Yes that would be using YT music licence, but I still think that would exclude recording artists. But I thought ads were not to be used (monetary gain) with BIS vids or has that changed ?
-
To include music from a recording artist would mean having a broadcasting licence of some type and paying royalties, in the UK anyway. Even if the music was copied from a broadcaster i.e. radio or tv, its illegal to copy and re-broadcast it in the u.k. Playing background music made for that type of use i.e. 'lift music' then you still have to have a licence, different type, to play music in public (business), but with no royalties as the music has been made purposely for that reason. So no, is the quick answer, its not o.k. and they are getting really uptight about it, so be careful..

All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3
chrisb replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I don’t like PWS or SU as the amount of mod/addons on them are limited, so I have to manually update anyway, which takes ages. But for this, moving so fast and it auto updating just this mod, its perfect for now. I just point it towards a external hdd where I have folders with whichever pbo’s from whatever mod/addon I want to tryout and its all there, no messing just quick and easy. Can get on then and keep testing bits out that I want to see in a3. Once the mod has settled a little, probably not until full game release, as there is so much that’s possible with it, then I would go back to what I usually do, but for now PWS does a great job for this mod.. -
'Operation Flashpoint Elite' for the original xbox had a great mission editor and all round game-play. The graphics were behind the times a little when it came out and of course there were lots of people ready to pan it. However, it was and still is a great game, the first of its type on the xbox, open world, editor etc. A fine piece of work by BIS to bring ofp (or at least some of it) to console players. I bought an xbox specifically for it, as I did for the other console mess (not BIS) which will remain nameless. If BIS wanted to put the time in I’m sure they would find a way to do it. But to be honest its great to have it as a pc only, that’s where its full potential lies and of course we want players buying pc’s for gaming instead of consoles. That’s just so pc gaming doesn’t die..

what is your opinion about the new enhanched fog.
chrisb replied to nielspoep's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I like the new fog, it adds great atmosphere. I’m glad their dealing with these really important issues, like fog, whilst leaving the ai, movement, etc alone, obviously these things are less important.. -
Any chance for default melee weapons?
chrisb replied to killzone_kid's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Lets see some melee weapons, why not. With the right mods they would be very difficult to use though (hearing), but would add to stealthy missions.;). -
I was getting more and more excited reading down your post, until I got to your last line……….:(.

@bad benson; I wish I had your optimism. I think we’re going to need modded ai for a3 the same as we did for arma/2. But that’s o.k. provided it works in a3, the mods I am testing out at the moment do more or less everything they did in arma 2, well so far they do, which to me is promising. If I can just have that same amount of ai intelligence I had in arma 2 I will be happy enough, seeing that we are not going to have BIS go much further with ai in the near future. Reaction to grenade sound and smoke grenade, is a problem, but that could be an alpha thing, certainly gunfire will draw their attention very quickly, even from a distance. Finding cover is no problem, infact its better in a3 than a2, the thing I am finding is that they tend to be a little more aggressive, which some find good, but I think it leads to dumber ai. Better to take the time and plan a tactic rather than just keep moving forward, however this can be tweaked via configs a little. Building use is getting there, with rooftops, balconies being used in much the same way as I had in a2, so I'm o.k. with that for now. We all want better, but its not going to happen if we're honest.. AIA has been good for ai so far, I know its not intentional, but its welcome nevertheless, just hope it keeps going in the right direction..

New AMD 13.4 and 13.5 (beta) drivers.
chrisb replied to imrevned's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
The misinformation maestro aren’t you, well 600hrs enduring bad performance sort of sums you up…. It went from the mid 30’s fps (my post) to 30 (your post) then to below 30 (your post again). How much and how many times do you have to bend the facts until it fits your argument. Or is it the case that it has to fit your argument, in the time it takes you to get back in your pram having picked your rattle up... -
I would argue with @2nd ranger, and say yes, in a game like arma its needed, but it isn’t there yet. I am really hoping that CQC becomes better in the series from here on, doubtful but I’m hoping..

