Several crashes in the last few days: need info on reporting them

I apologize Focher, I missed that link. Thought it was something else. My fault. -
really... no omnidirectional movement?

Not that I remember. If it was, I really don't see myself having insalled it in '07. I've never had GFWL on my PC, but I've played through the Crysis 1 SP campaign multiple times. -

SO much better. Thanks SB, I'll get all my issues thrown up on it today. -

I concur. While BIS likely has no plans to change this, I think it's definately something that should be featured. The 360 controller can get you around all of the menus just fine (and like sakura_chan says, there's already mild support for it in the form of 360 buttons showing up in the UI), so there's really no reason not to make it completely accessible IG as well. Maybe I just want to sit back on my couch and do some sightseeing from my HTPC/Steambox? *shrug* But I don't care nearly enough to make my own ticket for it on the tracker. (I'm lazy) But I'll certainly vote for it, if someone posts a link. Keep in mind, I've been using a gamepad controller on PC long long before console controllers were interchangeable between console and PC. PCs certainly also use controllers by design. -

I have a pretty modest request this time. Can we get an emoticon for the " :P "? And if you do decide to add one, can you make sure it's not too "fancy"? lol -

So I got on the GetSatisfaction page today to try and upload those logs, but I just couldn't get signed in no matter what I did. Using latest version of Chrome. Whenever I try to post, of course it pops up and asks me if I'd like to log in. When I click on it, I logged in using steam, and it seemed like everything went smoothly. But on the previous page, it said "waiting for you to log in..." So I closed out of the login window, and tried to post again. Didn't work. So I reloaded the page. I noticed I wasn't logged in up top. So I tried to log in up there instead. I then went through the same process, only this time I was already logged in to the pop-up window. But the previous window continues to tell me it's waiting on me to log in. So I attempted to log into the previous account I'd created there. After a while of trying to remember the password, it also logged in just fine on the pop-out window. But again, no changes to previous behavior. At this point, I can't post anything on there. :| I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I miss dev-heaven. :P -

Yeah. With the boat above, I actually only built half of it, and then use the move and scale tools to copy and mirror. Dead useful. -
Arma3: Metascore 73 | Spelunky: Metascore 91 | what the fuck?
RSF TheCapulet replied to alleycat's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm seeing you guys talk about 10-25 fps issues. And I'll agree, if performance is that bad for you in a bottlenecked way, It's not good at all. I may have been hasty without gathering your guys' experiencees. But from most of the people I see that bitch about it, they're generally complaining about performance around 35-45 fps, which is exactly the kind of playable performance I've been enjoying in Arma 2 for years. When I came over to Arma 3, I got better performance than A2. And the servers I frequent (The ones I have a hand in setting up directly) don't have any issues at all. For instance, I regularly play on the OFPS.net server that sits full most days running benny's latest. (so tons of vehicles, and shit tons of AI) And it's performance has always been pretty rock solid unless the rounds bleed into the 6-7 hour range. So yeah, if you guys are getting 10-25 fps, I really do feel sorry for you guys, and I hope it gets fixed for you soon. But if anyone is bitching because they want their solid v-synced 60 fps (which is by far the most common from my perspective), I stand by everything I've said. -

You're not reading what anyone is saying. Try reading the opinions of those more educated on the process in this thread, this forum, the devs, other devs of other games, etc. The main issue with your point above, is the fact that this already happens by default. Your AI is already split up and run primarily on a different core. And in the mean time, it's processing path finding for micro terrain twice the size of Washington DC. Does it simulate all the things you mentioned? Nope. Can it? Yep. And what happens when it does? FPS drops even more. (Go test TPW's mod suite) I'm not even going to comment on the ROF stuff, because I can tell already there's no convincing you to let go of that ignorance. But if we're discussing optimization, ffs don't bring up the headless client. It's built for distributed processing, not for running alongside your game. (Not everyone has a 6core CPU) Wrapping something like that into the main client just isn't realistic, since it'd essentially require everyone to run out and buy a hex or octa cpu, just to play the damn game. On the other hand, if you're able to use it effectively to improve your game. Use it, don't bitch about it. Enjoy the game. -

