Vehicle Showcase seems broken: I think they've decreased the Hunter GMG damage and introduced some sort of wind effect to the rounds. The reticle stays perfectly on target (because its not linked to the gun as such and has no recoil) but rounds now have a big spread. Having beaten the showcase at least 5 times in Alpha, I know the biggest hurdle is conserving your rounds and making accurate shots on the 3x hunters you have to destroy. Well from 800m away, perfectly zero'd my shots were going wild without moving the mouse and 3+ direct hits on a single hunter wouldn't destroy it. I ran out of ammo without destroying a single hunter. Can someone please reproduce?

Issue with the green shooting challenge: On subsequent run throughs on the same load (i.e. by shooting the black reset target at the end of the course) I get penalties for missing targets etc but not bonuses (for using correct weapon) counted towards my end time. A very fun little mission though I must say and goes to show what the Arma engine can do. Not to mention the Night Ops mission (which is awesome) is fully cinematic and reminds me of the BF: BC2 first mission except all in the fantastic open world A3 engine.

The HE rounds from the helo now are very fun to see the impact and on the supports mission it looks like they generate light. I don't know if they are HE or just high calibre but they cause little minisplosions

Not new - can confirm been in A3A since launch. I know because I have a boat mission and got knocked out quite a few times (and sunk to bottom of ocean lol) Bug: Combined Arms Showcase. Couldn't complete the first objective. LAV and all troops in compound but wouldn't complete. Other issue was the LAV ran over about 3 BLUFOR guys...

Okay so the Beta is sweet so far - really enjoying it (obviously eyes wide open its still Beta and playing the CA showcase I had the muscle spasm bug). The new helos are so sweet and flying the Blackfoot is the sheeit!!!!! First cool new experience. Spawned a Ghosthawk and a Marid on opposite ends of the air field - me in the Marid as driver. Ghosthawk just takes off (without a waypoint) flys straight over the air field toward me and my gunner locks on and starts firing and pans the turret as the ghost hawk flies overhead. Looked so sweet!!! pics coming BOOM! and the view from above

Detection Script Help - Detected by Trigger not working
sproyd posted a topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I'm building a sniper mission where I want to bring in reinforcements if the sniper is detected. My first attempt was to have reinforcements with a waypoint synced with a Trigger. The Trigger was a simple Switch Trigger with a standard dropdown BLUFOR Detected by OPFOR condition. It doesn't seem to work and checking the BIS description here it sounds like its based on knowsAbout levels which are in turn based on several factors including distance - which in the case of the sniper could be quite a way. So I want to build a script where the trigger is activated if any OPFOR unit detects the Player to the point where they'd be likely to call reinforcements. IRL they aren't going to wait until they positively ID their target and see the whites of his eyes if they are being fired upon by a high calibre sniper rifle - they would call armored backup ASAP. I am thinking something along the lines of below for the trigger activation if (((any OPFOR/EAST) knowsabout Player) > 1.49) then { true } Does this look right? And how would I code the any OPFOR/EAST section? Thanks, Merci, Gracias, Arigatoo -

hang on isn't that my exact script from post num. 2? It doesn't work. I resorted to the old enemy1 & enemy2 & enemy3 way of doing things... -

