, it has some bearing on this subject.

    If you like a good old fashioned fight have a look at this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokal_affair

    Ah, Sokal... one of the first things we did in sources/research course. But of course, gravity is just a socially constructed category, who would doubt that. At least not any peer reviewers.

  4. I'ts been awhile since anyone posted here but here goes. How exactly do you use the canSee... commands? Do you create a config.ccp or some such? Call the commands through the editor in the veh init line? Shim says Awesome thanks but I can't figure out how to get my AAF mora's to have the radar disabled for all crewmen. Some sample code would be great. I the Cfgvehicle in the editor and have found the commanderCanSee = 31+32; and the driver and gunner also. What i can't figure out is how to alter them for a simple tanking mission which only has the mora's in it. I should also state that this is a TvT mission so live players need NOT to be able to see the radar. Thanks.

    The parts for the radar are in the config.cpp (of either an addon or the main config) file, fixed in there for each vehicle. It's not possible to disable radar via scripts or the editor, you'd have to create an extra addon for a radarless vehicle.

  5. Well there goes my interest for that game...

    So, now it's a linear, stealth-themed adventure taking place in a generic Victorian setting, taking the player by the hand so he/she doesn't die too often and the enemies, trained, equipped guardsmen, are easy to defeat in single combat? That pretty much takes away everything that made Thief interesting, even the sound work is now rather unremarkable. I'm sticking with the Dark Mod.

  6. If something looks/sounds too good to be true in my experience it is likely to disappoint. They've been doing this with a team of 25-35 people and are hoping to expand to about 70. That's the same number of people that worked on ArmA2 and 3. ArmA2 took quite a while to really become good post-release imo, ArmA3 has quite some quirks and missing content as well so far. This developer has already said that a gradual release is planned which really is a good decision to let people know well in advance. But sadly stability and functionality of a game of this scope and ambition is not guaranteed by a gradual release at all. I love this type of game and so I hope for the best but I'm not quite handing out my personal "Game of the Year" award just yet ... :confused_o:

    I think you're right about that. I'm counting on delayed episodic updates, a lot of bugs and very little actual content. But what's keeping me so interested is the gameplay. It gave me the impression of a more open Mount & Blade system with additional, more interesting features. It most likely won't run on my current system anyway, all the release trouble and patching up to make it playable won't bother me until I can afford a new system, which will probably take years from now.

    Edit: Yay, 200th post. Am I experienced now? Can I become an adventurer?

  7. http://www.open.edu/openlearn/body-mind/psychology/psychological-studies/the-psychology-conspiracy-theories

    Something to do with conformity and coercive persuasion perhaps? Does the belief in hoaxes and conspiracy theories spread like the proverbial social smoking habit?

    Interesting topic - I've asked myself the same question and often came to the conclusion that it's idiots seeking attention. But after that latest esoteric convention in our city, with people (scam artists, in my personal dictionary) making thousands of Euros selling products with imaginary (or at best placebo-) effects, I fear I have to abandon the idea of every conspiracy theorist being simply an idiot who prefers fancy words like quantum healing to any sort of conclusive evidence which debunks whatever they made up. All the Neuschwabenland Neo-Nazi esoterics, the angel-channeling gurus, crystal businessmen and other cults and specific sub-cultures made me question the abnormality of my own paranoid set of beliefs and wonder if there are indeed studies which approach the topic of conspiracy theories as a social process, a shared belief system or something of the like.

  8. This has actually been eating away at my mind for years now. Whenever I read some 'interesting' story, I'm trying to find sources and fall into despair and frustration whenever I can't. And all those "news" sources... whether it's right wing esoteric new age websites which quote "experts" who are banned for life from most universities, or news agencies which go for sensation, like Fox News or RT, - it's all just people selling stories their customers want to hear, nothing about information or journalism. The primary stance on anything you read online should be skepticism, with that unreal number of bullcrap that's out there.

  9. I only tried Bandicam once and couldn't use it to some sort of error which caused crashes and general chaos, evils of all sorts. But the flickering sounds familiar - what does it look like? Are you using Kegetys DXDLLs? I had a flickering screen error with those after updating my video card drivers, I solved it by simply shutting off the postprocessing effect.

  10. I'd first create an empty array with an init script

     SniperUnits = []

    and then fill it with the sniper unit (or optionally already above, if it's already decided who they are)

     SniperUnits = SniperUnits + [unitName]

    and in the script you can build in a check like that:

     if (_sniper in SniperUnits): goto "ende"

    I didn't test it out like that, so I might have missed some points...

  11. I know it may sound a little cliché from me, but nobody is drinking wine out there :803: ?

    I don't say no to a few glasses of wine. I used to be into cheap red wine, but those anti-freeze fluids or whatever that special bar used to stretch that stuff were causing psychological damage, so I switched to white wine. My wine of choice is Storch, but it's most likely exclusive to Austria.

    Available in Austria and Germany, this is some sort of half-cheap discount window cleaner called Old Keeper. Many people seem to dislike it, but I've come to hold it in high regard as my favorite, bested by only Johnnie Walker. The taste is rather strong, but not with a distracting individual flavor like Jack Daniels or the general obnoxiousness of Captain Morgan (who is, by the way, not proven to be a real captain at all.) Many people seem to dislike it - maybe because it tempts the drinker with a sweetly smell and then attacks them with a bitter taste, maybe even because of the cleaning-product like side effects - for me, those are only more reasons to continue buying this one. And because it's cheap. On new year, while sitting in a dark room and planning OFP mods, I decided to try cutting a few pieces of ginger root into my scotch glass and the taste was remarkably interesting. I might have a new business idea there, or maybe just a drinking idea. In the end it doesn't matter; all that matters is the alcohol.

  13. Stupid error messages, they complain all the time, but never help with any of the actual work.

    If you have a restricted amount of weapon and magazine types in your mission, you can add check lines like those:

    #Nr8
    ?((magazines _player select 8) != "M16") and ((magazines _player select 8) != "WeaponMagazineName"): goto "Nr9"
    _mag8 = (magazines _player select 8)
    [/Code]

    I hope then it doesn't even feel the need to display that the magazines command is unhappy about the absence of anything.
