  1. @NieslsS, I don't see this as a 'wanting everthing on a silver platter' attitude, its about polish. Making sure there is little to no confusion about the product. And making sure first timers, have the best experience possible.

True, but the editor should not go unnoticed for first timers. Instead of having say 30 PVP missions, have a few less and add templates or trainingmethods for how to create PVP missions in the editor. Perhaps add PVP-oriented modules that makes it easier to create them.

The editor is where Arma's strength lies, not the number of missions it comes with.

  2. Hey guys, seems like he just proved my point

Maybe my rant came off a little narrowminded but i did used the most mentioned suggestions in this thread as a base for my rant.

Now i have no problem with BIS improving the PVP side of Arma and if it atracts new players then all the better. I just took offence of your statement that anti-PVP players that only play co-op should come out of their cocoon. I stated my reason why i don't like PVP and it has nothing to do with how Arma implements it. Also CTI can be played coöperatively so saying CTI is PVP is false.

I also don't care for this "have everything given on a silver platter by BIS" attitude. The most fun i have in Arma is making missions in the editor and then play those missions with friends. I'm not saying that BIS should make very little PVP missions for Arma 3, but i suggest that you stay open to the possibility's of the editor. Would'nt it feel satisfying to have the PVP community playing your missions?

  3. "getting the anti-PVP players who stick to co-op alone out of their cocoons" would help too. :p

What do you mean by that? I find PVP to be boring, restrictive and completely against what this game is about. Freedom.

You've got this entire island or world to play in and yet you choose to play on this tiny piece of it, that plays exactly the same everytime you play it, and kill eachother.

So i would like to stay in my cocoon and create and play missions that encompass half the island, that plays differently everytime you play it, and actually forces you to play tactical. Now i know what you're going to say: "My friends and i play team deathmatch tactical". Yes the first 2 or 3 times. After that it becomes a fragfest where everyone chooses a sniperrifle and find a place to camp from. I've seen it many times with several games. It's the reason i got bored with PVP.

  4. This MSFT OS on a next-gen console can take down the remaining competition for home entertainment for Joe & Jane 6-pack: HTPCs, PC sales would suffer, if you could watch the latest movies on BluRay, suft the web and run all the latest MMOs on the XBOX 720, provided you buy a separate keyboard, and I'm sure a lot of dedicated people will do exactly that.

But that's wat MSFT wants! They don't want u to game on the PC but on the XBOX.

  5. You must be one of the few that still gets their music on CD's...and I wouldn't be surprised if you still have a VCR and record your shows on VHS tapes. I can understand this mindset if your internet connection isn't the greatest, as in most parts of the world it may not be.

I guess you didn't understood what i was trying to say. I used the "music on CD's" analogy to explain that digital distribution isn't a bad thing, i use it for different media, but forcing a DRM through said distribution system is a very bad thing and people should have the freedom to aquire their media through other means.

I don't know how old you are or what your relationship status is but introducing a woman to mountain of games you collected since you were 10 isn't very appealing to said woman, unless she shares the same interests.

You'de be surprised but seeing you have 250+ more games on me you probably know what you're talking about. :)

  6. I'm pretty certain those users that voted "No" have an Apple device, but you don't hear them complaining that they have to use ITunes to get their music...legally and without using 3rd party apps.

I get my music on CD's.......legally and without using 3rd party apps. You don't hear me complaining about it. Why? Because i don't have to install a fucking client requiring me to be online just to play the music i BOUGHT, so tell me why i should do that with my games?

Oh...and i have about 500 games on CD and DVD and never lost any of them and all are still in good condition. I know it's a nice feature that Steam backup's your games but that does not mean that we are all a bunch of douches that lose CD's left and right! :plain:

  7. if you cant work out how to use steam, then god knows how u got arma 2 plus the zillions of mods worked. Just like arma 2,s mod manager support? o wait there is none, you need to use a third party one like six updater! nooooooooooo

That is the lamest reason i have ever heard why Arma 3 should be a steamworks game. FYI i have never had any problems with mods for OFP, Arma and Arma2/OA, but have had many problems with Steam.

Steam is just a glorified DRM just as EA's craptastic Origin or Ubisofts persistent online crap. And let's not forget Blizzards fuckup called Diablo 3. Who cares about some real money auction house, i just want to PLAY THE FUCKING GAME....in Singleplayer....Offline!!!!:681: Thank god there is Torchlight 2 wich is much cheaper, has NO DRM and the best thing of all, it's not on Steam!:yay:

  8. If it's not scripted than what is it? Surely you aren't suggesting that it's real "AI" that BIS has in their game. I mean, if private and public universities with their millions in grants can't create AI, what makes you think BIS could? Hell, it took them 10 years to finally fix warping, but you want me to believe they have "AI" that's not "scripted"?

"Scripted AI" means that NPC's use predefined pathways to move around and perform actions with triggers and scripts. For example a soldier is in a room, the predefined pathways tell him to move around the room and he will always use the same route. A trigger like the player opening the door to the room tells the NPC to move to a certain location like a desk and fire at the player from behind the desk. The NPC does not think for itself but is guided by scripts. The term Intelligence is therefore a bit misguided.

