    [WIP] OPKit: The Operators ToolKit

Well if you have a highpoly version i am sure you will bake the texture maps and go from there, i was just looking if you know how to do it. Since i have seen the previouse images, it would be a waste not to bake texture maps.

One of them is a 2000 MICH while the other one is a TC2001, i do not know if we will feature the 2000 series but a TC2001 is on our todo list.

We are currently only placing the last few pieces, but we took a binkowski to the knee and his payday was to much fun, so we are only waiting for smaller assets, that are none the less needed and wanted for the next update. Though we have to communicate inside the team to see if pushing the update back a bit would enable us to include another asset that is almost finished.

Issue with that Wansec is that it would work with the 'Insignia' Placeholder and you would have the result of using the same patch on the arm and the platecarrier. Considering the little workflow you wrote down Spartan, you are not looking to work out a highpoly version of the carrier?

There is a couple of problems that are shown very clearly with this case. First of are the "Developers" that do not care for the work the community, or rather the original content creators put in to come up with the content they are using freely. Including the fact that they talk about permissions without ever having recived any, nore accepting or reacting to the creators that are simply asking them to remove there content. Secondly you have the completly disconnected community of players supporting such project that are somewhat obliviouse about the base community inside this forum. Because otherwise the players them self would make a fuss about what is going on. So they either do not know about this or simply do not care for the requests the addon creators posted. They even support there closed community with "Donations" that only signals the "Developers" to continue what there doing, becaues obviousely people like what they are getting and would like to continue as is or even improve upon the current state. Then you have BI that has kept somewhat quiet about this, not meaning they are uninteristed, but not showing at least moral support by condeming the conduct of operations by these individuals. Having an "important part of the game" exploited to this level should at least result in a supporting statement. It does not matter if you, as a developement team of the original title, are okay with what is going on or not, if you don't comment on it in any way, people get the idea that what they are doing is completly fine with you. Hence they will continue to do as they please. The "borrowing" of content by shady individuals that do not credit the creator and even go beyond that by sometimes calling the content there own creation has been there for a long long time, but seeing how far it has escalated until this point where people fake statements by creators and openly ignore there requests shows that there is something very wrong going on. And until something is done from the official sides, this will keep happening, this behavioure will keep beeing supported by the blind or indifferent players that only see there personal fun and could not care less about the creators themself. Which could, ultimatly, lead to less content created and published openly as well as whole teams moving to different plattforms that have a higher resepcting player base or at least a more active publisher that is protecting there few and preciouse hobby developers that enhance there game and therefor drasticly increase the lifespan of a title.

Ebo files for the community. is it needed?

Yes Ebos might hurt the community, especially newer addon makers and people interistied in creating content. Then again, from a personal standpoint, have never turned anyone away asking for help, neither have i experienced anyone saying "GTFO" when i kindly asked for some helpful tipps. Ask and you shall recieve is the saying right? Ebos could help protect created content from beeing re-release with slight tweaks under a new name but as they would, most likely, involve a tool, that tool can also be backwards engineered and the ebo would just be a more fancy pbo. MDCCLXXVI is right about the Licenses and the willingness by the creators to actually defend their IP. Then again, seeing how low the respect for creators and there content is, considering the latest incidents, no one will stop at a little CC License at the end when it even goes as far as taking content from other games with huge publishers behind them. The problem isn't really that we need encrypted files or better licenses, the fact that the bastards are blantly stealing from the community, telling the creators to p*ss off plus other involved players do not even realize how much was stolen is what piles this problem up to a giant mountain of angre and hate.

@havatan19 - the Vehicles you are placing under the creational right of City Life are not made by the City Life dev team either. The might have "borrowed" them before A3L did but they are surely not there creation.

