    First "Community Patch"

Someone has posted a pbo file with nightsta1ker tweaks on it and it works great for me. :bounce3: A little request to those of you who are making FM modifications, please ensure that the modification has a unique name under the ToH Expansions list (is it called like that???). While the pbo with nightsta1ker mod properly appeared as a unique name in the mod list the modification from b101_uk released as a bunch of folders with a .bin and a .xml appeared in my list as double entry of "Take on Helicopters". I understand that those releases are beta / use at your own risk / it can blow up your computer... but if we start having different patches in two days we will be unable to identify who is making what... Which leads me to make a suggestion to BIS to "lock down" the Take on Helicopters name in the expansion list for their own use. Isaac

    First "Community Patch"

Hi All, nightsta1ker, I have tested the patch and it Rocks! finally I'm no longer under the control of the helicopter, trimming is no longer a must and hovering after take off is piece of a cake. Good job. So far I have only found something that may be a glitch (and I'm unsure): Apparently your modification has pushed the potential MH6 flight envelope outside the coordination physics - graphic engine. when I'm flying a NOE pattern with the the MH6 on expert mode in Takistan with the collective at max, max speed and then I pull collective to climb a mountain the rotor goes in to what looks a severe low RPM and the 3D model slows down to the point that is possible to see each blade, the odd thing is that the RPM gauge seems to be green all the time and if I enable the virtual HUD no yellow/red light pops up. If you want to know what I'm talking about just flight this quick mission I was making, although it is very far from being finished, if you follow the waypoints you will realise what I'm talking about: DOWNLOAD Any idea? Being said that, the MH6 handling is so much improved that I will stick with this addon. :notworthy: Dave, revise your joystick settings this patch basically nullifies many of the strange forces in the MH6, by your description sounds like the sensitivity of your joystick is too high. By the way nightsta1ker may correct me if I'm wrong but I would say that this was designed to be used with the expert flight model (I'm not saying it doesn't work in the others)...

    First "Community Patch"

Hi nightsta1ker, leftskidlow, heli_flying, dirtydeeds(ziggy), b101_uk and others, Appreciated, very much appreciated... I will try it today. BIS rocks, BIS + Community rocks even further! Thanks a lot! :) PS: impatiently waiting for the second BIS patch for TOH... :deal:
  4. Hi All, Is there any one that knows how I can make an offline version of the TOH wiki so that I can use the wiki information offline ? PS: Yes, there are homes in UK that have no internet ...

    Wiki site PDF dump?

fboes, well, it is always good to learn new things, if I finally decide to go ahead with this I will ask first ... Oh, wait a second, :butbut: now I can foresee some extra issues, I didn't realized at the beginning, let's say I finally get a html render dump of the wiki database... ok, so now I have an offline copy of the same information formatted in the very same way, in other words I solved my lack of connection at home but I just made an offline port of the contents... (Ok, I have to give you that, you solved 50% of the problem :p). The reason I started this thread is to have kind of a structured PDF so that I can print the wiki FPDR and have that information, black over white, when I'm in the editor because I don't think it is practical to have more applications running in parallel... Dwarden, thanks for the link, I didn't realized of the beta status... :o Sorry about that. [Me thinking loud] How the heck those guys did that wonderful PDF? Going link by link? :386:

    Wiki site PDF dump?

Dwarden, The fact is that the system seems (I'm not sure how good it is) to be already developed but should be run on server side. See: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Pdf_Export The only downside of this method is that "only" goes down one link level, however that would be good as it limits the bandwidth / server CPU and memory required and it would be more than enough to capture the massive: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands_Take_On_Helicopters Anyway, as usual, thanks for taking in to account our feedback. Tankbuster, I know that PDF file and part of the reason I made that post is because I was wandering how those guys did it... I made a pretty extensive research and I have found many ways to do that on wikipedia (apparently they dump they XML database regularly for mirroring purposes) but not a single one that works in "MediaWiki". Thanks anyway for your spot on answer. konyo, While you are correct you would need many hours and patience to rework the (roughly) 1300 links that relate to TOH as well as to download every single page... your proposal doesn't look feasible to me, but thanks. fboes, I know this tool as well as WGET and some others, have you had any experience trying to download a wiki site? (this is not a rhetorical question) On the other hand I'm not sure this is an acceptable method (this is worse than a robot/web crawler), yes I know you can limit the assigned bandwidth but it is still a systematic dump... chances are that a firewall gets upset with such a reiterative IP entry... Thanks Isaac :)
  7. Hi BIS, Would it be possible :o , long down the road in the TOH development process, as a low priority task, to add some overlays over the image of the helicopter cameras like: Centre Thin crosshair Upper left corner Helicopter X coordinate (decimetre decimal resolution) Helicopter Y coordinate (decimetre decimal resolution) Helicopter Z coordinate (decimetre decimal resolution or feet) Helicopter 2D Speed over ground (knots or Km/h) Helicopter Heading (direction of the nose in reference to the north, one decimal of degree) Bottom centre Distance to target in metres (no decimal) Bearing to target (angle between the back-front axis of the helicopter and the camera horizontal direction, usually is depicted with an icon rather than a number) Upper right corner Target X coordinate (metre, no decimals) Target Y coordinate (metre, no decimals) Target Z coordinate (metre, no decimals) Upper centre Time of day All updated at 1Hz (or more if it is not a performance hog) I think that it would add some immersion when using the cameras... And the capability to "paint" or "lase" the target (visible scintillation), to invert polarity (in the FLIR), to stabilize the camera gimbal and to be able to lock on to anything would be nice additions although I can imagine that those last requests are more difficult to implement so nevermind... (at the end of the day to ask things is free ) Thanks. Isaac

