Do you mean you went to 1.62 now want to go back to 1.60.. If yes, did you make a back-up folder for your arma 2 game ? If no, then a re-install is the only way to go back, I went back, but did a back-up first to avoid a full re-install. If you go into the section for this, and I'm pretty sure they will move this. It explains all this regards the situation using RC or beta's in general. :)

SLX wounds tend to work like that, the enemy will heal you but usually only if they feel safe to do so, plus they remove your weapons at the same time and will, most of the time, stand guard over you. I find that quite a good thing to have in the game, our real UK forces treat enemy units if they are down and they feel its safe to do so, in real life, so why not in-game.. Provided they don’t run over and treat the enemy while there is too much danger around, seems o.k. to have that available.. ---------- Post added at 00:48 ---------- Previous post was at 00:46 ---------- I run a mix of slx and gl4 and a little zeus, I get the freeze at the initial start of the first game/test, after that its fine. Go out of the game completely, then fire it up again and go back in and the freeze happens again, only first game/test start up. I think it’s a slx thing, not dead sure though, but if I remove slx I get no freeze.. But I have to run slx & gl4 mix, best ai mods available, with the right combo, imo.

CPU @ 55~ …... Do you live somewhere really hot ? If yes then that could probably account for some of it, but it still seems high to me. How are the cores fairing, do you get good activity across all ? Have you monitored them in task manager? How hot does your gpu get? Have you put msi-afterburner in, or was it already in when you got the pc ? If it was already in have you run a Kombuster check recently ? (don’t do it), just asking.. -

Well, now that one, sorry both, reliable sites have it (Armaholic & Armed Assault), I have your great island. Not sure what that original download site was, but it wasn’t good. It’s a great island/map, very high performance and considering you say its your first, wow. Thank you for your hard work and giving us the use of your island/map.. -

