ArmA 2 C-130J and MV-22 Redux
handicap replied to sakura_chan's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
It's all good. Doing a fuel dump in this thing actually disables the countermeasure system to avoid any and all chances of the fuel igniting. There are so many redundant safety systems on this thing that it's ridiculous. The pilot never has to touch the controls once he's above 25' off the ground if he doesn't want to. You can program it to fly search patterns, waypoint flights, everything and it will take over at 25' and fly the entire route all the way back to 25' off of the ground, where the pilot has to once again take over. -
Isla Duala for Arma 3 (WIP)

Agreed. My team runs ops 2-3 times a week on various maps and, while it's nice to visit some of the more nostalgic A2 Scenery, I wouldn't go back to A2 itself. So much of the core game is improved, in my eyes, over A2 that I couldn't give it up. Mods do make the difference though. Without the modding community and what it has already brought to A3 I probably would still be playing A2. As for combining all of the islands into one map.. I'm still pretty damn giddy and have been daydreaming about such a map since it was first noted a page or two back. The scenarios one could dream up with a map like that are endless. -
Autohover: No Flying normally from a complete standstill on the ground with a bird that was placed in the 2d Editor, not by MCC or Zeus. Version: Fixed Ramp (Latest release version of the mod pack) When sitting flat and level on the ground the bird doesn't do anything abnormal. As soon as you give it enough power and the wheels break contact with the ground, while still remaining flat and level, the bird will begin to fly backwards. You have to dip the nose quite a bit to get it to stop and hold still so, while at a hover, you're canted forward about 20 degrees or more (I'm no expert, just a guess from eyeballing it). I noticed this once before and it seemed to have been triggered by Raven's LIFTER mod; We had taken a HEMMT Fuel truck out to a littlebird that had run out of fuel. The Chinook flew fine on the way out but upon retrieving the truck to fly back it began acting as if it was facing a severe headwind. I almost had to point the nose straight down to get any speed out of it. Upon arriving back at base I released the fuel truck and it de-spawned / respawned into the cab of the Chinook and took me down in a fireball.. but that's a known issue with lifter from what I understand. It's just that even with lifter disabled I was still running into this problem on the server as well as my own local machine.

The bootcamp patch for ARMA 3 broke the custom sounds on 100% of all weapons mods, requiring a config hotfix from the authors. If you look around some of the other weapons threads I'm sure there is a person or two who could either point you in the right direction or instruct you on how to change the config to get your sounds properly working again. This is not a missing file or something you broke. Just a value that needs to be changed in the config.

I recently updated our server copy of this mod, as well as had all of our players update to the latest version and now she's acting a bit goofy in the air. Flying level, the bird tries to accelerate to the rear, so to sit in a level hover the pilot is actually having to nose her down by about 15 degrees or more. We experienced it once before and I even spawned in new ones/tested them alone in the editor and was still running into this issue. I also tried it sans other mods (save for CBA) and in increments (turning the mods back on one at a time) and couldn't get it to fly normally. Any idea if I'm doing something wrong here? It's acting like there's a strong headwind coming from whatever direction this big beautiful bitch is pointed and I can't figure out why.

ArmA 2 US Helicopters Import to A3
handicap replied to Αplion's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
There are several people who have stepped up to support this mod, actually. Numerous hot fixes have been released in light of the things that game patches broke and one other modder has even re-released the entire pack with an overhaul of basic funtionality and flight physics. Don't be such a debbie downer about it. -

handicap replied to warlord554's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Nobody was arguing that it doesn't happen. I was pointing out that it's harder to do it with a bird not designed with shipboard deployments in mind, which is what you would be dealing with right here with the SOAR birds. On another note: Are you guys going to animate the suspension like Yura did with his 60 series aircraft? What about fast rope bars? (I don't know the proper nomenclature for them) Will they extend/retract via pilot/crew command or will they be fixed and the doors in turn be fixed open/out? -

Are you guys going to worry about flex rotor animations while in flight/spinning up on the ground? I only ask because, while they're neat, I haven't seen them implemented very well anywhere as of yet and almost feel that the vanilla rotor anims look better. The flex animations (Konyo's Chinook, Yura's UH/MH pack, etc) almost feel more like a novelty than something that's actually needed. -