This seems like a very big job for not a lot of gain in terms of educating the community and spreading mission creation knowledge. Have a look at the guide in my sig. This is my contribution so far for upskilling those who are in the same position I was in a few months ago. I'll be adding to it as my time permits (I have a busy city job) and should be covering most if not all of the points you suggest above. Keep an eye out. -
Is the Site Module working properly ATM?
sproyd replied to sproyd's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Did some testing. All at the default 0.5 value for buildings. BLUFOR Sites Traffic Checkpoint: placed on a road, couple of guys just standing on either side of the road OP: 4 guys standing in a square facing out Base: Seems to be contextual. Placed at Kamino I had one HMG Hunter (w/ driver + 1 passenger, no gunner), 2 guys standing near it, 2 guys properly placed in the lookout and a guy stationed outside each cabin. Placed at Rogain it was similar, with guys on the roof of the main building. Placed outside of one of the map's named bases, there is nothing. Firebase: I had one HMG Hunter (w/ driver + 1 passenger, no gunner), 2 guys standing near it. Placed in a base none of the buildings were guarded or defended. Radar Site: Nothing. Not even at Mi-26. AA Site: a rifleman and a grenadier (wtf glhf). Stationary. Civilian Sites Not a soul. Minefield Seemed to work. Ow. OPFOR Sites All seem the same except a few crucial differences. Base NO IFRIT OR 2 SUPPORTING GUYS Just buildings occupied Firebase NOTHING Conclusion: Many sites don't work. Base is a legitimate way to quick-arm bases but OPFOR sites and firebases are gimped/broken. -
Is the Site Module working properly ATM?
sproyd posted a topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Using stable build A3 I've noticed that a mission I made that uses a couple of OPFOR Sites seems to have become a lot less populated with baddies. I'm using the Base Site at Kamino and an AA site at the beach south of the Kamino lighthouse and the former is sparse with no vehicles I can't find any lingering units generated by the latter. Have the Site Modules been toned down/broken at some stage in the past month? -
And that would be because the Site Modules are not working properly!! The life of an A3 Alpha mission designer is fraught with frustration. Not only do you have to contend with making your mission stable, it could be broken at any time by BIS updating the game!! (not a dig at BIS, I'm eyes wide open here). hotfix incoming... Update: Hotfix released (and some other goodies. Check OP for download and changelog.

