    The Newcomers' Introduction Thread

Hello @yuppiecrusher, welcome to the mad house..;)
  2. Ah yes, they may be a problem in mp, not for any other reason than they may think they give an advantage against stock veg, depends who you mp with, but you can only just try.:)

    Arma 2 OA Map list

Then probably have a look at Hotzenplotz updated (2010) ‘Malden’, ‘Kolgujev’, ‘Nogova’, ‘Everon’ not forgetting ’Trinity’. Also ‘Napf’, some of the FSF terrains i.e. ‘Podagorsk’, ’Varkgard’, maybe also gsep’s ’Zernovo’, ’Miroslavi’ etc. There are plenty more, but take a look at some of those, see if they're what your looking for.;)
  4. I took out: Dayz Daysz_anims Dayz_code Then just had a good look around and at the bits and pieces i.e. vehicles etc they have in there. If you want the island only, put in: Tavi Taviana (although you say you have done that, did you leave the old one in there?) I would remove your other tavi/taviana the old version, works fine for me, looks great, he’s done a nice job with it, pretty authentic looking and has a apocalyptic type feel to it. Mind you I don't bother with dayz, although missions could be made for other things on there. Its still a little heavy here and there, but I think he's improved performance against the original, for me anyway.
  5. That would be really great to have a pack available to place on other terrains.
  6. I downloaded the newer version, its really great, I thought initially you had to be a player or member of the group. Nice, thanks for the heads up vilas.;)
  7. Yes rest up, a change is good. Thanks for your hard work on this, much appreciated.:)

Can you halo jump in the editor?

There probably is a script for it, have you tried here, also google 'arma2 halo spawn scripts' also does this help, there will be one that's for sure, somewhere.. Haven't tried any of these myself, but worth a look.:D

    Arma 2 OA Map list

Sparsely inhabited or semi inhabited i.e. towns villages etc. Sparsely would be the large PMC terrains for vast tank battles, these include Rattler, 51km Desert, Rugen. Plus there are a few German based maps or that way out, Huertgenwald (bet_huertgen) summer or winter, also Schwemlitz again summer/winter versions. Celle would be o.k. Tigeria perhaps, there are quite a few depends on what type of terrain or tank battles you had in mind. Nevada desert can easily double up for a ww2 desert campaign for tanks/armour as can some of the earlier mentioned, just need to populate them a little, vast areas though, so ideal. There are a couple of Afghan terrains that would be fine for that, Fayshkhabur would be another really good one, also Sbrodj winter or summer versions etc. There are many, what type of thing did you have in mind?
  10. Look, try it, no problems will occur and to be honest in the height of battle your not going to notice too much, they look o.k.. Collect what's needed, put the pbo's in a folder '@veg' or something, I have @game_enhance for bits and pieces, then put it in wherever you keep your mod/addons and fire it up and have a look. Try a terrain without it first, say Podagorsk, that's pretty heavy going in places, use msi or similar to check the fps rate, then do the same spot with the veg folder fired up, see if you have a difference in fps, I'll be amazed if you don't see a good jump in performance. Well worth trying these things, the difference between mud and a hard surface..:p
  11. By the time you've looked around and done all that, which is more or less possible to do, you just might as well use ACE as you know its going to run nice and even, as said by @seba1976, what you want is all there in ace. Why not ACE on your server? of course there is the possible, no won't say it..;)
  12. If your not too fussy, download ‘PvP_Veg’ from Armaholic or Armed Assault site, then add all accept the ‘ResistanceVeg’ones, all the others add into a folder say @game_enhance this will give you around 20fps boost as it replaces the veg on Chernarus, Podagorsk etc with original veg from earlier games, i.e. heavy terrains made lighter.. They don’t look too bad, I use them if I have large numbers of ai in a mission, helps keep the fps up, plus helps with cpu, need that for good ai. Other enhance pbo's to consider; disable ballistics computer (pvp tweaks), instant view distance (IVD) or dynamic view distance (DVD). Other pvp or proper tweaks are; vehicles, tree's, roads & statics visible at distance, 'Summer Veg' mod is good too but not to use with the others mentioned here. There are a number of things you can do to increase performance, my A2 pc runs both A2 & A3 really well (sig) on more or less highest settings (differ in mp), so you should be able to run with a medium range pc upwards.

    Arma 2 OA Map list

There are well over 200 terrains, possibly more, but that's the amount roughly I have, probably nearer 250 maybe (not counted for a while). Some are the first arma (A1) maps that play well using CAA1, also ACEIP maps, not ai friendly really, more coop missions etc but good anyway. All the official OFP maps are available, either upto date or CWR2, plus some that were not official maps from ofp are knocking around City wise Fallujah is great (as said above) probably the largest city terrain and best. Performance on Fallujah is really good, also try Baghdad & City 34 on PMC 51km desert terrain, performance is really high on these too. There are numerous smaller cities (towns really) on many terrains, most will have something to offer. Use Armaholic or Armed Assault site for terrain downloading safely, plus google, there are a number that are not on these sites but can be found (just be careful on DL), also private terrains for groups etc, can only use these if your a member of the group of course. Some terrains are better than others where ai is concerned, path-finding can be an issue on some, but all have something to offer, if only a good look around. There are so many great terrains its hard to choose sometimes..;) PS. another option is pick say Nevada Desert map or similar and build your own huge city with 'Town Construction' module, takes no time if you use the Advanced module download, builds it for you, can find that link if needed, put as many buildings as you like in and you'll find ai will be pretty good using the buildings etc (depending on what ai your using, not stock), it will be a random setup and footprint of course but really good for urban combat house to house etc and training.:)

