Every single person who wants their nation to remain independent =/= a Nazi. The fact that riot police are required to keep relatively small (1000-2000 persons is very few for a popular uprising) but very violent crowd from lynching them because they disagree would if anything indicate the opposite. In the free world, people don't encourage killing others "because he disagreed". I think something I wrote in another thread applies to this, specifically regarding speaking about democracies based on ones own experiences: "IDGF, it's like with sex: Until you've actually experienced it yourself, you don't get to act like an expert on it". In other words, don't pretend that that film you so proudly linked displays anything even remotely close to behaviour acceptable for the human race, until you've actually lived for any mention-able time in a country that respects human rights and overall democracy. Unless you refer to the riot police who are keeping unarmed civilians from being strung up by a lynch mob.

And in real life, opposition members are either opposition members in name only, supporting everything Putin says and does (gotta love that opposition), or risk everything from bankruptcy to imprisonment to being mysteriously gunned down in the dark of the night. Just the fact that reading material school children are told to read bears the name of the president is something that history very much indicates to even the most naïve and out right daft that a country has strayed far from democratic values and acceptable international behaviour.

I'm just waiting for the reaction of epic hilariousness when the pro-Putin Russian community here goes from "look, our national genitalia is gigantic 'cause we took Crimea, F U USA" to "fascists, I didn't want your new iPad anyway, the rusPad and putinPhone is superior. Same goes for bread and jobs". You know, like in '91.
  4. Long story short: Just because you bought Arma doesn't make you entitled to something that someone else bought, i.e. VBS2/3. When you buy something, you are entitled to claiming that object as your own. Not another object. 5 year olds tend to understand that, but for some reason a relatively large minority of Arma players don't.
  5. Maybe, instead of demanding that addon makers go to extreme lengths to ensure that you don't have to do any modifications (massive, because e.g. TMR is very modular, and would require hundreds if not thousands of combinations to ensure that you don't have to modify anything), you could just make a repo.

Yeah, because we all know that Olympic athletes are all bluecollar Joe Regular's, right? Also, remember the last time anyone refered to the Olympics as an indication of the collective health of an entire nation? I mean, it's like you're actually trying. ---------- Post added at 18:21 ---------- Previous post was at 18:09 ---------- And that gives Russia the right to commit worse, or even just equally bad crimes because? Logic, your kryptonite. Not to mention that half your examples are greatly exaggareted and/or distorted, and the rest are complete and utter lies. And Russia has actually done many of those things itself, in considerably worse, and more extensive ways than anyone else.

Well, it certainly means Chechnya ought to become an independent state any day now. Russia supported Crimean independence because of a 50% Russian population. Chechnya has a 95% Chechnyan population, and less than a 2% Russian population, so I'd say it's pretty obvious what should happen according to the latest Russian philosophy.

That reasoning only holds up if it is coupled with bizarre amounts of naïvety and ignorance. Yes, the Finnish didn't shout invasion. But then again, it's not like Russia invaded and annexed 10% of their country less than a month ago, now is it? If you missed out on that quite gigantic difference of contexts, you must've been living completely isolated from news medias for the last few months. And despite your belief to the contrary, it actually is necessary to move ones military resources closer to a country prior to invading it. See, a hundred modern attack helicopters won't do much good in an invasion of Ukraine if they're stationed in Siberia. And apparently, the Russian military doesn't agree with your theory about not having to move units to the border in preparation for an invasion, as that's exactly what they did prior to the "Georgian provoked" war of '08. Under the claims of an exercise. Like now.

Unless those ~20 troop carriers are the only helicopters the Russian military has, it's a pretty ridiculous argument to begin with.

Yeah, because Mi28s and KA-52s are totally troop carriers, just like the Mi-8/Mi-17...

Okay, now we've got the irrelevant answer. How about you read what I wrote this time, and then you reply based on what I wrote? Am I justifying what anyone did? No, that I do not. Am I pointing out the hypocrisy of shouting "this guy is bad, and everyone I don't agree with support him" whilst supporting the crimes that caused people like him to act the way they did, and gain supporters? Yes. Artem: I have heard of many ways of debating, but never have I heard of the "let's reply with some YT films that say absolutely nothing about the topic at hand" method. You could just as well have posted some films of kittens.

Can any of the local Russians shed some light on exactly why this Bandera character is so incredibly bad? I mean, he cooperated with the Nazis and was a very despicable man, sure. But he did so less, and never came even close to doing as much as Russia did prior to the war, and during it, and I have this weird feeling that the people who so persistently say that everyone who doesn't want Ukraine to become a Russian province is a "Bandera lover", don't themselves see many faults in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, any other part of the extremely extensive Nazi-Russian collaboration, or the crimes committed by Russia during the war.

So, no games about discarding democracy, invading and annexing other nations under the pretense of protecting your ethnicity from persecussion? Guess they'll have to cancel their CoD ripoff, Call of Crimea

You are aware of the fact that pretty much every country in the world has at one point or another supplied every other country in the world with large amounts of weapons, right? Half the Western world is selling arms to you right now, so should Georgia and Ukraine invade and annex the West for that? Not to mention that if "supplied a country hostile to us with weapons" is the criteria for invading and annexing a country, Russia would be on the top of the list for every nation on this planet. Oh, the peacekeepers in Georgia. As in, the soldiers you sent into Georgian territory, who's presence you did not acknowledged, and who you all of a sudden called peacekeepers when the Georgians got fed up with the Russian army carrying out the worst kept secret occupation ever of ~1/5 of their country? I see a trend here regarding Russian "peacekeepers"...

