The same test as I did a little time back. We have had a couple of decent updates since the last one, but unfortunately not concerning the AI. A video showing over -35fps drop owing to recording with msi-afterburner, but still in the 50’s fps wise even with the large drop (counter on screen), and the ai, although a little better than last time, still really bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5howiYzRLGo Screenshot of the same test ran straight after the recording, but without the recording hit, even with fps at normal for me in this area, thats around the 90's (again counter on screen 89.4 fps), AI just as bad, took around the same time as the video to kill me. BIS any ideas on the way forward with this AI ? I don't think a last minute patch up job will help.:(

Very true..

Very valid point indeed. I use msi-afterburner for recording and it puts a real heavy hit on the game, down 25-30fps when recording. However, I tried it first without recording and it did the same, that’s why I did it again and recorded it, seems it may be a case of ‘hit & miss’ excuse the pun, sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Its true though, the more that’s going on the less sence you’ll get out of the ai, in any of the series. That’s why I play without going above 250ai in A2 and I would stick to less than 170ish for A3. I like smaller skirmishes anyway, its what I play the most. Keep em sane..

Great test. Did you put it onto the A3 forum..

What happened to the one shot kills philosophy.. Congratulations BIS, performance still great, inside the helis has fantastic attention to detail, game looks beautiful etc, Now what about the AI.. 720 only, couldn’t be bothered with 1080p, takes too long to upload.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUqmFrYFrGc Please BIS, or is this the way forward ?

Un-modded stock A2 ai. Modded and they do this when they're attacked:

Its SMK, works nicely..:) -
I said, completely inferior to the ai mix I use in A2, so not necessarily A2 vanilla ai. I don’t use vanilla ai, never have really, I had the luxury of beginning to play the series more often, during Arma, there were mods available that did incredible things to the ai. I found mixing and matching mods or parts from mods made even more of a difference. Therefore I don’t use vanilla ai, so wouldn’t really know if the ai are better or worse, but as I said, they are completely inferior to the A2 mod mix for the ai, that I use. Similar to the sight and sound thing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ulk80H-rS4&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-GTnxT0j75IyuIoZO_yi1g1&index=66 Lets be clear I don't make the mods, that is done by talented mod makers, for which I'm grateful, unfortunately they seem to have moved on, reason why I don't think ai in A3 will be as good...
-
That’s your opinion, and that’s fine. I have put a few different mod setups into A3, just the react to sound, sight etc, I can change that using parts from mods for A2, videos are on my YT showing the results, which are very good. Turn speed is a problem, but I'm sure they will sort that and the on sight issue, hearing wise we can only hope. But A3 ai is completely inferior, in all respects, compared to A2, for me anyway. That’s possibly because I use a heavily modded ai setup in A2. A3 is going to need ai modding, if at all possible, but I don’t think generally that the ai modding will be to the standard of the ai mods produced already for A2, the makers of which have moved on.
-
No.. The videos were in responce to an earlier post that said A2 had these problems, the videos are to say, only if your not modding it right. GL4/SLX/Zeus do not run that well in A3, in-fact almost not at all if you want decent ai. Thats why I said at the bottom of the post, 'AI' in A3 will never be a good as in A2, in A2 all these mods, or should I say parts from these mods work perfect. Don't just throw all the mods together and expect it to be good, it will be a mess, you have to use a good pbo setup..;)

Still have floating vehicles. What is it with Arma 3 vehicle movement, its just not realistic, to me anyway.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px6xHpN9P-Q

Just a thought dev's, could we get rid of the nodding donkey effect on the helicopters when hovering. The problem was resolved before A3, its been back in A3 from kick off, I think.:)
-
Then your i7 or card are not setup right..;) To topic, the new (0.71.107.70) dev version, checked the same locations I always do and the fps stayed the same, which is good.

I see you've been on here since 2009, so I assume you have played for at least 3-4 years probably longer. Problem is your not playing the game to its full potential, until you mod it correctly, you never are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQhcU1v8xQQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH6AeslVRt0 In arma 3 we need modding of ai, Arma 2 ai is pretty near spot on, for me that is, for many its still in the dark ages. Mod, test, mod again test again, keep repeating it for many hours and you get results, there are hundred of different combinations to use mod wise when you select parts from those mods rather than use them all. Should this all be in game, well yes, but its not, so its down to the player to tweak the game, most don't, they prefer to say 'it don't work', well it does, if you look for it. Though on the other hand, modded Arma 3 ai will never be as good as modded Arma 2 ai, thats more or less guaranteed..

