  1. Well the F-bombs aren't odd or off. Maybe you're not around people like this, but most of the people I know swear/curse in everyday language. And, especially for US soldiers, that's very commonplace.

    You should have a userconfig folder in the downloaded rar or zip file. Put that entire folder in your Arma 3 directory.

    No, what you mean is that there is no other developer, with another engine, that's chosen to do all the things that Arma does. I would expect, that if a AAA developer with a current gen engine chose to make a competitor to Arma, that they'd have more success. BI's engine is outdated, and their company is fairly small. Yours is a hypothetical, but again it's not a major cause of performance problems. Nor is it necessary to have islands as large as Altis. There is no real advantage except for marketing purposes ("we have a very large island where others don't"). I agree. BI are doing the same thing that Infinity Ward/Treyarch are doing, using an old engine and try to make tweaks and adjustments to it to make it seem up to par. Problem is, the heavily modified id Tech 3 engine that they have been using and modifying since 2005 only features small maps and rather bland graphics. But they're doing the same thing. BI's engine is old, too old.

    What wouldn't be boring to me would be a Pacific island or something that resembles Korengal Valley, and no, that's not like Takistan. But I'd expect the former, but not really sure if they'll do a big expansion pack like OA anyway. Even if they do, it might not connect story-wise.
  10. No. Movement in Arma 3 is leaps and bounds above that in Arma 2. Although, for the stances, I'd rather have had something like Medal of Honor Airborne/2010/Warfighter, where you hold a key and move your mouse up, down, left or right, releasing to return to your base stance, making those stance changes useful in their proper place, cover. But there's nothing wrong with the new movement system really. I'd say that the casual, lowered weapon stance should be changed to low ready for your rifles. The current low stance should be kept for your machine guns and your sniper rifles.

    Honestly, the large map isn't the thing that affects FPS the most. I don't understand why we're debating the size of the map. It really doesn't matter that much. What affects FPS the most are the trees, and even more, the amount of AI and what they are doing. If you had a large, Altis-sized, empty desert, it wouldn't do much at all to your FPS. But put a lot of trees on there, or put a lot of AI there, and have them fight each other, and you'll see FPS drop. It's not about the engine properly handling the terrain. It's about the engine properly handling AI and vegetation. A BF-sized map full of trees (let's just say one of the forests on Altis) will drop FPS more than Altis in one of its more open areas. A BF-sized map full of opposing AI will do the same. Not about the size of the map. It's about what's within your view distance (trees, buildings, or nothing) and about how many AI and what they are doing. For example, for me Takistan runs much better than Altis, not because it's smaller, but because there's less clutter. For me, Chernarus runs worse, because there's arguably more tree clutter.

    @A3MP - ArmA 3 Map Pack

    Dude, there's really no point for this mod if the maps aren't in there. For the pbos with only the wrp files and configs, the total size is 472MB. That's a fraction of the total size of this mod (4GB or 5GB + some change). The rest of the files (all 3.5GB or 4.5 GB of them) are all the terrain data that's associated with those maps: plants, rocks, water, etc. So it's really not worth it. Besides, some of the community maps might not work at all without the actual map configs. The point of this mod is to be a sort of standalone AiA (but only the maps). Meaning you can have the vanilla maps without having to have the other games installed.

    Well, that's why you'll have other terrains to go back to... For me, another environment with mostly vegetation would get boring real fast. I'm all for a Pacific island, but tropical jungles to me aren't much different than forests. I want something less taxing on my PC, and something vastly different. Arctic environment is different, and would be great if BI had accompanying assets for it. Other than that, I'd want something a bit tropical (maybe a chain of several fairly sized islands), but it'd need large medium and small ships to accompany it.

    Yeah he doesn't have the rights to put 3rd party maps in this. But, generally, A2 3rd party maps depend on the A2 vanilla terrains, so having the vanilla terrains allows the 3rd party terrains to work mostly (he needs to change the door UI to point to A3 UI, fix ponds, etc). I don't get that message though. Are you sure your CBA is up to date, and that you're only using the CBA_A3 version (should be beta 4, released last July!)? Also, again, what map(s) are you getting this on? Definitely keep all files of A3MP, as believe it or not all A2 3rd party maps depend on the vanilla maps. Hmm. You know what, I have most of those. Not MCC_Sandbox or TAO Foldmap or ALive. So, my first thought would be to see what happens when you don't use those. TAO Foldmap shouldn't matter (but I don't use it because it lags. Takes forever to come up, drops FPS, etc. Don't know why). But my first guess would be that it's something with Alive or MCC Sandbox. Then again, can't be certain. I'll see again if I get this. Also, what missions are we talking about?

    Jungles, maybe. FPS-dropping tropical jungles. Either that, or some snow environment. Can't think of much else that's extremely different than Takistan, Altis, and Chernarus.

    Well then Alduric was just wrong. AngelWingGamingJacob just missed it then, just like Alduric. Because you can't see it everywhere and at every angle. So it's easy to miss. You clearly missed the point of this mod. It's so that you can have the terrains without having to have an installed copy of A2. If you want that method, go download AiA instead. Maybe your problem is that you're trying to use this mod AND use your NTFS links as well. Pick one or the other.
  19. Yeah, that doesn't make sense. I'm trying to help you out here. Canton-Protocol suggests one thing above all: China. Canton is in China. So CSAT most certainly includes China as a member. Also, actually do some research on the SCO. You'll see that Uzbekistan does not border China, and that the SCO is really just an eastern military and economic alliance. It's pretty much the eastern NATO. But whatever, your story. Just trying to help. Not trying to be rude, or tell you how to do your mod. But it's the same reason I did SCO for my mod, and not SCO+CSAT. It's redundant.

    I want Win to have different characters than just Kerry. Tank mission as a different character. Jet mission as a different character. Helicopter mission as a different character. Special operations mission as a different character. Want them to bring in all the other characters they originally intended to feature back in 2011 as well.
  21. Nice to see someone else besides me sticking to the SCO instead of the fictional CSAT (on that, it should be either CSAT or SCO. SCO is really the real-life CSAT, just without Iran as a major player). Glad I've engendered some SCO love :)

    Yeah, I think he only meant for Chernarus and Utes, and I think it's because he removed the ponds, whereas Clafghan, Aliabad, FATA all have ponds (their above ground, or underground like in Aliabad). It's the ponds that're causing the issue.

  24. If you don't know what will happen, how can you then put yourself out of harm's way? In other words, the bad game design is requiring some foreknowledge of what's going to happen in order to succeed. Otherwise, you'll just end up in harm's way and dead. That's what MAXZY's saying. If that's the only way to succeed (knowing what's programmed to happen next) then it's faulty game design. You should be able to succeed without having to know where the enemy's coming from or whatever.
