HC is a great way to improve performance by using redundant processing power but it's a bit of a pain to setup and I believe missions have to be specifically designed to utilise it as well. Wouldn't it be possible to just have a launch parameter to make ArmA3 automatically spawn a HC process and then, at the start of each mission, make it check whether the HC is running and if so, intelligently offload some of the work to it, without the mission designer having to customise his missions for HC? That way, those with spare cores could get a bit more performance when playing SP or LAN missions without having to do anything complicated or look for specific missions and MP servers could benefit in the same way.

Tophe's Arma Dedicated Server Tool (TADST)
doveman replied to tophe's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Would it be possible to have TADST look in an additional folder for mods? I have all mine in a separate folder from the game installation folder and so it doesn't currently see them and requires me to add them one by one, which is quite a pain. -

Beazley's No BLUFOR Radio Protocol
doveman replied to beazley's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Damn, that's a shame. Thanks for the offer but it's not going to be realistic to keep switching mods depending on what side the mission has us playing us. Anyway, thanks for the work you've done on this, maybe it will inspire someone else to pick up the ball and make an auto-detecting version. -
I was confused by this initally, as I'd always understood the alternate channel to be the one we set but as was explained to me a few pages back, Alternate transmit is just an additional key to do the same as Transmit and the extra channel key is actually the Additional Transmit one.
-
I didn't actually know that thanks, that might be good enough for me :) ---------- Post added at 11:36 ---------- Previous post was at 11:34 ---------- Yeah, I agree you wouldn't want it taking up too much space when zoomed out as well. I guess I'll see if BIS will consider giving us a toggle button to hide the compass, so that we can just have it one, usable, size.

Beazley's No BLUFOR Radio Protocol
doveman replied to beazley's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks for this Beazley, just a couple of questions though. 1) Will this only work if playing as Blufor or can it automatically adjust to situations where the players are OPFOR/INDFOR. In my group we play a variety of missions, so would need something that would disable the chatter for whichever side we're playing as, whilst leaving the enemy chatter audible. 2) Does it also disable sidechat, as often mission designers use that for important messages. -
Any way to disable Ctrl+mouse movement from shifting view in vehicles?
doveman replied to doveman's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Thanks but that's not it. That's mapped to * and does the same as Alt, except it's a toggle whereas Alt you have to hold. The problem I have is it moving the pilot from side to side when in a helo and holding Ctrl and moving the mouse. -
I can't seem to get it to work under Win8.1. I'm using RadeonPro and I see the SweetFX On/Off in the top right corner when I toggle it with Ctrl+S but I don't see any visible effect and I'm testing with a profile with splitscreen enabled. Steam overlay is disabled as is MSI Afterburner's OSD.

Great mod Beazley, love the enlarged grid refs and compass and removed idle anims. I wonder if you might be able to enlarge the map compass, as that's still very small and unreadable? I suppose it's difficult to avoid it blocking the view of the map but maybe you could leave out the lid with the slit, as that's probably not that useful on the map. I guess ideally we'd have a button on the map to hide/unhide the compass but that's probably quite difficult.

I couldn't get EDTracker to work at all with my Pro Micro/MPU but I've got my Pro Micro/GY-85 working great with a HC-05, so it transmits over BT and doesn't need a USB cable (I'm using a portable USB rechargeable battery stuck on top of my headphones to power it all). http://sourceforge.net/p/facetracknoir/discussion/iht/thread/eced1cb2/?limit=25&page=12

Any way to disable Ctrl+mouse movement from shifting view in vehicles?
doveman replied to doveman's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
bump? If this can't be disabled, I'll open a ticket for it but I don't want to do that until I know. -
Love the speaker function nkey but I find it impossible to hear the radio myself when I activate it. Could you make it so that the sound goes to both the speaker and earphone when the Speaker is activated.
-
The key config in-game shows me both Alt and Additional channels for both SR and LR, with the Additional set to T and Z respectively. I'm totally confused by this, as we've always had the Alternate channel, which used T and Y as I recall but now it seems these Additional channels are using these keys by default, with no key set for the Alternate channels. In fact, the key list on the TFAR website only refers to Additional channels now.

I just get a deafening distorted, 8-bit sounding noise when the helo crashes. I'm using Razer surround software but it doesn't cause any other problems in Arma or other games, so I don't think it's related.

Oh well. I tried flashing EDTracker2 with the command line tool instead but still just get "Error for connecting to COM12" when I launch the GUI. It's definitely on COM12 and it works fine when I flash the Calib firmware, just not the Main firmware. Anyway, I'm only really interested in using the GY-85, so I'm not going to waste any more time on trying to get this to work. I was only looking at it for a friend.

