^^ Ill try to do that by time. To the other lightings - look at the other trees in the vanilla screens - they are basically allready this colour and they look just fine in our lightings. So absolutely no need to worry - they will fit in exactly as the others;) -

I am afraid that it will allways look more than a phothoshop filter than a natural landscape if one applies randomized algorithms=( But as we are talking - I have another but this time really simple idea for another thing which bothers me in the Arma3. While most trees look formidable in the distance - the main type of Armas trees is a bit off in colour to my fine taste^^ Example: Like it is_1 Like it could be_1 Like it is_2 Like it could be_2 A simple adjustment in the LODs is all that is needed. A bit darker and a little colour adjustment - and if one is funny- one could draw a bit more shadows on the lower leaves.^^ -

It is allready...and its exactly the same texture overlay as in takistan OA...^^ The thing is...you got the very same texture over every terrain...so if you got white sand and green grass in the distance then the texture will lay over both...and that looks pretty unnatural. Granted - 2007 that was allright - and still in the very far distance thats still a very good solution! But at distances of 100- 500 meters thats just disgusting=( =*( I want Arma to be great! And the graphics part is a huuuge part in that=( Btw...didnt they say the satmap resolution should be 4 times higher? Great work! Way better than I thought! But sadly I cant atm=( ---------- Post added at 07:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 PM ---------- I think of a system that lets you lay another high resolution satmap over CERTAIN parts of the island. This way you could refine ONLY PARTS that would otherwise look bad. You could for example put another high res texture over the side of a hill - blending over in mid distance - but spare out the forest on top of it because the trees are good enough as details. This way the framerate impact could be a bit lower maybe? It would also reduce the work. At the moment the whole sat map has the same resolution. The mid range map would not need such restrictions maybe? That also had the advantage that one could turn these mid range files off - for low end systems... I bet the programmers will kill me with words when I would suggest that to them=) But still - thats the nature of them:P Even if it would work in the end - the complaints and stuff are part of the work^^ At least it was like that in my 3 years in the gaming industrie;) Ps: I liked our programmers^^ -

Bushlurker I saw that you allready accomplished some great stuff with your lost world tech demo. Seeing this it becomes clear that you allready got visitor running with arma3 stuff! And since you were a well known name in the Arma 2 mapmaker scene I am sure you got your stuff together. Could you pls explain me which files I need to exchange to be able to produce a Arma 3 map? I would greatly appreciate your help! And I dont expect a wonder here^^ Only the basics. Best regards! -
Eliteness some things to go into the readme

It seems there are several EliteNess versions which dont fit to certain DePbo.dlls. The readme tells you to use DePbos higher than a specific version - but even though I took a higher version EliteNess wouldnt run. After experimenting with different versions it finally worked. There should be a hint in the readme to try different version or at best - tell you what versions run with each other. Also - I read in another thread that the DePbo.dll should be put in system32 - and if you are running a 64bit system into wow64 or sth. That advise came by Mikero himself but well this is not described in any readme of the dll. Also - I dont even have a wow64 folder in my win7 64bit. What I got is a Syswow64 folder. There should be a hint in the readmes about that too Best regards -

No it wouldnt - I had to download another versino of the dll - but I allready had a version which regarding the readme would work. Simply it didnt. This is just a advise to help newbies getting into it - if the installation procedure in the readme is not even followable all the time - what to trust then;) Greetz -

Ok I have taken my time to get into the game files. I managed to get right into the map layers and am able to take a look on how many details there are possibly at stratis with the current resolution. I have to say - as it is there is no way to improve it................... But there are some ways to change things: 1. increase the satmap image - that would indeed bring us a performance draw back. Also it calls for a lot of work for bohemias artists. 2. implement something like a mid range texture set. This would decrease performance too and would cost a lot of development work...but the system as it is seems pretty antique...there needs to be some improvement to get in line with other modern fps (graphic wise). I want to explain the rendering process of the map for a second so everyone understands where arma stands. At the moment the whole map is based on one big satelite image. On top of that image are all the objects like houses cars vegetation etc. Now if that would be all - you would have pretty blurry textures under your feet - so in your close distance there is a "close up" texture aligned around you. This texture is based on - I for now call it a - information-picture. It has the same size as the satelite picture but indeed works like a big map with different colour that stand for different grounds - like sand, gras, cement etc. Based on this picture is the surrounding in a decent radius around you aligned. Now to make the things a little bit prettier you got some texture overlays for this and that - thats for example the little detail you see in mid distances. Sadly this is a small file that is set together in infinite numbers and sometimes doesnt fit to the grounds very well. So as a summation - we got one big picture and for close distances we got a high resolution generic texture. For close and for far away - thats works really well! Close up Far distance but the mid distance really....sucks=( And it hurts myself to say that because I really love the idea behind Arma=( (I even bought Arma2 and OA three times to support BIS^^) So - since we are in 2013 and not 2000 - there MUST BE a solution for this! Either increase the overall island resolution - or create a mid range system for distances between100 and 300 meters! I think apart from the development time and cost - the second one is the better idea... Greetz and best regards.... Ps: If you guys want to take a look at the satelite picture for yourself - I could post a picture - but I am not sure if I am allowed to do so since its BI-property. But simple instruction: Get Eliteness 2.95 running and DePbo the "map_stratis_data_layers.pbo" the "S_###_###_lco.paa" are the satelite image textures. You only need a texture viewer to take a look at them. -

