Arma 3 - The most tablet friendly game on the market?! Yes I have Arma 3 on tablet!
sproyd replied to sproyd's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
In Splashtop THD that is not the case. It has a mouse mode which is, relative instead of co-ordinates so plays like a typical touchscreen shooter. Also Splashtop 2 streams at a lower frame rate and is not as optimised for gaming like THD so I would advise against it as a solution. As I mentioned in my OP it also has a subscription based model for remote access. -

I've tried Kainy its not a stable solution - Splashtop THD is leagues better and puts it into playable territory. Once I have my Transformer Dock I won't need to map the buttons on screen - I'll have a full keyboard with USB port for a mouse... ooh yeah ---------- Post added at 20:40 ---------- Previous post was at 20:39 ---------- The best way to show the lag (or lack thereof) is to have it filmed next to the source so you can see the delay between your PC and the tablet (or in your case phone) -
I find the new profile works fine but the old profile still has the issue even when deleting the new profile and switching back to the old one.

Thanks minoza. My concern would be that the game isn't optimized for non Tegra devices so the performance may not be as good. Also, when you say thou got the apk from the net do you mean you pirated it? -

TF 101 is Tegra 2 so not compatible with splashtop THD, and therefore you are going to have hardware lag as well as software lag and network lag. I'm streaming at 1280x720 with almost no lag on a bog standard SKY UK router. ---------- Post added at 18:10 ---------- Previous post was at 18:09 ---------- Nice- although it's obviously too small a screen to be fully playable. Question: how did you get splashtop THD on the s3 if you don't have a Tegra chip? -
Well as the OP I never stopped thinking about this, and while it's not an official arma figurine, I did manage to put this guy together as the diver from arma 3! Note the fins on the waist, the dive mask, the rebreather, the steely look off awesomeness! http://s10.postimg.org/vnj63gtax/P1000972.jpg (173 kB)

On Wi-Fi N - negligible. Fully playable in-game on tablet. Over the internet it's more than fine for using the Editor. I'm planning on putting a YouTube video up at some stage once I get my dock. -
For those that were interested in my story I just remember I took a screenshot after I killed the guy on the quad but before the lights went out

Upgrading Digital Deluxe to Supporter Edition possible?
sproyd replied to SmallBlackSheep's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Yes, I too had major release day issues on the BIS Store and was trying to purchase a Supporter's Edition. Ending up just getting the base game from Steam. I would happily upgrade to Supporters edition (from Alpha not DDE) if given the option. -

Just want to give the low performance guys a tip - try enabling the dev build and see how your performance looks then. The dev build for a lot of people is running much smoother at the moment than the stable build. Its an indicator of things to come. -
Not liking the new Fatigue system - Jogging should not be penalised
sproyd replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I guarantee most of the people complaining about over the top fatigue are basically sprinting everywhere. You need to break the Shift + W habit that you have from most FPS's. If you just do regular run everywhere and SPRINT only when you need it to get to cover you will fatigue-out barely ever (DEV build). In fact I can jog in-game for say 5 minutes and still have enough stamina to break into a sprint (with basic loadout). -
Yeah its a lot easier now and more realistic. I had tried before recent dev patches and it didn't work but then again I didn't try like 12 rounds ---------- Post added at 23:19 ---------- Previous post was at 23:14 ---------- On another note I just played a fantastic round of Wasteland at dusk. It was getting quite dark and everyone was starting to complain on Global about not being able to see, I had switched to NVGs. I was on the hill overlooking the air base and heard the sound of a quad approaching. I went prone behind a rock and when I popped out I was instantly blinded by the quad's headlights combined with the light hitting all of the great dust particle effects the quad kicked up - basically a blinding white wall of dust under NVGs. Upon turning off my NVGs, the whole area was illuminated really awesomely by the quads headlights. The driver got off to go to the gun store, stepped into the light and I let rip with fully auto 6.5mm. He went down. I then realised I was illuminated for everyone within half a mile and switched to semi where I took 2 shots - one for each of the quad's headlights. The area went back to dark in a 1, 2 sequence. NVGs back on. AWESOME. VERY happy with lighting in its current state. Vehicle headlines epicosity.

