General Discussion (dev branch)
RSF TheCapulet replied to DnA's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
I frequently do this while bench shooting. It's completely possible, and frequently done. Perhaps not frequently in battle, but that doesn't remove the possibility. It's a simple trade off. Would you prefer to keep your eyes on the target while reloading? Then do it. But you'll lose most, if not all situational awareness. As far as seeing what you're doing... I could clean my rifle in my sleep, let alone just blindfolded. I think reloading is something that most soldiers do so naturally that they rarely if ever actually NEED to look. (though I imagine most are taught to look anyways, as a matter of fundamentals) -
Was more of a selfish suggestion anyways, since it'd mean I could edit some stuff myself. heh. Really looking forward to plugins though. Great work! I take that to mean a background updating service, since it'd be impossible to update the main files while they're in use? (I assume that's the need for a new installer for major upgrades)

Given that his name is JohnBravo, he seems capable of getting everything but spelling and prepositions mostly right, and he has an English icon and a mission called "BritishLion", English being his primary language is a fair assumption.

A troll is any common internet idiot who, despite posting potentially lengthy bits on the open internet, brings absolutely nothing to any conversation ever. They excel at wasting time, being anti-productive, and appearing unnecessarily rude to everyone they come in contact with. If you've not figured it out, read most of the replies to this thread. These forums have a hilarious tendency to reflect trolling back on blatant trolls 10-fold. Always worth watching. And seriously.. if you're 47 years old, why are your 6 posts made with the linguistics skills of a 4 year old?

Depends on what you view as a solution, Xeno. On a technical standpoint, sure, you're absolutely right. All of the same shortcomings are still there. But from a player standpoint, from someone who only cares about how it appears during actual game play, there's no argument. It's better, hands down. In vanilla arma 2, CQB is ridiculously easy. With the HC, I'm almost always out-gunned. Same mission, same situations, etc. Are you really telling me that's not a step in the right direction? -

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way disagreeing with you. But the HC ai is definitely an evolution, and a serious step in the right direction. If they can integrate it's capabilities into the server itself without the need for a HC, then it would be a massive step towards solving the issue. Hell, realistically all they'd have to do is remove the client requirement, and integrate it into a background service that connects to a 'server' when it notices one up, along with custom parameter possibilities to look at external addresses as well to enable HC networking. Ai would improve and no one would notice a difference aside from the improvements. But obviously the problem is a bit more complex, other wise they'd have done it long ago. In the mean time, I'm using it to great effect, and my AI are tearing me a new ass on a regular basis. I think what I was really trying to point out is that it's not quite worth raging yet, considering the ground they've covered already with the HC. There are improvements happening, and they're making big impacts. ---------- Post added at 07:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 PM ---------- I've only ever tried with Benny's warfare mission, which has the functionality already built into the mission. You just have to set up your parameters correctly for the arma2oa.exe, and it connects to the server and just works. But here's a large thread discussing the HC and it's implementation. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?143565-Post-here-all-what-you-know-about-implementation-of-the-headless-client-in-missions -

RSF TheCapulet replied to DnA's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Have you used the HC BB? The AI's reaction time is infinitely better. Yes, client run AI is terrible, and we can all agree that it needs some serious improvement. But before you start raging, try the method out first. It actually does make a hell of a difference, even with just a single AI. ---------- Post added at 12:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 AM ---------- It's available in both A3 and A2, and is used to great effect on the server I play on most. If you want to see it in action, visit this server: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/5.9.50.115:2300/ And your right, it is a dedicated server (though atm limited to running as a client, minus the rendering) running all the calculations. But in this way, it allows another client outside of the server app to calculate all AI simulations separate from the server either on the same machine, or another networked machine to a much greater effect. -
Do i have to buy a new key?
RSF TheCapulet replied to benji_boy1225's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Maybe instead he meant, be a little more responsible with your computer next time? There's no innocence or guilt in this situation. It's simple, a key was used to hack, and it was banned. Fault, though, always falls on the key's owner. -