Because normal the arma community is a great bunch of people that really appreciate the work of the dedicated modding teams and members, they hand out word of gratitude, help find bugs, some even come up with solutions for problems the creators were having. Oh and the Credit them where ever they go. "Wow these vehicles looks awesome" "Yeah they are from XYZ Pack" and so on and so forth. Until this point, strict licenses that make the addon almost inacessable were not needed as the ammount of people trying to profit from it were so megerly small that no one noticed. I am saying profit not in a financial way, so you can't reply with the same mind numbing reply that must have been handed out as bumperstickers on the a3l server. Because without all the stolen content, no one would play A3L, no one would Donate to A3L and it would have never exsisted in the first place (god i wish i would live in that paralel universe)

I have to add something to that, if you are a "long time" gamer and you are telling me you did not notice any type of stolen content that at least looks somewhat familiar, you must have played Pokemon for the last 10 years before buying a fast lane application process to get into this menace of violations.

accusation [ak-yoo-zey-shuh n] noun a charge of wrongdoing; imputation of guilt or blame People do have right to be mad at A3L, no not even mad, foriouse to the point of hiring a lawyer to get the involved parties behind bars for a long time. Though i agree, DDosing or trying any other type of virtual attack downgrades you to a stage where you can at least reach downwards beyond your toes and touch there "developers" hand reaching upwards. The amount of disregard for valid licenses and down right stealing of copyright protected material does not stop at the BI / A3 level - it goes acres beyond that. The fact that they even commercialized this illegal behaviour and made people aware of this by directing them towards a website with illegaly exported assest from different developers brings this to a crescendo level of biblical proportions. Because, honestly, violations of this degree and with this kind of attitude are something this long lasting community would have never dreamed of. @ xUKz revenge: I agree some of the Signatures are out of line, even though they are completly true. No AMAR Member has made any false accusations, everything we handed to the community in this thread was researched thoroughly. Defending the A3L developers, or at least the involved and knowing parties is like defending the god damn genocide. You aperently have not the slightest hint of insight onto this matter or you would be aware that the horsecrap must drip from your fingertips after writing something like that.

Brace yourself, updates are coming. The next update won't feature much, when it comes to diversity but a pinch of mission oriented equipment as well as some more handcrafted assets that you can not just buy in a store. Progress wise we are still working on additional uniforms and some variations for our Helmets. On top of that, we are in the process of refining our M4 Model, as it is the base for all follow up models that are based on this plattform. The Model currently used in our pack sadly is not up to the standard we were looking for and therefor created some issue down the road when it came to textures and UVs. Overall the current objective is to polish present assets and stock up on the ones that missed the first release. We really have to thank BI for creating the MANW contest, otherwise we would have taken a lot longer. After we had seen what a good dedication can do to our groupdynamic, we pretty much went cruise control. The whole team is doing what ever they can, even working on each others assets because someone might be faster with a curtain toolset then others and for that, and there huge ammount of time spent in this team, i want to personal thank my team.

You could try Multi-licensing under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivative License in conjunction plus the regular APL and your own "handwritten" License. Though without any legal advisor, a handwritten license is somewhat hard to push trough in court. Though if you do not release a mod under any type of license, it is still released under your personal copyright.

Taken from the AMAR FAQ All parts of an addon that the addonmaker himself made is his own property and it is their decision how they want the content to be used. An addon or mod that is released to the public remains the sole property of the creator(s) and anyone using it is subject to the terms of use as defined by the creator(s). All addons are distributed as freeware, but freeware is not the same as open source. Freeware means that the package may be distributed freely, the BIS EULA adds the condition that this must be done free of any sort of payment, but may not be edited freely. All addons are freeware unless the creator(s) states otherwise. Taken from http://www.bistudio.com/community/game-content-usage-rules What can I do with content made by other users? You must respect the copyright of other people, not just Bohemia Interactive, if it infringes someone else’s rights then you can’t do it. Usually there is a clear license included with each work. If there is no clear license, you are simply not authorized to use it. Just because something is available for download doesn't mean that you can freely use it. Though i did not come across any type of valid license that removes a curtain party from the "allowed to use" list. Even the CC BY-NC-ND Creative commons license would not enable you to ban A3L Users from downloading your work. Especially since they apperently do not mind any type of license, as even the very basic APL, APL-SA and DML by Bohmeia do say that the creator would at least need to be mentioned. The only way to keep A3L away from your mod would not be releasing it public.

