Did I miss the point where we start discussing linguistic theory and the meaning of words, definitions and all?
-
I just took a look and there's a file called Moving.sqs:
; Moving tank groups #LOOP ~15 [aG1, 2] setWPPos [(getPos aT1 select 0), (getPos aT1 select 1)+30]; [aG2, 2] setWPPos [(getPos aT2 select 0), (getPos aT2 select 1)+30]; goto "LOOP"
So, it's simply a loop that updates their waypoint a few meters away from a selected tank's position.

A big bit of sound editing done today, and those text-to-speech programs aren't half as bad as they used to be. Next up is the rest of the first demo mission, which is already half done, a bit more sound editing and some coding (resources, config, equipment html).

Great job! Any luck with the vehicle transportation scripts?

Okay, now my first reaction was laughter I could barely hold back, I thought you were making fun of a certain other strange discussion in the off-topic section today...
...but if you're serious, first of all, congrats, you won: http://www.ilo.org/global/topics/forced-labour/lang--en/index.htm
Also, a lot of countries are using their prisoners as workforce, too. And putting homeless people in the same spot as prisoners and thinking that it would even be a little bit okay to force them to work is just sick. How the heck are homeless in a position to be exploited in that way? Most homeless people are temporarily homeless, because they can't pay their bills or they have gone through some serious trouble, and if you can't afford a place to live, you can't get a job either way. Homeless people don't cost the state or welfare system a cent, and prison systems aren't that big of a factor either (if they're costly, they're run by private interests anyway.)
Welfare systems don't exactly spend big money on homeless people and prisons, but I guess you think of forcing jobless people into slavery, too. In most European countries, you lose unemployment benefits if you're not actively searching for jobs, and the high unemployment rates are pretty much a direct result of right wing economic policies, just look at Britain's history.
What is it today? International weird forum day?

All those problems aren't limited to democracies, dictatorships wouldn't really change any of that. The basic structure of the country will still be pretty much the same, it's just the way the government uses its power. A dictatorship will still very much depend on money, have people work, be full of injustice and corruption, etc. Every form of government has those problems and people have to deal with it, but the more centralized and authoritarian a state becomes (like a dictatorship or failing democracy), the more paranoid and violent they'll react to any perceived danger or enemy - it has always been like that, no matter what form of government. The thing is that dictatorships just make it a lot easier for the people in power to go full retard and kill people on a large scale, because there are no systems in place which prevent them from doing so at their own will, and for that reason I'm feeling more at home with democracy, even if ti still needs a lot of work - the whole purpose of things like constitutions and laws is to protect people from power-hungry psychopaths (although, yeah, corporate interests are taking over that mechanism to increase their profits, but well, I said it takes a lot of work.)

Frustration with democracy is somewhat common in most European countries... but that doesn't mean that people want to return to a dictatorship, that's just a crazy or mentally challenged minority. I've had family members and friends who have had experiences with dictatorships, and that's the last thing you want, believe me. Flourishing economy? Only as long as the gun factories can sell their weapons, and only for the people in control. Easy business start-ups? Good luck with that, more like a below-minimum wage state-owned workhouse. Opportunity to thrive? Not a chance, unless you're up high in the food chain, like the high ranking KGB or SS officers were - we're not gonna get along well if that's your career plan, though.
Do yourself a favor and study history, especially dictatorships and social movements. You'll quickly see that most of the fantasies about strong leaders and wealthy nations are simply bullshit, that in reality the majority suffers a lot more than in the worst of democracies. The only way to keep a democracy functional is to keep your check on it - strong independent civil rights movements that put constant pressure on politicians to keep corruption and abuse of power to a minimum. Now guess how you'd fight corruption in a dictatorship? Yes, by getting shot or gassed.
The real problem of democracies is that people take their rights and opportunities for granted and don't give a rat's ass about keeping things functional and fair.

I've been looking at the new material now, and I have to admit that I enjoyed it more than I'd like to admit. The sound-design was good, the voice actor fits, the style is still boring-ew Victorian, but hey. Not really something in the Thief tradition, so I stand by my previous statement that they should have gone with an original name. Still, pessimism pays off, especially when things turn out better than my blackened soul would expect.