    Music

I agree mate, I agree, it is like perceiving a world in slow motion.
  9. Hi Guys, The problem is not that the containers are not solid, they are, the problem is that in some simulations the rotor simulated down wash is an adimensional vector that departs from the head of the rotor to the ground (if flying horizontal), when that vector crosses the space in between two containers the simulation thinks that the next solid thing under the helicopter is not the container but the ground below the container and this is when the helicopter goes down suddenly.
  10. Hi Guys, I had the same problem (bouncy container), after the fourth try I got the container out of the ship (expert). I used external camera (which I see as a cheat) to make sure the position of the helo was really stable in reference to the container carrier, autohover (which again is a cheat) and really (utterly) slow collective inputs until the line becomes almost tense. Note that when the line is tense the helo may bounce back to the ship, before reaching full tension apply a fast (remember the lateral correction required) cyclic increase to avoid going down again and at the same time make sure to climb really vertical... This in fact would be required in real sea operations where you have to wait until the ship is at the highest point to start lifting when the ship goes down again.

    Maps

Hi All, Ziggy, You can open the enhanced media files with: http://www.globalmapper.com/ This software will also allow you to make your own maps if you have paid a license. Please be careful when asked if you want to open the file as raster or vector, raster will require a large amount of ram and a fairly decent workstation to work with (right now I'm on a laptop so I can't try that). Enjoy
  12. Have you landed inside the helipad circle and stopped the engine completely?

    Question about Flight Model

Dwarden| Isaac FPDR | Sorry, sorry, it will not happen again. :D
  14. What happens is that, in my opinion (you know, I also have the right to say that a mod request sounds "funny" to me), it is sad to waste human hours to model military helicopters in TOH environment when TOH flight model will be implemented in ArmA 3, if you want to blow up things ArmA 3 will provide you plenty of opportunities you only need to wait a little bit. By the way, You are playing SAR4 in Win7  ??? mmm is your joystick working fine with the game?
  15. You can install and activate the game in two different computers of your own property if you want, I have the game in a Laptop and a Desktop but you can only play on-line in one of them simultaneously.

    FlyBy View ????

Hi, I guess the point here is that DoDoSim took many years to be developed and perfected with the input of the hovercontrol.com community, the dev team was doing nothing else, it was not using FSX physics libraries, (FSX+DoDoSim) it is more way more expensive than TOH, it flies in a dead flatish boring world (please don't talk about the add ons here, no FSX addon comes even close to Seattle in TOH), it does not have any missions in a context, no music, you can't do winch nor fast rope operations, you can't do visual inspections, the graphics stink compared to TOH, the graphics are by no means as optimized (anyone in FSX has ever got more than 30 FPS persistently???), you don't have many helicopters to choose from, there is no decent editor. Is it enough or should I continue? Make no mistake, I have been using Flight Simulator since Keith Virtual Helipad (RIP Keith), but to compare a single helicopter versus a full developed world is just ridiculous. PS: that post may reflect the many years of frustration that Flight Simulator caused in me but now who cares, we have something better, long life to Take On Helicopters!

    Whales??

Ja ja ja ja :D :D :D :D It is a BIS Easter egg to endure your joystick skills :p
  18. I guess we are coming down to the metaphysics of a forum To be or not to be... :p
  19. Jeez Dwarden, didn't BIS already received enough "love" from this community (ok, ok I know, "love" and a thousand complains:rolleyes:) , what do you want, buses organized from all around Europe packed with people raving BIS personal each time that someone goes in or out the office? :D PS: If we do that, would we be invited to free beer?:811:
  20. To BIS team, Thank you very much for this excellent simulator, that not only is, by far, the COTS most accurate helicopter simulation ever but also because it brilliantly adds the mission based role playing, something never seen before in the flight sim scene. Please make sure I know when a country, I don't give a fuck which one, receives the english boxed version of TOH, at least one of those boxes will be mine. Isaac :)
  21. Please edit your post to encapsulate all the DirectX crap in a "Spoiler" so that doesn't kidnap all the thread. Thanks

Will final release have better FPS ?

Today I have a new hero, :notworthy: Have you ever though about working as a politician you would have a great career, you are capable to speak, look as what you said make sense, but actually saying nothing useful... You rock man!:mwah: :D
  23. I vote all the way in for "4 in 1" proposal! TOH civilian flight simulator, second mod proposal, Vietnam FPDR That would be fine if the proposal would be for today's Vietnam but I bet that is not the idea right?
  24. I'm 30s that's what I call a mature community! Cool No shitty hacking expected!