Reload animations (in the final game)
RSF TheCapulet replied to Flogger23m's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
DayZ is including tactical reload features, helped along by changing weapons to true objects which can hold it's own strings, isn't it? If this is the case, how hard would it be to transition the Alpha to this system? Now would definitely be the time to do it, before more weapon content is released. And wouldn't this method also provide the capability for more weapon animations, since lots more states can be saved to the weapons in strings? -
Good points. Though I still disagree with your interpreted spirit of the rule. And I do apologize for that assumption. PS. Your search link goes nowhere. Back on topic, full speed ahead! :)
-
Lol, whatever dude. It's neither relevant nor accurate. DayZ is DayZ. Zoombies is another zombie sandbox ported from portions of the DayZ codebase to Arma 3. DayZ is a standalone brand, related specifically to the DayZ SA and the DayZ Arma 2 mod, hence an entirely different mod in an entirely different game. Battlefield 3 is entirely unrelated to this discussion in every way. But... here it is too: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?127670-BattleField-3&highlight=battlefield created by Dwarden no less. BigBear is right, this is a clear cut case of taking a rule too far. ie - ignoring the spirit of the rule to focus on it's pedantic non-semantic points to attain your own goals (rather than the goals of the rule itself), which in this case is alienating modders and players simply because you don't like them. In the legal world, we call this abusing the law. On the internet, we just call this lame and anti-productive. Considering how quick the moderators are at squashing topics that truly are out of bounds, I think we can safely say the decision has been made on this topic. They're the moderators, let them do their job. I doubt very much that they need your help.

Have you guys considered making the UI customizable? CSS based perhaps? That'd be perfect at this point. So if someone doesn't like the UI, they can go find one they like better, or make it themselves. Also, for the upgrade harassment issues that Gnat was whining about, why not make a separate installation executable for major upgrades that tailors it's dialog to that specific situation?
-
Again, you're holding prejudice against a mod simply because it's enemies are covered in blood before you shoot them, rather than enjoying and discussing the sandbox and modding capabilities of Arma 3 that enable wildly varied types of gameplay like the fictional zombie apocalypse. The spirit of the rule isn't based on prejudice, but instead on keeping support requests on the DayZ website where they belong. Have you seen any support requests in this thread? I'm not even going to bother addressing your absolutely terrible analogy. ---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM ---------- How much permission do they actually need? How do other variants of DayZ solve these purported legal issues? DayZ: Origins, DayZ+, DayZero, DayZ Retro, DayZ Redux, etc (these are just the ones currently in PwS)

Thanks! I figured the theme selector in the page footer was the only way to change it. -
Nope, it should be there. Are you sure you got the right filepath? C:\Users\$user\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA
-
Problem with your reasoning: this is "Zoombies" not "DayZ". Those rules were put in place to prevent the BIS forums becoming over-run with DayZ noobs looking for technical support for a community mod. It was not to prevent any and all discussion about a subset of mods for the Arma franchise. Though it should have been posted in the mods discussion section instead.

Probably has a lot to do with the font. The Purista font is vastly better.

Will 64 bit run better than 32 bit?
RSF TheCapulet replied to knightswatch's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The single biggest performance improvement for Arma came from the SSD I bought last summer. It really is a night and day difference. But if you have exuberant amounts of ram (or plan on upgrading the ram to go along with a 64-bit OS upgrade), don't discount a ramdisk to push all your Arma files on. Just keep in mind that you may run into bandwidth issues at 1333 using a ramdisk. You definitely need 16gb of ram running over 1600Mhz for a ramdisk to be truly profitable. Try it on much less and you'll run into extreme performance dips when both the texture streaming and normal ram usage easily oversaturates your memory bandwidth. I will say this, though unrelated; 64-bit OSs are more secure than 32-bit ones. That in itself is reason enough to upgrade. -
Why are people so uptight about a mission/mod pack for Arma 2 and Arma 3 showing up in their noob-ridden forums? I'd much rather have intelligent discussions about DayZ here than the completely useless dialog with most of the zero-day noobs that frequent the forums nowdays. Dont forget: Arma 2 and 3 are Sandbox engine. It enables us to build and play nearly anything we fancy, be it milsim ops, zombie survival, modern rolelplay RPGs, or even medieval warfare. Don't discount one mod simply because it's enemies are covered in blood before you shoot them.
-
You'll probably have to edit that one on your own. You'll find a ton of help on how to do that in the Warfare BE thread. You could also find a server running an ACE and ACRE version of BE and go play that server. Then you'll have that mission in your app data folder.
-
Switch your gamemode to CTI, and search out some populated servers running Warfare BE.

I like this solution a lot. Thanks! Btw, is there a reason I can't change the forum theme anymore? I loved the dark theme. Too much white gives me a headache. -
Been using this since not long after you released it on the TS forums. So far, I love everything about it, 'cept for one thing. It seems to cut the server banner out entirely. Great skin aside from that. Finally one worthy of switching away from your steam skin.
