  1. Great looking project, good luck with progress.
  2. Wasn't aimed at you, its in general here on the whole board, not necessarily just this thread.

    The Gaming Industry

No..:p;) first minute of the rubbish, if that..
  4. Sounds silly (excuse pun), but what sound form is A3 made for, Stereo, 5.1 or 7.1. I mean actually made for, not maybe advertised as.
  5. I agree, its hard to get even an imaginative mind to work around that one. But your right, its exactly what I do, if its not great and it upsets your game, don’t use it, there’s plenty of other things in the game that work fine, so move over to those, just what I and most of the players I know do. There will be a mod somewhere or made sometime to correct it, happens most of the time. We’re lucky that way in this game. :)
  6. I know there are things that don’t work the way they should, its part of the series makeup, always been the same. They cram so much in, its bound to be the case, air, armour, naval, infantry, arty, etc, etc. Sometimes we have to be forgiving and allow them poetic licence in coding/scripting terms, they can’t realistically get every detail exactly as it should be, not only that but it has to be accessible to all, not everyone wants to fly a real plane, heli, or handle a tank or indeed fire a real gun. But its fun to do all these things in a game. Don’t get me wrong, I love realism, but it exists as much in the mind as it does in the game. ;)
  7. Wish you lots of success with this project. Funny how many of us want A2 type terrains for A3. I remember PMC doing some huge terrains for A1, they performed really well, but roads were an issue back then (not their fault perhaps). This is a forward looking project with a foot in the past, no bad thing. Good luck with it..:)

    The Gaming Industry

If you think what is said in the video sums up the industry, I think that's naïve, there’s plenty out there if you look. It’s a kids view of the world in general to think that every developer is the same and big business spoils everything. Where big business crawls in, there are twice the amount of small business (devs) trying to make better more forward thinking material. We know that, we’re on a forum of one of them, are we not..

A Complete Arma 3 - Not That Far Away

So, does this mean we feel the game might reach a complete state merely a year or so after release. No, I know that's silly, it won't be complete until they finish the game, being its a sandbox, maybe that's never and perhaps that's a good thing. I believe A3 might have to last us, for many years to come..;)
  10. Good call Bravo409, you went with what you saw happening with your eyes, rather than all the rhetoric (that so many use here) regards what the code or script said should have happened. :)
  11. If the G13 has a analogue joystick, then I would go for that, would be a great help for movement i.e. progressive speed, rather than set speeds when using buttons. I don't think its adjustable for length, which the Nostromo and I think the Orbsweaver is. But perhaps the design doesn't lend itself to that. Looks good though, if you buy one let us know on here how you get on, might have a look myself. I love my peripherals. ;) The G105 looks nice, although just be warned the backlight on my Logitech keyboard (G19) is pretty weak, and I have heard many comment that their logitechs have weaker backlights. The V7 is really bright, clear and slightly more spaced out keys. But its down to what you feel is right, go for whatever, sounds like a nice combination. Edit: just a thought how many keymaps, i.e. different key combinations does the G13 have ? you need a few..
  12. It sounds like good news, however does anyone know if there is going to be a mission editor of some type. I know they were thinking about it. Also I see its going initially to MP (sad really), will it be mod'able, when will details be released concerning that side of things. Also any talk regards AI for the game, will it be included, how good, plus posibilities of modded AI being brought in. I like the look of this game, but for me and the player/groups I know, its really important for the AI to be top notch, provided its mod'able there is a chance this may happen. The Fragout Studios, anything to do with SMK movements used in A3 here. ? All questions I know, but you never know if an answer comes your way..:) Edit: Also anyone know if 'Sniper Tactical' is for pc or just mobile type thing.? O.K. ignore, found out its for Android:(

    streetnames

Street names are a good idea. Blue smoke however, not sure, could always paint a target on your head..:p
  14. The Cyborg V7 there in your link, is the same one I use for gaming/typing. I also have in my setup, a Logitech G19 just for monitoring via its screen, handy for temp, gpu, fps monitoring etc. Any of the Saitek (sorry Mad Catz now) gaming mice are o.k. the Rat 5 I have, few friends use the Rat7 & 9, we all think they're very good, nice solid mouse. At the moment though my Rat is resting, I'm using the Ballista Mk1, which is not a regular brand (Shogun Bros), but a really fine gaming mouse (good reviews). Of the three I have left Roccat Kone+, Rat 5 & Shogun Ballista, the Ballista feels the best, but only slightly better, but its a very personal thing when it comes to gaming, whatever you like, read up, look at reviews and decide, but decide yourself. Buy from Amazon so you can send back easily and get a refund or exchange if you don't like whichever you bought. I had a Razer Naga Epic around 12mths ago, but sold it, too many buttons and too small, just couldn't get my fingers to work them correctly. So don't go over the top too much, 6 button gaming mouse is nice or thereabouts, left/right click on the wheel is good too, in A2 I used that for mirrors when driving, then gear and scroll weapons when infantry. Its all personal taste really. What I do know though, is that its exciting getting all the peripherals sorted out, then a nightmare trying to get the best setup for them...;)