    Guerra do Ultramar

Congratulations on the release, its a great terrain, thanks for sharing.
  15. In my view you missed out on the best game of the series (so far), I know it took a while, but it showed better promise than A3 is at the moment. I just wish they would have held on to A3 until at least the end of this year possibly into next (2015). Put the time and effort into Dayz to get that out of the way, to allow themselves more time to get A3 finished and more like a successor to A2. A2 remains the better game (game play and realism wise), that shouldn't be the case, the series should evolve not step sideways and in some cases backwards.
  16. Everyone’s enthusiastic about BI staying with the series, we have to be, there is no alternative. That said if there was an alternative game made in a very similar way to this series in the future, I think a lot of the so called ‘community’ would show their heals and leave. BI is fully aware, they have this end of the market, more or less to themselves at the moment, that’s why players are willing them along, just to keep this ‘type of game’ alive, not necessarily this series. The title to the thread is a misinterpretation of what’s really going on, and that’s other people doing BI’s job of getting the series to some sort of launch standard, which it still isn’t. Grow up and open your eyes to what they launched and delivered, against what was said over the past couple of years regards what was going to be delivered in A3… Even at the start of the money taking process, they were still leading along the idea the game would be 'as advertised' all those months/years prior, well it isn’t.

What's the story behind your username and avatar?

Mine, well that's my name, obviously ‘b’ for the initial of my surname. The avatar, William Henry Pratt ‘Boris Karloff’. In the very early 1970’s in the U.K. there was a film on every Monday evening starting at 10.30 or sometimes 11.00pm, the slot time went under the title of ‘Appointment With Fear’, obviously the film playing would always be a horror film, my favourite’s were anything with Karloff in, I was 11yrs old in 1970, so the films could be pretty scary. Not only that, but I had to talk my mum into letting me stay up to watch them, that could be even scarier ;). I usually ended up watching them on my own because everyone else went to bed :butbut:

    An Honest Review

A2 is better than any previous or present game in the series, for me, but only when its modded up. If serious ‘mil/sim like players’, that’s a player who likes realism without the boredom of vbs2 and without the crazy A3 game-play, if that player wants serious realistic war gaming but with the joy of it remaining a game and not becoming a true simulator (training tool), then A2 is the game for you. However, if graphics and a more gamey game-play style, is your thing, then A3 is the one you want, it certainly stops well short of bf madness. I play A2 with a group of friends, its great, better than any other game out there in this genre, there again there’s only BI making this genre really. But A2 modded with a good mix of ai mod/addons (if your not lucky enough to have KAI) and the experience will be completely different and far superior to A3. Movement with SMK in A2 gives more or less all you’ll need, plus various other bits and pieces such as st-movement/collision some of the ‘proper’ bits, also effects etc, etc. Plus of course a really good ai mix that suits your game (as said) and whatever forces/equipment etc you want from the vast amount of content available. Spend time setting A2 up and you’ll never be able to put A3 above A2 in all honesty, A2 will win out hands down, if realistic war gaming is something you like. O.k. the graphics of A2 are not the best, but really, if your playing this series the likelihood is your after some realistic war gaming, when did graphics become important in that! Oh and a bacon sandwich to whoever said BI needs competition, that’s a very true statement, they do, but they’re unlikely to get any within the next few years, but maybe, just maybe, something will pop up 4/5 years ahead, who knows, we can hope though. All of the above is said based on a player using the editor, to make and play your own missions/campaigns or those of the group you play with. Can’t say regards the BI campaigns, never played any other campaigns/missions, other than mine or the groups, so not sure which is the best there, but going off game-play, surely A2 must win out there too.;) Just my view..
  19. Seems many projects might be kept private, or within circles, just the way things are progressing now. Shame as this island was pretty good, albeit a little heavy, but that would have been sorted I dare say, probably has been, but I'm not into dayz, so the version I have lies on one of my hdd's in storage, sad.:(
  20. Ah, its great to be back, even better now its in A2, the terrains were always better than A2, even more so in A3 I would imagine, not looked yet. I44 has lots of assets that can be used I should think, alone with 'the few', also the 38 mod etc. Anyway. Thanks to everyone for their hard work in getting this done, and of course for sharing.:)
  21. This is a nice surprise, I knew I kept IF for some reason or other.:)
  22. Not sure, but you could try it: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=18713&highlight=ROCABF
  23. Maybe you could put a video up of the type of thing you want, I'm not familiar with gears of wars.
  24. Yep, have a nice time over Christmas & New Year :)

    Kradnostrov Map for ArmA 3

Maybe a US setting would be nice, hard to find many countries in Europe without castles or long civilised (well almost civilised) histories. Still good luck with your entry, I like any terrains, even ones with castles, ruined or not. I live just a few miles away from Conwy, which is a walled ancient city/town with a good intact castle (great little town too). There are many castles around here, it would make a good terrain spot, if only I had the talent. We have a church here from the sixth century and a great welsh poet was born here in the village in the fourteenth century. Nothing wrong with history, or lack of it, royal or otherwise.;) Tourist plug over...:p Good luck with it anyway.:)
