  1. None of the above, I use aiming deadzone sometimes. Max and it can give you a fair shooting radius whilst moving forward or back, without deviating from your course, which can be kind of useful. But it takes a little getting used to. Moving the top portion of your torso, is handy, in life & in-game.;)
  2. You would have to set config to 'read only', then it won't change back to default.

    Where is the Game?

BIS got it wrong, badly wrong. Whilst trying to appeal to a wider playing audience, and over stretching themselves after all that had gone on, they took one of the few weapons in the game, out, and proceeded to shoot themselves in the foot...;)
  4. What would that 'homework' have been, that some of these unhappy customers should have done ? To check the game is always sold without a campaign ? Perhaps to ignore the advertising of a campaign and details of storyline, that would be in the game at release ? Or on the other hand to forget the content that was said to have been planned for inclusion in A3 at release ? To get the correct idea of what they were buying, as you see it, a link to the site saying how it would be released, would be handy, if you can supply it, just to check they're not making it all up. You know, the site/place it said that the game your buying would not have a campaign or much content, be as buggy as all the other titles etc. ? Alpha or Beta doesn’t have to have anything much, its all a build up to the game release ‘proper’. But, selling the game early via the alpha and beta, in an enticing way, 'get in and get it, at a lower price', is fine, provided you don't say anything about what maybe included on release. But to my knowledge, although your going to provide the ‘link’ to other stated information to the contrary, but to my knowledge, the selling was based on what the game would be at release, that was the enticement to buy. The information I saw leading upto A3, which lets be honest was a long process, always gushed about what would be in there on release. I may have missed something, but that's mainly, no, that's all, I ever read regards A3 info from BIS. Some on here need to get out of this BIS bubble they live in. BIS have upset and let down some/many customers, period. Doesn't matter how much you love BI for their games, defend them for 'whatever', there comes a time when you simply have to put your hands up and say, look, its a mess.. I don't care regards A3 and its release, provided it had the Editor, that's all I was interested in. But you have to see they're point, or you truly are living on another planet..
  5. Well done to CIA group for producing the letter. I didn’t sign it when it was sent to me to read a while back, but I could see at the time it was a well laid out letter expressing their concerns in a polite but positive way. Also nice the fact they got a good reply, all in all a good exercise.
  6. Looking great, nice to see this period coming to life, only seems like yesterday the actual war, time fly's..

    Project RACS

Congratulations on your new arrival/baby boy. With two children of my own and four grandkids, I can certainly say, it’s a joy. Thanks for all your past work..:)
  8. If your on-line gaming you can’t turn your Anit Virus off, no one is saying that. However you can regulate with many programs, how and when to update, be it at a certain time, or a day or via manually doing it. Anti virus will need to be running when your online, full stop, for me anyway. But I have it set to manual update. Look it’s a case of lean and clean, if there are processes running that you don’t need, switch them off. We are all fairly confident we need protection when online, so leave your protection running, but set it up to do things when you want, not when ‘it’ wants. Windows is behind your game, leave it on basic, it will do no harm, if you like the cool look of normal windows when your not gaming do what I do, switch them back on.. Any programs that you don’t use or haven’t for some time and can’t see yourself using much again, get rid of. I know of very few things that don’t want to update, sell you something, or just pester you with crap offers, to top that, it all comes down the line at you when your trying to get a decent performance from your pc for gaming. This is an old argument, I've had it on here before, "oh modern pc can handle it", etc. Well news is, everything has an affect, be it very small or larger. The more you have the larger the affect, not rocket science by any means. Plus you'll be surprised what attaches itself to some of these simple program downloads, don't accept anything you don't want, breezing through the install and not reading as you go along is a recipe for disaster, it will put on all sorts if your not careful, you either have to un-mark it, or say no, read as you go through if you must download rubbish. :p;)
  9. True, what the OP said is good advice, it certainly will help. When looking for a good gaming experience you need a gaming pc, doesn't have to be the top end, provided when you get it (preferably new ‘all parts’), you start behaving as you mean to go on, keeping it lean and clean. So many players have soo much running when trying to play, all that makes a difference, don’t be tempted to put stuff on there, keep it as a gaming pc solely. It will give you a much better experience. Ah I’ve heard it all before, you shout, but, I’m running A3 on my A2 pc. I ran A2 very high with a set 2000vd on the ground and anything I liked in the air, depending on air battle going on. Every setting was on High or Very High, the ones I use, not PP don't like the effect, or vsync always off. I now have A3 running on that pc, although I have a pc waiting for it (not sure if I'll bother putting it on yet), and it runs great, more or less all ultra settings (didn't need my new machine really:(), again the settings I like, not PP, v-sync, or PIP, but the rest other than sticking to a lower vd, 1200-1500 on the ground and no more than 6000 in the air. There are lots of videos to see in my YT, some fps tests etc. And the pc! a Athlon 640 quad with a hd5850 2gb card, beats this series into the ground other than vd, its not hard to do, its just got to be lean and clean, but from new preferably.. Take the advice of the OP, look through your running processes (task man) and turn off what your not using, because when you hit that internet connection they all jump on wanting to update, while your trying to play your game. Also as he says, turn Win effects off or down, they are not needed for gaming, make a ’user’ name and have that for your gaming, have it run on basic settings. Anti spyware can be a problem when online or SP, it will be checking for connection quite often to update, several times a day in most cases if your AV is any good, same with windows, update at a time you want, not auto update, once a week update is fine for most applications other than AV, which you can update at the end of the day. Don’t game with all this rubbish running….. In-fact, don't game with anything other than what's needed to run the games your playing, everything else 'Bin'. Good advice @Henri, oh and welcome..:) Carry on ;):p:)
  10. I didn't really touch the in-game settings at all, did it all via the software provided with the item. The items I bought were during A2 period, I set them up for that, but they have rolled over pretty well to A3, just a few tweaks, again via the software, not the game. :)
  11. Not sure regards pedals etc. But I use a Nostromo, plus a Roccat mouse, with these you need to set them up using the item software and not the in-game, have you checked trying to set it up via the Saitek software, I also have a Rat 5 (saitek), that is also best setup using the software supplied, not in-game. Worth looking through, although as I say I don’t have pedals. I had a Trackir5 pro, that needed its software for setup too, don’t have that now, couldn’t get used to using it, to old in the tooth for change perhaps. Hope you get sorted.
  12. _______ Everyone has an opinion, yours is yours and mine is mine, and yes I do know that it was in essence aimed at me or lets say, the likes of me, with the view of A3 I and others have. But it doesn’t matter, its how I see the series after playing the game the way I have. How you see it, may/will be different, that’s completely acceptable to me, none of us are going to agree on all points. Provided we bought the game, I did, I like to support BI, they provided the best series of games ever made for pc, of that we can probably all agree. How we decide to play the game is always going to be different, for each of us players. Plus, we are all allowed a say, its what being here is about, a passion for anything, will always cause arguments. ;)
  13. Arma 3 has split the playing community in this series. There are the players that side towards realistic game-play, towards the ‘sim’ side if you like (me included). Then there are the players who side towards the more mainstream easier to use and play side, the game side. Now I think A3 has gone towards mainstream, but as I have said before, not totally, they sort of landed in a no mans land, halfway (at the moment), neither fully mainstream or fully following its roots. With patches and dlc’s etc, it may come back toward the original format (roots) i.e. more sim like, but its doubtful. On the other hand it may go further towards mainstream, this is what I think will happen i.e. further away from its roots and into mainstream itself, more gamey. This is what I think BIS were wanting after they saw the success of BF3, can’t blame them for that, more income/sales. The players that find A3 really good and think it feels more realistic, would have never played the series heavily modded, that’s where you find the realistic side of this game. If you played more or less solely the vanilla game previously, maybe a few effect mod/addons, then A3 will feel better. If however you played with mod/addons that boosted the sim side of the game i.e. going for realism, then I/we can clearly see A3 doesn’t fall anywhere near realistic, compared to a modded A2CO game, which favours the more sim side of the game. Arma 3 takes the opposing route to that, going toward mainstream, far more gamey. Now its released as a game, for me the game itself is mainstream enough to be called, a mainstream shooter. That’s simply my view, but it seems to have gone that way, players are most definitely split between the two playing types: sim like, or game like.

