7850 recommended, I have a 6870. ARMA III on actual RELEASE?
chrisb replied to UKFX's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
The idea is just a 'comparison' the 5850 and the 6870 aren’t that different other than your 6870 should handle AA a lot better. I showed you performance details based on my 5850 2gb which is oc’ed slightly, this in turn was nearer to your card, however, the 2gb makes a difference from a 1gb. Regards optimization, to use your 4ghz to its full, don't hold your breath, if that did happen, it would be a first in the series..;) -
Vietnam: The Experience

These are looking good, do you have an animated version (in-game) yet.. -
If you 'alt-tab' out the game it doesn't pause (keeps running), whereas normally it would auto pause..

Brilliant stuff, looks to be coming along really well. Good luck with progress and congrats on it so far.:).

I have a few performance related vids, here is one showing settings, older pictures in the form of a slideshow type YT vid. These were with a previous dev build, things are improving all the time so settings have changed slightly, details in the vid (only view distance & AA).. Performance, fps/cpu/gpu with ai placed out two WP per group. AI set away from the player, details in the video. Provided I met no more than 50-70ai at once, I wouldn't usually meet more than 20-30ai at once in the type of missions I play, maybe upto 50, I could put out around 250-300 on the map at start and maintain sensible ai behaviour. Maximum ai is usually around 150-200 out at mission start, so even less of a problem. Some screenshots of various locations, with fps counter: Town Airfield Lighthouse NW Hope this helps, pc details in sig (pc1 A2 pc), or in the first video..:) Screenshots would be nice to see regards your pc performance, could help others. Recording performance with video costs me around -30fps, so really not helpful, better with screenshots, more reliable results.. I use msi-afterburner for screenshots and recording. -

Not had any problems with it at all, running 2.3.1 msi version. Stopped at cat 12.1 for my card, really performs well, didn’t want to risk changing that. -

I use msi-afterburner, it runs in the background all the time, very helpful for quick screenshots or video. Also it will monitor your fps, temp, gpu usage and with nvidia cards I think you can do the cpu as well. It doesn’t do that for my ati card, I have to use ‘playclaw’ for that. But having msi running in the background gives virtually no hit value, well in my experience with it, so won’t slow your game down. Plus you can set fps limit etc and other things, very useful tool.. -
WIP Sahrani Arma2 Port / Arma 1 Buildings Project
chrisb replied to cifordayzserver's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Although I use Sahrani quite often in A2 and the ai are really good with most things, it would be nice for it to be 100%. The fact you are going to work on the buildings is great, the more enterable the better. Good luck with your project and I look forward to following your progress.:). -

Well its the few things you mention and much, much more, you won't be disappointed. When you buy it (I know you will;)), try out the Editor, in there everything concerning war/conflicts is possible to recreate almost completely accurately, better than any other game in the genre, well really its in a genre of its own, there is no other like it... You know the price, you have the pc, so why have you not bought it already...:p:) A note would be, many other players have had problems with performance, so its not guaranteed. But if your confident you can run it, then great.. -

Can we safely use AI mods with SP Missions?

Can we safely use AI mods with SP Missions?
chrisb replied to doveman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
What I can’t understand is, its an Open World game, so why not design yourself open world missions (anything can happen). The aim is to be more or less completely unaware of what’s going to happen, even though you built the mission, i.e you have an objective/s and you have an enemy, hopefully you complete your objective, leave the enemy to devise tactics themselves, design it in. A little thought into mission design, reading the ‘readme’ of ai mods used, experimenting and testing, doesn’t take long to learn the basics. The upshot of that time spent, will be the fact you discover the game as intended, not many on here play that way, preferring to micro manage each mission. I used to do that (micro manage) on a board/pc with ASL, long time ago, been war-gaming for decades, its fine, if thats what you want. But the whole reason of this series is to move away from that type of game-play. With the mods that are available, its even more possible than first hoped for by BIS. In-fact, infinitely possible, a completely different game to that played by many players. Try it, you won’t look back.. Anyway: SLX has ‘no auto engage’ so could cause a problem, as ai may not do what you micro managed them to i.e. divert around large numbers of enemy, you being that enemy mostly. GL4 will almost certainly not do what you want, if the mission wasn't made using gl4. It’s a different mission type and game-play, make missions using gl4 format instead, far better.;) Zeus is reasonably safe to use for most missions. TPW suppress won’t alter much other than maybe timing, if your micromanagement goes that far.:j: Fight an enemy you haven’t given overly pre-orders/routines to. To do so in real life, would be like crossing the enemy line and briefing their troops as to what you would like them to do. When the possibility is there, to not have to do that, in the game, to open up the mission to 'anythings possible', why would you not use that possibility to its fullest.. The moral, should there be one here, don’t micro manage, use the game as intended, open world, missions to suit.. Just my opinion doveman..:) -
Just under 4p per day, well in UK that is, over 10yrs.. For that cost, $200, good value I’d say.. But I know its easy to get mad at it, just do what I do, test in A3 and play proper in A2, well until things settle down.;).