I can confirm that a variety of Models were used that originaly belong to several different Tripple A titles and were created to rather big developers. As small examples, i know some of these have already been posted but its just to remind everyone whats up, rFactor, Real Racing 3, Crysis 2 and so on. That is game content taken clearly without permission and also wrapped in a "we did all of this on our own" pack. The amazing presumptuousness of the people deciding to publish this as "there mod" becomes blatantly when you realize that, on top of profiting from user created content. Yes profiting since i assume there friendly donations would not be nearly as charitable if all the content created by other hard working authors, and again tripple a studios, would not be part of "the full package". That in return means, by being accepted as a player, regardless if you have donated or not, you gain access to material that would otherwise not be obtainable and is stolen property of a third party that clearly has Copyrights on said material. So i guess it is clear to everyone that there disrespect for authors rights goes beyond uncredited use and renaming of files in order to conceal there origin.

Thank you for your constructive contribution of obvious parts to our cause SalvaPL. There surely is some things we are still working on and enhancing. The Gaiters are placed rather small on the UV, making little use of the normal map and the textures applied to them, though that is a piece we are going to include in future updates. We are fully aware of the Mounting rails of our Ops Core Helmet currently not sitting flush with the Helmet Surface. Though it is sad that you did not realize that these "ass lickers", how you call them, are actually just members of the community that are either thankful for a contribution at all, or honored members of this community that spend there free time like us, creating content for ass clowns like you to criticize and then still use in there modpacks. Though given that fact that you are rather new to the BI Forums i guess you are the breed of the next generation gamers having there brains filled with shitty music and overpriced half arsed tripple A titles that offer them tons of content for the right price after release. In this community we love contributions so much that we sometimes overlook smaller errors and mistakes, given the fact that the established users in these forums are aware that dropping free time into something that only rewards you with a small fanbase and some virtual pats on the back by other contributors is a known fact. That is why the only criticism taken into account by contributors like us is the constructive type given by other creators that know what they are talking about. If i have mistaken you for a non-contributing senior member, i am sorry and you are welcome to create your own Addon based of the Marine Raiders in your spare time. We in return will thank you for your contribution.

For all the holes inside the model that is a really low count of polys, well done (i never really got the hang of low poly optimisation). The texture could use a little more black on the attached rails to gain a bit more contrast in relation to the big bulky body. I think dirt and dust is not really needed, the light scratches on the housing are sufficient.

Yes we will add some variety to our OPS Core Helmets at a later stage, currently we are concentrating on getting the inital content done before we drift off to far into variations of already present versions.

Just to let you guys know, we would have updated on Sunday, but sadly we were missing completion of 3 components we defenitly want to put into the update. One component needed to be remodeled half way as we forgot some parts (jeah happens to us too). One Component still needs to be baked and textured and the last one needs to recive a high-poly, bake and texture. But luckily, that is all on my plate so our other team-members are free to continue developing more content for the pack, until i am finished with these 3 pieces.

The reason we are working on updates, apart from the obviouse fixes is that we were not able to get all the content in we wanted for MSOB yet. The release was more of a "hey we finished a version for MANW so we might as well let you have a look" situation. Obviousely there was and still is a good ammount of content, specific to Marsoc, missing from the pack. Therefor we will keep adding content in conjunction with fixes and slight upgrades, like the Insignia System and what not. I can not promise anything, but we are looking for a first small update arround this weekend.

that was not ment towards you or the general comunity, but rather a specific group of terrible individuals i sadly formerly belong to until i realised what went down behind closed curtains. Though there will not be a 4096px map variant made public, nore private. Yes these texture maps partially exist but wont even be created for future content. 2048 should be sufficient per clothing piece.

Little behind the scenes background while i am not doing anything. (Only because my work is done ^^) We communicate exclusively in a Skype groupconversation that was created back in 2013 May 17th, which was a Friday. The most popular emoticon used was the (hug) bear. Sadly Skype did not give me a chance to count them all but we expect a 5 digit amount of hug bear exchanged within our team. The Group includes more active and inactive duty Soldiers across the World then civilians. The Combatshirts as you will see them in the release have been totally remade at least 3 times. When we started, none of us could make a highpoly model or bake a normal map. One of our members created low polygon models so filled with ngons and tris that we had to remake about half of his models, he had to fix most of them himself. During our time as a team, we never cursed or blamed anyone of anything and actually had a very healthy atmosphere during our time. We entered the MANW Contest with the mindset of "Yeah why not". The longest consistant worktime a member has put in was about 49 hours before he fell a sleep in front of his Computer. At one point we also exchanged Images of our Work areas, yes mine was by far the dirties of them all.... combined....
