  1. I think I ll go with some ~200 $ amd cpu, and next upgrade will be better gpu - any comments ?

currently I have 8Gb 1333 memory, is it worth buying new 8gb of little bit faster ram or is money better spent to something else like ssd,

there is no need for a $200 AMD cpu at this time unless you have or doing something that needs 8 cores, the FX 6300 should serve you just fine and it is $120 (read the reviews at newegg) as for you question about more ram there are 2 things you can do 1. buy another 8gb of 1333 and create a ram drive or 2. buy a 32gb SSD for $50 and put arma 3 on it, I recommend the latter SanDisk ReadyCache SDSSDRC-032G-G26 2.5" 32GB SATA III for Windows 7 and Windows 8 -based PCs that should bring you in at about $170 :) and that extra $30 you can put towards this XFX Double D FX-795A-TDKC Radeon HD 7950 Black Edition 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 $180 after rebate :)

  2. Just upgraded my budget system, almost 'complete' now.

case - Cooler Master 430 elite

    motherboard - Asrock Extreme 4 z77

    psu - Corsair TX-650w

    cpu - i5 3570k .... (upgraded from pentium G2020)

gpu - Asus GTX 660 ..... (upgraded from 650) ... almost purchased a 7970 but trying to stick to lower budget.

    memory - 8GB .... (upgraded from 4GB)

HDD - 1 TB seagate barracuda

SSD - (still have to get one)

The 660 is enough for me to run A3 comfortably. Might get a 'new' GPU next year, but for now its enough.

the 660 is enough, i have one and get 35-50 in MP (for the most part) most of the time my CPU will choke long before the GPU does.

  3. Hi..

    Got my new pc..

    Intel Core i7 4820K @ Standard (3,7 Ghz)3,9 Ghz turbo

    watercooled by coolermaster seidon 240

and by test i read easy to OC to 4,7Ghz.

    Kingston 24 GB DDR3 1600

    Asus rampage IV extreme

Asus GTX Titan 6 GB ( getting 1 more later for SLI)

Samsung SSD 840 evo 250 GB

    seagate barracuda 2 TB

No crashes with Arma 3 so far and 5500m viewdistance

almost everyting on ultra getting 60 FPS...:bounce3:

OH MY GOD!.......you do realize you DON'T need another titan right?????

  4. i5 4670k + motherboard is probably the best upgrade you can do for arma if you have ddr3 ram already, should be around 300 USD

or if you can find the 3570k cheaper it's only around 10% slower, also why no ssd?

true but that 650ti IS a lowish card, so upgrading the back end might get him 10-15 FPS because the VC is now the bottleneck :( and i am guessing no SSD because he cant/wont reload his OS.

Best bet is for him to save the $300 add another $200 when it comes available and throw a 660 or equivalent when it upgrade time .

  5. Thanks for the replies folks.

I was hoping that it was some kind of 3D editor where I could place objects, troops, etc onto the existing maps (I don't think I'm ready to build entire islands yet).

Hopefully, someone in the ArmA community will come up with something. The 2D editor can be tedious, y'know...

    Anyway, thanks again.

I know all about tedious :) I have been building a castle in layers for 3 weeks and manual editing the file to line up the X,Y,Z axis to get everything lined up :) send me a PM and will get on TS and i will share all the little tricks i lived so far :)

  6. @windies , this has a 30 day free trial, give it a shot and tell us what you find.

  7. you will have little advantage in dense forest on chernarus (AiA) without AI and heavily pushed AA-modes. Thats all :p OR: overclock a haswell to 6GHZ.

6GHZ?...outstanding idea and if he closes off all ventilation to his case he could throw a 2 pound roast in there and cook dinner while he plays A3 ;)

  8. Holy shit that main memory speed is a huge impact to FPS. I just make a comparison a different DDR3 speeds, look at the results. :don3:

    1333Mhz > 2133Mhz (same latencies) give me about +30% more FPS (46>60fps).

In another hand, Memory 2133Mhz+CPU stock > i5@5.2Ghz gives me almost same impact (47>60fps). So memory speed has a same fps increase than overclocking my CPU @5.2Ghz.

you know what is scary about this...you are almost 2GHz above stock and all your getting is 14FPS increase. faster ram is helpful but replacing my current ram to the tune of $85 just to get 14FPS is not really worth it to me.

thnx for the graph though :)

  9. Then some of the other poverty spec gamers came to support him

your sounding a bit elitist there mate.

to answer your question yes that quote is from someone running A3 and like you when i saw it did cause me to raise an eyebrow :) now as for the whole "antiquated hardware" argument I say this, the assertion that old hardware is to blame is both wrong and right , it is right because the new architecture runs single threaded apps much better but it is also wrong at the same time because the engine can not fully utilize his existing hardware which makes for a valid complaint.