Sorry, can you explain what the opentrack workaround is and how to disable it? I'll keep posting on the sourceforge thread as well, so that we keep Sebastian in the loop. ---------- Post added at 18:55 ---------- Previous post was at 17:39 ---------- I've tried flashing my Pro Micro/MPU-6050 with the EDtracker firmware now, using the GUI as described here http://edtracker.org.uk/index.php/downloads/category/3-documentation The Calibration firmware works fine and I was able to click "Calculate Bias Values" a couple of times to get the orange and green dots in the centre. However, after flashing the Main firmware, the GUI can't connect to the device. The COM port is still available to Windows and the app, so it's not that. I tried restarting the app and unplugging/replugging and tried an older firmware as well from the dropdown.

I agree with this but think that BIS should implement it as DLC, so that they don't alienate any of the casual players who provide much needed funds to them but those of us who want more realistic systems can purchase the DLC and then play on servers where the DLC is required. Much like the Helicopter DLC, where you can choose not to have it and fly the old, unrealistic helicopters or buy it and use it to fly using a realistic flight model.

Ah gotcha, thanks. I'll try my MPU board with EDtracker and the latest Opentrack then. My GY-85/Pro Micro tends to lock up with high Raw data if I put my headset down on the desk. It's mounted on top, so it puts the board at roughly 90 degrees to the desk when I put my headphones down.
-
Certainly my GY-85/Pro Micro is prone to stop working suddenly and when I check in FTNoIR, the raw data and output data is stuck on some high numbers. I have to disconnect the USB lead before I can restart it and it often requires several tries. It also doesn't seem to like it if I plug in the USB cable before starting FTNoIR but it's hard to be sure as it always takes me several attempts of unplugging/re-connecting to get it to start even with FTNoIR loaded. When it's working it's been quite stable for me in DCS and ArmA3 though. I had to severely limit the Yaw in DCS, otherwise it makes the view jump when I look towards the rear but limited to about 40, it lets me look as far back as needed without doing this. I just bought myself another GY-85 to replace the MPU on my second board, so that I could experiment with getting it working via BT, whilst keeping my other USB only board intact, to use for gaming in the meantime. I might give EDTracker another go first though, if it's working better now. When I run "java -jar UpdateTool.jar -l" though, the latest build is dated 4 September, so where do I get this newer build you refer to from?

How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
doveman replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Yeah probably, although my layout is a bit different as I have D:\Games\ArmA3 (the library folder I set for ArmA3) which contains Steamapps and Steamapps_dev or Steamapps_stable depending on which is active and within each of those is the relevant appmanifest file and common folder. If someone's starting from scratch and copies the folders and files as per your guide it should be fine though. I'm finding Windows 8.1 doesn't like it when I try and rename the folders though, even from an elevated command prompt and throws up a "Access is denied" error. I've got UAC disabled by setting the slider to the bottom and setting EnableLUA=0 in the registry, as per this page http://blogs.msdn.com/b/hyperyash/archive/2012/07/18/disabling-user-account-control-in-windows-8.aspx so I'm not sure why it won't let me do it. -
How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
doveman replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
I wouldn't say that's easier. As you say, anytime there's an update to Stable, you have to Switch the original copy from Dev to Stable, which could involve a large download and then again when switching back to Dev. The other method avoids this by allowing you to keep both Dev and Stable installed and updated separately and update either just by renaming a couple of folders. ---------- Post added at 16:24 ---------- Previous post was at 16:10 ---------- Good job Greenfist, I'm sure this will help a lot of people. The only thing I'd say is that you can simplify it a bit by creating an additional Steam Library just for ArmA3, e.g. D:\Games\ArmA3\, as then it creates a Steamapps folder there containing the appmanifest as well as the game files, so you can just rename that folder to Steamapps_dev or Steamapps_stable and switch between the two by renaming one or the other back to Steamapps. I don't think it's possible to move an already installed game with Steam though, so for people who've already installed ArmA3 it's probably easiest to use your script as it is. -
I just finally gave up on TOH and deleted it (only paid a few quid for it and Hinds anyway), after giving it one last chance trying to land my helo in the career step "Easy Landing", with my Sidewinder FFB2 and Saitek Pro Flight pedals, which work great in DCS. I probably spent about an hour gently trying to nudge her backwards to stop forward flight, only to start going backwards and vice versa. I know there's meant to be a delay between moving the controls and the effect it has on the chopper's movement and was allowing for that but it was just ridiculous and more like piloting a large, heavy ship than a chopper!

[Camp-SP] ArmA CO - Hammer of Thor
doveman replied to nettrucker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
You can download a 1.63 beta patch from the web or with pws. OK, not the most recent 1.63 stable but maybe it's enough if you want to test compatability of your missions. -
Saku's mod does a nice job of tidying up the keybindings to make it a bit easier but there's only so much a mod can do. For weapon selection, perhaps hold modifier (I.e. win key)+scroll wheel to scroll through a list of weapons/grenades, switching to the selected on release, would be quick and easy and avoid any more keybinds to remember. In those games that use Ctrl+1, etc I could never remember which key selected what and always ended up selecting the wrong things before I eventually found what I wanted!
