    ArmA 3 Beta - Which Islands ?

    If your into huge battles, similar to the North African Campaign of WW2, there is a map already ported to A3 ‘dbo afghan', its vast, mixture of desert plains and mountain ranges. Nothing building wise but could be added here and there, but for big scale battles with huge fps, then its one to look at..

  5. I understand what your saying, however, my recording skills are not great, I use msi afterburner. When I record anything for A2 the sounds always seems to be behind the action, probably not got it setup right, so it may not be all BIS’s fault. The way they hear it could be totally different to the way msi records it. Certainly doesn’t sound like the sounds I get when playing, so msi must be wrongly setup somewhere, probably me.. If it sounds real :confused:, I don't know, never heard one close up, or for that fact even far away..;)

    Join a clan or form a small group, have your own server, whatever it takes. Just stay clear of the public servers, its never been great. If you do join a clan/group or form one yourself or have a private server, it will open your eye’s towards Arma gameplay. Playing the game with likeminded players, will always give you the best arma playing experience. As for DayZ, when getting any mods like this, and there are a few, its always odd being on an island that your used to playing on, but being there with zombies or aliens, a bit of fun, but odd at the same time. Not really for me zombies or aliens, but I like looking at what can be achieved with this game. Its all good, just slot yourself in somewhere with, as said, likeminded players.. Everyone has a right to play whatever they want, not everyone likes little soldiers on a map..:p;)
  7. The only bit of footage I have is this, its so boring I speeded it up. I shot and killed a unit on the airfield, they came searching after a few minutes, I had already put myself into a building some way off. I used a playable civilian to watch the ai, it took them quite a while, but they ended up at the building I was in, then I pressed record. It was obvious that once inside the building they were certain I was there, however due to the bad way A3 ai use buildings they didn't go through it much. I ran out, as you can see, but they didn't follow me, so not sure regards what they can and can't do. They didn't make a direct move to my position after the initial shooting, but went towards the last seen location, they followed that route, searching briefly here and there, but in general more or less straight towards my building. Similar to @DaRkL3A3R As I put in my video at the start of the thread (pg2), more or less the same settings, only I have Object detail on Ultra, the only setting on that last tab I need to drop is Terrain = Standard, can run it next highest up but there is not really any point, not worth the performance drop, all others on that last tab at the highest they will go, object detail gives me no noticeable drop. I turn off PIP, I think it’s a waste of time, just hoping ‘Blakes Mirrors’ gets ported over. Dynamic lights at Ultra, HDR to standard, FXAA on Ultra, no PP (don’t like it), AA x4 now, was x2 but as said in the vid, things got better, x8 just isn’t really needed for me. Atoc on tree’s only. The view distance was at 1500, but as I say in the video, performance has improved (for me anyway), so I have put it upto 2000 now and it runs fine (depends on ai amounts, lowest setting would be 1200 with lots of ai), I would however recommend 1500vd for missions, seems to provide good performance with enough vd. As said in the vid, my HD5850 2gb is oc’ed to C=800 & M=1200, this is reduced from my original oc for the core of 860, simply because it ran the game at the same performance, so no need to overstretch the card more than needed. Haven’t touched the game configs, so all those will be default settings (BIS). All in all, everything has shifted upwards a little from first release, performance is solid, as good as A2..

    I’ve not played JC2, so don’t know, but I think the water here in A3 is pretty good. The waves hitting the shore might be a little better, but overall the graphics are really nice. 900! that’s a big map.. Was it desert-ish ?

    More complex surrender system

    I have, for my own use, been looking at a mix I use in A2, being able to work in A3. At the moment with the dev builds I use, it’s a little hit and miss, they do some of what's meant to happen, but not all. If it could be used in A3, then I would be the happiest player around, its just getting it to work correctly. AI is very important, the most important, for me anyway, so I just keep testing it in different forms. At the moment there are a few problems , it would probably be better to let the game become Beta, then things might settle down a little.:).

    More complex surrender system

    There are a couple of mods in A2, SLX & GL4, that have surrender and gl4 can be altered in the configs, so even more usable. Both work really well using many of the things you mention as circumstances in which to surrender, but using these in A3 could be problematic..:(

  18. I agree with previous post, lighting has improved, wondering around town shooting them out is a bit of fun. Performance at all the usual places I use has maintained, so thats really nice. Performance in flying has increased for me, so that’s great too. Cheers BIS..:)
  19. I wouldn’t spend anything on it yet. If only I could have listened to that advice myself…:rolleyes: I bought an i7 with a 7970 for it, still going to put the game proper onto it when its released. But looking at it now, I shouldn’t have bothered for a year or two more, still plenty of life in my A2 pc and certainly in the card. Still, live and learn, but no, don’t spend until you feel you have to.;). Oh, on the A3 site it says its a 7750 recommended..
  20. The ‘user config’ goes in the ‘userconfig’ folder in your arma 3 folder. Don’t leave it in the dfs mod folder it won’t be found. Don't forget you can adjust the camera position too before using it, if you want of course..:)

I use my own fov setup in the configs usually, but I don't really play missions in A3 yet, just testing and setup at the moment, so 5:4 is a quick setup without touching the configs, plus my monitor has a 5:4 switch to adjust the screen to fill a 16:9 frame 1920x1080p, its near to my config settings. I always adjust the fov in the configs in this series to a custom setting anyway, much better I feel, more immersive to find your own prefered fov. I will set a custom fov for A3 once its settled and I play it a little more often. Still using A2 for missions, A3 for testing, setup etc, until ai are sorted in A3 I won’t be mission making for it really...

  23. Must say 'Armaholic' for downloading mod/addons is very quick and easy, never had a problem. Well so far, only had around, well hundreds, of mod/addons from them.;).

    Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

    Imagine building a game for a bar of chocolate, nice straight lines even pieces, that’s a console game.. Now imagine building a game for a packet of 'liquorice all sorts', that’s the problem faced by the devs when building a pc game..;)
