Clearly I was naive to think that this being assigned in September 2013 meant it was actually going to be actioned :( I'm very disappointed, especially considering that BIS said their focus with A3 was going to be on user-created content, that they still haven't given us a way to easily launch a mission that uses such content. They could have easily specified a text file, e.g. missionname.txt, that lists the required mods e.g. @ACE, @CUP and should be provided by the author with each mission. Then the launcher could show all installed/subscribed missions with their description and when one is selected, launch A3 with the required mods. Automatic mod downloading would be ideal but even if that's more complicated to implement and for now we still have to manually download mods, at least this would allow us to easily launch a mission without having to first check which mods are required and manually creating a launcher profile for each mission. I've subscribed to loads of great looking missions but never played any of them, as when I have some free time I just want to play something, not spend time checking what mods are required and creating a profile to launch A3 with those mods (which I've probably already installed with PwS for online/MP games) and I'm sure many authors don't bother using mods in their missions as they know it will limit the number of people who play them, so BIS lack of attention to this issue is severely hindering the use of user-created content.

Sync - Discover, Publish and Synchronize Mods - Public Beta release
doveman replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
From my experience, you can update the version of a mod in the yml but you can't add any new mods, as they won't be added to the Collection. The only way I've found to add new mods in the yml is to unpublish the Collection, import the new yml and publish a new Collection which creates a new link you have to distribute, which isn't great.- 42 replies

Sync - Discover, Publish and Synchronize Mods - Public Beta release

What size do images need to be for the Collection banner in order to display properly? The one I just tried uploading spills over the box on the website but in PwS it just shows it squashed out of proportion in the middle of a mostly gray rectangle.- 42 replies

Sync - Discover, Publish and Synchronize Mods - Public Beta release

Is there any way to update Collections that have a mix of Six-hosted mods and custom repo hosted mods yet? For example, if I edit my custom repo to add a mod (and Commit and Push it), this is not reflected in my Collection which I've published and there's no "Update Custom Repo" option in PwS for this Collection, as there is for an unpublished, custom repo-only based Collection. If I import the custom repo again using the pws:// link it does add the new mod but also resets all the mods versions to Global, so I have to go through and set them again, referring to the Install button to check I've set them to the installed versions. It also breaks the link with the published Collection, so I have publish it again and distribute a new link, which can cause problems for other users if they've added other mods as they'll have to delete the old Collection, add the new one and find and add their additional mods again to the new Collection. In fact, I can't publish the new Collection as I get an error about one with the same name already existing, so how do I delete the old one? I had a look on the website but couldn't see a way to do it there. EDIT: I found both the old and new Collections were still in PwS with the same name, so I was able to Unpublish the old one and Publish the new one.- 42 replies

Sync - Discover, Publish and Synchronize Mods - Public Beta release

I found the settings thanks. I had already found the settings button but hadn't noticed the Account and Games tabs under that, so maybe you need to make them more obvious as they kind of fade into the background at the moment. After watching Sonsalt6's gifs I found the add repo to collection button after adding a mod to the playlist and clicking on Create Collection. Not sure what you mean about "either import the settings from the repo server or you can manually specify them in the add mod input" though. With SyncUI under WIndows 10 when I click settings a window with General and Games pops up but nothing happens when I click on either and the popup won't go away until I close the program. Also the latest client beta doesn't work for me under W10, the previous one does but after I update it just briefly appears in Task Manager and trying to launch SyncUI just gives me three instances of it in Task Manager but no other sign of it. Downgrading to the older client fixed those problems.- 42 replies

Sync - Discover, Publish and Synchronize Mods - Public Beta release
doveman replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Thanks sonsalt6, it definitely helps being able to watch something like that to understand how to use the program. Unfortunately I still find the whole thing less intuitive and more complicated than PwS, for all its faults. In that I have all my mods in a list, with the custom repo ones at the top, I can right-click on any one to change version quickly, etc. With this new web-based approach it just clutters up the screen with information that makes it harder and slower to do what I need to. It's a shame, as I had really hoped that the replacement for PwS was going to keep the good parts and improve on it.- 42 replies

You really need some instructions/guides on how to use this. As it is, I'm afraid it seems even less intuitive than PwS is. Where's the settings to specify my game and mod folders, or launch parameters? How do I use the "Full web-based collection management" to create a collection that includes my custom repo mods?- 42 replies

