Rules Clarification Please! - Are "Terrains" excluded from the contest?
chrisb replied to bushlurker's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I like terrains, there, I said it. Terrains change the game completely, probably more than any other single addon or mod, well almost. They give a new game every time and can be much better than stock terrains. I appreciate anyone who makes them, I don’t have a favourite terrain maker, here or anywhere else in the wider gaming community. For me they have to be ai friendly, takes a little doing to get right I think (not sure, I don’t make any addons/mods), it also has to be performance reliable, if it isn’t, then its just a tourist resort for me, there has to be plenty of cpu power left for decent ai. But as said, terrain making must have a place in the competition, or the competition is sort of, un-worthy, seeing that playing the same terrain over and over does not prolong the games life, whereas a good terrain is a new game right there, just my opinion. Go on BI, do the right thing, terrains should/must be allowed, surely..:D -
A really great mod, true to say it’s a thoroughbred, thanks to all involved for their hard work, much appreciated.:)

Now your joking here... right..;) You know what the cold war was ? The Cold War was a time of political and military tension between the East and West, not a war, started shortly after WW2 from the mid to late 40's until the early 90's. Some think its starting again, but this time its the USA v everyone else, apart from Israel that is.;) As for A4, if there is an A4 it will be so much like a console game, it wouldn't be worth parting with money. That's based on the difference in game, between A2-A3.

I'm inclined to agree with that in part, although doesn't need to be ultra detailed, but keeping it smaller may work better for performance for players. But its ultimately your decision, so whatever you decide, its a great map anyway. Not tried with ai yet, but if and when the ai can use the buildings well, it will make for some serious city combat.:D

There are some good things on youtube, but for such a large subject and catastrophic loss of life to all nations that took part, Allies or Enemies, you really need to read up properly before giving a blasé response like that. A very large subject that really deserves much study before, well, giving silly one liners that are so incorrect.:(.

Really great to see you have released a test version, pics look great too. Downloading it now and will look at it shortly, thanks for sharing this.

No that would be wrong to say I think. Its a vision they had right back in the late 90's of a game about war, that gave you the opportunity to play it whichever way you wanted. Open world maps/terrains/islands whatever you want to call them, so roam freely, design missions however you wanted, obviously depending on your pc power. I think that's a vision that came true, all since is just adding to that, mod/addons are just that, something to make it deifferent in some way. The series has thrown up some surprises, concerning mod/addons, but by no means do they sway the original vision. If players think they make it better, then that's fine (I myself think that), but without the original vision, we wouldn't have any of it. Just how I see it..;)

Great to see you going forward with this, I wish you all the luck for getting it finished, but no rush, next year would be good 100yr anniversary..

+1 Its the easiest way, that's for sure, also you know your playing the game with like minded players, so the game mode is easier to set up and run. OP good luck with your clan :)

I'm on 1.63.112.555, beta is in the expansion folder in A2. Not sure why you don't have an expansion folder as your running a beta:confused: Got to go lay down now, you've confused my brain..:p

You did a fine job with OFPElite for the xbox, work of art getting all that into the black box. I really only played around with it, making my own missions in the Editor, but it was a real eye opener for the console, hundreds of 'games' in one, if you understand what I mean..:) Nice work..

Its possible its just in a no-mans land at the moment, players want to play but are having issues, must admit I don't have issues, it runs really well, but there are some that are. Plus of course talk of bad performance and lack of content soon gets around many forums etc online, so new players that may have been thinking about playing could get put off, wait to see what happens, i.e. if its fixed, whatever it is players think is wrong. New mods like 'Alive' could generate a lot of interest, it seems easy to use and fits nicely with mp I would have thought, large scale missions without having to put much effort in, not my thing but there you go, plus its performance friendly it seems. If some more interesting mod/addons come along, that will help bring it up some too, just time. The next 12 months or so will be the teller, but there will always be players that play A3 mp, so it won't completely die, even if it doesn't set any records, it will always find players. :)

In the UK VTK version (which is probably way out of date now), its in difficulty settings (fatigue). But for VBS2, its great for a training tool, as for using it as a game, well, its great for a training tool.;)

Good way is to start with a simple mission tutorial, try looking at the link here, should give you a good start, if not there are plenty on YT. Welcome.:)