I make missions for the group I play in and must admit, all the missions I’ve made, at least one for each of the islands available 150ish and its never bothered me (maybe till now, thanks for that :p). However, I started video gaming in the 70’s, nothing cast a shadow in games then.:butbut: Fxaa has been in the configs for a while now (depending on what patch/beta you were at), they have put in into the in-game settings now, but I have reverted back until everything gets a little more stable, so using it again in the configs. Your right tho great addition.. However, for mine: Video Memory = very high.. For me, sorry I know its against the grain but it gives me +5-6fps against = default. Also v-sync definitely off, stretch the machines legs a little, if you get really high fps watch out for tearing, that or buy a 120hz monitor. Objects = very low (not always, but if your trying to gain fps in heavy missions, I find it helps) PP = off, just personal pref and use the PPAA=2, PPAA_level=2, and in-game aa set to ‘low’ Agree with defragging, auto everyday, also closing and keeping an eye on running processes (task manager). 4 cores work pretty well across the board, max mem I have at 2047 (don’t know why, but I have a 2gb card for arma 2, so it seems to work well), never uses more than 800 really. Few other tweaks as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Vagrant. I would say you have got, what can be, the most annoying and rewarding game, all at the same time. I have never ever played any BIS made campaigns. Its all about the ‘Editor’ for me and playing as part of a group. I make missions for our group along with a couple of other members (only 30 or so of us in our group, all old friends really), that’s where the uniqueness, if I can call it that, is, no other game can compete with the experience it can give you, just making a mission is a hobby in itself. So I would say, go and have a really good look at the ‘Editor’ mess around with it, test and experiment. Make a simple mission (only takes around 5-10 mins) and play it, then if you like that try adding things to the mission, basic patrol scripts can completely alter a simple mission, no need for you to write a script just google arma 2 ‘patrol script’. Also there is ’Possibility of Presence’, Placement Radius’ etc, don’t think that, well I am making the mission, I know what's going to happen. There is enough going on in the editor that can make a self made very simple mission very consuming and different every time. Its all in there and possible. RYD_HAC is one mod that gives you simple missions without really having to think about it much, also more in-depth complex missions, maybe for later. There is a whole world inside that editor, just needs finding. Don’t think you can’t go into the editor because your not used to playing the game, it’s a great way to get used to playing the game, its how I and most of the group I play as part of did it, see how it works, the possibilities it offers.. -
Looks like its not the fxaa then, or did you try the tree experiment ? What beta are you on or don’t you run beta. Is it 1.60 your at or the latest 1.62 and whatever beta it is. I stayed put at 1.60 94444 beta as I changed to the new 1.61 which proved a little troublesome so I reverted back (I had made a full backup, so no big problem), best point backwards was 94444, seems to run very well. What fps are you getting in heavy islands such as Podagorsk shown in the pics I put on, I run at around 65-75 in those shots. It only starts to really effect fps after 70ai have been placed and get into combat, but not a great deal, not more than -10 to -15fps difference. Above 120 or so in combat, then I start to see a real dip starting to happen, so I plan and make missions for my group that don’t exceed this amount in combat at one time. Its just simple planning and mission design we all have to do. Anyhow, the building thing: I must admit that’s an odd type of thing, beats me, just glad I don’t see it happening on mine. The shadow flickering, can't say as I have noticed it, but with it being arma, well, you know.. I set my in-game settings first, then change my configs, i.e. to 80000 on 3D performance. AToC gives effects to tree’s and grass, fuller more detailed from what I see (aa thing). AToc =6 gives it on all tree’s (arma 2 & OA tree’s) but not on grass, there is far too much needless clutter in the arma series, so I want thinner grass and fuller trees’s. Its all personal pref really. Scene complexity does dash around a little, best to get your in-game settings done first then alter it afterwards, they should stay put then, I check it from time to time, but if I have been messing in-game with settings it can and does move around. There are a few config settings you can tweak, but best set in-game settings first, come out do your config go back in and see. Testing and tweaking is all part of the fun, well to me it is. A battle to achieve good performance with the best look to the game you can get from your system, of course its all ongoing when using beta's. I run 2000vd on the ground and 5000-6000 in air combat, I can only have 10000 reasonably when sightseeing in the air, just me and an aircraft. I can raise upto 3500 on the ground without too much, if any, difference in fps. Arma 2 can be better in some circumstances played at around 3000-3500, can help performance (don’t know why, but you know arma) it depends on how many ai are around, but you just don’t need anything above 2000 really, on the ground, imo. If your sniping, handy to have ‘IVD’ (instant view distance) so you can nip in and out of longer view distance without too much trouble.

Hello doveman I run these settings; Terrain Detail ‘V/high Object detail ‘very low’ to get clutter away, if there is going to be a lot going on, i.e. lots of ai AA ‘low’ PPAA (fxaa) 2 & 2 good settings other than the problem you may be having with it. Performance far better than smaa, imo. Shadow 'High' as no discernable difference to v/high 3D_Performance=80000; AToC=6; PPAA, as said 2&2, in-game I have aa set to low, but get a high to very high look with using fxaa and the aa set ‘low’ Summer version of the same shot/place if anyone is interested.. 'sum_rep' mod works on other islands, not just chernarus, not all though, adds a little colour and greener grass.. Mousesmoothing=30 Scene_complexity=150000; My fov is more or less the same but 0.75 & 1.2 Just tweaking, we all have to do it...:) ---------- Post added at 00:03 ---------- Previous post was at 23:56 ---------- Hello ekko 1/ I don’t have this problem 2/ have seen this from time to time 3/ the terrain does cast shadows, go behind a hill and you go into shadow, if the sun is the other side.. 4/ try fxaa for a smoother look to this i.e. PPAA=2 & PPAA_Level=2, of course the problem above might occur for you as well, not sure. There again it may not be that, worth a look at fxaa.. Or is it all just me..;)

Have you tried it without your fxaa on, I see your using it via the PPAA (2 &2) settings and I think it may be that regards the tree’s. In life we can’t zoom in so the idea is as we walk towards the tress’s in game they change gradually (not as noticeable), but when we zoom in (in-game) they give a bit of a weird effect, having to adjust quickly. I use ppaa settings the same as you have them but its a lot less pronounced, but I do get the same thing only very slightly when zooming in (doesn’t bother me, but as said its not as bad), however on the other hand I use a different FOV to you. The buildings issue could be related to the above, I have not seen that, but it could be down to that, quality of image changing quickly when zoomed in against approaching more slowly, therefore less noticeable. I would just try ppaa 0 & 0, and using a low aa in-game, to see if it’s the same.. The shadows thing or whatever it is, seems to be a bug, to me anyhow.. Your configs seem to say your chasing fps a little ? (I know we all tend to do that in the series)

