    Project RACS

Sekra- Is that PRACS TS server still up, or has the protocol for joining these MP games changed? It's been a while, but I'd love to help out, given I've got a little bit of free time on my hands, for once.
  2. Ah, see, I had a feeling; same camouflage and all. I'd be more bummed that my dreams of an OFP/WiC crossover are once again dead in the water but... well, maybe that's doing the world a favor. The climax was going to be a fist-fight between Bannon, Guba, and a wild boar. In space. Thanks for the answer!
  3. Could be worse: You could be like me, and never finish making a mission. 2006-2011 and I've STILL got no idea how to script a proper dialog sequence. It is my not-so-secret shame... Hey, by-the-by, if I may ask, I'm a bit curious about what the story is with these fellows. Are they still in the pipeline, or were they replaced by a newer model? Mind you, I'm perfectly content with what's already on display, (That Cobra. Sweet jeebus.) they just remind me of a Yeah, Maleshenko was a bastard, but he wore a beret and gave speeches synchronized with jet flyovers; the twelve-year-old in me thinks that is THE COOLEST THING EVER, and I'm inclined to agree. XD
  4. Haha, I'd be honored! Thank you! Yeah, even though a lot of my performance woes were probably related to my old ATI 5770, the improvement is still pretty noticeable. In all seriousness, I was REALLY impressed by the look and feel of the vegetation; even though it's a remake of an island from a game released ten years ago, I think CWR's Everon is the most realistic-feeling terrain I've seen yet. The attention to detail is evident, for sure.
  5. Admittedly, my initial reaction was... slightly less subdued- "So... how long has he been dancing like this, Sergeant?" "Three hours." "And all because of a field of wheat?" "Far as I can tell." "Weirdo..."
  6. You guys have NO IDEA how awesome this mod looks on a new graphics card. Seriously, amazing job on all accounts! With the few niggling cosmetic bugs that kept grabbing my attention in the last build squashed, I think it's safe to say this is going into my mod rotation pretty much permanently. Also, the new vegetation on Everon is particularly nice! Especially the wheat. It feels... faster than the older wheat. Like some sort of ultra-optimized speed wheat. I don't know what those farmers on Everon are using as manure, but it works.

Funny, and here I thought we had been playing the same Domi match on Friday. They seemed pretty formidable to me! :P@Otherconversation- I wouldn't go so far as to say they could take over the world, per se; I mean, sure, there's a lot of equipment to choose from in this mod, but that's just because there's a full order of battle on display, with vehicles and equipment from many eras of service available. You have to remember that, realistically, the RACS probably wouldn't have every asset available at all times, and some of these vehicles, if I remember my fluff correctly, are probably only used in VERY small numbers, or as reserve units. That being said, they're still a hell of a lot more formidable than the OLD RACS! There's only so far choco-chip camo and a vaguely spaniterranian feel can take you...

Been playing around with V2.075 in my spare time, bug-hunting and the like. Gotta say, Wld, this mod just gets better and better. Your patience will be rewarded greatly, folks, don't doubt that for a second! I'm actually thinking of breaking my self-imposed ban on MP play either tonight or tomorrow as a result- any other TFL folks gonna be on the testing server around... now? Or, yanno, roughly 9:00-10:0 PM pacific time? I'd love to accidentally crash helicopters into- er... conduct meaningful testing of the addons with you.

Ah, yeah! I was having quite a bit of trouble hunting those down, thanks for the links! Now, if only Skyrim wasn't adding further distraction to my already absent free time... /firstworldproblems

"Hey, this is a nice massive pack of units, weapons and vehicles, but you should totally make it work 100% flawlessly with this OTHER massive pack of units, weapons and vehicles created by some person you may or may not know with a different work dynamic, plans and ideas, all while balancing the workload you've already got on your plate. You know, if you're not too busy..." I'm no addon maker or scripter or... pretty much anything outside of a glorified amateur photographer, but... yeah, I have to agree with Max, here. You can't blame someone for not forcing such a workload upon themselves, ESPECIALLY if they're doing the work for free in the first place. Way I see it? Users like us defer to the whims of the mod-makers, not the other way around.

Ah, there's the rub. If the errors are only with ACE or another mod installed... then how is it a problem with just PRACS? Sounds like it's a compatibility problem, in which case, it's up to the addon makers to decide whether or not it's worth addressing. Given the amount of work already on Wld's table, (Read- A LOT) as well as the stance on compatibility quoted above, I think it might just be a tad unreasonable to think he's going to spend his time hunting down compatibility errors with another mod when he could be, you know, working on his own mod. To quote my 90-something year old aunt: "Che sarà , sarà " What will be, will be.

    MCC Sandbox - The Mod

It may just be a placebo effect on my part, but I'm fairly certain that you can also get spawned groups to move by changing the position of their zone. I just recently did so with a group of Marines, spawned them on one side of Chernagorsk then changed their zone to be on the other side of the city. I swore I head the squad leader issuing move orders, but... well, then I accidentally killed myself with a flying truck.Test it out for yourself; I think they mention that in one of the tutorials.

    Arma 2 Addon request thread

Oh, that would be too cool! Thank you so much, Abs! I know there was an addon a while ago that added a few odd headwear items like a monocle and a paper bag and such, but, sadly, it lacks an eyepatch. Which is silly; is an eyepatch not the staple of the greatest of 80's action heroes? And villains? And... well, pretty much everyone in an 80's action movie, really? The 80's had a thing for eyepatches. And synthesizers. The former has aged more gracefully than the latter...

