Vietnam: The Experience
chrisb replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Can we have more buildings that are enterable, also with balconies and access to rooftops. The ai I use like to use these things to the fullest, so would be nice to see some more included in the vte terrains.:) -
It sort of goes along with the bad ai theme in Arma 3. When shot at they run into the open to see where the shots are fired from, instead of going into cover or at least somewhere not out in the open. Tracking you along the hillside from the other side is not really that surprising, although a good test. Its what you would imagine they would do for inferior ai, stream them knowledge most of the time, same with the great shooting abilities, although that can be altered. Suppressing is great, has been done well in the series for quite a while, but suppress somewhere you know someone is hiding, when they start suppressing you, when you know they shouldn’t know your there, it starts to look bad. Its what I’m really worried about most of all for A3, with below par ai the game just won’t stack up the same as modded A2.:(.

[Request] Walkable Interior of Vehicles
chrisb replied to Hammerballz's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
VBS is a training tool, its designed to be used in-depth on most all aspects of military training, but in detailed segments, i.e. spend hours on how to correctly load onto ‘whatever it is’. That’s the way it should be as a learning tool, I like realism, but lets not have two hours spent loading bits and pieces correctly, or how to move in convoy with correct spacing etc. Its not designed to be a game, most of what VBS has, we don’t need the in-depth detail. It would be nice to have some things, but I would not compare the two, training tool and game. I have played VBS2 as a game and its not rewarding in that respect, for me anyway. The ai is shockingly bad, but the in-depth detail, as in military hardware and the rest, is fantastic. But I have an imagination and can except that something has happened without necessarily seeing every detail of how it did happen. In a game you want to get on and play, yes detailed missions, with as much realism as you want (for a game), but you still want to get on and play missions that are also entertaining.. If everything from VBS was put in the arma series, there are only a few that would bother with more than 20% or so of what’s on offer or how it should be used correctly. -
How many modders will only stay with arma 2? And not start modding for arma 3?
chrisb replied to SAMstudios-3Dartist's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I hope that many will, over time, change their minds and eventually come over. Using Steam has not been anywhere near as bad as painted at first, so maybe those that had problems in the past with Steam can have another look at it, seems pretty good to me, past problems may be just that 'past'. I only came on Steam for A3, like many others, at first I thought the mod handling is going to be a problem, but really its exactly the same as A2, which is really easy anyway. There will be many new mod/addon makers coming in over the next few year's, I would think, so hopefully its still going to be a modders paradise.;). -
tpw_houselights - automatic house lighting for Arma2 and Arma3
chrisb replied to tpw's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
TPW, so its worth changing this, or waiting ? If its just going to be a config change then thats pretty straight forward, would there be anything in the pbo you have to change ? Sorry for the questions but just wondered.:) -
what do you think about the game so far?
chrisb replied to doogerie's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Runs really well (even on my A2 pc). I like A3, it will become a classic, but only if ai can be made better, a lot better. For looks & tourism A3. For combat A2 leads be a long way. At the moment.. Hopefully will change.. The series has always run well for me, so no issues with performance. Just ai.. -
Any solid info about Underground structures yet?
chrisb replied to meshcarver's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Easier to make underground complexes over-ground, if you understand. A little kid-ology, I have a 8km tunnel with several tunnels off, lead into labs, hangers, offices, warehouses etc (made by a group member). Starts from a warehouse (through doors into tunnel) then at a downward angle for a while (kid-ology) then levels out into an ‘underground’ base, well over-ground, but designed as underground.. Can do this easily in the editor using just one map or linked two. With the vast amount of buildings available from the series, many crossover well, different types interlinked (copy and paste is a great tool), lighting etc. Rocky sided mining type tunnels are easy, as are complex manufactured type tunnels. AI have no problem with using buildings etc over-ground, well my ai don't, so they will appear to be using a base underground.;). As for this in A3, yes later, but always probably using the kid-ology method, 'underground built over ground', if you want ai to use them to any degree.. -
Can I suggest, buy Arrowhead, or better, combined ops or even better still the gold edition. There are advanced in-game settings and you really get to grips with the whole arma 2 experience.:) Also and a bonus, it will perform better..

