  1. I think I may have been a little hasty. I think perhaps someone broke something rarther than fixed it, but the end result seems to play much better that the current released AI. I find that soldiers seem to stay exactly where they spawn/were placed in campaign. They never move and always seem to do the same thing each time i play a mission. The first few times I played the game seem more polish and finished, as I guess it plays out more like the mission designers wanted. However, you lose the "anything can happen" sandbox feel. Anyone else find this? I think it needs a bit of a review?

    AI Improvement

I have to say that tonight I tried the latest beta (no mods installed) and play good morning takistan, first fighting mission in OA campaign. It was a HUGE improvement. I'm guessing that at the moment the devs are really getting their teeth into the AI and fixing/tuning it in preparation for Arma 3, and it seems they are making really very good progress. Hopefully you guys can get the beta installed and give it a go, tell me if I'm imagining it :) Better yet, try the new beta with some other AI mods and see if they work well together? They have really made some excellent changes it seems.
  3. Wow, somebody has fixed something (not seemingly in the changelog) that has made a HUGE difference in the AI for the cmapaign. I have just replayed (multiple times) good morning Takistan, and it has really been great fun. My own squads now don't seem to get stuck and not advance from the runway and into the village. In addition, everytime I have played this mission before, the final phase of clearing the second village, nothing ever happened. There were no solderis there. Now there is some of the best fighting there. I haven't managed to do the mission yet, as we suffer too many losses and have to try again. I'm actually going to play all the campaigns again as it seems as though the AI is now pretty good. Hopefully this is just the start of the goodness we can expect? Perhaps some fixes that will find their way into Arma3 :D The performance hit I got with the last beta seems gone. Excellent work all round!
  4. like i said in the last thread that featured this video... one day, games will be freaking awesome.

    Arma 3 and SLI/Xfire?

that's a very matter of fact sweeping statement that if you read the forums you'll find isn't true for everyone. however, it does run fine for most it seems.

    Arma 3 and SLI/Xfire?

Perhaps the more popular dayz will mean that the profiles for BIS games will perhaps move up in priority for the two card manufacturers? Time will tell. I had issues recently running a couple of 6970's in x-fire (random flashing/strobing). I've since sold them and moved back to nvidia (not in SLI) and everything is great.

Is Arma 3 going to feel desolate?

Most war zones tend to empity pretty quickly. People may still be there but they hide cos, u know, itis dangerous.
  8. Thank God for the much needed physx overhaul :)

    ASR AI Skills

Aye, well we can't claim it is all asr_ai, as I have twp's two other ai mods running too, but they seem to work well together, just wish fights lasted long enough for the suppression to be a factor. I love ACE too, although it has quite a steep learning curve. The problem is it makes the campaign do strange things, so I can't use it for single player :(

    ASR AI Skills

wow, just wow. I've been searching for the best mods to play the campaign with. I have for the moment settled with asr_ai, jsrs, tpw_ai_los and twp_ai_suppress and it is unbelievable the change this has made. all ai, my own team and the opfor seem natural and intelligent, and I suspect I have only just begun to work out how to actually use these mods properly! great congratulations, thank you for increasing my enjoyment of this great game. arma 2 really is quite limitless when configured properly. On with my question, I am having problems prgressing in the campaigns because the AI is actually too good for me now :( Does the difficulty settings in arma 2 have any effect on the game anymore, or is it solely the userconfigs? I am playing with veteran and aim set to 80% for both team and opfor. I want to have longer firefights, so should I change accuracy in game menu or userconfigs. If I want to reduce aim skill globally what would be the best way? I also think it is too easy for the player to hit. Can anyone recomment a mod/setting that adds just a little more weapon sway/recoil even when rested/prone? thanks again

    More realistic/depressing feeling

I think the speed of the growth of this thread means it is an important subject to many that play arma 2. I wish the suppression mechanic was better. My other major concern along these lines are how many weapons seems poorly modelled and very similar to one another. Particualry big MGs like a vehicle mounted .50cal. When being shot with these monsters I wish the bullets had greater impact. Really kicking up dirt, destroying walls etc, you should be able to feel the power more than you do currently. Even an lmg often feels like any other assault rifle. There is a reason the AR is such an important member of a fire team, the huge firepower the lmg produces, yet ingame it doesn't matter so much. I hope more work can go into this. Much of the value of firepower should go into suppressing enemy, the effect on you as a player when suppressed should be along the lines of what happens when your adrenaline kicks in. Shaking, hearing your own heart beat and breathing which slightly block other stimulae. In panic, perhaps the inability to get off the floor for a time. However you do it, if you gain fire superiority you should really gain an advantage.

    Arma 3 hands on @ Gamescom 2012!

please copy Riouken's excellent video exactly with the chopper of your choice which goes down as quickly as you say to small arms fire or lose all credibility.