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Good set..yes. Will it run A3 at max on all settings, well I would read through this and other threads. I'm not saying it won't, but some with the same systems are experiencing problems, 8 cores can be an issue it seems, for arma anyway.. It looks fine, but no harm in reading what others have found or had to do to make it happen..:) -
New AMD 13.4 and 13.5 (beta) drivers.
chrisb replied to imrevned's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I was talking to and watching one of our group members running a couple of little scenarios he had put together for Stratis. I mentioned to him that he had nice smooth game-play, moving the mouse around quickly and slowly, zooming in and out, moving around the environment in town, woodland, etc smoothly and easily. Everything was a nice gaming experience. I get the same, I said to him, it really makes a difference to game-play when you can actually watch the game and not be looking for game related performance issues, now I know this is not the case for everyone, but for our group it seems to be the case. I went on to say to him how having higher fps made the difference, as to how the game looked and performed. Now to my surprise he popped on the counter and his fps was in the mid 30’s, he played on with the counter onscreen, more or less all over the map, the fps was the same, dropping perhaps -3/4fps in heavier areas. The whole game-play was quite a bit lower than my fps, but it still ran absolutely smooth, with quite a number of ai (80ish, not met all at once of course), it was as if I was watching a 60fps flat rate game-play. My point here being, that you forget sometimes (me included), that this series can run really well at lower fps, I think BIS have worked on that, understanding perhaps that not everyone will get high rates. It can and will look great and perform well, nice and smooth, at lower rates, so fps is certainly not the supreme thing to aim for. It is system specific, some systems will look and perform as if they were on higher rates than they actually are, maintaining a steady game-play throughout. Now I run 12.1 driver amd and stopped there, only because that was where, my best performance up to that date, was (my pc1 'sig'; HD5850 2gb). I didn’t want to upset that, it more than covered the game type I wanted to play and it did it very well. It works both ways with drivers, not all are good, I would always wait to see the reviews from gamers regards new drivers, never take it as certain that your game will perform better than the previous driver, so be careful when changing as trying to re-trace footsteps doesn’t always workout well, some systems do not take kindly to restoring backwards, where drivers are the case. Just beware, its good to have up to date drivers, but there again, if it produces any problems, it can be hard to get back the good performance you might have had before updating, ‘if it isn't broke, don’t fix it’ does make sense.;).. P.S. I’m not condoning that players should not update card drivers… urmm, well actually I am, if your happy with your performance as it is. Don’t change up just to see if you can gain that extra 1 or 2 fps which, if we’re honest, won’t make that much of a difference if your game is already good. -
All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3
chrisb replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
For now I would strongly recommend using PWS, its not what I usually do, but this mod is moving pretty fast and PWS will update and keep the mod sorted, you can then enjoy getting on and playing/testing finding glitches etc. ___________ @SQB-SMA I am still testing the ai, new test results are in my sig (arma3 vids/ai testing). Its coming along nicely, just repeating tests I had done in A2 whilst mixing and matching 'ai' pbo’s, will list them when I'm done testing..:) -
Spend some time in the 'Editor', that should win you over completely..:) Oh and welcome.. I know you'll buy it..;)

chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not sure regards the cpu etc, but the HD7570 will struggle with arma 2 or 3 or dayz, imo. Maybe if someone comes back with a view on the pc itself and say it seems o.k. then think about upgrading the card to a 7850 or similar..:) -
Few simple tests for ai reactions that were a little lacking, but now hopefully not so.. Best watched in full screen at 1080p. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnIaAnqpdT8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmsfFnMluCQ&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-EzIR-0xT9_K9dbSAGrSLRA&index=18 The above I'm pleased with..:) Smoke grenade reaction isn't there yet...:( Edit: So to my delight it looks as though the AIA mod has inadvertently allowed some ai mods from a2 to work in a3. This is not fully yet, by the looks of things testing, but I’m really hopeful it will get even better (can’t really play with the a3 standard ai, far too backward feeling). I have done quite a few various tests for ai, building use in particular, these tests look very promising, also a couple of new things I have noticed which will add more to the mix than previous. Anyway it looks as though there may be a little light at the tunnels end for ai. Its keeping it stable at present, or indeed keeping it at all, as it may disappear with more work carried out with AIA, still hope it stays and is usable in A3..:).

