  1. I'm still reasonably new to the game, but I'll try to answer as best I can. 1) To repair them, you need get into the helicopter, turn on the battery and move the cyclic and collective in all directions (and to their limits, I think). 2) I asked about this same thing before and never got a response. The FLIR in the medium helicopters can be used by a passenger, by going into the middle seat and using the monitor in front of them...apparently. I never was able to control it, just watch it. The camera only seems to work in missions which automatically give you access to it. I've only ever seen the searchlight working in one of the time trials - in one of them it's night time, you have nightvision and a searchlight. From what I can remember, the searchlight couldn't be turned off, but I could be wrong. I was REALLY disappointed that these features don't actually seem to be controlled by the player. I was also disappointed that there were no challenges/side-contracts which made use of them. 3) I don't think so - I just use the pedals, but it seems unstable when I do that. Perhaps there's a way and I just haven't worked it out? 4) If you mean the textures of the ground, there's a simple solution - set the video memory (texture cache? I can't remember the name of it - the setting above texture quality) setting to "default". For some reason, setting it to even "very high" actually sets it much lower. I played the entire game with the memory set to "very high" and thought the textures looked horrible. Found the "default" fix online and was blown away by the huge difference in texture quality. Hopefully some of that helped. Post back if you still have issues. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
  2. From what I've read elsewhere, the mission actually works fine with the unpatched version of the game. Patches have changed the flight dynamics and damage model to the point that finishing that mission is extremely difficult (relative to the difficulty of other missions). Apparently this has also affected the time trials. I really wonder how realistic the over-torquing of the medium helicopter is. It feels like you can push the light and heavy helicopter significantly more than the medium, without over-torquing. With the medium, it seems like the mere act of attempting to yaw while taking off with the collective raised to the bare minimum is enough to generate yellow-level torque. I try to avoid flying the medium whenever possible, because it seems to break if you don't fly it like a hot air balloon.
  3. ToH: Hinds has got me really interested in Mi-24s. After playing around in it quite a bit, I've found that I greatly prefer the V and Superhind models to the P model, simply because of the P model's fixed gun (GSh-30k). I find that it's really difficult to hit anything at range with the fixed cannon - adjusting for distance is difficult when aiming upward isn't so simple in a helicopter. It's also usually impossible to hover while firing (since it's fixed and you will need to aim down at your target), so I'm usually moving at quite some speed toward my target, making aiming more difficult again. Not to mention it's extremely difficult to hit another helicopter with it. So, it got me wondering: why did the Russians "upgrade" to the fixed gun. From what I've read, they wanted more power than the 12.7mm cannon gave and the 30mm needed to be fixed in place. Apparently the Hind pilots loved the new fixed gun. So, now I'm wondering whether other people who are more skilled at piloting the Hind are able to use the fixed gun effectively at range and/or in hover; or if Hind pilots simply used the cannon in close-up strafing runs. Presumably, they also never had to shoot down helicopters with it. Is anyone here able to use the fixed cannon on the P model effectively? Do you only use it close up? Are you able to hover while using it? Are you accurate or do you just spray and eventually hit? Does anyone know anything about Hind tactics and can tell me what they were with the unfixed cannon and the fixed cannon (and if they changed)?

    Thanks for the Patch guys

Yay! Thanks for the patch everyone! I love that BI still create such awesome content patches for their games almost a year on, even when they're busy with their flagship game. I really appreciate it :) Edit: how bad would it be if, say, someone had ToH installed twice on their computer (once from retail, once from Steam) and then applied this patch (the one downloaded from the website), but apparently applied it to the Steam version? I may or may not have just done this <.< Is it an easy fix or do I need to reinstall/uninstall? It actually seems to be working ok, although it didn't create a shortcut to Rearmed, so I'm struggling to work out how to launch Rearmed properly. On a possibly related note, I can't get Combined Ops helicopters to start. Also, I only see missions from OA, despite having A2 installed and I've combined them to have CO. Any idea when Steam will patch the game?

    Mi-24P Fixed gun use

Which part are you saying is a bug? The fixed gun is definitely meant to be fixed (as in, you can't control where it aims other than by moving the helicopter), since it is in real life. Or did you mean something else?
  6. You'll need to patch it - it will be version 1.01. Go here and get the 1.01 to 1.05 patch. Unfortunately Ausgamers don't have it (it's the site I use for fast downloads - I'm in Australia too). There's also beta patches that you might want to test and soon there'll be a new patch which fixes a few things and also allows you to "sync" Arma 2 and TOH so that Arma 2 is played using the TOH engine.

