Enemy fire from out of viewdistance
chrisb replied to Vilman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
There are probably a few, but an easy one to slip in maybe, SLX Radar (pbo), removes magical radar from tanks. This may help, haven’t used it myself, so not sure, maybe worth a look. Could probably be used as a standalone pbo if you didn’t want to use the whole mod, just put it in with some other folder. As I say not sure how or if it works, not used it, but worth looking at.:) -
I don’t see any worship here for the OP, but if you found just two of the tips useful then that’s a plus, surely. If you have tweaks and tips yourself, list them up in the guide here, anything helps, or is at least worth checking out. Regards the memory allocators, I used the W7 system one for a while, which was good for on the ground infantry, but not really for flying. I'm back now using default allocator, which I think the game decides which, as there are a few, 'ned' probably.. HDR, I use 'normal' setting, works great for me..

Quite a lot of these pc’s look to me like they will probably run A3, I hope my new one does. But BIS don’t even know what will run it really well, I don’t suppose, so what hope have the rest of us got...;)

Ah, now the top one is VBS2, must have sneeked in somewhere, have 100's of VBS shot's and loads of vids. Use to play it alot, but not so much now. Edit: forgot to say what it is, its a 'Man' 9t support truck, used by the UK.. The bottom one is not loading so can't tell what your looking at, put another link up if you can, maybe imageshack problem maybe, not sure..:)

Nice addon/mod, thanks for sharing it with us.:) -
There is a good ai pbo list in my sig, just have a look and collect the pbo’s required. Once you have them all, pm me and I will run through it with you. There are some config alterations etc that you will have to do, but best just start by collecting the mods you need, then go from there..:) This post also applies to anyone else that has asked me and I've forgotten, just collect the pbo's (from the mods) required and pm me, thanks, and sorry for forgetting..:o _______ EDIT: Take a look at this two part ai firefight test (too long for youtube 15mins limit, so second part is only a couple of mins long). It’s a similar format to the one I often use for this type of test, but this time I try and stay out of the action, just observing instead, although temptation gets to me in the end. The set-up: ‘two opposing sides running straight at each other with no cover in-between, the only cover provided is some way off to each side of each team, in the form of two small settlements. One waypoint given to each side ‘Move’ to the opposing sides start point, everything else set to ‘No Change’, that’s it. I have raised the ai skill level a touch, so they are now around the mid skill range’. Its an interesting fire-fight, they carry it off really well overall, staying at longer ranges and in cover most of the time. The enemy are launching over grenades, not quite hitting target but certainly getting closer each time, the enemy also try moving down a little to get a better angle on the grenade launching. As said, overall really good ai behaviour, some repeating actions are going on, but there again that’s to be expected, especially when the area between the two forces has no cover, whatsoever. They have to think harder to complete the task, rather than just moving forward towards each other all the time, out in the open without some viable cover, in a painfully unrealistic way. Instead they are made to think, they choose to fire-fight at longer range, using high positions, moving around from position to position where possible, also taking good cover in buildings etc. We join the video here, just after our team leader has ordered us to move to cover. I think SU has lost its way a little, not maintained as much now. There used to be a click through to contact them if you wanted to have a mod added, but its all changed now. Not sure regards PWS, that could be a better option, but I have never used it, so don't really know. I do most of my updating via Armaholic, Armed Assault, here on the forum or other communities/private groups now. I take a day out once in a while and blast my mods to update them, I update some via SU, but have to watch that they are upto date themselves. Problem is however, I keep lots of the previous versions of mods for testing, so have a huge amount collected over time..:butbut:

They can at least be assured of a certain amount of sales, that’s to all the arma communities everywhere, most will buy A3 if their machines will run it, many will, or have, bought machines in readiness for the game. Its iconic to those that play it, its down to BIS to advertise it well, to make it more mainstream, a word, some people may not like, but with the surprise success of DayZ, therefore the sudden increase in sales of A2 to players that would probably never have picked up A2, BIS must be thinking about those sales and the opportunity to make A3 more appealing to the mainstream player. I, like many, will not want it to go too far in that direction, but it would only really be the campaign that makes it mainstream, after that its down to those players that enjoyed the campaign, to join in the 'fan-dom'. I think BIS know they have to make sure it plays right, before releasing it. Its the Editor and general improvements to the game I'm waiting for, the campaign I won't be playing anyway. They can take as long as they like, A2 has many more years left in it, so will be played whilst A3 is out by many, as Arma is now, and to a certain extent OFP..

