If your squad is on foot without AT/AA, and you see an AFV/Tank/Attack heli, then you've made costly mistakes. If you're on foot with no AT, your objective is to avoid being seen by attack vehicles, not trying to zerg rush them like a (dead)fool.

ATOC and plant foliage size
RSF TheCapulet replied to 45359237's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Like MissileMoose said, run 2x AA to keep the performance hit as low as possible. And you might try having it set to all trees instead of all grass and trees, since grass looks ok in most cases without ATOC. Keep in mind, ATOC is applying AA to textures that have transparency, such as leaves and grass, thus revealing more of the texture. ATOC can't run independently of the engine AA though. So the higher you set the AA, the better your foliage will look. (Chernarus on 8X is amazing and fps killing) -
Are you trolling, or am I just missing large parts of your conversation?

All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3

Zargabad isn't working for me. I've only tried it and taki though. Came here to figure out what was up, since I haven't used the mod in a while. Using Dev Branch btw. Hope it gets fixed soon. :( -
Uh... Don't put your weapon down then? You're the one tapping double crtl here.

How is this on topic?

General Discussion (dev branch)
RSF TheCapulet replied to DnA's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
This ties in slightly with the tail end of the discussion in this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?155262-Pistol-animation-is-bad&p=2402132#post2402132 No matter what the weapon is, a pistol shouldn't be pulled unless it's absolutely necessary, such as a primary weapon jamming or running out of ammo. Even with a huge .50 cal, estimated point of aim firing will always be more effective than pulling out a sidearm in nearly every situation. Voted on this ticket. -
You misinterpreted what I said, either intentionally or unintentionally. I in no way said that Costa and Haley's small arms tactics are the be all, end all. But they do show a good representation on how it's trained and practiced in most situations. (Military and police) With this in mind, I wasn't saying "BIS DO THIS OR ELSE, YOUR DESIGN SUCKS!!!11one", I was saying that these guys show how it's done, which can be learned from and used to expand the design ideas for a lot cheaper than a typical military or police advisor. The entire point of an Alpha is to give the devs feedback on what we think. How we feel about decisions they've made, etc. And quite frankly, you have no idea what my experience is within this realm of expertise, and I've said nothing to suggest it otherwise. So keep the veiled attempts at insults to yourself, Chortles.

If a third party did end up porting Arma 2 and Arma 3 to linux, I'd have no more reason to run windows.

This. BIS doesn't need expert advisors to help them figure this kind of stuff out. Chris Costa and Travis Haley have already done all the work and released it in the "The Art Of ..." series DVDs. Art of the Tactical Handgun, Art of the Tactical Carbine, Art of the Tactical Shotgun. BIS, buy these DVDs and have a movie day at the office. Your game will be better for it.

Non HC maps don't have the open civillian slot for the HC to drop into.

Obviously not the topic or goal of this thread. But... You'd be surprised how long a man can live on adrenaline when pumped full of bullets. Not long ago I read a story where a city officer pulled up on a man in a car parked in a suspicious spot. When the officer approached, he seen the man accidentally spill an alcoholic beverage trying to hide it from him. When the officer addressed the issue, the man stepped out of the car, pulled a gun, and started shooting. They ended up on either side of the car shooting each other, and before it was all said and done, the perp had 38 rounds in him before he finally went down, while the officer had 12 in him that missed his vest. For most standard department firearms, that's 2 reloads (3 mags) just to bring one man hopped up on adrenaline down. And that's not even figuring inevitable misses that occured. (So likely it took many more rounds. The story was pressing the importance of having a backup gun and plenty of ammo, since said officer only had enough ammo because he was lucky enough to end up trunkside so he could retrieve more mags) Arma's ballistics are realistic. Arma's wounding system is the problem. Should they replace it with a proper bleeding system, this wouldn't be a problem anymore.

Read this post: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?155262-Pistol-animation-is-bad&p=2399388&viewfull=1#post2399388 If you still fail to see the point, visit youtube and watch some guys like JJ Racaza, Chris Tilly, or even better, Chris Costa. Watch how the professionals do it, and then review your own ideas with a bit of education. And you think the same rules don't apply to real life? It looks stupid because you don't know any better. It looks unrealistic for the same reasons, and because you've only ever seen it done in other games that are even more unrealistic. Natural arm movement isn't going to happen with a weapon in your hand, no matter what. If you've got a loaded gun in your hand, you're not going to be swinging it about in one hand because you value your life, and everyone else around you values theirs. When you're holding something that has the capability to end lives with the twitch of a finger, you handle it carefully. You change your habits and movements to protect it, yourself, and those around you. And you train that way. And you keep training that way until you fall back on your training in all situations, stressful or not. Because that's what professionals do.

I've only seen this problem when the server has a Headless Client running that crashes. Then AI that belonged to the HC don't give bounties when they die.

Grass Texture Bug help!
RSF TheCapulet replied to TacticalRecon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
A link to the screenshot from any image hosting site would be fine. And if you think a mod might have messed it up, listing which mod/mods it was would be helpful. If you're using steam, go ahead and validate your Arma 2 files to start out with. If not, then reinstall the game. If that doesn't work, post here with screenshots and the mods you think messed it up. -

No one will be able to reproduce your issue without screenshots and a list of the offending mods in question. It's akin to yelling, "I HAVE A PROBLEM", sitting down and expecting it to resolve itself before your eyes. -

"This has happends for a long time ago ever since i insatalled a mod" You left out some important information in this sentence. -
Agreed. Honestly it was a well made and realistic animation. Will be sad to see it go.
-
I've done a few excercises sprinting with a pistol. Have you ever tried sprinting with your arms down at your sides? It doesn't work for precisely the same reason the animation has the gun up high. Center of gravity, balance, And momentum. And from that position, you can still push out to your pistol combat stance, rather than swinging your gun up and then down as you try to center it with your point of aim. If you need examples, check out some competitive pistol shooting videos on YouTube.

Not supported for my Toshiba Thrive. :( What does this app do that a tegra 2 can't handle? -
Try running IRL with a pistol in your hand. If you're doing it like Arma 2 animations taught you, good luck not shooting yourself in the face. The new animations don't look "bad", they look realistic. Pistol running animations in Arma 2 is NOT the way to handle a firearm safely, period.

Ok, maybe not a solution, but a fix. If it means the difference between 50 server fps and 20 fps during town activation, I'd say its the best solution we could hope for given the mission type and the engine.

What if there was like an In-Game lobby kind of thing? When you spawned in initially from the slot selection menu, you weren't transported to your teams HQ, but instead moved to a staging area outside of the map. Here, you wouldn't have any view of your initially chosen team, and you'd have no map. A place where you might even be able to select your initial weapons based on the team you choose or the server chooses for you. Where you'd be able to select your specialization. And most importantly, a where the server can decide what to do with you without you seeing anything you shouldn't. ---------- Post added at 03:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:08 PM ---------- Headless client solves this problem entirely.

Warfare BE Neptune edition 073 on FR servers
RSF TheCapulet replied to kotov12345's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Isn't this something you should bring up on their community page? They've not released their version here, nor upstreamed their changes in any way. What makes you think that posting on a seemingly random forum would result in changes to their personally edited mission then?