Problems running ArmA 3 on dual-boot Win8.1/Win10 system
doveman posted a topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
So both my Win8.1 and Win10 installs point to the same folder for My Documents (F:\Data\Main\My Documents) which has the "Arma 3" and "Arma 3 - Other profiles" folders under it. I haven't used Win10 much yet and I don't think I've tried to run ArmA 3 under it before yesterday. Anyway, it worked initially but the next time I tried, the Arma3.exe process launched but that's it, no splashscreen or anything even after waiting much longer than normal. I saw the BE process as well sometimes. I was using PwS to launch but then tried with the official launcher (after clicking Play in Steam) and even with a batch file I've created for starting it with my mods for emergencies. Then I rebooted back to Win8.1 and had the same problem there. It's been working fine under that so it must be something that Win10 did that broke it. In the end, I found that I had to rename the My Documents\Arma 3 folder (to Arma 3.bak) and launch it with the official launcher, which created a new folder and Arma3.cfg file. I tried launching with my batch file but that didn't work until after I'd launched with the official launcher once. I then copied the backed-up files (from \Arma 3.bak to \Arma 3 and it still worked, so the files were obviously not corrupted. I only really needed to copy the Arma3.cfg, as the profile I use is in "Arma 3 - Other profiles" and the two profiles in "Arma 3" are just redundant ones created automatically and named after my Windows usernames. So what could be causing this problem? I obviously don't want to have to keep recreating this folder every time I switch between Windows. I haven't actually tried running A3 under Win10 again yet but I'm pretty sure that's what I'll have to do until I find the proper solution. When I was trying to get A3 working under Win10, I tried turning UAC off (bottom of slider) in Win10 but then A3 wouldn't load at all, even if I set arma3.exe to run as administrator in it's properties, so I had to turn UAC up a notch and then it prompted me to allow A3 to run. In Win8.1 I actually have UAC completely disabled using this registry tweak http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/2434-disable-uac-completely.html Apparently that breaks the Start Menu in Windows 10 though! I haven't tried this method yet http://www.ghacks.net/2015/08/22/make-uac-prompts-less-intrusive-on-windows-10/ -
I've just got my DIY 3-LED clip working with my PS3 Eye cam and FTNoIR for DCS World but it wasn't working very well in ArmA. I'm going to use Opentrack from now on, as it has some features that the current version of FTNoIR is lacking, so I was wondering if anyone has a good OT profile for A3 that they could share?

I share the disappointment with the new system that others have already expressed, so no need to repeat it. Hopefully the devs will keep the old fatigue system, as an option at least, for those of us who want to play A3 as a mil-sim. If it's an option we must be able to force it on with a server setting for MP, no way should authors be expected to edit all their missions to toggle on the old system. I do have a suggestion that I think is in-line with the expressed design goals and would add a further tactical element. I understand that IRL soldiers often drop their backpacks before assaulting the enemy, so that they can move faster and more freely. This is somewhat impractical in A3 though (certainly I've never done it) as you'd probably never be able to find your backpack again, particularly if you're with your squad and you all drop your backpacks together. IRL you'd probably be able to quite easily identify your backpack from the others but in A3 it's not really possible to tell which was yours, in fact it's much harder to spot a backpack at all against the terrain than it would be IRL. So how about an on-screen marker, whether permanently displayed whenever you drop your backpack, or that only appears when pressing a key, that displays on your backpack when you're within sight of it? You'd still need to remember roughly where you left it but wouldn't have the unrealistic difficulty of spotting it or distinguishing your own from everyone else's and so people are more likely to drop them before assaulting, other than perhaps medics and AT soldiers who need to carry extra supplies/ammo and aren't expected to move up until the rest of the squad has cleared the way and so don't need to move as fast.

Discover, Play, Promote missions and mods withSIX
doveman replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
PwS not working for me in Windows 10. Even trying to go to the PwS website in either IE11 or EDGE just shows something like "Loading.please wait" and task manager shows the process is using about 33% CPU and the browser is unresponsive and I have to kill it. I copied across the program and config files from my Win8.1 install and then was able to run PwS but I initally saw the same "Loading.please wait" message in PwS. Then I let it update a single mod and when I looked at task manager I saw Awesomium Renderer using 33% CPU. I then clicked on Check for Updates (for PwS) and saw the same "Loading.please wait" message briefly and another instance of Awesomium Renderer appeared in task manager using another 33% CPU. -

I'll ask another question here. If our server uses a mod that's on Six but it has some optional configs that need to be used, currently I just put the optional files in the addons folder and upload the whole thing to our custom repo, so it's already sorted for clients. It would perhaps be better if we could just download the original mods from Six but have a small custom repo mod with the optional files in that is loaded last, so that the optional files are used in preference to the original ones but I'm not aware of a way to do that. Is it possible? -

I reported a bug 11 days ago that my group is having when trying to update a custom repo mod. It just gets stuck in a loop and gets to 100% and then goes back to 80% and keeps trying to download the same files. I've recreated it myself now by deleting the mod and trying to re-download it and uploaded logs. I'd be grateful if you could advise, as currently we're unable to use it and will have to look for alternative ways of providing mods for this week's sessions https://getsatisfaction.com/withsix/topics/pws-stuck-updating-custom-mod I also made a separate post asking for instructions on using Shared Collections, as there's barely any documentation at present and it's not obvious how to use them. I'd be grateful if you could reply to that as well, as I'm floundering the dark, without much success, at present. https://getsatisfaction.com/withsix/topics/how-to-use-shared-collections -