Liked. Interesting project, I should have studied something in the technical field, too...

For those who haven't got it yet, ArmA II: Combined Operations is on GOG.com for only 4.99 USD - it's a limited offer for Valentine's day or whatever.
http://www.gog.com/game/arma_2_combined_operations
I wanted to buy it for quite some time now, as I've been playing ArmA II Free and Reinforcements, but I've never quite found the spirit to buy CO. Now that it's reduced that hard, I couldn't resist (only around 3,80 in Euros)

http://nothing-to-hide-demo.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html^^ needs to be here
Saw the article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun... I'm kind of feeling outdated at my age already, it's running slow on my PC.

I think they fucked up on the advertising. I only heard about this stuff that exact day.Yeah, it's also the support those things get by the media. One of our online newspapers only mentioned it once, on the 11th... while a lot of other, less interesting things get public exposure a week before.

Nice job! Great to see that us OFP people are still alive.
-
Yeah, hope the game will be moddable cause i got a bunch of ideas :)Quote from down there:
“We are quite open to modding,†he said. “Since it’s on CryEngine, it should be easy to mod, too.â€http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/25/come-in-kingdom-come-will-be-very-open-to-modding/
If a good mod community spreads its wings on that one, it's a definite must-buy for me.

Local demonstration and protests in favor of petitions that encourage local governments to get active on an international level and try to implement laws against that kind of surveillance would be something I'm in for, but organizing people and actually making those petitions and all the things not vanish within the slow and senile workings of governments will be a hard struggle... just remembering hundreds of signatures against shady laws around here that the responsible authorities suddenly "lost" ... Maintaining public pressure via protests and demonstrations with a clearly defined agenda would do the trick, as long as people stay on it and don't lose interest like a week after the whole Snowden thing which was apparently new and shocking to some.
-
That might sound quite negative, but is something like that really likely to succeed or have any sort of impact on the situation? If there's a complex, huge superstate with several independent organizations engaging in criminal activities, a few petitions won't do anything but scratch the public image (which hasn't been the best since the 70s and 80s anyway). The only thing that might help would be a major change within that superstate, which isn't going to happen because of the political system, or an intervention by international organizations, which isn't going to happen, because they're mostly owned by that same superstate.

I'm asking for someone who wants to get into the addon editing business and encountered a problem. He has a Steam version of OFP installed and Bulldozer asks for a serial key. Any idea on how to proceed?

I said the same thing, this screamed Dishonored everywhere you looked, but the funny part is that Thief 4 was first announced in 2009 while Dishonored was in 2011.Maybe they didn't really finish their concepts and ideas in the first few years ... and then picked up on the whole Dishonored thing.
-
I'd be happier if they'd call it Dishonored 2. The whole setup feels a bit off for the series, it's like he's the big huge master thief everyone on the streets knows, who's already destined to be the savior from the beginning, instead of just being a guy who wants to earn his living without having to do one of those shabby, low-wage day to day jobs (I guess being in the hero by destiny role is more relatable for a broader audience). The whole atmosphere and art style is more like a darker Dishonored than Thief, Victorian Steampunk instead of the more original style (I guess Steampunk is more relatable for a broader audience) But the thing that hurts me most is the sound design - it's just all Hans Zimmerish in the trailers (I guess grand orchestral score is more relatable for a broader audience), I just hope they manage to retain Brosius' ambient style throughout the game.
Other than that, I don't think it's ruining the series. It's not like they're destroying all copies of the older installments, they're still there and playable for people who don't like. The Builder be praised, it's not forced down anyone's throat.

20GB* of addons - uninstalled that is. Installed, I dunno, I don't play that much these times. All in all nice collection, but still less than Zulu! :)*And these are archived addons! Unpacked would fill mine HDD three times!
Damn... them numbers. Maybe I need to stock up my collection. My uninstalled bits are only around 4 GB (zipped and unzipped mixed). I shall prepare for future's evils, which might show a similar face like the OFPEC disaster of 2013.