Guerra do Ultramar
chrisb replied to dimitri_harkov's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
That would be really great, but all good things are worth waiting for so no rush. Good luck with more progress.:) -
War gaming goes back decades. Pc war gaming however was born properly with this series, and all because of the Editor.. In there you can make any type of war game you want, any size. Anything war game before this series on the pc, was pretty lame, if we're completely honest, well for me they were..;) When I first looked at OFP when it was out, I thought, another lame one, how wrong, missed a whole episode, goes to show..:o

Terrain Improvement (dev branch)
chrisb replied to NordKindchen's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
I agree, 'near perfect' are strong words and perhaps to those that don't use ai often or play against them on a regular basis, then perhaps it seems odd to say it. But I/we as a group used to play against ai most of the time, and on very few occasions was I that disappointed with the behaviour, don't forget a game against them is not like watching them as in a test, which highlights the good and the bad, in game you get to see them in the immersive world of arma, then you have to forgive certain things or you'll simply not enjoy the game. Same here with terrain, there are faults, lots if you look really carefully, but in a well put together very immersive mission, I don't care regards the faults, I'm here to make of the game what I can and enjoy it, and the faults usually don't occur to me that much, considering I have been war gaming decades, most of that was on a board and odd pc crossover versions, compared to them, this is highly immersive and yes indeed, very near perfect. They can do silly things the ai, but on the whole they will make the right decisions regards tactics and the rest, provided you use a good ai setup (unfortunately has to be a mod setup). Show me perfection in pvp games, doesn't exist, but to the players playing, it does.;) Put it this way, the ai we had (smart mix), won an awful lot, thanks to the great players/makers who made those ai mods..:) -
Lets be honest, changes had to come to this forum eventually, the banal sentiment of you and others, made it happen. A club of players thinking this was the centre of the universe when it came to the series. Its not, it had something around 6-8000 members two years ago or so, out of how many copies sold (hard copies), in the past decade or so. Best to open your eyes and look around, the majority don’t come on these forums because of the likes of yourself, not the new comers, double standards was the norm on here. The 'its my and my opinion only that count' days, have gone, that's good for the forums, they are alive now with new members and ideas, not all good, but in lots of ways, better than it was.

Terrain Improvement (dev branch)
chrisb replied to NordKindchen's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
That's only because you play with poor ai, unfortunately.. Wait for a while, it will get better, via mod/addons that is..;) A2 was near perfect with the right type of ai, all mod's made by players, here and elsewhere. -

ARTEMIS - Hunting Instinct AI algorithm
chrisb replied to Rydygier's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for sharing this. I have Ryd_Hunter, is this the same or slightly different ? I have been playing around a little with hunter, and its proving very interesting. There also seems to be no real performance hit, although I think you were expecting some, maybe ? Could this be adapted for a spotter and sniper duo, never mind I'll play around some more. Thanks, great thing, very interesting. -
[WIP] bCombat infantry AI Mod [SP]
chrisb replied to fabrizio_t's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
AI have been using smoke for sometime, slx, gl3/4. They use it well, when under suppressive fire, for injured cover etc. I have uploaded a short test to KAI channel where they use it to get out of a building that is under suppressive fire. It works they fall back to the next building and it all starts over again, great building to building combat. Everything they carry, has to be usable by the AI, and indeed it is with many ai mod/addons, should be the case in A3 as stock, but BI don't care too much regards ai, which is a great shame. -
What's happening here then, I thought the game was out already, minus lots of things, granted. Is it a re-launch, or have they got something up their sleeves, maybe all the A2 stuff for A3..
-
I just did a quick A3 v COD 'ghosts' that was 27,000 for cod and 7,000 for A3, that's more of a comparison I would have thought as the two games are recent releases. But yes, it depends on time, day and the rest. Regards A2OA, there are a lot of private group servers I would think, not shown, its a very hobbyist game A2, more so than A3 I would think, maybe a year down the road A3 might be the same, doubt it though. I view A2CO as a hobby, I did the same with Arma prior to that, A3 however doesn't feel right for me, at the moment, may change. Not sure if that many ever played mp in either of the series, its not that the game is as popular as the real mainstream stuff. It fairs o.k. but really I would have thought BI wanted more than that from A3. Still fingers crossed it improves over time for them.