CO@10_Olsha_Wolfs Great atmospheric mission. Two of the camps were empty by the time we got there but maybe they fled after we blew up the radio tower! We ran into enough enemy patrols in between camps anyway, so there was plenty of action. CO@10_Lost_Pilot Another great mission. My team/vehicle got ambushed from the side of the road whilst we were searching for the pilot and I tried to push through but piece by piece our vehicle was damaged until we finally got blown up. We'll be more careful next time! Looking forward to playing as the lost pilot as well. The only thing we weren't sure about was whether the pilot would be on the same radio channel as us if he found and picked up an enemy radio. -
PwS seems to update the plugin on launching ArmA and it can't do it if TS3 is running, which makes it a bit convoluted. I haven't checked when it updates the userconfig.

It's not really portable if it requires files in other folders. Generally portable apps keep all their files in one folder (or subfolders beneath the main one) so that it can be copied to a USB stick and run on any PC. -
In that case we should shutdown all the Polish shops that have opened in the UK to serve Polish people's culture and ban Polish food in other shops and force Polish people to eat English food and never speak in Polish in public or have Polish writing on display. We don't of course, because we are tolerant of other cultures in the UK and the different cultures co-existing is what makes it so vibrant and exciting. Anyway, many Muslims are born in the UK and are just as much citizens as I am (and citizenship and one's right to an opinion doesn't depend on how much tax one pays, thankfully). It's a bit stupid having a banner saying "freedom go to hell" whilst you're exercising your right to freedom of speech to display it but being stupid isn't a crime, nor is calling for Christmas to be banned. There's no constitution in the UK saying that a person can't call for Christmas to be banned (thank goodness!) Of course, calling for people to be beheaded is a crime but I understand that the authorities don't always arrest these people as they find that monitoring them and who they talk to is more effective in preventing serious threats than just locking them up and I can appreciate that it may well be short-sighted in some cases to just lock these people up immediately, if it will leave the authorities with no targets to monitor to help identify more dangerous individuals. Some of those people may well have been locked up by now for other offences anyway. So you think that we should behave in the same way towards people as those countries that you are critical of? Yeah sure, let's all treat people as badly as they do in Saudi Arabia, that will show them  Well seeing as most of Europe and certainly the UK supports the US in everything they do, or at least doesn't do anything meaningful to oppose it, then it can't really complain if the citizens of those countries that are bombed and invaded hold European countries equally responsible. The same fear-mongering rubbish that right-wing organisations like the BNP spout to try and cause the very conflict that they're warning of. We're quite capable of preventing our country being turned into an Islamic state without civil war or removing all the Muslims thanks. I never said they were escaping from Islam, or that they would prefer to live in a secular country than one that upholds a reasonable version of Islamic law (there are many different interpretations, some more peaceful than others, just like Christianity) but if the infrastructure in their country has been destroyed by the west, or their country infested with mines by the west, or fundamentalist dictators installed or supported by the west are running their country, then they may well feel they have no choice but to flee for their own and their families sake. Anyway, some of the protesters may have been born in the UK and haven't fled here from anything and have just as much right to have an opinion on what the UK does as any other citizen. I'm not really sure what you want to defend, secularism or Christianity as they're mutually exclusive but you talk about the need to defend secularism one minute and the next you're talking about Christianity (which really isn't something that most people in the UK care about). It's funny, Islamists accused the US of being on a crusade against the middle-east and most people just dismissed that as the delusional propaganda that it was. Just as your cries of "the islamists are coming here and breeding so they can crusade against us" are. Most Muslims in the UK are decent, hard-working people and it's only a handful that get involved in anything stupid. Anyway, I doubt anything I say will change your mind so I'll leave you to it.
-
It's very naive to think that destabilising and bombing countries is unrelated to people's anger. If your country was attacked and you had to flee for your life I'm sure you'd go to whichever country would take you, irrespective of their views on vodka and you wouldn't stop liking vodka just because you're in a different country. People are welcome to say that pork is bad and should be banned, that's freedom of speech. If they start blowing up pork shops then that's a crime which the police can deal with.
-
You're being very selective with your quotes there, there's plenty of odious stuff in the bible which would justify genocide, etc but most Christians in the west tend to ignore those bits. So it's not really the books and teachings that are the problem but how some groups decide to interpret them and which bits they focus on and which bits they ignore. The west invading and bombing middle eastern countries with impunity hardly endears us in their eyes either, so it's not surprising that those preaching anger and hatred are able to get followers.

I thought he meant create a new ArmA profile, not a Windows one. Both are pretty drastic but the latter even more so, as it means switching to a new account to play ArmA3 where none of my other programs that I use with Arma3 will be setup. Either way it means losing all our key bindings, which is a major pain as it's taken me about a year to tweak them how I like them. Can we just copy the relevant config file across to the new profile to avoid that?

Ah sorry, I didn't notice he'd said that. Yeah, I agree that's not the case.