I think folding rotors is only one of the things you need to be concerned with in regards to Nimitz operations with aircraft not designed to be operated and maintained aboard a ship. Below are some comparison shots of the Seahawks and Blackhawks (Navy/Army) and what you need to look at is how the Seahawk's rear landing gear has been moved up the fuselage of the aircraft. This helps with lift operation as the bird doesn't take up nearly as much room on a lift with it's gear brought in that close together and also helps with flight deck maneuvering as it doesn't have an on the ground turning radius nearly as wide as that of it's land based brothers. Folding rotors is only one part of the problem. The pushed up rear landing gear also allows them to fold the tail in alongside the rotors which -really- gives crews the space needed to maneuver the bird around both in the hangar and on the flight deck. Yura Petrova has some good Seahawk models in A2 that he's rumored to be bringing to A3. If you're not trying to take them from hangar to flight deck though there really is no problem. Otherwise.. Yeah.. -

Your work so far has been pretty impressive (And I was honestly sad when you were pretty much run out of the Make ArmA not War contest) but I have to admit. These, while nicely done, look a bit small to me. That battle rifle was no small rifle, especially if you look at it when being held by the Chief while also keeping in mind that he's 7 feet tall and then some. It could just be me though. I would look at the scale of a FAMAS from one of the packs available for ARMA 3 as the BR seems to have taken a lot of it's styling points from that rifle. -

I came here today for the EC635 WIP shot on page 1.. What I found was some of the most detailed and thuroughly scrubbed ARMA 3 modeling work I've ever seen. You've riled up an entire forum and group of players pretty much. Congrats gents. I almost feel like I missed out on something magical by never stumbling across this mod in ARMA 2. Looks like I'm gonna have to reinstall the game and check it out. Please, please, pretty please bring that EC-135 to life. ;) It's a beautiful helicopter I would love to share with my team in ARMA 3. Aside from that, keep up the good work, keep your spirits high and don't listen to the asshats who post in here demanding release dates or access to the software for testing purposes. Those of who know how to wait for a damn good thing will be here waiting, patiently, maybe quietly, but waiting for release none-the-less. Should update the EC635 to its current model if you guys do decide to go through with it. http://img.planespotters.net/photo/326000/original/329-Eurocopter-Deutschland-Eurocopter-EC635_PlanespottersNet_326421.jpg (1003 kB) -
US Helicopters (HAFM OVerhaul) MOD
handicap replied to kimi_uy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
You would have to open up the .pbo and unwrap the config to adjust the values within to match your USMC faction so that the birds would be associated with the USMC family of units. It would be easier to place the empty birds where the military bases are and just link them to the profile module of ALiVE after setting it to profile linked items, in the editor. You could drop them as empty or crewed units, much easier than trying to adjust config values to make ALiVE pick them up. <3 <3 <3 <3 -

Can I have your internet babies? Seriously though, as someone who's done pretty much nothing but fly helicopters in ARMA for about 6 years now I can't even begin to explain the chub I have been rocking since discovering this WIP thread. Well, I could, but I'd likely get banned. I cannot express how much I am looking forward to your mod pack via a few key strokes. Cake or beer.. Pick your poison and I'll gladly send you all some when the initial release roles around. -

^This^ These rifles are beautiful and we couldn't appreciate them anymore than we already do even if they came with a free box of thin mints. Take your time boss. We'll be here waiting no matter how long it takes.

US Helicopters (HAFM OVerhaul) MOD
handicap replied to kimi_uy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Did you by chance fix the flight profiles of the Cobra and Huey? (Y/Z models) That was my only real complaint with Aplion's initial pack.. The Cobra being incredibly sluggish and the Huey being incredibly nimble.. So nimble on it's roll axis that it was unflyable via M&KB. Also, as with everything everyone else said, you have my team's appreciation and thanks for continuing on with Aplion's work. -

Truth. Do you hate NAVAIR as much as I do? :P Rotor tip lights might be hard.. I was thinking about them the other day and how one would go about animating them between the stopped/low rpm/high rpm animation states of the rotors. They would be nice though, a neat touch for an ARMA 3 aircraft. -

This^ With that kind of distance to cover you could give your mission briefs in the bird/boat and, pending you could cleverly place something like an ammo or VAS box with attachTo, allow everyone to work over their loadouts as they approach. It would be interesting to say the least and I wouldn't mind it at all. -

I'll get that to you tonight. Textures may be partially accurate on the existing bird, I haven't looked at them myself but there are only 6 lights called out in the diagram. Two midwing, two nacelle, one on the outboard side of each tail wing. Nice Photoshop work. Fooled me without even a second thought.