    The Newcomers' Introduction Thread

Welcome, always nice to see new players. :)
  16. I use a Nostromo, plus multi buttoned gaming mouse, more or less for everything gaming (spoiler/sig). Must say I hardly ever touch the main keyboard/s, the 8 way keymap coupled with the 27 key possibilities i.e. 8x27, allows for more or less everything (includes the 8 options provided by the stick, can be macro’ed for ex-stance positions for A3, you know, lean with your hand in your back pocket whilst reclining, that type of thing ;) ). Macro in complicated combinations and its really easy to play with. Left hand on Nostromo right hand on mouse. Won’t tell you what I use for the KB. Takes a while to setup though, be sure to put keymap 1 for general unit movement, after that its anyway you like (that's if you buy one of course or the Orb). I was going to upgrade to the Orb, may still do so. They lost the wheel on the Orb and I think I would miss that, I use it on the Nos. I have a gamepad, its of no real use for arma, maybe flying, although I find it all easier nos/mse. Each to their own though.:)
  17. Are there any pics of performance for i5 & i7's around, with fps counters etc, or videos perhaps. Just pottering around in the editor or in mission, whichever. What would the frame rates likely to be, in say 250-300ai mission, no more than around 50-70 meeting at once, sp or mp, for i5 or i7, mid-high end system ?

    The Gaming Industry

How gaming and the industry has changed since the mid 70's ! :D Thank god for that.. ;) I can still marvel at what I see in games. Its given me decades of enjoyment, so I'm not going to complain too much. Provided it keeps me entertained and my body doesn't give up on me, I'll be around video gaming (on pc, of course). :) Gaming @ 90, wonder what that's like..

    ArmA3 performance survey

Why, what fps do you get in the editor running around with a few ai, obviously when not staring at the ground ? Should be fairly high based on your specs.

    Customize field of view!

POS is right, definitely experiment with your FOV, not only will it make for a custom outlook which can be better than staying with the standard ones, also it may help fps for those with problems. Going in too far like POS has (just imo), although comfortable for him, is the reason you only see the barrel of the gun, but it should help with fps, also its your game and it’s a case of whatever is comfortable to play with for you. That however would be too far in for me. I always test in 3rd person but play only in 1st. 1st person is much more immersive for me, doesn’t work for everyone though. If you like playing 3rd person, a good method is ‘dfs_3rdPerson’, play with the settings in the user config and it will give you a custom 3rd person view too. I use a drawn back view for testing, gives a better perspective. But yes fov settings are good to experiment with, try and keep the ratio right, but whatever is comfy, that’s the main thing. :)

    ArmA3 performance survey

This I agree with and have heard said, quite often, within our and others groups. It seems that BI may be too keen on using community members to work on the series. Whilst this is good to include work done by your users that can, on the surface, seem of a reasonable quality, this doesn't always follow on, in what should be, a professional work environment, where the product your making is for retail, not amateur mod making. That's not a put down for mod makers, just simple fact. I love using mod/addons, but I can choose whether to use and/or donate to those makers, I bought A3 retail and that should be finished to a high 'professional' quality. __________ Back on topic, performance is an issue for some in MP, that is clear, but the content needs work as much as the performance. To be honest, performance is always going to be an issue for some, every pc is different, its kept and maintained differently, so the developer can never get it exactly right for everyone concerning the games performance on individual systems. The content however, can be made to the highest standard for all customers to enjoy, this includes putting the content in that should be there and also making that content work correctly. Performance is an issue, but when many are getting good performance, whereas others with similar, or in some cases, better systems (on paper) are getting bad performance, that may not always be the developers problem. Our group has a cross section of pc's playing this game, all of us get good performance, with the occasional hiccup, but on the whole A3 runs as well for us as A2 did. In this thread it has been said performance has been bad from OFP and never changed, thats certainly not the case. There were a number of advances in the performance side during the last two years of A2, so to say nothing has been done is wrong, it has improved. A2 ran better than Arma, A3 out of the gate ran as well as A2 at 1.62, for our group certainly, those that had bad performance in A2 and now A3 should be looking at their systems and how they are maintained perhaps. PC gaming requires a dedicated 'good' gaming system imo, always has, not your everyday pc. That system doesn't have to be the most expensive on the planet, simply maintained well, lean and clean with a good gpu. Content however, as said, should be there and working correctly, to a high standard from the start, after all its a product and its content we're buying. Performance is a much more difficult thing to nail down (almost impossible), for everyone, there are always going to be some players that will not get their game to perform well.

    Gulf Of Aqaba Map

That certainly makes a difference, fps much better now looking at the greenhouses. Thanks for the update to those, can go plant some tomatoes now ;)

    Gulf Of Aqaba Map

To be honest I didn't find the trees that heavy, just the greenhouses. Nice to hear regards the update, looking forward to it. If I see anything else I will list it here for you.

    Gulf Of Aqaba Map

Just a tree in the road on the r/bout in the royal residence there. Haven't seen anything else yet. Look forward to your findings concerning the fps drop, if there is nothing wrong there, it must be something my card or cpu doesn't like.

    Gulf Of Aqaba Map

A very impressive terrain indeed, you have captured the vastness really well. Great work and thanks for sharing it. Only slight problem I have so far is the greenhouses/glass houses, really drain fps, look in one direction away from them and I’m getting 90fps, look back at the glass houses 35fps, that’s a large drop. Only happens with those glass houses, may of course be just my pc not liking them for some reason, not sure. The rest of the terrain performs really well. There are parts that are absolutely beautiful, really great job you have done. Thanks again.:)
