You fix your overheating problem with that water cooling system :rolleyes:From the sarcastic face in my defence, obviously, but on the actual topic, If you have low FPS i sugguest a reformat and maybe it will work
-
Hey guys im back watercooling installed 60 degress idle down to 20.. not bad.
---------- Post added at 23:09 ---------- Previous post was at 22:33 ----------
Just did benchmark 2 and got an average of 44 FPS, thank you everybody for there help.
For anyone else with the problem: I'm not too sure what actually fixed it.. i just reformatted a hard drive(which the game wasnt even on) and apart from that instaleld watercooling to my CPU and it just works better ^^
-
Well its nice your graphics card decided to work, but at 4fps !!!!:butbut:Did you get the game from Steam or is it hard copy or download from bis store etc..
It's from steam.
You did remove all the power connectors? Did you pull the card to set up your waterloops? Maybe your MB/CMROM-BIOs and your Vidcard's Bios(thru driver) reset its self...I removed one, im pretty sure it was power for my MOBO.
Didn't touch the card, no.
-
Now i have 99% gpu usage and 4 fps..
edit: I changed NOTHING since last time
-
Back after some PC problems.. tried installing water cooling, didnt fit as the bracket to mount it to CPU isnt there had no thermal paste had to get some and yeah.

I see your settings in the video, I get a 5-6fps boost by having Texture detail & Video Memory set to ‘Very High’, I know this goes against the grain of popular belief when setting a2 up, but there you go, not sure if its worth a try or if you tried it already.. Also if your having atoc disabled I would do the same with aa, you won’t notice that much difference and it should boost fps. I use AToc=7 and AA=Low, but when you disable atoc its almost like turning aa off, the difference is only slight i.e. skinny tree’s either way in both settings, wire’s and similar may be only slightly better with aa low, but really not that much. Also if you are using win7 do you have the game in ‘Program Files’ (64bit) or ‘Program Files (x86)’ (32bit), I have it in ‘Program Files’ (64bit), have read that it can help some games out, not sure why..
Just bits and bobs, but you never know..
:)
Ill try setting it to very high. I have it here "C:\Steam\arma 2 operation arrowhead" as thats on my SSD.

I still think that you got hardware problem with your pc,not settings.I had 25-50 fps while using first dual core 2006 motherboard with slower graphic card 4870x2 and intel 955 chipset.
Did you checked bios version?
Do you check cooling system ?
Is the graphic card have additional power cable connected ?
I still have yet to install the watercooling, ill check the power cable when i do so.

I see your problem ‘liamlight’ in the video (terrible).:(Its probably not going to help, but here it is anyway, my target line reads, at the mo:
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -nofilepatching -skipintro -winxp -world=empty -cpucount=4 -maxmem=2047 -name=Chris B etc……. Then the mods, of which there are lots…
Gpu usage on 2000vd in heavy areas is usually between 85-99% (for some reason never shows 100%) but does in msi. View distance increased to quite high i.e. 7000, will lower gpu usage a lot (cpu picks up the bill), but never really drops below 50%.
:)
I've added nofilepatching and world=empty we'll see what it does

Again fps seems higher but around 10 people on the server

(liamlight) If it makes you feel better i have a similar problem. I too have tried various tweaks and i get an increase between 2 & 7 FPS by reducing from V High to those as listed on the post (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthrea...66#post2081466). Which to me is an irrelevant increase, my GTX 590 is shown as using between 15% & 20% so i can only assume some issue somewhere but i cannot find it.My CPU temp never gets above 50c and i recently changed the thermal paste (i have a water cooler). NB & SB temps never move above 52c and i have extra fans fitted on these. I also have RAM fans fitted, and two case fans - basically temperature is not the reason.
Using 3DMarkVantage i get good results; for those in the know my average FPS in Jane Nash is 75ish and the results were; P26514 3DMarks Graphics Score 27885 CPU Score 23107. During these test the GPU's were running at 98%+ as you would expect for a 3D Benchmark program.
So back to your question which i would also like to see an answer for; why do i only get GPU usage figures of 15% - 20% which is obviously the reason for low frame rates?
In a way it does make me feel better but then again how can i when a friend with a lower pc have better frames>.<

Try these tried and tested tweaks:Already tried

heres a video clip of me recording ingame, THIS IS HIGHER FPS THAN I USUALLY GET for a strange reason

I have been reading this post , in the past i have had some problems with my computer , once i found i could run some programs very well and others not to well , it came to a point where i was about to upgrade but first i decided to check all connections in my computer , i found that my heatsink and fan was not connection properly , just one clip from one side of my heatsink was creating the problems .... what i found that help most for arma was ( page filing ) only being set to my fastest harddrive , which wasn't the hard drive my OS and game was running from , now i also use ram disk just for the page file , as you said in your other posts that other games run fine , i think your page is set to the drive arma is running from with only so much memory left on that drive , i believe it would create problems also having the page file coming from the same drive with so little memory left on that drive ....Would a heatsink affect my performance though? Only my C: (SSD) has the page-filing on.