Good luck with this project..:) couple of odd ones: http://imageshack.us/a/img825/5339/arma320130421025708215.png http://imageshack.us/a/img7/7390/arma320130421025859907.png

I tried a simple fog test to see how the ai are coping, seems that the fog makes a real difference to the range at which they spot you. No news there then, but maybe there is, seems it makes them no more cautious, which is odd. So, it effects their vision, but once they do spot you, their need to run forward still seems to be there, instead of a careful approach. Couple of foggy pics.. http://imageshack.us/a/img837/7761/arma320130420191557212.png http://imageshack.us/a/img534/3678/arma320130420191612255.png

All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3
chrisb replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This day may go down for me in A3 history, today was the first day I saw the very early signs of an ai mix I used in a2 begin to work in arma 3. Must be down to kju’s work, obviously not on purpose, but a side effect, but its there and the seeds could be planted. Very exciting for me this, like going back many years to the start of my obsession with ai behaviour, tactics and the want for them to use everything in-game which included buildings, rooftops, balconies, windows, doorways etc. To do all those things really well, well as good as they possibly could.. Thanks kju, whatever it was, I hope it doesn’t disappear... The video below is rough done in a few mins and really not how it should be, but this is something I have wanted to see happen since the A3A came out.. Now they are by no means great at the moment, partly because I have to play the opposing side for this to work, however here I am also playing a USMC to look around, which confuses the ai using when using this mix. Usually I would look around whilst testing as a civilian, but unfortunately they are not working properly as yet. So the ai are getting pretty confused, but that’s nothing, it is the start of, for me anyway, ai I can live with, i.e. smart ai. The seeds may just have been planted, lots of testing will see if it works well…. If you don't understand what I mean, look at some of my ai test vids for arma2 linked from my sig. I want ai that think and plan, not just have god like shooting abilities, thats a copout Edit: Take cover test, a copy of one done in arma 2.. -
What video memory setting shall I select?
chrisb replied to pooroldspike's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I would have said V/High at one point in the past. But with the game improvements, owing to the beta’s over the last few months or so, I would say ‘Default’.:). -
Why is Arma2 so good ? - Let the community know :)

Can you play Arma 2, after playing Arma 3 for a while?
chrisb replied to NeuroFunker's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I believe a lot of players think A2 was bad because they didn’t have it set up right. If you have a lousy experience playing anything, you will not enjoy going back. Me, on the other hand, have to go back to get a decent game, having had heavily modded exceptional ai in A2, I couldn’t realistically play A3 and enjoy it, with the woeful OFPElite (xbox) style ai it seems to have at present, its stepped back a whole 7yrs where ai is concerned. For a decent intelligent game its A2, for tourism to look at the pretties its A3, but that counts for little, when the game is about war… O.k. the movement system might be better and the looks, apart from that its still second rate, when compared against A2 game-play.. And I like A3 for all the wrong reasons, it looks nice, underwater swimming ‘lovely’, the lighting ‘terrific’, the clouds, well, ‘fluffy’, the movement ‘not bad’ etc.. Then you stop and think, to play a game I have to put the ai on here, then all that niceness goes right out the window, fire up Arma 2 then.. -
This type of misinformation plagues this series. _________
-
Do they have excessive skills.. No.. But yes, they do seem to have god like aiming skills. I think, that BIS thinks, by giving them that, it will make up for the lack of any intelligence, which is clearly not present..;).