    Development Blog & Reveals

I thought vespa was asking about the animations, why are people talking about key configurations? You can change these. There is a great animation mod which allows for many more stances, grenade rolling/lobbing etc. I wonder why BIS never seem to make use of modders work. If I were a modder I could think of nothing better than my work being used as a base for future game content. From what I can see of the vidoes the new animations look good. They may seem clunky to people due to the volume of different things that are possible? Must be a steep learning curve when you go and pick up the game at a stand for the first time?
  15. New to arma series, and I have to say I am a little surprised by the lack of PvP. Where are the clan v clan games, why isn't there some kind of ladder? I'm guessing it may have something to do with uneven nature of Blufor and Opfor? It may be beacuse I came to arma 2 so late that many have stopped playing it so much? It's a shame as I think clan v clan in large scale matches would be awesome! Vs the AI really just doesn't cut it. The best I have found so far is project reality, but there is only ever one server running it with more than 20 players, so I guess I am alone in wanting this type of gameplay? Or as this thread states, arma 2 just isn't balanced enough for good PvP competitive play.
  16. Many reports over on DayZ website that there now seems to be heavy artifacts occurring in the game, aat the same spots for everyone who looks at them. Similar to the kind of artifacts that used to occur randomly, but isolated to individual and was fixed by shutting down. Looking in Stary and Green Mountain, everyone sees the same thing. Reporting here in case it is beta patch related.

Why is this game not more popular?

Guys don't beat yourselves up too much. As I said earlier, I started playing dayz, and slipped into arma 2. I spend plenty of time on the dayz forum as well as here, and there are certainly many more pricks over there. However, when something becomes as popular as dayz it is a magnet for every socially inept asshat on the net. The dayz community is so big that there are also many good players there too. Please don't generalise player bases and judge individuals on their individual merits. You guys all seem great. I was playing project reality the other day, and I was struggling to get parachutes out of the chopper cargo at the start - NOOB ALERT. Everyone was really cool and helpful. The arma community I would say is better than most out there. It really helps that it is a mature community. Pat yourselves on the back, keep it up :)

Why is this game not more popular?

it is unpopular (in comparison) because of the bugs and clunky interface in my opinion. I haven't managed to finish a single campaign yet, and the campaign is an absolute must for new players to learn such a complicated game. It requires huge amounts of patience. In addition I think it is missing "a killer app", in terms of online play. there are all these toys, but there not wrapped up into something awesome yet. I tried domination, but it just seems to go on and on, I die and spawn back, grab a lift in a chopper and get back in the fight. it doesn't feel like it matters. the popularity of dayz shows the power of online gaming. if arma 3 can come up with a PvP game type (or preferably types - we are all different) then it will take off. 90% of arma is awesome! once you have the player base you have to keep them, as you need the numbers online to keep the variety. the PvE and coop stuff seems like it is done very well. and with such a healthy community there is almost limitless variation to download. conclusion - sort out some great PvP options FTW.
  19. I thought the fix to the video memory detection may have solved the flashing I get when playing the beta in crossfire, new video taken of the strobing effect in arma 2 beta. I guess I will have to stop playing arma 2 in crossfire when the beta is released :( video link:
  20. er, you have the total wrong end of the stick re dayz. there are a large amount of idiots playing - i would say 50-50 good bad. the bad arent attracted to dayz cos of its setting or theme, they play it to grief people because it is popular, in the same way idiots hack games that are popular (dayz) or are attracted to chat rooms of popular games. that's all. when dayz dies down a little, the idiots will go. you are correct that it is degenerated into shoot on sight, as the few have spoilt it. the only way to avoid this is play in a group. however, part of the attraction is the fear of human players, snipers around every corner. if pvp kills it for you it aint the game for you. in addition, if you think rocket made it impossible to win... you totally missed the point. it isnt about winning but about the journey. there's no point to the game.
  21. still getting a flickering when running beta in crossfire on my AMD 6970s, seems to be lighting induced.
  22. stupid black and white debates and fanboism. if you don't like dayz ignore it and be thankful that it makes BIS go from strength to strength. now they have the funds to really polish arma 3. all those die hard arma fans be thankful your favourite studio is doing really great sales before they even release their latest game. dayz only fans, ignore arma... those with a normal balancd outlook on such matters, enjoy both games and enjoy the cross polination of ideas/features. two games for the price of one.

Arma 3 Community Alpha - Announcement!

hmm should you not just give the alpha to those who pre-purhchase (for a slight reduced price). Eveyone on these boards will be buying anyways... buggy or not probably.
  24. Trying to record the strobing issue, I noticed that when I press record (FRAPS), it stops the issue occuring. All I can capture is what happens after the strobing stops, the gradual return to normal light. Hope this helps.
  25. Hi all. I've recently started playing arma 2 through dayz. With the latest set of beta patches and the purchase of a new HD6970 vga to run in crossfire with my existing card, I am getting strobing issues. The screen flickers bright white, gets more intense until whole screen is saturated, then goes dark. The screen then gradually returns to normal. No other game gets this issue. I noticed this playing dayz, but am I half way through the campaign red harvest and I never get the issue then. I then ran the armory in arma 2 with only 93965 running (no other mods) and the strobing occurs. If I disable crossfire it stops. No amount of setting changes seem to prevent it. I'm not sure which beta version this started in as I only bought the new card this week, and the betas have been coming thick and fast - great support from this studio! Thank you for any/all help received in this matter, I only bought the extra card for arma 2/dayz/arma 3.