What view distance do you have set ? The lower the view distance the more your gpu will work, I use 2000vd on the ground, then 5000-6000 in the air in combat, and can only have full view distance (10000) when just sightseeing in the air (i.e. just me and a plane/heli etc). -
Are you playing full screen or in windowed mode ?

PMC Rugen - 25km european terrain

Well, snake man, I have had many of your terrains for quite a while now, Somalia, Rattler, 51km desert, Cat, Rugen, AEC and then all the VTE terrains, admittedly not all finished but great work and ideas (vast projects). I use them all from time to time with the rest of the islands I have. The 51km desert I use a lot for testing (huge fps). Probably missed some out, but, well the trio for sure and also I think there was a Falklands based one if I remember rightly, will look my hdd out with them all on. Anyway its nice to be able to say, thank you for your work :). -
Not put on the thread for a while been testing hard: 3.01, are we still on that? I made a vid tonight of TPWC working with parts from gl4 and slx. I will have to edit it as its over 4gb long, that’s even with it at 25% recorded on msi afterburner. Anyhow, it shows all these mods at work, it’s a combat vid (only a skirmish) based in a small village (Takistan), it shows the ai using buildings, to position themselves at windows, doors, balconies, rooftops etc, and firing from those positions. Now this happens normally with the mix our group uses, but with TPWC it seems to let them position a little more nicely, how! who knows, its all upto the ai, they make the decisions. The fire-fight went on for around 20mins or so, I placed myself in town as a preacher, figured they wouldn't shot me that way.. I was also a unit for the Russians (the attackers) but left myself well out of harms way and let my comrades get on with it. They are all ai, I am the only human on the map. I put the civilian in the village so that I could watch how the BAF squads got on. I will have to edit it to get it uploaded to youtube, or put it in parts. Will work on it over the weekend and try and get it up asap and link it in the thread. Any ideas on why the lower quality recording setting (i.e.25%) makes the picture darker than for real? Still quite watchable on 720hd full screen, but not great quality, I am a bit hopeless video making.. The mods working great at present, but still testing, have to do a full on town attack, building to building, now may have to do that in a slightly higher quality setting maybe 40%, just takes soooo long to upload these things.. Why does 24mins or so cost over 4gb, seems alot to me...

I understand Beta’s and the ‘be it on your own head’ type thing that goes along with them, that’s fine. I'm playing back upto Beta 94444 as it seemed to me the best place to sit tight for a while. I also understand the dangers that can be involved in using the RC, I put 1.61 in, after first backing up, then after viewing 1.61, went back to 1.60, I got a little worried things were wondering slightly, textures etc.. However I’m a little confused that in essence this new patch 1.62 is actually going to be the sequel, if you like, to patch 1.59, as it says its not compatible with 1.60 or 1.61, therefore have we done a Bobby Ewing, and come out of the shower with a chunk of time missing/forgotten about, i.e. 1.60 + poor old 1.61, which really didn't go anywhere much, both just sort of never happened. (your probably all too young to understand the ‘Dallas’ analogy, still) :D Don’t mind reinstalling I have all hard copies, so there is no issues if I have problems with my backup process, but when I saw “not compatible with 1.60 or 1.61†it sort of surprised me... Of course it could just be me getting old :butbut: -
ATI Cards and Postprocessing Effects

Maybe of interest to ATI/AMD card users. I have the following setting: AToc=6 PPAA=2 PPAA_Level=2 In-game the AA set to low and PP off (just personal pref the PP). The effect I get in-game is high-very high AA even though its only set to low. So its very nice to have AA looking like its set on high-very high without any performance issues. Running 12.1 in ccc. -