ok right now got fps to compare I'd say you have some serious malfunction may be somewhere around hardware level. If someone will bring me such pc to fix what I will do:
1.check thermal paste between cpu and cpu cooling system + check all fans for graphic cards etc, chipset heatsinks etc.
2.Update win to SP1 download and install all updates except may be one ending on 1033,including ALL updates belongs to hardware drivers.
3.Check and updated bios if needed.
Also I'm notice some bug with double monitor. If you connect 2 monitors windows 7 still think that you have them both even you use 1.
Unfortunately I'm never try to check what is wrong exactly but it might effect you.
Also in your arma setting interface resolution show as windowed I never saw it as well. From my experience all windowed works very laggy.try to set your native resolution in that settings.
I blame the temperature of my CPU on thermal paste most likely, too. I am isntalling watercooling soon, i have it ready to put on but not too sure how to do it right now.
---------- Post added at 14:09 ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 ----------
Im getting annoyed that my GPU usage is good on the player list menu but as soon as i press OK to load in boom 3%-10% usage from a good 40+
-
Agreed on Speedstep doing its thing. You have VSync set to off in game, what about your actual GPU profile for the game? Have you set that to force off as well? Whatever program you are using to launch Arma with, is it set to run as administrator?Yes and it is now.
-
lol looks like amd speedstep technology.Dude,do what I say :)sell all drivers to detault.all game setting to lowest.set vd 2km.Run default game without any mods or settings or shortcuts benchmark standars maps 02 08 etc and tell use what you will get. After we can compare.Dont forget tell us your resolution.Better if you run 1920 1080 resolution.will be easy to compare.
It will be 1680 1050.
All lowest on E08 i got 17fps
On all lwoest with texture and terrain on normal i got 18

You never did say what SSD you have? and size? Do you know what SATA connectors(#1-6) your Storage is on? Did you set your Pagefile to only be on the SSD?(correct way). There are other threads in this forum about 5xx series sucking on GPU usage. Even Robster has lame usage, tho he say's its fast and smooth. It could be that GPU usage is incorrectly transposed for Nv cards?
Are you running anything on screen during game? As for your frames/FPS I would say your about right where a 560 should be on Cherno with 1920/1080 and grass and clutter. I could be wrong, other 560 users should chime in?
I use "aida64" to log. My 7970 is 100% usage, but it does bounce around when going into the map(2d) and using the Menus in game that also restrict your movement (cant move till menu is closed). Still would like to know how many lanes your 16x slot is using? Your MB only has 22 (the 890FX has 44) shared. have you tried with less RAM, only two slots used? Do you use the top PCI-e 1x slot?
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB, I don't know what connector it is in and i can try the pagefile thing if you let me know how:P
I use MSI Afterburner to show fps, nothing else.
Can't really answer the bottom bit as its a bit more technical. I havn't tried with less ram, no.
E: Check this video, i think there may be a problem with my CPU not sure if its normal to do it but heres a video, i had nothing open when doing it
-
Wrong! I am on AMD Phenom II X6 and NV 460 GTX - a lovely piece of sh*t- and everything runs fast and smooth... I thought you've already formatted cause watching at your statements I presume your issues lies between pc chair and monitor ;)As is my friend and runs better than me with a 560 ti it seems better pcs have lower performance.

Hey, I have the same graphics card as you, and I launched Day Z with Steam with Day Z commander. For some reason, my FPS dropped to 10, and even on the loowest settings it was 15.So, I exited Day Z, exited Steam, restarted, and launched Day Z without Steam. Boom, 60 FPS.
No idea why, but if you're having that problem try running without Steam.
I don't launch with steam.
-
What were the frame rate results you got?Check the last page, bottomish post.
Max settings, (all on very high) in cherno i get: around 15FPS with 20% usage
^^ in NW airfield i get around 25-30FPS constant with 30-35% usage
Needless to say it was alot smoother and even if i only had 15fps it lagged so much less.

I know it must be very frustrating having a machine that really should run Arma 2 without that many hiccups, but seemingly not able to. The cpu and gpu you have should be o.k. for running the game, it really would be great if something turns up that ticks the right box and it all falls in place. AMD is just as good as intel for A2, I run one and it produces what I need for the game using the amount of ai I want in the missions I make (sensible level).Daft question and no doubt you have answered it or done this already, but have you placed a single unit on a map (you) in a city, then in a wooded area then out in the open and compared frame rates. Don’t move the unit, just look to all points of the compass and make a note of each rate, repeat it in all the areas. Just the one unit, use a BIS unit not a mod, then list the result here, including where the test was done.
Possibly won’t help but its just a test to see the difference’s.
Use a 1000vd in all the areas.
Feel free to say 'no'..
I did it in elektro and NW airfield.

I know i shouldnt have AMD for gaming, i know that now, and my MB is crappy. (probs)
-
Yes it is a problem for most of us users with high-end computers. You can't run all on MAX.And you want to run ArmA2 on MAX, then you have to live with that you get low FPS.
Even on my system, i can't run all the settings on MAX.
I understand that but wether i have it on lowest or max, my fps is still bad.
-
well, that's a bad idea even on the fastest systems.I really shouldn't have any problems
E: Like i do anyway.
-
Pretty surprised this thread is going for so long. Just lower the cpu heavy settings. Model detail and viewdistance are the biggest killers, shadows should be high or off (low-normal is cpu shadows).anyway, run the benchmark missions (bench 1 and e08), post the results and your settings so we can compare.
Arma 2 benchmark average FPS: 27, all settings are on max they can be.
Even when i was on the editer running around 14fps seemed smooth and if i was to be using an enfield i wouldnt have had a problem hitting people with it whereas i would have on an actual server.
-
I was testing on a dayz server with people in, heres with doing what you said.

GTX 560 Ti bottleneck - Extremely low FPS.

Yeah guys, it's back..
Nothing changed since it worked fine at all, i just started playing again a few days ago and boom 30% GPU usage 15fps everywhere.