Certainly not the reaction I get from ai. If I'm hidden away somewhere safe after the satchel is laid/detonated, they would have to come look for me.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM8mikzIuEo ---------- Post added at 01:46 ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 ---------- Again not what I see in A2, they drive o.k. not in convoy, that takes a little tweaking, but on the whole they're very good.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NaFR6OJTPA I know these are Arma 2 videos, but the only way you get very good ai, is by modding it. Thats how its going to be for Arma 3. Doesn't change, never has, modding ai gives you the ability to play the game to its fullest potential. Don't wait for ai changes to be implemented, it won't happen, it will be tweaked and thats it. Mod it, when you can, if you can for A3, not sure myself if its going to be the same as A2, there we had the best ai mods available..

ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread
chrisb replied to max power's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I brought some armour over for testing, heavy armour, tanks etc, they just bounced around, very odd and not worth pursuing, yet, give it time..;) -
Well that’s certainly not what I did or expect, I said they were deaf, which is quite true. Will they hear at some stage via dev input, who knows. Also, they have been in development since 2001, how long will they need, do you think, to properly implement it ? Don’t answer that, because its already been answered, years ago. _____________ Guilty here, but, I don’t play the game in Vanilla form, never have really, only to try it out after each patch or update. My game is always modded in some form, I have never played the campaigns or scenarios they provide. If they did a different version whereas all the campaigns/scenarios/training etc were took away and simply left the resources and the Editor, that would be fine with me, I'd buy that. I just make the game play the way I want, very realistic, but also entertaining because of that realism. The solution you say is not mod's, well for a little over 7 yrs I've not been playing the game you have, must be the case. Using mod/addons give the game a realism that is not possible with straight Vanilla, thats only because ai mods change completely the ai behaviour, for the better, way better. Not fair and shouldn't be the case, but its a fact.. We're not ever likely to agree on the importance of mod/addons, certainly not ai ones, but that doesn't bother me, play it as you want and let others play it as they want, thats what I think.;) ---------- Post added at 03:31 ---------- Previous post was at 02:59 ---------- No argument there, just that pretty decent is o.k. but it has to contain the whole package to form great game-play..

Why are the scenarios so unrealistic?
chrisb replied to Tyrant-0's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Buy an Arma 2 box set, gold edition etc. Arma2OA is just a better game for what your wanting to re-create. I haven't played the scenarios or any other campaign, BIS or otherwise, so can't comment on them. But from what you say, sounds like the 'Editor' is the place for you, make anything happen as said already in the thread here. Its the best thing about the game anyway, imo. Make sure your set comprises at least; Arma/Arma 2/OA/BAF & PMC/ACR, its all well worth the money and any combat type is achievable in the Editor..:) -
I only cut out to this, as I understand what your saying regards the rest, although may not agree with some parts. But for this above, the only thing that can be said Coulum, regards the vanilla game, is that it tells us the game needs mod/addons and has done from very early on in the series run. But thats not wrong from my point of view, I am a strong fan of mod/addons, I appreciate the work players put in, either building, testing helping etc, yours included. But mods make the game customisable, which is the essence of the whole thing, as I see it, maybe you and others don't see it like that and thats fine. But I would rather have it that way than any other, lets face it they are not going to get it right in every aspect, why change now after over a decade, so there has to be something. It’s the mod/addons that give the game longevity, thats how I see it. I’m not adversed to opening up pbo’s and having a look around myself, but could never produce what the makers of the mod’s I use, have produced, well maybe some, as they are clearly influenced by others...
-
If I sat in front of three of these, my hair would stand on end and eye’s pop out :butbut:. Great for the younger set, way too much for me. One on the other hand, well, that’s just dandy…:)...
-
The whole games scripted, but you know as well as I do that’s not what he meant or me. No script was added by the player (me), if that’s hard for you to understand then so be it. The way the mod works is way beyond me and I'm certain is way over your head.. Perhaps they will give you your bipod, will keep you happy. I on the other hand, want to play a warfare game with as intelligent an ai as possible, I can imagine I have deployed my bipod..

ArmA3 may have fried my graphics card...
chrisb replied to freddyk83's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Run msi or something similar in the background, have your temps displayed (I have mine on the small screen on my G19). That way you don’t fry anything, 97c is a little too much, although they can hit 100c I’ve been told by the ‘fire brigade’ ;):p. I never let my card get above 75c, usually hovers around 65-70c on heavier missions. Also you would have been better going upto a 68** or 58**, it’s the second number with these cards, there won’t be that much difference in performance with your upgrade, but it may handle it slightly better, although a 2gb or above is favourable for this game. :)
