So the driver AI is actully better this time?
chrisb replied to ^Th0mas^'s topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Now if you were playing a Brit in that fire-fight the car would be American… O.k., o.k. its just an observation..:o;). -
It still amazes me that people are still arguing over this. Player one would like the feature..:D Player two doesn’t want the feature.. As said before, put in something equivalent to an On/Off switch. And lets be honest, certain contributors are getting less coherent with each post that passes…:803:. Its funny really, many don’t want to see the effects of suppression in-game, but I can see the effects of anger/rage on screen here, just by reading some of the posts.. Ah you shout, still doesn’t have a real screen effect, your right it doesn't, it actually has a physical effect, I can't read whilst falling around laughing..:icon_lol:.

PUSH & KILL: Close combat module
chrisb replied to Feint's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This works for me in Arma 2 as well, but until @Feint confirms that it is o.k for use in Arma 2, try it at your own risk.. Seems fine though..:) -
Its already set to my preference, but its all we need to satisfy everyone, well should be, simple device..:)

Make a folder called ‘@sum_veg’ then inside that make another folder called 'addons', put all the pbo, bikey & bisign's into the addons folder. Anything else like ‘readme’ etc can just go into the title folder. Now put your new 'title' folder '@sum_veg' into your arma 2 game folder/directory, look in my sig under pbo’s to get an idea of where it is if you don’t know. Enable your new folder in game (expansions) or via any other option you use.

@Th0mas GL4, SLX, Zeus, TPWC suppress & LOS, ST Movement/collision, SMK lite, these are the main ai behaviour/tactic mods I use. Not full mods but a selection of pbo's from each, that best suit the game play I want.. No ASR ai. :) -

Yes, all modded.. -
Work your way through those and you have your answer, the last mentions the 'Editor', the most important thing of all.:)

Marks out of 10 for ai driving in A2 ‘7-8’ (on road). Same for A3 ‘7-8’ (again on road). What would help: Better map design for roads and tracks, or should I say placing of objects adjacent to roads and tracks. New speed between limited and normal would be nice. I used the SLX 'ai_steering' pbo in A2, that helped, so maybe they have come on a little, as it is un-modded in A3 (at present).. :) -
Just caught this on the beeb, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22001123 Thoughts ? :)

I run msi-afterburner, it has a frame rate limiter 1-200, just set it and go. If its set to zero it has no limit. So you can completely max out all your favourite settings in Arma3, that includes vd to 12,000 and still get +125 fps, could always limit that down . Oh you will need to get 'dbo_afghanistan' for A3, to do that though. Advantage of that is, you can be flying, have the 12,000 vd and still be seeing mountains for some time. Great place to practice those aircraft manoeuvres, tactics and attack..;). This terrain was good for air battles in A2, now in A3, well.. Seriously though, fly around there in the mountains, take along a Cessna, at 12,000 vd, with the mountains shrouded in clouds.. nice…

Suppression in the past has been provided by a number of methods; SLX, GL4, TPW_AI_Sup. With Arma3 I can see perhaps TPW coming across, but the rest won’t ever make it across, I don’t think. To have this as part of the standard in-game ai is very important to add realism to the game-play. At present the ai in arma3 are pretty bad, very shooter'ish, which belittles the series. BIS will have to start spending some serious time on improving ai to get them anywhere near realistic. Ok they flank, but its a near flank, no real attempt to flank wide, maybe it was considered too long of a process, make players bored:rolleyes:. Well some players may get bored, but the series was never about speed, it was always about tactics and planning, thats the way it should be played. The ai sort of go to cover, but its got to be pretty nearby, its a fairly lame cover method, mods made it better for A2, but it still could be impoved a lot. I returned to play a short scenario mission I made on the new 'Katherine' map for A2, just me and the ai. It was a breath of fresh air getting back to decent ai behaviour (modded). The way I have A2 ai setup at the moment wipes the floor with A3, thanks to many talented mod makers (not myself, I just test and pick the bits that suit my game-play best). Hadara a walled village/town in Katherine, great for CQC, building to building alleyway to alleyway, really fantastic, I wrote a little about the scenario over in the A2 forum in the Kathrine thread. It was a joy to be back with great ai. When I watch arma3 ai, which falls someway short of the mark, its disappointing, shows just how little effort has been put into that part of the game. Its been tweaked, yes, but it still feels cosmetic, just for show, we need better ai, the game deserves it.. Voted this up...