That could quite possibly be ai driving, that’s how it used to look in ofp and still does if set on safe in A2 when a faster vehicle meeting another that’s slower overtakes. Very surprised you never saw this happen. I too have played from launch of series, even buying the original xbox so I could play OFP Elite, out of curiosity to see what the console version had. Driving in that version was o.k as well.. _____ (side note; I even bought a 360 for Dragon Rising, shame, nevermind). _____ Anyhow, the ai do drive reasonably well when set on ‘Safe’, it changes on ‘Aware’ but only if they encounter enemy units, then it usually can go a little daft. Its ‘Safe’ mode that produces really quite good driving, but you do have to think before designing a mission i.e. road junctions that are bad should have speed reduced to ‘Limited’ just prior to the junction as they tend to overshot if driving something that moves quicker, (trucks are not so bad) then increase speed to normal after the junction (via waypoints) its not hard to form a list of bad points on islands if your making lots of missions and have set routes you want them to use. Road junction manoeuvring has improved greatly imo with them taking a wider turn when turning right from a junction, but sometimes they can occasionally get hung up if they take the corner too short. Its all planning, if your going to make a mission for an island go on a drive with an ai unit and find out where he has problems, then plan around that, by either route, reducing speeds or better placed waypoints etc. Set them on ‘Safe’ when driving, we all know they will shift to another mode when they have contact with enemy units, but that’s just one of those things. They are not perfect by any means but they have improved over time imo. Yes, I agree perhaps ofp had slightly better driving but its not that different to the ability they have now, with the right planning & mission design.. Lets face it they are never going to be perfect..

Ah, then don’t put a barrel on the road.. They slow and stop now and wait for rabbits to cross, whereas they used to turn off road and go a km or two out of their way to get around. Bagdad is a problem map, there are road blocks on there (built in), so using a little initiative goes a long way when planning a mission. Podagorsk on the other hand is great, I find. As said it depends on island used, most I test driving on are good, I have around 150ish islands inc the newer redone ofp & some arma islands (using caa1 etc). I would say two thirds of them are reasonably o.k. Infact the arma islands seem better still. Obviously once battle commences and debris gets on the roads, then its anyone's guess..

Don’t really agree with the last two posts, however not sure regards the campaign driving, never done the campaigns, so it could still be bad there. In the Editor I find the single ai driving has improved quite a lot. I can put an ai unit at one side of the island/map and a waypoint at the other side, set the unit to ‘Safe’ then run a test with no other waypoints and most of the time they get there without too much problem using roads and lanes, can depend on the island though. On the whole I find them pretty good, bridges can be a problem sometimes. However the group driving can still be a bit of a problem, but its not as bad as it used to be. If you make missions, as I do, then plan around ai driving, its not hard to do, same with truck convoys etc, just a little planning..

Well I reverted back, to 1.60 beta 94444. The RC has a lot of work to do, so will hold back until the official 1.61 patch. Although if the lower res images are still going to be in 1.61 will probably stay at the beta I am at. I can maybe understand why there is a move towards lower grade textures.. BIS! after all these years of being on top of things :j:. -

It’s a great video, but I think they will move it to the section for vids. Does it make me want to play arma more, no, the ‘Editor’ is the only reason I keep playing the arma series, that and the fantastic mods available. OFP/VBS2/Arma series, they excel in the genre because of the ‘Editor’ imo. But as said, great video, you must keep them going.. -

Running a mix of GL4 & SLX and the usual ace/cba, nothing else as I was testing it against this mod. Got lots of ‘0’s on screen (sorted now see edit & replys), ran with and without debug and it’s the same either way. Not sure if anyone else is having this problem. The '0's seem to be the balloons above the heads, or where the balloons would appear.. Edit: sorry should have mentioned its 2.07. Edit again: just to confirm, tried it without GL4 & SLX and its still there.. Edit: '0' issue sorted, link pic removed..

Have you tried any other games with the card ? probably the next thing to do, if it’s the same, then the card looks like its given up..

Character runs slower than everyone else

Have you got the game patched to the latest, i.e. 1.60 if its Arrowhead. Edit: If you have your weapon raised i.e. rifle or whatever, then break into a run, you will run slower, same happens when you crawl. Just a thought..