    Arma 2 Addon request thread

All right, I have an incredibly stupid, spur-of-the-moment request: An eyepatch. Yeah, like pirates and whatnot. Don't ask me why, but I've got this sudden urge to run around on the Khe San yelling "ARR!" and "YO HO HO!" and such, and I can't do so without a proper eyepatch as eyewear or a custom face or... however you'd use modding-magic to make one. I tried threatening my copy of CO with death unless it made this so, but I think it's just sore at me, now. If anyone wanted to make such a (stupid) dream a reality, well, I'd be thankful. Not an urgent request, though; I'm sure this sudden burst of toddler-like ambition will pass.

    MCC Sandbox - The Mod

Certainly; as of my most recent testing, I can verify this problem with both Vilas' Polish forces addon and his weaponholders pack. I don't think the issue is relegated to just Vilas' work, mind you, but those are the only ones I can confirm off of the top of my head. Hope it helps.

    MCC Sandbox - The Mod

Hey, don't know if this is a known issue or not, but group selection for non-vanilla factions seems to be a little off. Some user-made factions' groups just don't show up in the spawn menu, even if they're present in the regular editor. It seems like this may have something to do with how groups are created in an addon's config file, but as I'm not terribly code-savvy, I can't be sure of that. Beyond that, though, I'm having a BLAST with this mod. Just spent enough time NOT killing people with flying trucks in the 3D editor to learn how to add units to my squad, so my possibilities have seriously opened up. Hellooooo massive joint-ops missions!
  17. Ooh! I guessed correctly! How many points do I get? Good to hear! I love your ANA and IDF addons, so I look forward to these fellows as well. Might even have to get my lazy butt moving and take some proper screenshots again...
  18. someguywho, are those some Libyan rebels I spy? They look pretty freakin' ace! Or... Libyan... former-rebels-but-not-quite-yet-government-troops. PC terminology is confusing...

All this lack of free time hurts so very much when I see what's coming down the pipeline. Anyone seen a particular blue police box that I can swipe? When I've got the time, Wld, I've got a few questions about force composition and such that I'd like to ask. I've got a few ideas for a bit of mixed-media stuff I'd like to eventually try. I'm learning a lot of nifty things in my two-dimensional design course that I'd love to apply to something like fictional news reports or stories and such, showcasing this and other mods, you know, but I don't want to make up information about squadrons or important figures of somebody else has a fiction already in place that I could work off of. Not to mention the time thing. Seriously, anyone? Blue box? Maybe... occupied by a guy in a bowtie accompanied by a comely Scottish lass and a male nurse?

    MCC Sandbox - The Mod

Oh, this is WAY too cool! You just made ALL of my mission-making (read- fussing about in the editor) a LOT easier! Good on you! However, I have one concern- You don't seem to have added the kitchen sink. Considering the wide range of porcelain and plumbing-based functionalities it adds, this is an outright travesty. /badjokes But, yeah. Soon as I can, I'll give this a go. Day = Made.

    Emita City - Arma2CO Island

Honestly, I didn't even notice the satmap and ground textures until you mentioned them! XD And believe me, I will! You've got my endorsement, whatever it's worth, and expect some screenshots when I'm... not busy or lazy. YEAH!

    Emita City - Arma2CO Island

Oh, man, what a nice surprise! I gave the city a whirl, and from first impressions, everything runs smoothly- no really serious lag spikes, aside from a few hiccups upon first load, no error messages, and the loadtimes aren't TOO atrocious. Anything else is a product of my crappy graphics card. (which is soon to be replaced anyways. Helloooo, GTX 560 TI...) The city itself is gorgeous, really well laid out, and it's quite clear where all the time and attention went in the making of it. I love the little touches like the billboards and signs; really feels like a "lived in" place, which is hard to do in ANY medium. All in all, it's a wonderful town! Also sorta reminds me of an... Eastern European San Diego, with the military ports and layout and such, which is a big plus, as it's one of my favorite cities around. (and as an added bonus- far fewer hobos!)

    Blake's AI Forward Observer

It may come as some shock to you, but I generally play alone. XD (And 38 Grads? Totally work. I'm hell-bent on upping the ante until it doesn't!) Debug mode, eh? Nifty! At this rate, I might have to start designing actual missions. You know, having one guy in your squad as the designated "spotter" makes for a great layer of added detail; as long as the guy lives, you've got a lot of firepower at your disposal, yet it's not terribly unbalanced because you've not got that human level of precision in where and when the shots are called. I'm loving the emergent benefits of such a simple system.

    Blake's AI Forward Observer

Yeah, I get you, there. When it comes to the default weapons, all you really need is a mortar battery in most situations. It also helps that they're the easiest to place. A ranging algorithm would be a godsend. That, or some way of determining the distance between two units on the 2d map. There's probably some sort of reference grid already built into the map itself, but I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to math, so I haven't figured it out, yet. Oh, yeah, I've got a few ideas myself for the big guns, mainly for ambiance, as you said. Though, my approach to the problem of accuracy is... a bit different. this setvariable ["Size_Group",38,false]; I think it essential to testing that I... see if that works. With Grads. On Zargabad. Pyromaniac? Who's a pyromaniac?