Are you aware of the fact that no democratic poll can be held in less than one month's notice, in a recently occupied country, controlled by unrecognized foreign troops, biker gangs, outright fascist war criminals from former Yugoslavia, thug militias, Cossacks beating the living hell out of anyone they please, all news medias under the control of a foreign country/replaced, and with a voting attendance in excess of 100%? No idea what rambling you were writing about nuclear weapons, but let me put it like this: Russia is the only country in the world that makes it very clear that it will use tactical nuclear weapons at a very early stage should a war not go well. So considering that Russia is saying that it will literally speaking set off the nuclear holocaust if it can't win a war, you don't have a case for criticizing anyone. Georgia you say? The country you invaded because your "peace keepers" that you'd conveniently forgot to tell anyone were there until they got shot at? And used it as an excuse to steal 1/5 of the country? Yeah, what about Georgia?

Who says it's a part of Russia? It's pretty much like saying that Poland, the Baltic states, huge parts of Russia, etc. were part of Germany when the Germans occupied it during the war.

I thought it was pretty darn stupid to say "but but, there are Russians there" as a justification for invading Crimea. And now the justification from some seems to be "it's an awesome holiday resort, of course we had to annex it". #1: The fact that only the worst countries in the world are standing on Russia's side in the UN vote means one very significant thing: Whilst not as powerful as the UN Security Council saying something, it certainly goes a long way towards indicating how many countries there are that will be prepared to sacrifice their economies for Russia's sake when the sanctions become more and heavier. -China, why aren't you helping us out here? -Eh? In case you didn't get the hint when we couldn't even bother raising our hand to vote in support of you in the UN, lemme make it clear to you: NO. I am not choking my economy because you wanted to look powerful and frightening, and now can't even fill your fridge. #2: If the fact that around 50% of the Crimeans are Russians means Russia can have it, then what about Chechnya? Russians don't even make up 2% over there, whilst Chechnyans make up for over 95% of the population. And they certainly made it very clear that they wanted to be independent. Too much logic?

So you hope that they get their ships back, but not the large part of their country that was recently unlawfully annexed? I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians feel more humiliated by Russia stealing Crimea, than by Russia stealing a bunch of obsolete Soviet era ships.

Well, I did write "USSR" so, hint hint. It is hard to gauge the exact percent of GDP spent on defense by the USSR, as 1, it was a very closely guarded secret (since the spending is what caused the downfall of the USSR, that makes sense), and 2, a lot of things were given free of charge to the military, e.g. nuclear missiles, which means that though a huge percent of GDP was spent on such things, it doesn't show up as defense spendings. What NATO equipment would they have Amra? And exactly why would Russia on the one hand be so "generous" as to return the Ukrainian fleet to its rightful owners, but on the other hand nick a considerable part of the same owner's country?

No, it can't. If it ever could have, we wouldn't have ended up with the USSR falling together. Whilst the US only spent ~5% of its GDP on on defense, the USSR spent ~48% of its GDP on defense, and could neither keep up, or have an even remotely functioning society and economy. If Russia all of a sudden can pose a serious threat to the US economy today, something out right magical has occurred since '91.

If you consider it to be "naive idealism" to think we should all be concerned about the fact that the North Korean concentration camps with all likelihood have killed more than the German concentration camps during the Holocaust, then your conscience must be disgustingly decayed. God knows I'm one heck of a pessimist, but you take the prize any day if that's your attitude.

Despite this we choose the sources that fill our beliefs and agendas and call alternative ones Kremlin/Chinese/Korean/US/EU propaganda. We are told that NK is full of death camps but noone had ever brought descent photo/video proofs of it though with current gadgets and satellites that's not a problem. Yes, there are plenty of photographic evidence of the North Korean concentration camps. All that I've seen in reports is just another poor third world country. Yes it has some hard regime but still I've seen no reliable proofs of endless tortures, killings and starvation there. Only words of some so called defectors with hard-to-prove record. At the same time I'vs seen tons of photo and video proofs of really horrible and massive murderings and tortures in Africa in recent years. Again, apart from the defectors, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. Just because you don't bother/want to see it doesn't mean it goes away. BTW recent news of some NK official been executed by mortar shot make me fear of NK artillery crews if they are really able to put the projectile just near the alone-standing human without all that modern fancy computers and guided munitions. Beg my pardon, but do you know much about mortars? For starters, it's not impressive, because the Best Koreans do it by firing one shell, and then setting up the pole that they tie to prisoner to where the shell impacted. A freshly minted child soldier could pull that off. Second, that is not impressive even on a first shot. Read "With the Old Breed". The Marines were doing it in the Pacific during the war, with equipment that was older, more worn out, and during combat, and they weren't alone in doing it. Even today such shots are expected from even half proficient soldiers even when just using a light setup, i.e. smaller baseplate, and no bipod.

Except that makes no sense what so ever, nor is it even a little morally just. For starters, Korea has been around as a civilized society for just as long as any country in the Western world, if not longer. They weren't planted here on Earth just before the Korean war. Considering that, and the fact that they have probably killed more people in their concentration camps than the Nazis did, they really are not something that is someone else's business. They're humans, and if we are, we can't ignore it.

Disagree. Most North Koreans would probably welcome an invasion by pretty much anyone at this stage, because let's face it, that country's citizens are worse off than even the unluckiest Europeans of the Dark ages. Due to the current state of the country, they can hardly escape. Not only is it very hard and dangerous to do so, your family will certainly be sent to concentration camps when it's discovered that you've fled, or attempted to. During the recent "election", I even read that some North Koreans who've escaped to China make their way back across the border so they can vote, as the poll attendance records are used to make sure that no one has fled.