    Medium Helo Issue

I'm using the Steam version of TOH too and the beta patch installs ok for me. Make sure you're trying to use the beta patch from the official site. Download the latest one from there and then just run it. I actually have both the Steam and non-Steam version installed on my computer (long story) and it still seems to patch it fine. Also, make sure that you use the beta patch shortcut (it's located in the TOH install directory - for some reason it isn't put on your desktop). It took me a while to work this out before I actually got the beta patch working, lol. If none of that works, post back here with any error message or other details.

    Unable to view Manual

Try using this link from Steam: http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/65730/TKOH_Manual.pdf. If it won't open, right click and click "Save link as", then save it wherever you want. Open it from where you saved it and if it still doesn't work, it might be an issue with your Adobe Reader. Also, this sometimes happens to me with online .pdfs - just check to make sure the Adobe Reader plugin is installed and up to date. Mine sometimes uninstalls itself :S

    Mi-24P Fixed gun use

Yeah, since I started this thread, I've had a look into Russian tactics with Hinds. They all seem very team based for sure. One that I thought was interesting was that they'd form a circle around the target and strafe around in that circle, firing down onto it. I think I'll need some rudder pedals (and a joystick) before I try that, though! All of them seemed similar in that they involved constant movement and coordinated teamwork.
  10. Awesome! Thanks for all the work that's been put into this. I'll try it out soon.
  11. Yeah, it took me a while to work that out the first time. Have a look at the target location of the beta shortcut - it's crazy! I can never remember how to write it, so I always have to copy and paste it if I want to run mods with the beta patch.
  12. OK, thanks heaps for the reply :) I might start playing on a bigger map than Utes - I find that I either steamroll the enemy or they steamroll me on it (that is, one of us wins really quickly), so I never get above 2000 supply (I'm guessing a gunship/attack heli costs more than that). Now that I'm getting the hang of it (thanks to your help) I'll try to take on one of the bigger maps. Wish me luck, lol.
  13. Did it install without an error? If so, have you made sure to run it from the Beta shortcut (in the same folder as the ToH .exe)? If you've done that, it should say "1.06.96166" somewhere (bottom left, for me) on the ToH menu screen.
  14. Awesome, thanks for all of that! It makes a lot more sense if I don't think of it as Warfare, lol. It seems more dynamic than Warfare, which is nice (troops come in and do their own thing without requiring strict orders...I hate being a General, lol). I'll try out reducing the numbers on my side too. One more question; how do you get vehicles? I've taken a few light vehicles from bases, but how do you get planes and helicopters and tanks? Is it through the Reinforcement menu, same as the troops? If so, do I get a vehicle by itself or will I get a fully manned vehicle that I can then take over control of? If that's the case, how would I go about getting control of a plane or helicopter. Again, sorry if this is a really basic question - I'm new to playing these types of mods (sandbox mods).
  15. I can confirm that it worked for me on my 1.05 install. Also, thanks for the fix - no more cockpit disappearing :D Also, also, that's great news about the full patch coming soon. I'm really looking forward to it!
  16. This has been great so far, but I'm having trouble working out how to play it properly. Until now I've just been running around recruiting a few soldiers and attacking the enemy, taking bases and enjoying the awesome scale of it all. Now I'm trying to work out how to do...everything else, lol. I've played through the tutorials on base building, commanding, etc, but the interface doesn't seem to be the same for construction/communication in this mod. So, I'm going to ask a few questions and if they're really simple or have already been covered, feel free to ignore me (though, pointing me in the right direction is always appreciated. 1) How do I build things? I can't even work out how to build an HQ, so I just set it to spawn with one. The option for the build interface never comes up in my scrollwheel action menu, like it does in the tutorial. Once I've got to the HQ, I can pack it and unpack it, but I can't work out what else to do. How do I build things like a helipad? 2) How do I upgrade the HQ more than once? I've upgraded it once, then packed and unpacked it and the upgrade has appeared. However, any time after that, whenever I select HQ upgrade, I get a message on the far left of my screen saying "ase upgrade" (it's clearly cut off, so I'm assuming it says "please upgrade"). I can highlight it, but clicking with middle mouse on it does nothing and I have to get rid of it with backspace. 3) How do I call for support? When I try to, it tells me I need to set a point for the support, using the comms menu 0-8-5. 0-8-5 is HQ upgrade, at least for me, so I'm not sure if it's wrong, or if I've completely misunderstood? 4) How do I make other squads? How do I control the squads on my team (a whole heap spawn at the start and run off and do their own thing)? 5) Do the resistance team add players to the game if they aren't a third team? By this, I mean; if I set them as friendly with the west (for example) and have the east as the enemies, will the west have more men than the east? If so, is there a way to have no resistance? When I play on Utes, my team completely tramples the other team and I'm certain it isn't because of my awesome commander skills (I have none, lol), so I'm wondering if I have more men on my team than the enemy, because I set the resistance to be friendly. I think that's all. Pretty much; how do I play? lol. Sorry if this is really basic - I swear I've looked everywhere to try to find out how to do these things, but I just can't seem to work it out. Many thanks to anyone who is able to help. And thanks very much to markb50k for the great mission (well, missions - I loved Lost) :)

