after watching some of the VBS2 2.0 videos I am starting to think that A3 is just A2 with select features from VBS2 2.0, in essence a stripped down version. they did afterall according to what i have read port the entire VBS sim over to the A2 engine so it reall would be a short leap just to port a few features from VBS2 2.0 such as sky diving,underwater combat, PhysX ragdoll etc. here is a video from almost 2 years ago with them testing PhysX in VBS2 here is a video with a submarine in VBS2 2.0 from last December.

newer? in this video from 11/2011 i see parachutes, scuba diver and ragdoll. just out of curiosity im going ask again why if VBS 2 2.0 was based on the A2 engine why was A3 not based on it...a stripped down version for the public and before you start telling me it s different company they are both under the BI umbrella.

I did not know what VBS2 was till i caught mention of it in another thread and after watching a video for VBS2 that came out 18 months ago i am forced to ask why did BI NOT use this as the engine for A3 and just offer and pedestrian/civilian version? i know you say its a different company but it says Bohemia interactive....

anything can be competitive as long as the field is even and the rules are same for both parties, but when it comes to games lke COD/BF3 the field is anything but even, unless you are on a LAN with the exact same equipment and settings other wise hardware and connection differentials start to make it uncompetitive. A good analogy would be if you were to clone yourself and in front of you and your clone were 2 brand new identical PC's with a vanilla install of BF3 with default settings. now you and you clone are going to engage in an old fashion duel which is you start back to back walk 10 paces turn and fire...10 out of 10 times you will kill each other. now do the same test over except your clone with have mouse sensitivity turned all the way up...now 10 out 10 times your clone will kill you...because he now has a hardware advantage over you. Now add all the different gaming mice,keyboards,pads,macro's...etc along with latency and hardware differentials and you have no idea if a player killed you or was it locutus....it seems the more borg you are the better you "seem". ArmA3 could be an e-sport contender but the community would really have to hammer out the details of how it would be handled.

because if i understand what TMCT does is it takes and existing load ARMA3 and recompiles it so the entire load is broken up over 4 cores to utilize ALL the processing power, you may want to read at there site exactly what they do. As for multiple threads in A3 , the problem is they are still waiting on the main thread (core 0) which is where the bottle neck comes in...but if the main thread was able to use all 4 core's in parallel even at only %50 parallelization would still get 2x speed increase. :)

this is a war simulation ....if there was ""balance"" it would end in a boring repetitive stalemate. improvise,adapt ,over come...you adapt your tactics to the situation at hand. Do you think that all the technological advances that have happened in warfare were because some one said...hey...lets try this...no, most of it was born of necessity. the famous tiger tank is a prime example...it was born because they needed to counter the T34.....because the battlefield had become unbalanced in terms of tank warfare. balanced is boring in terms of this game...innovative and ingenious tactics to counter a superior adversary make it more fun :) ...like the Germans had to do before the arrival of the tiger :) -

thnx, i was just reading why that happens, apparently if you over 60fps vsync will lock it at 60 if you under 60 it will lock it at 30, I also read about the triple buffering....more latency is something i don't need ;)

alright guys i know this is tedious but turn every thing OFF and to lowest settings and play one of the showcases incrementally turning feature on and up till you find the culprit or a happy balance :) BF4?...dont do it mate...dont :) p.s vysync is acting weird and locking me at 30fps

do you self a favor and just spend the extra the $20 and get a 660 :) as for your FPS i was on a DOM server tonight and with setting on very high and 1920x1080 on the DEV/BETA was getting 30-50 FPS it dipped down to 20 on occasion but was very playable overall...much to mu surprise :) I have started making videos of different scenarios recording FPS to give a cross section of settings vs hardware vs servers and types of missions they are running....hopefully it will be rready in a few weeks :) p.s look at my sig , we have the same CPU , you should try over clocking it :) ---------- Post added at 03:36 ---------- Previous post was at 03:30 ---------- im with ya...il get the torches and pitch forks :) I am not going to say that you are wrong in feeling the way you do but I will say that as of tonight i have seen a marked improvement :) however what they listed as "minimum " requirements is ludicrous :( why don't you tell us what your system specs are and then maybe we can rob peter to pay paul and get you into a playable state :)

arent there 2 different locations for the missions? one in my documents and on in the core folder? if i remember correctly i had the same issue...turned out i was loading the wrong mission....its been months since i tinkered so i could be wrong.

I believe what he means is that if the FM is changed that it it effect handling and timing in missions causing them not to run as planed, plus the TOH flight model adds more stress to the engine :(

if he keeps turning off and disabling features the next thing he is going to see in the mission editor will be a big blond with a crew cut saying"im not gonna fight you..im gonna kick your ass"... :)

rd does it really make you feel better coming off as a condescending Scheißkerl? I believe some one already pointed out that BIS had said it was " a brand new engine" but that is irrelevant at this moment . the fact thet there is nothing like it out there does not help or justify the state that it is in right now. one way or the other the issue has to be dealt with and since you are talking from a business POV then you should understand that this type of negative publicity is NOT good for business. I watched cliffs of dover(flight sim) which had 7+ million extra invested in development raked over the coals in reviews which ended 18 months later with the plug being pulled. yes...all games have there "issues" but this is not a bug or glitch this is more fundamental and at the core and the TOH issue just exacerbates even more. I did not start this thread :) and yes the OP is naive when it comes to what is involved in engine design and building but at some point that becomes mute as people dont care what is and was involved they only care that it does not work and again that is bad for business. My research into parallelization,concurrency, multi taking, multi threading logical vs physical cores ..etc has been enlighting in both directions..i have read where spread things across to many cores can have the opposite effect, i have also read where FPS went up %15 and that was just on rendering. Pufu, you what you have to do when you have to do it... and they have to do something. crap?..no it was spot on your just splitting hairs...was Audi, BMW, Mitsubish, producing these engines in 1970? no they were putting lawn mower engines in golf carts and calling them cars...let me shorten the analogy for you hemi=power with headroom, tuner engine (RV)=Maximum limit reached and as you have said (per the writers of the engine) throwing more cores at it wont help with performance...why is that DM? unlike you analogy of the 1.6L producing 500HP RV is not cutting edge..because if it was we would not have to constantly turn up the clock speeds along with turn that off turn this down...etc your right , as RV is right now this wont help...however http://www.vectorfabrics.com/assets/pdf/VFP-201242.pdf whether you think its bullshit or not the new consoles are here ...there 1.8GHz and companies will be adapting or writing engines to use this architecture.