"Unscripted AI" does not use predefined pathways and scripts to move around and perform actions. In the same example an unscripted NPC roams the room choosing it's own path wich means it will not be at the exact same place everytime you play that mission. One time it might engage you from behind the desk, the other time it might be laying on the floor in a corner.

Now like you said it is not real AI but it does have a wide variaty of paramaters to choose from to determine what action to take, for instance when i order a fireteam to move through a village , they are not all going to use the exact same route to get through it. Also when you play that mission multiple times it can happen that the fireteam uses a different route each time you play it. With scripted AI they all would choose the same route everytime you play it.

  9. Those games you mentioned all have scripted AI. Meaning they follow certain scripts and use predefined pathways to get where they going. It may look tactical but that's because it has all been planned out with the developement of those games. There's no actual real AI. Arma's AI is unscripted and therefore a bit unpredictable but is in a sense much more tactical than those games mentioned as they use real tactics to perform the orders you give them. It's unpredictability however can cause some frustration but i found that when you divide them into small groups they tend to behave a bit better then when u use them as a hole squad.

  10. Will they FINALLY make on online mulitplayer that will compete with those titles? As of now their game is far above those two. However I don't understand the business decision to not even try and compete in the lucrative online PvP multiplayer? They leave it up to random individuals with low populated servers. PLEASE try. You have the game, just build it!!!

I don't see the point. BF3 and COD's player base are largely playing on consoles. Trying to atract those players towards a PC exclusive game is pointless.

You are probably focusing on the PC community's. Unfortunately they're not that big, if they even still exist, so please explain why BIS should use valuable time and resources, that can be spent on important features, to create a gameMODE that competes with 2 full GAMES so they can get maybe a couple of 100 more sales?

Not really. Also i don't think anyone has bought a game, and perhaps upgraded their PC, just to play a certain MP gamemode.

  11. "We're sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren't nominated this year. We're going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide."

WTF! They are a shitty publisher. They don't MAKE games, they just turn them into fucking cash-cow's and fool the console gamers into buying all their crap.

  12. Well, after some searching i found out that i had misread Valve's explanation of Steamworks.

"A game including STEAMworks features means you MUST use STEAM in order to play the game", this sentence in particular got my alarm bells ringing and with the experience that Metro 2033 and Skyrim brought (being single player games but still having every version of those games requiring Steam) i voted no instantly. I did some digging and found out that that particular sentence only applies to the Steam version of the game and not to the versions that were procured through other distribution media.

Maybe this clarifies some things for people that confused Steamworks with having to have Steam installed to play Arma 3 even though they are planning to get at Sprocket for instance.

My final answer to the poll then is, as Steam is not and never will be installed on my PC i don't mind if Steam users want this implemented as long as it doesn't interfere with my non-Steam version of Arma 3. Apologies to everyone for being a bit ranty and voicing my opinion without having all the facts straight.:sorry:

  13. yeah but the thread is NOT about STEAM, but STEAMWORKs....

Yes, but you can't have steamworks without steam. You can't say i want to use steamworks without having to log on to steam when i want to play Arma 3. You need to take steam into account in this thread. Otherwise it's like saying "i want cheaper fuel but i don't have a car".

  14. Steam sales also have a way of wiping peoples memories clean. When any bad press comes their way they just have a big sale or give some junk away for free and it goes away.

But that's just it. As a digital distribution system it's not that bad, probably one of the better ones. A friend of mine swears by steam. Get's all his games on steam and says he gets good deals and the games are backed up witch is a nice feature. It's after the distribution part when the troubles begins and he won't hear the DRM bit, the banning bit and the problems with patches. Thankfully i was able to persuade him to not buy Arma 2 and OA through Steam. He got it at Sprocket and now we can play OA together with lot's of mods without problems.

  15. I know this going to sound super cynical, but I'm seeing some still have trouble differentiating between steam and steam works as per the thread and wonder if the BIS /community solutions will ever be enough for those that need to see the 'steam' prefix.

It's not that we don't know the difference, but rather the fact that steamworks only comes in to play when all versions of a game requires steam to run like Skyrim and that is something that most of us don't want. I personally don't use steam because it is a form of DRM and while other DRM's get chastised by everybody, somehow steam doesn't wich i find odd.

  16. If you think BF3 is a good game you must serously be demented. Its possibly one of the worst games ive played in a long time. BC2 was pretty decent and i played it quite a bit and liked it, but BF3 is well like a complete clusterfuck of someones ideas all being thrown into a steaming pile of fishshit and just slopped out for the hordes of brainless gormies to jack up their daily dose of smack.. I wont even borther to explain the reasons why i hate this game other than id rather stick a needle loaded with tabasco sauce in my cock than play this game.

Weird, as BF3 is closer to BC2 than it is to BF2.

  17. Bye arma!

    Bye Choki!

What racks my brain is that they use VBS2 and want higher fidelity graphics and then turn to Cryengine 3? Really??! Cryengine 3 is just a watered down version of Cryengine 2 to make it work on consoles with some flashy and blurry effects added to please the kids.

Unless they plan to use this simulator for Xbox Kinect i don't see this working at all.
