    can't run ARMA II.

O.k. so your looking at Six updater, on the left hand side can you see the game mentioned in the column, should be A2OA or similar ?

    can't run ARMA II.

Small print below where it says in large letters 'Play With Six' '2.9.7pre' click that..

    can't run ARMA II.

O.k. I’m scratching my head now, but watch someone will pop in and say something simple and sort the whole thing out . Still, if not, the only way I can see it launching now is using Six Updater, it launches the game slightly differently.. Do you have it, or could you download it, its free, here I am not familiar with the all new version, so if you download it, get the older version so I can follow along, in the small print 2.9..

    can't run ARMA II.

So you have the beta and the version number is ***** 296, yes.. and it still won't launch from that either ? your launching from the beta icon ?

    can't run ARMA II.

Lets see if it gets you into the game first!;) Yes you may be able to on some servers, but the idea is to get the game at least running first, then next step..:) Don't forget it does not change your game as such so don't worry..

    can't run ARMA II.

O.k. the other route: I am running the beta number below it is stable as far as I can tell, couple above have a few issues, so to be safe use this one. It will take you through the update process, the update should be pretty fast, once finished, it will tell you in the 'flying folder box', click o.k. Go into your Arma 2 game folder again then into a folder called ‘Expansion’, then into ‘Beta’, in there you will see the beta icon game launch ‘arma2oa’ launch the game.. Check first if you have a folder in your Arma 2 folder called 'Expansion', if you do look inside as above, you shouldn't have a Beta anyway.. Beta: Go to here, then look in the far left colomn and choose build ‘ARMA2_OA_BUILD_100296’ about 7 down, click it and ‘open’ it. This will not chnage your original game or versions they will stay as they are now, it will simply put another launch icon for your new beta as I have said above, sort of two games, well you probably know that anyway..

    can't run ARMA II.

Right, the version numbers are right, I am showing a lower case ‘oa’ not ‘OA’ in the target line, not sure if that makes a difference, try changing it and launch again. May just be lucky it’s a simple as that..

While we’re waiting, do you have ‘Six Updater’ ?, if not it might be a good idea to get it, if your not sure regards mods/addons and of course the beta’s.. Plus it will launch the game slightly differently to the usual way, may help later if any problems arise again.

    can't run ARMA II.

Let me know when you have updated and if it launches o.k. If not there may be another route to try, 'via beta'.. If it doesn’t launch get the product version again of the ‘arma2oa’, as before, to see if it went in (updated)..
  12. chrisb

    can't run ARMA II.

Right click ‘Arma2oa’ go into ‘details’, what product version do you have ? (number).. full number!

    can't run ARMA II.

I know your both trying here, but just to clear things up!! I’m getting a little confused here; Boarfruff,, In your game folder i.e. Local disk, program files, bohemia interactive, arma 2 In there you have both Arma 2 i.e. two green icons one ‘Arma2’ and the other ‘Arma2server’ Plus you have the same for OA only these are a yellow/orange colour ‘Arma2oa’ and ‘Arma2oaserver’ Yes.:)

all the addons ruined the game?

I was assuming he wouldn't do that, there again !!;) Only lead to tears using the games addon folder for mods, always keep them separate in their own folders.. Could always just find the mods pbo's and remove them, if he has put them in there..
  15. chrisb

all the addons ruined the game?

Didn’t you put your mod’s into their own folders ? If you did, just move them into one large folder if you want to keep them for later, somewhere else on your pc. That or delete them totally if you don’t want them.. Where did you put your mod’s/addons..? You don’t need to re-install arma2 or any other official part of the game, if its only community mods that are your issue..

    COWarMod Release

Yes Gunter that's right, SU will replace pbo's you have removed from the addons folder when you auto update. Its tricky with SU, its a great tool for updating, but really if your going to mix and match pbo's then you will need a seperate hdd to store the originals on, then point SU toward that for updating leaving the one's you are using (one's perhaps with bits mission) alone. Then after updating you can check if you want to bring any updates across.. Trouble with that of course is more storage costs. Still 1tb hdd's are pretty reasonable now.:).

all the addons ruined the game?

Not sure I’m with you here, are you saying that you can’t get on servers because you don’t have the addons/mods they have, or do you have mods/addons they don’t allow. What’s on your system?
  18. You should be, that will OC a treat..:) OP, anything amd from a 4850, provided the second number is no lower than a 7 really..

    Do ArmA Firefights Exsist?

@tonci, in spoiler On topic: I re-comfirm to anyone wanting to use a pbo mix that includes GL4, use it for missions you are making, it really is completely reliable in GL4 format missions and will give you by far the best results for A2, imo. Other missions/campaigns, however, may break, that means your fire-fights may never happen:butbut: I have never played any other campaigns, either BIS or community. No point, I started playing 'War Games' in the late 70's and have progressed with a certain campaign format, which luckily enough this series brought to life just a decade ago with the, utterly great, 'Editor', prior to that the only reliable way to set out our missions was on a board/pc..:)
  20. My apologies Gunter. With the latest beta’s, some of which are ai alterations, I have been looking through to see if the pbo list’s I use for ai can be streamlined a little. Will finish that by the end of the week, got to finish a mission first. Not using ace in testing at the moment, our group is 'maybe' moving away from it, so the list (once finished) will be untested for ace, but it should work o.k... I will reply to any pm messages I have here on the forum soon, with a pbo list to try out. There is interest coming via YT, so I will have to get it sorted.. Some lists are already on the forums somewhere, they however, might be unreliable now.. Sorry again Gunter.. Back to topic; I see on your other thread your asking about SU, I thought your mod's were already on SU, they were a while back if I remember rightly..