  10. By that rationale, we should demand 120 fps from FSX because performance is performance! Despite the fact that it's simulating hundreds of ai planes and thousands of sq miles, and persistent real world weather patterns.

If you try to put one and two together and you still come up with the conclusion that Arma 3 absolutely should be getting 60+ fps at all times without question, then you're failing at a 2 piece logical puzzle.

Comparing apples and oranges is only going to waste your time. Until you start comparing your apples to other apples, you're never going to be happy.

better yet how about comparing core to core?....1 is at almost %100 and the others are at...%30! its one thing for a game to max out available resources to the point where you have to upgrade but its an entirely different issue when the game can not use available resources.

  11. I only judged you as someone with a feeling of entitlement who seriously expected devs to reply to a post asking why an 8 year old CPU isn't working very well.

    who's rig is this tank?

    Old machine:

Specs: 1920x1200, Win 7 32-bit, MSI Motherboard, Intel Core Q9550 @ 2.84, 4GB RAM, MSI 560 Ti Hawk, OS on Intel 330 120GB SSD, ARMA on Samsung 500GB HDD.

Settings: all maximum except Visibility 1600/800/100, Objects & Terrain Standard, Shadow High, SSAO Disabled, FSAA & ATOC Disabled and all post processing at 100.

    Avg 50, Minmax 40-67 fps.

  12. I have a 550 Ti and I can run this game on ultra with a view distance of 5500 at 60 FPS in the editor. It must be your PC. It's IMPORTANT to download SlimDrivers and let it update everything, it really helps a lot.

sorry mate i had to highlight that, go play on a MP server with those settings or the helicopter showcase and come back and tell us what you FPS is.

to the OP, I know you don't want to hear this or do this but it is important and will help to rule out a whole bunch of possible problems.

#1 remove and reseat all hardware (ram,VC,) make sure all connections to MB are solid and make sure Heatsink is clean, make sure case fans are clean and case has proper air flow.

#2 Update the bios on your MB to the latest stable offering.

#3 do a fresh install of windows (yes i know it is a PIA)

I tell you this as a person who has built and repaired soooooo many PC's and has to track down problems that were not even related the problem they were causing, for instance on my own personal rig i had a USB hub go bad (or so i thought) then i thought my game pad was going (device plugged in sound kept going off) this along with a weird type of latency in games that i had never seen before.

turned out that when i bought a new case and moved all my stuff i decided to upgrade the BIOS. problem disappeared ...my BIOS had a bug.

I have also encountered over the years how mis seated memory can lead to all kinds of system corruption or a HD with the connection not %100 in causing all kinds of havoc so it is really good idea to make sure from the ground up that everything is sold before you spend hours pulling your hair and screaming ...this makes no sense!

  13. My oh my, I return to Arma after a year or so and the first thing I read in the forums is this thread... never seen so much crap in one place.

I cannot spend any time quoting every piece of crap I found written here, so I will just answer a generic answer - if you think you can do a better job than Arma 3, well... go ahead, grab this book, and after some dozens (hundreds?) of thousands of man-hours, and many many head-bashing nights and weekends looking for that race condition in your inevitably buggy multi-threaded code, come back here and post your amazing product so we can all enjoy it.

and BIS is suppose to do what? continue robbing Peter to pay Paul? ...we don't have the TOH flight model because it caused to much FPS loss....we cant shoot the shutters out of windows because it causes a further 10-%15 FPS loss. The thing that should really bring the future into focus for you is the fact that the new consoles are sporting a low clock hex core from AMD...how do you think engine's that cannot scale across multiple cores are going to fare in the environment?

There comes a point of diminishing returns which means evolve or die! business 101...keep up or pack up!

  14. 99.5% percent of people who post anything about RV are haven't the foggiest idea what they're talking about. It's like a conspiracy theory for complainers. I've thought about dubbing them (not just in an ArmA context) the engine sluts, but that might get me banned,

well just for the sake of argument let me point out that %100 or the people out there from the guy with his doctorate in computer science to the hobbyist who builds his own rigs down to the laymen that just knows how to turn on his PC all see the same thing....underutilized resources i.e ram and CPU power.

  15. I was wondering if there are any monster dual core processors available. Seeing as the game utilizes only 2 cores, the lavish cpus of today apparently suck for playing the game. If i were to have a very fast dual core, say like 5ghz per core, would performance improve drastically? I've an i5-2500k atm, the game runs smooth in most cases. But for max performance, I'm hesitant to OC though as I've never done it & don't like to void warranties.

I'm not a computer wiz, so what I've said maybe makes little or no sense at all.

    A. no

    B. get your self a hyper 212 and google "over clocking guide" have fun

p.s i have the same chip running at 4.2ghz