I have four fps check area’s, each of these are with one unit placed in the editor: This is a variety of dev builds, plus the standard Alpha, results: (same time of day etc) Airfield Inland Town Lighthouse (NW) I have also tested with different amounts of ai on the map with a couple of WP’s each, away from the player unit. These are pretty good as well, link here. I check each of these places on each dev build and they all have increased, so its all going in the right direction. Not for everyone I know, but its per system it seems and not system type.. This is all on my A2 pc (sig)..;)

Its sad to read these words. I’ve not been a member of this community for that long although an avid player of the series for quite a while. I have however, read the forum here many times before joining and it is obviously clear to see you are an integral part of the whole makeup of this community, so to say your not welcome perhaps or feel as though your no longer welcome here, seems sad and is certainly not true. Your commitment and work for the community over the past years has been of great benefit to the community and many members recognise that. Many players have been given a whole new game on each release of certain mod/addons made by members of this community, of which you've been apart, so the thanks that should be given to you for that, which I give you from me here as a player, thank you, has been well earned. Persuasion to stay has to be noted, therefore from someone that doesn't really know you, but knows of your work and can see your commitment, please reconsider and stay apart of the community here. The community would be a poorer place without your talents and commitment..:( -
OVER POWERED AI ! Please fix this for final game ruins coop

BIS: Just allow the ai to be good, its available and I've been using it for some years, why can't standard ai change and compete with modded ? There is a real danger that A3 will not ever have this type of ai.. That's a real problem, for many players who use this type of ai.. They should be able to do this and much more: All ai apart from the picture taker (me), just standard ai testing.. I have probably hundreds of these types of pictures, plus bags of videos, but its all modded ai, not standard ai... 'why' ? http://imageshack.us/a/img197/5572/arma2oa2012090906204296.png http://imageshack.us/a/img189/3435/arma2oa2012090803043525.png http://imageshack.us/a/img5/9747/arma2oa2012090803021336.png http://imageshack.us/a/img838/5650/arma2oa2012090921052358.png http://imageshack.us/a/img220/7482/arma2oa2012070403503412.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img109/9529/arma2oa2012070404142303.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img215/1770/arma2oa2012062212560083.png http://imageshack.us/a/img35/6626/arma2oa2012070420234919.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img52/8878/arma2oa2012070420272613.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img846/6158/arma2oa2012070115061816.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img705/2953/arma2oa2012070610362197.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img705/7401/arma2oa2012070404140703.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img685/6921/arma2oa2012070115071564.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img641/4110/arma2oa2012063012545565.png http://imageshack.us/a/img51/6647/arma2oa2012071218140690.png http://imageshack.us/a/img26/1782/arma2oa2012071218161022.png http://imageshack.us/a/img715/9128/arma2oa2012071218135249.png http://imageshack.us/a/img819/1268/arma2oa2012083021495595.png http://imageshack.us/a/img571/6696/arma2oa2012083012232053.jpg I don't mind clipping through or passing through objects, never been an issue, can overlook that, provided the ai are good, they can use the environment around them, find good positions as they do now for our group in A2, really good positions.. Its all there, I know the mod makers have left, but surely... Please..:D -
9hrs, wouldn’t make a full mission for it and I don’t play BIS or user made missions, only play missions made for our group. The 9hrs is just testing/messing around sightseeing and a couple of short scenario type test setups. The ai is so bad in Arma 3 its just not worth making anything for it yet, will wait until Beta or game release. Not that I think the ai will be any better, but that’s the time things start to settle down a little, see what will come over to improve things from A2 then. As it stands it drums up no enthusiasm, I hope this will change at some point, maybe when/if decent ai arrives. That’s unlikely unless A2 modded ai can be used, which at the moment is hit and miss..:( Would say, our group play against ai most of the time, so its integral to the missions we make. For mp, player v player etc, it is probably a different thing, but this game needs decent ai, our arma 2 ai is great, only hope the same can be said for a3 at some stage.

OVER POWERED AI ! Please fix this for final game ruins coop
chrisb replied to BiZzR32's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
You really have to work hard at tweaking ai, its almost not possible in A3A, obviously, as there is limited places to tweak. However A2 on the other hand has lots of choices with various ai mod/addons, so tweaking is easier to get really nice, but it takes many hours of testing to get the right balance. Plus it’s a personal thing, not everyone likes the same type of game play. Standard ai has never really been challenging, they shoot very well and are given some ‘cheat methods’, if you like, which we have seen throughout the series, but they aren’t a patch on modded ai. Its all down to how deeply you want to get into the game, the standard ai is fine for those popping in and out, using it more like a shooter, works o.k, or will in A3 further down the line. But if you really want to get in deep with the game and need, or want, to use ai often, you have to tweak, experiment, test and use mods, there’s no choice really. Luckily over the years talented mod/addon makers have given this and other communities some really great ai mod/addons. These have given the players that want to get deeper into the game a chance to fine tune ai, to get them to almost exactly where they want them. Arma 3, I hope, at some stage may have the same options, as I said, I hope. If options do come over to A3 from A2, or new ones (mod/addons) are made, then there will be time to do it all again for A3. So all that can be said for A3 at the moment is, be patient and hope.. -