In the test vid there, I think something was at work other than your ai, I had AiA running so it might be that. I will test again later. What happened was just the one unit moved forward and really too quickly, not sure why, sort of went solo. Still, when working right, this type of behaviour does lead to really realistic extended fire-fights. If there is a no mans land in between the two factions (i.e. not much cover) fire-fights can last an hour or more, depending on force size. Far more realistic than constant move forward and shoot, type gamey stuff we see in A3 vanilla ai. The ai are certainly in no hurry to die, rather think about what to do and fight from a distance, perhaps calling re-enforcements etc, if available (they have to communicate with each other for that, something GL4 mod did very well in A2). Anyway thanks for looking at it. I will test again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B792n3_cKAk Looks better for cover taking, although a problem with moving forward, just one unit does, not sure why. I've got AIA running too, so maybe it could be that.

Thank you very much for looking and considering some of these, if any can be recreated for A3, it would be a great start. Thanks.:)

Partly the reason why I find A3 ai so hard to play a reasonable game with, is shown below, these A2 vids show great modded ai, if this could be brought over it would be a massive improvement. I have been playing A2, and indeed Arma before it, with ai that play really well, they use great tactics, make use of buildings, pop smoke find cover well, react to the situation they are faced with better, react to sound & smoke, plus much, much more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IylSiNcHguI&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=63 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edQzO5oIg7o&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=89 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ6lpc48u_8&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=12 Its all a long way from A3 ai which are pretty bad, to be honest. Hope you can maybe look at some and see if you could recreate some of the behaviour shown. I have many examples on my YT, see sig, thanks.:) Testing a mod at the moment, but I don't think they are going to release an A3 version, just for A2, which is a shame.:(

    Mouse issues, hard to aim...

OP; get a decent mouse & pad or at least the pad. A good mouse setup makes a big difference, not so much for your aim, but helps towards the smooth running of the game. Setting your mouse up right, can make for better gaming. :)

Wondering how accurate Arma III is?

@slyboy Its really about how you play the game, get some like minded friends together or join a good group/clan and it can be as real as you make it, or indeed single player, make your own missions or play community made missions that suit your style of play.;)
  21. If you get the building ID you could use: this setPos ((position this nearestObject 27516) buildingPos 1); this disableAI "MOVE" Either in the init of the unit or on act of a wp. Of course you need to know positions in structures, worth noting down, also once they’re in there, its not guaranteed they can get out without falling. (27516 is a single storey watch post on Stratis)
  22. If we didn’t compare modded against Vanilla, few mod/addons would be made and even fewer players would play using them, which would all be a shame really. Modded AI is better in both games at the moment, some decent mod/addons coming along.
  23. Being a fan is not a problem, being a blind fan can be, although we’ve all done that before at some stage in our lives, about something or other.:) I agree with a lot of what your saying there in your post.