Arma 3 - The most tablet friendly game on the market?! Yes I have Arma 3 on tablet!
sproyd posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
TL;DR: Play Arma 3 flawlessly on local Wi-Fi and over the internet on an Asus Transformer Prime tablet, with full keyboard and mouse support using Splashtop THD app streaming from your PC (running nVidia or ATI video card). Read on! Background So I do a reasonable amount of travel, and am always on the lookout for cool travel tech. At home, I play Arma 3 on a laptop (Asus N56VZ-DS71) which I am very happy with but it really is not practical to travel with because its big and heavy, the GPU has issues when on battery (the battery can't feed enough constant wattage to the GPU) which makes gaming almost a non-event unless plugged in and in any event it has about 2 hours of battery life. So I almost never travel with my laptop. I usually just travel with my android phone (Xperia T) for casual gaming and music and a 3DS (for Mario and more recently Luigi's Mansion). nVidia SHIELD Anyway, as a hardcore gamer (which many on here I am sure are), I was pretty excited to see the Nvidia Shield and have been following it since announcement. I don't really care too much for Android gaming as the good apps tend to be targeted towards mass market rather than taking advantage of high-end hardware. However, one cool thing that the Nvidia Shield claims to do is stream games from your PC to the handheld which I thought is a great idea - your very own personal OnLive service except without subscription fees and you are free to run any game whenever you want including mods etc, with the added benefit of super-fast speeds if you are gaming locally. The Shield is now pre-orderable but I won't be getting one because USD350 is far too expensive for what it is It appears fairly bulky for travel The screen size and resolution is still too small for really enjoyable hardcore gaming imho At this stage there are no real reviews and really only early impressions - it is unproven tech Hmmm... how else to do this? So I started looking into a software called Splashtop , particularly a software which is about 12mo old now called Splashtop THD which is designed specifically for streaming games from a PC to tablets/phones. THD is only available to those with a Tegra 3/4 mobile device, and is especially optimised for those running an nVidia GPU in their PC. My laptop has a GT650M so a perfect match. Splashtop THD allows for both local and remote access with claims of being able to run up to 60fps including customisable on-screen controls and even USB support for a mouse/360 controller plugged directly into your tablet. Splashtop THD is a one-off purchase of about £6 whereas the newer Splashtop 2 is not optimised for gaming and requires an expensive subscription service (a few £/mo) to access your PC remotely. Now, to choose a tablet... the number 1 prerequisite was a Tegra 3 of course, but I also wanted something with a decent screen (IPS panel), a reasonable size (10" as 7" I think is too small) although a high "Retina display-esque" resolution wasn't a big factor for two reasons (1) running a high resolution is taxing on the PC which is already outputting a video stream and (2) streaming a high resolution would result in choppier frame rate and less responsiveness. Other major bonuses would be a good battery life, good keyboard compatibility and a USB port for a mouse/360 controller. Also, I'm very value-conscious so I wanted something that was well priced and not necessarily cutting edge. I arrived on the Asus Transformer Prime (TF201), as the technology is not very new and so I knew I could get it at a good price, it has an available keyboard dock that also happens to double battery life (to c. 16 hours!!!), the keyboard dock has a regular USB port and of course it has the crucial Tegra 3 processor. There are two newer models, specifically the Asus Transformer Pad TF300T which I found out was essentially just a cheaper plastic model of the older one and the Asus Transformer Infinity TF700 which is cutting edge but with a price to match. I just received by Transformer Prime this week for only £180. It is an ex-demo model but in perfect working order with 6mo warranty. I am going to have to buy the dock separately. How does it run? Well unfortunately, as I have a laptop, it has Optimus technology which is a common tech in modern laptops with dual graphics (onboard and discreet). It essentially allows for switching back and forward between onboard low-power and your nVidia graphics chip to improve battery life. Turns out that Splashtop THD does not fricking support Optimus and as such I am limited to only partial support and cannot run full screen programs. I get the same pop-up error that AMD users would get "Splashtop does not permit full screen access", when in truth it does support it on nVidia desktop GPUs only (although it looks like even many of those users have issues by reading online) However, a workaround that people have found is to run games in what is known as "Windowed Full Screen" and incredibly out of all the games I've tested so far (Skyrim, XCom, European Escalation, Far Cry 2) Arma 3 has incredible compatibility for this. It is so impressive I can barely believe it. I get full screen fast streaming Arma 3, highly playable on my tablet and the icing on the cake is two-fold; Arma's longstanding interface size options is a dream for tablets. Set to Very Large I never miss a press on the tablet. This also flows through into the editor so I effectively now have a touch screen Arma 3 editor - although I haven't yet found a way to scroll the map as you can't hold down right mouse button on the touch screen. Arma 3 seamlessly switches between my streaming resolution (1280x720) and my native resolution (1080p) when I connect/disconnect with my tablet within game. So I can basically be playing Arma 3 on my PC, move to the bedroom with my tablet, launch Splashtop THD in a few seconds and continue where I left off but now at the correct resolution almost instantaneously. I haven't tried accessing the PC remotely from a good internet connection yet but what I did do was turn my Xperia phone into a WiFi hotspot over 3G (4G in the UK is not widely available and £££) and it fully worked although as you can imagine streaming a 1280x720 constant stream over 3G and then via local hotspot to a tablet was slow and not very responsive... I am fully expecting that once I get my keyboard dock I will be able to travel around London with effectively a mobile Arma 3 mission editing center wherever I can pick-up WiFi (Costa, Starbucks, Tube!! etc). What's even better is the touchscreen is almost the perfect editing interface. Double tap anywhere on the map to place a unit etc, and with the very large interface size its easy to edit mission boxes. Coding/scripting will of course be simple once I get the keyboard dock too. What's more, with Arma 3's highy effective windowed full screen mode this tech is available to mobile GPU users and AMD users alike! Let me know what you think! Or you could just buy a Transformer Prime and this $5 cable http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Transformer-Prime-TF201/dp/B007CLMZ4E with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse/360 controller. -
v1.3 released today. Fixed a load of problems (mostly due to alpha updates) and made other improvements. Refer OP for download and changelog. Apologies to anyone that tried to play v1.2 which became broken due to class changes in alpha updates.

Both of these should be doable in v1.3. Look forward to your feedback especially seeing as you played an older version. -

Update v1.3 - the reinforcement script is out of alpha and is now stable. The mission should be much more challenging now (it is for me!) -

Thanks very helpful indeed to have this from BIS. Two problems I have found in regards to editing description.ext 1) overviewText seems to override onLoadMission text. So in effect if you want overviewText then you won't be able to have a different, shorter description for your loading screen as it will just be the same as the overviewText. The same doesn't apply to the picture. 2) overviewText seems to be limited to a low number of characters - far less than would fill the overview box even if on large UI. Anything over a certain character count just gets truncated. Can anyone confirm? Also as others report I'm happily using jpegs rather than paa files and it works fine.