So yesterday I managed to get my first pbo unpacked^^ I am very new to Arma modding. i allready found a map from Stratis in the pbos but the resolution was only about 2000x2000 px - which seems way to low to be the satmap. Also it appears the mco file is exactly the same as in Takistan. Can someone lead me to the real satmap? Also: Am I understanding this right: I will have to unpack EVERY PBO miming the maingame structure into a a3 folder in p:\ ? And how do I relink the bulldozer exe? Or is this even important? (I read somewhere someone ran Arma 3 stuff with the OA bulldozer exe) Greetz! ps: Basically what I am trying to do is reworking parts of the satmap layer to increase details - for that reason at first I will have to make sure there is even room for more details and then trial and error my way to a satisfying result^^ The graphic part is not the problem - I worked 3 years as a backgroundartist - but the work with Arma3 style systems is new to me. So thanks again for any help=) -

I really really really hope you are right. But as I said - to be honest I dont think the mid range textures are dummies. I rather think that stratis is final graphic wise. But...that would be a really big disappointment for me=( Ps: Again - the close up and the far distance look astonishing! But sadly - the main engagements will happen at about 300 meters - exactly the range of that average detail. -

Thanks for the link! I allready was working through this tutorial=) But unfortunately I still dont have a clue on how to get Arma3 maps working there. It seems I have to somehow put all the .pbo files into the ca folder in p:\ the thing is I dont know how to that=/ I used Mikeros Arma2P to convert all files. And since I am no programmer I dont know how I could possibly rewrite it=/ Any help? -

Regarding the tank sounds - steel beasts pro is definately a good source to get the sounds right! Also - the communication inside the tank should be very similar to this game. This would improve the command aspect a lot. -

An easy to imlement but very usefull improvement to the tank usage. "Beeing able to change stance/crouch while looking out of the tanks hatch" How its now What I would like to see Basically you should be able to decrease your profile while looking out of the hatch. Its something you can see in Steal Beasts for example. While in Steal beasts there is the ability to move up and down the hatch without any restrictions - its not really necessary to have that implemented into Arma. But a simple "lower stance" while looking out of the hatch to reduce ones profile would add a lot to the immersion and would be comparable easy to implement - since its basically just a different position for the soldiers model. Also - since you can allready move your soldier to the sides and front in Arma 3s helicopters and unarmored vehicles - it seems to be even a smaller task=) Greetz! -

Pretty much the headline... I run Win 7 latest version and Daemon Tools lite (which create a simulated drive too) but that drive is "H" not "P". Also "P" is not forgiven and I run the installation in admin mode. Any help? Greetz -

As I wrote two times before - I am pretty sure that the mid range textures are the "final ones"! So yes - feedback and/or complaint are reasonable. This is the time to say these things. -

well this would be possible if the mid range textures would be improved. At the moment the texture resolution is high - but the details on it are low. Read this(1#) and this(2#) Greetings!! Ohhh and btw...Camouflage in the way you guys above think of it works in ONE WAY in the game. If you are on a hilltop and behind you are trees - then you can lay on plain ground and still be invisbile! Wanna example screen?;) -

AGAIN I HAVE TO POINT OUT: Increasing the details on the mid range environments will NOT have a drawback on the performance since the resolution is ALLREADY HIGH ENOUGH. Example pic1 ---- Example pic 2. Both pics have the same resolution - for those guys who dont understand what I say...And the second pic is basically the same as the first - only blurred and with a rando texture above it. Thats exactly what BIS did. They had a blurry texture blurred ground and put a texture over it. I hope you guys NOW see why the current texture has much room for improvement without beeing a performce hit at all. The landscape simply lacks DETAILS in that textures! Also - I DONT THINK THIS WILL CHANGE BEFORE RELEASE since the current state pretty much looks like Arma and Arma 2 landscapes just a bit improved <<<and thats what they most likely will be confident with! So we need to point this out to them to get a change!