    My large flying object demonstration

That. Is. Awesome!! Are you able to walk on it while it's flying? That would be so cool :D I haven't played around with the editor much. Is this difficult to do? Are you able to make a mission with this awesome mothership? How does it fly?? Just a lot of helicopters attached, flying in unison? I think I might have to finally go and use the editor... Also, the video apparently has 0 views, but I watched it to the end, so I think the counter isn't working :S
  18. No problem; I'm happy to help :) I think the Desert Combat helis were what made me start loving helicopters - they weren't all that realistic, but they were just so damn cool :D
  19. Hover in the helicopter and see if it works. Then, move forward slowly in the helicopter and see if it works (but a little less effectively). If this happens, then it's working exactly as it should. Anti-torque pedals only yaw the helicopter at low speeds and allow the helicopter to strafe at low speeds too. However, at high speeds, they don't do much. IRL, all I've noticed is that they slightly rolled the helicopter (an R22) at high speeds. If this "rubber banding" still occurs at low speed, something is wrong. But it sounds like you're just expecting the helicopter to do something which it can't.

Yep, you'll be able to use them perfectly. Rudder pedals are almost mandatory for playing the game on expert (the hardest difficulty) because of the torque induced yaw modelled in the game, plus it should make aiming at things easier (if you end up using combat helicopters). Just make sure that if you find flying too hard at first, that you set the difficulty down a bit, since that makes the flight model a little easier. Also, you might want to adjust the deadzone of your joystick to be zero (i.e. no deadzone), if possible - I find it makes hovering easier and certainly is more realistic.

    No Multiplayer servers .

Yeah, I usually only see 2 to 3 servers up and all of them have 300+ ping (I live in Australia). I think most people just don't play ToH multiplayer. From what I can tell, it's just single player challenges/time trials competing against other players.
  22. I've found that I can't get out of the Hinds in the challenge missions either. In freeflight and user-made missions, I can, so I assume that it's an intentional design choice to stop you from getting out in the Hinds challenge missions.
  23. I didn't realise you could access the flashback missions from a menu - I definitely don't see them on any menu and can only access them through the objects in Joe's office. I've definitely never been able to change the heliport to South Asia. I'm not sure whether my game is really broken (since I can't see what you can) or your game is broken (since you might not be meant to see the South Asia map on the mission screen). Where on the mission screen are the flashbacks listed? In with the main story missions or in their own folder?

    Mi24-A, Krokodil

I just downloaded this and had a fly around in it. It's awesome! I don't know why, but the A version of the Mi-24 is my favourite and this mod does it great justice. I read on the previous page that you didn't think you had time to put this mod into ToH. I was wondering, now that it's a few months on, is there any chance you'd be able to put this into ToH, using the Hind flight model? If not, would you consider putting it into Arma 3 when it comes out? I'd love to fly this with the new helicopter flight model. Anyway, great work and thanks so much for making and releasing this :D

    i need help

Well, for me the file is 150mb and it would take me longer than 24 hours to upload it, lol (Australian upload rates are usually REALLY slow), plus I'm not sure if we're allowed to upload it. You could try contacting a moderator or developer to ask them if it's allowed, but they don't seem to come to the ToH section much. If you've got the Steam version, verifying the game cache will find the file you need to download and it will download only that file, which would save time. It's not anyone's fault that the file downloaded corrupt - from what I can tell, it can happen with any file download, unfortunately. Sorry that I can't be more helpful.