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I've never liked PP really, I know many do and its each to their own, but for me PP off and FXAA to ultra with 2xAA and its sharp and crisp, obviously with the rest of the settings as said in my post a few pages back. VTE maps are great, lots of foilage with very little hit to performance, our group made some really nice up river missions at night, fantastic.. -
I’m running it on my older A2 pc with a HD5850 2gb Toxic, runs great with lots of ultra settings, very smooth. Im also running the dev version. :)

Its not the blur as in when moving quickly around, thats not a problem, I don't have that. Its the fact it makes everything go 'soft focus' which I don't like, I'm a sharp clean pic fanatic :p can't help it..;) _______ Just a footnote: I would say the AMD FX8350 would be a very good gaming pc, I looked at it myself before going intel (sig/rigs), I only went that way for a complete change, had AMD a while now... -
So lets assume that in the near future BI decide that SWS is the way to go complete with the licences/agreements put in place by valve/steam etc. Would all the mod makers here in the thread and others walk away from the series or just Arma 3 ? Business wise I think that’s what BIS will have to do, eventually, go the whole steam route. I believe they know this already, but want to believe themselves they can structure some type of compromise, which probably won’t happen. They know that this community built up around the official BIS community/forums has helped them. But they are a business and will have to move forward, all businesses do. Mod/addon makers on the whole don’t make money from their work, unless they strike lucky perhaps, its not needed to make money from it, its a hobby. BIS on the other hand, have to make money, it’s a business..

With the present dev build.. I have the following settings on Ultra: PPAA = FXAA Ultra AF = Ultra Dynamic Lights = Ultra Texture qual = Ultra Objects qual = Ultra Cloud qual = Ultra Shadow qual = Ultra Particles qual = Very high (highest it goes on mine) Others are: Terrain qual = Standard (fps can be lost and gained here, alot) HDR qual = Standard Atoc = All trees AA = 2x Rendering Res = 1920x1080 The ones I have disabled: PIP = disabled (waste of time, just need ‘blakes mirrors’ to be ported over, far better) PP = disabled (I don't like fuzzy, keep it sharp) V-sync = disabled (I never have v-sync) Now view distance (visibility), is variable, flying I have it on 5000 max, its enough for Stratis. On the ground, if in a mission, then 1200-1500, this will allow upto 250-300 ai max, present on the map with the settings above, provided I don’t meet them all at once. I can have more vd if I’m just driving/walking around on my own. Visibility object, I keep to default wherever it goes to when setting overall visibility. Visibility shadow I have at 101. This is on my A2 pc, which is an Athlon II x4 640 quad. I have had very few problems with performance/fps in A2, its been a very good gaming pc, just make missions to suit your pc. I never really have above 200 ai at any time anyway, skirmish type battles are what I tend to play (its a gaming pc, nothing on it, other than the games and whats needed to run them, thats it).. Its specific to every pc i.e. no one can tell you how yours is going to perform, it would depend on so many factors. If however you buy a new pc then its easier to say, providing you keep it as a gaming pc, then you shouldn't have too many problems if buying 'mid-high end' pc's, imo.. -
Must say it’s a little flippant of me and others to say its easy, when clearly for you its not. Best I can say to begin with is go onto the airbase in the editor choose a heli (empty) then a unit to fly it (you), put the ‘auto hover’ on then start it up and get upto a good height. Once at a good height say 300, take the auto hover off and dip the nose slightly, go so far put the auto hover on again. Repeating this process first, then adding in turns etc at least will keep you up there whilst your learning. Auto hover is a great tool when your learning.. Just practice, we all crashed them to begin with in the series, whether we choose to admit it or conveniently forget it ever happened, just keep going around the perimeter of the island first.. Better still perhaps, get ’DBo Afghanistan’ it’s an arid landscape that is good to practice landing etc. Its for A3 on Armaholic under addons, don't have to port it over from A2..

Have to agree, they are very easy to fly, as are all the aircraft A2/3..