    Do ArmA Firefights Exsist?

I have replied in the spoiler. I hope that ai in A3 are better equipped for CQC, I know with a mix of pbo's it can be very good in A2, but its never going to be perfect, even A3 will not achieve that, its just not that type of game, but it can be really good, just have to test really..;)
  22. Try removing 'Ace_sys_wounds' pbo, in the addons folder, put it somewhere safe, then test again.:).

    Advanced editor modules

Your right, its a great little addon. I use it alot, its quick and easy, towns can be built in seconds to the size you want.:)

    Infantry Combat-Boring and Unrealistic?

This is a two minute to put together fire-fight test, literally two minutes.. Using the ‘Town Construction’ module, on the ‘Testmap’ terrain. Its a common configuration I use for tests, its easy, but extreme, testing cover is easy, as there is not really any cover there, other than what you put on, plus its extreme, as you can place cover out of the way, to test how the ai will react in trying to find the cover. Then of course leave a large killing field between the cover, to see how the ai cope. We have had talk of, shoot first then sort out cover later, also that ai have no self preservation.. The vid shows instances that question this opinion, ai moving up a little early, then having to re-treat back (self preservation), same with flanking, the need to withdraw. Plus at the beginning of the engagement a need for the squad leader to think speedily and go for hard cover, even though this cover is quite away off to the right. This would maybe be a case of, don’t necessarily shoot first, rather think and shoot combined, plus self preservation in finding decent cover. There is also building and rooftop use and ai shooting from inside buildings. Of course the drawback of any fire-fight is the human, we tend to always have the edge, or is that really correct! Here, I have the edge as the opposing ai are not that great (on purpose), so picking them off is easier. However, in a proper mission, limit re-spawn (two or three). Then give the ai skills based on their faction, rank, unit type, etc. (Perhaps this is a little easier for our group, we play an ongoing campaign and all factions are ‘skilled’ based upon performance throughout the campaign, we have set skill configs we swap over). Anyway, lastly, make a really good mission (unlike this test), then you will get a feeling that perhaps staying alive is not that easy and being the human doesn’t necessarily give you any edge. Test: Two opposing sides (one group each), placed opposite each other at each end of the terrain here, then a ‘Move’ waypoint to run at each others starting position, no other changes or orders given. They are all on default ‘Aware’ behaviour. The two settlements have been placed a way off to the right of each faction (right hand side of each faction), I am just a rifleman in a group (not squad leader) the rest on the terrain are ai.. Its worth noting, that only at the end of the engagement i.e. we have beaten the enemy, does my squad leader feel that we can move on and finish the waypoint.. The video was recorded using low settings (25%, msi), so its not great, but there again its only a test. Plus the sounds out a little, could have been the upload to youtube.. It’s a very basic format test, but it gives you an idea of how it could be, in a better made mission.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hlbcBFPaDQ&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=53 Just set with one waypoint to get across a settlement that has a large group of enemy. I am following the ai group, just want to see how they proceed. Which as it turns out, is not too bad, all are ai. Slightly different pbo mix. Not a great quality vid, as usual..:p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LwbqMMG_KE&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=45 ___ Its quite interesting that some players don’t realise that ai behaviour will drop in quality when their system is under stress, this can be a direct cause of the thread title. For instance, I can play on a desert type terrain with around 150ai total and get reasonably good fps ‘65+’, so the ai behaviour is really good. Now if I press record, to record the test via msi-afterburner, which costs me 30-35fps, the ai behaviour shows straight away a lower quality, decisions are not as good, moving within the environment is less coordinated. So if I play SP, I will not have above 150ai max (for my A2 system ‘pc’), usually around 100ai or below, it depends totally on terrain. Desert terrain I can increase some, heavy terrain i.e. Chernarus and terrains similar to that, I drop ai to a lot lower levels. I like smaller skirmish type missions (70-80ai max) anyway, so it suits my game-play and missions, that’s why I have the pc I have for A2, to suit the game I wanted to play. So its worth remembering, that if your fps hits 25 or lower, ai is going to be pretty basic (poor), 25-35fps and ai will be o.k. above 35fps should give you good quality ai. Its my rule of thumb this, but has sort of worked out for me when testing over some time. Get onto a PMC terrain i.e. '51km desert' or similar, put down a few settlements and the ai are top notch, behaviour wise, as the fps is usually always above 70 and can easily be above 90-100. It does make a difference choosing your terrain and ai count, most players know this, but newer players may expect that the same levels of ai can be used in all missions on all terrains, you can't. If your making missions, compensate for heavier terrains, drop ai or use mods to lower grass, veg, etc, atoc disabled inc aa disabled can help a lot. BIS missions or user made missions may require you to lower settings, to make up for game-play quality i.e. better ai etc.

    Do ArmA Firefights Exsist?

Both SLX and Zeus find cover pbo’s work fine, right upto and including the last beta. Nothing changes much in the core game concerning ai, I still have the same reaction from ai that I have always had since using the mods or parts of mods I use and that’s great reactions. Finding cover, as seen in many of my ai vid test’s (in sig), is an important part of A2 and realism, without it you just don’t really have a realistic game. It’s the same for using buildings, rooftops, balconies etc, what’s the terrain without ai using them, again plenty of examples in the test videos.. I don’t use ASR_ai. TPWC_suppress does not interfere with find cover, in-fact it helps enhance the movement toward cover, better use of stances, (need I say, lots of examples in the video's:rolleyes:).. Short example: Using Zeus find cover..