It cost around £1 million because the MOD in this country has a hole in it that’s feeds the upper ruling class, unfortunately. What should have cost a fraction of that '£1m' has been blown out of all proportion to help feed that hole. They believe that the public will consider this type of thing, cost effective, but in truth the public have all but given up on the MOD being able to manage a budget, never mind an army. The MOD waste money at an alarming rate, but never answer for it, the UK army will stand at around 80,000 in the near future, yet fewer top end staff are being removed than should be. Retired high ranking officers can expect a decent living, plus the odd job here and there on the bbc as an adviser of some sort or other. A retired army grunt can expect a visit from a bailiff because he can’t afford to pay the council tax to the local government. The army alone has lost the equivalent of approximately 5600 places year on year since 1960. Not a bad thing maybe, no, not if we still didn’t keep sticking our noses into areas that are of little concern to us, other than fuel/energy of one type or another, of course . In the UK here, the system has always been biased toward the upper ruling class, to feed that, one of the ways they have had over many years, is to bleed the system via public offices like the MOD. But hey, every country does the same, doesn't it!!

chrisb replied to mondkalb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I have been trying to get hold of your ‘Baltrum’ terrain. Did you finish it or is it resevered for a particular clan/group ? I have visited your repository a number of times, but with no result.. This new terrain looks great, but all your stuff is great, so its only to be expected. I will look forward to this very much. Thank you.:) -
Taviana Island for ArmA 2!
chrisb replied to -martin-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I can understand that, if your pocket is picked, then you retaliate if you can. I think this is the way Martin saw to get back at the ones that stole his work for commercial exploit, using it without his express perimision (picked his pocket). I liked Taviana, but it wasn’t a favourite or anything, I have made missions for it, but it lacked performance in some areas. I hope he benefits from his great work on it, it took a long time and a lot of hard work to make it, so he deserves to do whatever he likes with it and make from it what he can.. When a game moves from being a bit of a niche, into mainstream use, which is what is happening to Arma 2, via DayZ and the whole zombie thing, then a different approach has to be made by island/terrain makers in particular. These can be very sort after items, so if you think there can be a financial reward for your work, then it seems only fair that if you made it, you can ask for those financial rewards. It was after all a mod that started all this. When Dayz is released as a stand alone (maybe already is, not sure), it will slow down the onset of this sort of thing, but I feel the series has turned a corner, maybe for many people, the wrong corner, but thats just the way it goes sometimes.. -

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Well I’m not sure if this is the right thread to ask in, but seeing no other threads that are regards cpu/gpu performance, I have posted it here. To those who run a 2gb or 3gb card, what sort of gpu memory usage are you getting, the reason I ask is that my mem usage has increased over the last few beta’s, well in-fact steadily increasing for the last dozen or more. Now I usually run my card on in-game settings of ‘Vid Mem = Very High’, mainly because it gave me better fps (around 5-10fps higher) and set to ‘default’ I would only get the same mem usage of around 800-950 anyway, so no real need to shift. Now I noticed it getting higher, so thought, if its moving I will try it on ‘Default’, I did, and on some islands it doubled the gpu mem usage, i.e. 1800 ap as here. So I’m interested what 2 or 3gb card users are getting, I monitor mine with msi-afterburner so can get a screenshot, just wondering if anyone can let me in on their gpu mem usage ? Also 1gb card users, are you seeing any increase too ? Should have said: I am running a HD5850 2gb Toxic (Sapphire/Radeon AMD).. :) -

I would not be using that 650, it won't be great, imo.. The Ti would be a little better if you can afford that, or a 57** or later series amd, or 67** or later series amd.. -
Infantry Combat-Boring and Unrealistic?
chrisb replied to THEBLITZ6794's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Actual ai behavioural enhancement’s, taking away effects etc, and with the ongoing improvements via the recent set of beta’s, my ai pbo list is now down to 11 pbo’s, which is what I had running in the vid above. It seems that some of the older ai mods are running better with the newer beta’s, which is great, less draw on the cpu. However our group is moving away from ACE so not using that now, better game play, I think anyway. Of course you have to add a few more game enhancements to compensate, but its runs well and looks great. Thanks regards the comments, makes vids a little less boring..:) _____ To anyone wanting to try the mix: Edit: use pbo list in my sig: changed the list slightly due to ongoing beta's.. To anyone wanting to use this mix list: Do not run any other ai mods/pbo’s if you want a similar or same outcome to my vids. And don't forget, to those using this mix, they work for me, but may not necessarily work for you! -
I don’t have any experience with Win8, but I can confirm that on mine, A2 in Win7 it runs great. However I have the 64 and 32bit but run it in the 32bit, seems to run better for some reason, not sure why.. I put Win7 in my new system (waiting for A3), wasn't going to risk Win8 seeing that I had such good performance on 7. Though it depends on system, it can run great on one and terrible on another, even if both are running the same OS..

chrisb replied to Selloh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have the 5850 toxic 2gb, great cards. I stopped at 12.1 as it runs really fast and smooth. I think it depends on your setup a lot, but once 12.1 showed itself to run great on my system, I thought thats it, stop there and risk no further! .;). -
The problem he had turned out to be pretty easy to correct, just a tick in a box (run as administrator), but sometimes you just can’t see the wood for the tree’s. BoarFruff, has SU now so can have a good look through that, sorts mods and servers plus launches the game if you want it too, so all is good now. @BoarFruff: Glad to see your playing the game now..:)

I use 'cpuCount=4' for my quad core, 'exThreads' I don't use, but '7' I think is what is recommended, could be wrong on that though. But to be honest I think the game auto detects stuff like this now, so not sure if its really needed now or not..:)