Enhanced movement and more
chrisb replied to bad benson's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I’m a little surprised with smk working indoors now, so as to speak, that the smk climbing wasn’t in the standard game, but yours here looks great. The knife work is, well, wow! and so is the sound. Good luck and will be following eagerly your progress..:D -
VTS Simple gesture commo rose
chrisb replied to l etranger's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Nice, thanks for sharing it..:) -
Not played BF3, but what I have seen on YT crawling wise is not great. Turning may be o.k. but there is a video on YT showing someone crawling along with a knife in their hand and the right arm is stretched out, not moving at all, while the unit moves along forward at a pretty rapid speed, doesn’t look good.:p.

There are a number of naval ships available in mod form for A2, some are quite functional. With the sea taking a big role in the new game, I think we may, over the next couple of years, see some ships, hopefully BIS might make a couple as standard. Also I forgot an assortment of WW1 & WW2 ships/subs, I have on an HDD somewhere all A2 I think, couple may be earlier.. Edit: few I found in my pics, be nice to get some more of the flying kind as well, hopefully.. http://imageshack.us/a/img685/1607/arma2oa2012051502264272.png http://imageshack.us/a/img833/7389/arma2oa2012042823260667.png http://imageshack.us/a/img546/4140/arma2oa2012040310492717.png http://imageshack.us/a/img802/128/arma2oa2012042823464214.png

As I put in the edit, its by 'gnat', there are a few various types of great ships in the mod. Now I know gnat has said on here that he doesn't mind his mods coming over from A2 to A3, if they work, so thats why I put it on for you, its an A2 mod. Look on 'armaholic' for the mod, names in the edit above..:) Edit: your question, yes there will be some boats, but very doubtful regards ships, certainly nothing like that, probably mods for that..

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/7269/arma320130505004459164.png:) Thanks to 'Gnat' for that, he made the mod 'gnat_sigisolda'..

I would second that, great terrains the IF ones..
-
I think they allow upto around 30km speed to land a heli, I know its o.k. around 20km or so, depends on the ground and pilot..;)

Arma 3 is not poor, its in training.;).

Not liking the new Fatigue system - Jogging should not be penalised
chrisb replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
There is a need for fatigue in the game. Its been modded a few times in the past, SLX, Ace etc, so I’m not really bothered if its down to that again, but should they put it in the game as standard, to the same effect as some of the mods mentioned, I wouldn’t moan, they were really well done.. Simple switch 'on/off' would be o.k. for those that do and don't..;) -
What baffles me is this series is not that old (12yrs or so), many players would have played ofp, ofpe, arma/2, these are all titles, that for me and many other players, are fairly recent, having been console/pc gaming since the 70’s. The attitude, that because you may not have been on the forum here for long, that you can’t have played the series before, is a pretty odd attitude. Most all war gamers would have picked this series up at some point over the past decade, many would have stayed with it, probably hundreds of thousands of players, if not more. There's only around two to three thousand players active on here, which is a very small percentage of the overall player base for the series.. New players are welcome, game wouldn't survive if it wasn’t for new players and a turnover of new players..:) Those that are completely new to the series have discovered a diamond amongst rocks..

tpw_houselights - automatic house lighting for Arma2 and Arma3
chrisb replied to tpw's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
A great mod/addon for arma 2, will be for arma 3, plenty of time yet..:) -
Podagorsk, great island, very good for woods/forests. I played often in the forests and woods on there, even found some teddy bears having a picnic once.;). Of course that might have been the tablets..
-
Annoying yes, but it will get sorted, patience is a virtue..:D
-
Apart from the bad language used (only a little I know:p), I agree with this post, hits the nail on the head really.;)
-
There is a sticky thread right at the top of the page this post is on. Put your pc specs in there, explain the problem and someone might be able to help.:). This thread: ‘Arma2/OA (low) performance issues’
-
Sorry, it was a bit vague wasn’t it. I mean bring your game upto the latest Beta patch rather than just the most recent official game patch. There are drawbacks of course using the beta, it is work in progress i.e. upto the next game patch release, so may be unstable now and then.. I always run the latest beta’s when playing, but its not to everyone’s taste. Beta here. (it will alter your in-game menu as well). Be sure to read up before using the beta, just to make sure you want to use it, search on the forum here, there's lots about it.:)