TL;DR = To best support BIS buy digital copy from BIS Store, validate on Steam and don't buy a physical copy upon release. I've created a separate thread so people can easily read this as I see a lot of discussion, confusion and contradiction going on about the controversial choice by BIS to go Steam exclusive and the whole BIS Store vs Steam thing. My day (and night :j: ) job is an Analyst for a large global bank in the City so I see this type of transaction all the time, and I am personally a shareholder in publicly-listed game publishers, so I thought I could clear a few things up from a business perspective for the benefit of everyone! With a digital distribution platform like iTunes, the power really sits with Apple because there are many small indy music labels that don't really have a choice of what platform to use if they want to sell their music. Apple applies a blanket margin and takes a big cut. For the bigger labels like Sony, they have high level negotiations because all of a sudden Apple need Sony to validate their business model as "best-in-class" because they can't really have iTunes without say MJ or Alicia Keys. They come to an agreement with Apple for a set margin. However, Sony's power is still limited because even if Sony developed its own digital platform its unlikely to have much uptake, given the relatively small share of the market they have. The same applies to Steam (the iTunes of games), except the market dynamics are different because games publishers are generally much bigger (EA, ActBliz, 2K, Ubisoft) and each hold quite a large share of the market. Furthermore, they have proven that they can successfully (questionable...) develop their own platforms - Origin, UPlay etc that do have a decent level of consumer uptake (see BF3, Far Cry 3). So these mega-publishers have high level negotiations with Valve for a retailing margin agreement - but when the discussions go awry you end up with a situation like EA pulling Crysis 2 from Steam. Indy devs on the other hand of course get the blanket high margin treatment (see iTunes above) by Valve because they don't have the power, nor Valve the inclination to strike up specific agreements. BIS probably were in the latter category until the DayZ effect, and now they have obviously struck up a special deal for Steam-exclusivity for Arma 3 (and I strongly suspect for DayZ SA) that is likely to be at a lower margin than what they have historically paid. It is very likely that Valve only agreed to this on the basis of proven booming Arma 2:CO sales and Steam becoming the exclusive platform for A3/DayZ SA therefore further proving and validating the "best-in-class" Steam business model to their customers and other suppliers. Now, while Steam has distribution exclusivity, it shares retailing with BIS Store and in the future High Street retailers via boxed copies. When you transact with Steam you fall under the abovementioned Publisher > Valve agreements and Valve get their cut that has been pre-agreed. When you transact directly with the publisher (i.e. BIS), Valve/Steam do not get a cut. You then subsequently validate your key on Steam and BIS pay Valve for digital distribution (not retailing, as the transaction was not with Steam/Valve), which is lower than the cost of Steam retailing. Of course BIS can't explicitly tell you this because it would breach their NDA with Valve and it is also counter-intuitive to their good natured relationship that they have with Valve. Either way, BIS MAKE MORE MONEY NOW, which I think we can all agree is good. Now I know some people want a boxed copy of A3, but BIS see the lowest amount of money for these because (a) the transaction is conducted with a 3rd party retailer who takes a cut (b) some money still finds its way into Valve's coffers © there are logistics costs (d) there are physical media costs for printing the disc, manual, box etc (e) there are holding costs, i.e. the cost of capital in holding the inventory on balance sheet while it sells. For the sake of this please only buy a physical copy to supplement your digital copy if you want to truly support BIS. Hopefully BIS will sell physical maps on their store (like they do for A2) if you need to get your hands on something tangible to tickle your Arma fetish!!

@Bad Benson I agree with most of your points. In regards to the fatigue system I know its a WIP - however I refer to the video above which is what I mean by asthma attack its a bit ridiculous. Most ppl that run marathons don't sound that bad and I was at the 40km mark spectacting the London marathon 2 weeks ago. -

The best wounded system I've ever encountered is believe it or not Far Cry 2. I played that game extensively and its incredible what Ubisoft Montreal pulled off. Injured players crawl up to trees and slump and shoot you when you come by - and enemies carry other enemies. -
CAUTION: Don't crash your PC while updating Arma 3...
sproyd posted a topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
So while updating to the latest dev branch today I unwittingly unplugged my USB sound card so I could revert to my laptop's speakers and listen to some iTunes while I wait for the update. I wanted to kill some time before I could play Arma 3. Unfortunately, I got a Windows 8 BSOD instead and upon rebooting Steam has decided that I don't have Arma 3 Alpha installed at all. It is now engaging in a 5.4GB download.... great! I thought Steam was meant to be smart and be able to detect corrupt files or what have you and minimize bandwith usage... In this case I actually got a "detecting already installed files" dialog before it proceeded to re-download the whole SOB. Word to the wise: don't mess with your PC while updating on Steam if you value your bandwidth (and time). Fortunately I live in central London... -

In the latest dev build my character sounds like he is having an asthma attack after sprinting up a hill for 10 seconds. Trained soldiers should be able to handle intense bursts as well as sustained jogging with equipment for at least a couple of Kms. -

Just weighing in on AI in the dev build at the moment - I find them quite difficult in the Infantry showcase. They seem to get a very good bead on you when you can barely see them through shrubbery or what have you. Also, you better pray you are on semi because if you blast some full auto fire in their direction they won't move an inch and calmly take fire on your position. -
Hey - the guys complaining about the FPS issue - I think its because the Vid settings default to max viewdist (for some reason) - take a look ;)
-
Hey BIS team I have to tell you that the latest dev build looks great from a lighting POV. Just had a play around Agia at night with a flashlight and it was great with the light dissipation working very nicely.

lol BI you are either the most saintly or most stupid developer in the world to put up with what you voluntarily put up with from the community by being so open!! You have my admiration :) and consider this a message of ongoing support for the great work you are doing on the game.

really... Anyway, I would not sweat about using whatever songs you want in your missions. Using a commercial song in an Arma 3 mission is kind of like going 1mph over the speed limit while in the middle of the desert - noone gives a shit. Also, you aren't going to get sued................... hahahaha, they will only sue if there is money to be made or precedence to be set (i.e. Napster). My advice as someone who knows more about big business than I would like - Use away.