I actually hit the same wall you did with having edges that just weren't lining up, no matter what I did. I ended up scrapping it all, and came up with this in an 8th of the time it took me to make that mess. -

I would, but I've not made anything so far that I intend on releasing. Once I learn enough, I'm sure I'll be hounding everyone with questions about 02 and how to get stuff IG. Once I get to a point where I can actually see my stuff in game, I'll throw up a WIP thread. Be prepared for those questions. I'm sure I'll have a metric shit ton of them. ;) Though I do have one question I was thinking of the other night while working on some more furniture. Can objects outside of buildings and vehicles have damage models? Say for instance, a sabot tears through some dudes kitchen hutch, I want a pile of rubble, not just some object that flops over sideways or falls through an unseen portal to hell. So will I be able to do this, or will I just be wasting my time making damage models for small stuff like that? ---------- Post added at 05:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 AM ---------- I found a site with a ton of really good (and free) ruby scripts for Sketchup. RSF TheCapulet replied to alleycat's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
By that rationale, we should demand 120 fps from FSX because performance is performance! Despite the fact that it's simulating hundreds of ai planes and thousands of sq miles, and persistent real world weather patterns. If you try to put one and two together and you still come up with the conclusion that Arma 3 absolutely should be getting 60+ fps at all times without question, then you're failing at a 2 piece logical puzzle. Comparing apples and oranges is only going to waste your time. Until you start comparing your apples to other apples, you're never going to be happy. -
Yup, and I'm right there with you. I'd LOVE BI to develop with mantle. I'd love it even more if they start work on an OpenGL implementation too.

RSF TheCapulet replied to flowa91's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
And here's the main problem; misconception. The AI, within the client, are also using different cores. The real problem is that the simulation thread is stuck on one core. But there isn't really a realistic way to fix that. Can they split the thread up on different cores? Possibly (most likely). But what would it really do? Lets say you split it so the simulation thread is using 4 cores instead of 1. Then you have a set of simulations on one core that could possibly be finished, but it'd still have to wait on core 2, 3, and 4 to finish it's simulations before it could combine it all into something meaningful for the engine/client to use. So what are you doing while you're waiting for those threads to finish? Experiencing low performance, because the stuff that NEEDS to be done, isn't done, and now every part of the engine is waiting on it to catch up. So when you look at it with some logical flow, you realize that even with concurrent threading, you'll still be waiting on that simulation thread to finish, and then when it's finished, you have to wait for it to all get put together into something usable (un-needed overhead). And as for your examples, I'm not sure comparing systems with much less complicated worlds that have much much smaller simulated systems to work with is entirely fair. Rise of flight renders a terrain without micro detail, far less AI that don't really require a lot of processing overhead for pathfinding, and a less demanding graphical engine. Quite frankly, if ROF is using 100% of both GPU and CPU, it's wasting resources, not using them. It's simulating flight characteristics. Arma simulates nearly every interaction between anything interactive. -

What I really need is the crash log location. And thanks for assuming. The thread was very descriptive, as I wasn't seeking out information for any specific crash. Just as my OP says, I'm looking for where the crash logs are so I can actually lend a hand to the devs and send in my logs as well. Now lets talk about what doesn't help. -

Just because it's capable of using some of the same functions that DX does, doesn't mean that it's a simple copy and paste job. It may use the same flow, but it will be different, and it will need to be specifically made to work with mantle. And not only that, it'd mean that there would suddenly be two graphical pipelines that they have to develop, debug, and monitor. It's not cheap, and it's not easy.

RSF TheCapulet replied to Fushko's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Just to clear this up though, Arma 3 doesn't use tessellation. What you're seeing is probably more crisp bumpmaps. -
At what moment did you realize the magnitude of these games?
RSF TheCapulet replied to iceman77's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I didn't find the joys of OFP/Arma till Arma 2. So for me, it was Eagle Wing. Starting the beginning of the mission, I didn't think much of it. A pilot of a heli killing a few simple targets while I'm artificially limited as far as altitude goes? Just as I was about to admit an underwhelming defeat and quit, it took a surprising turn and gave me the best atmosphere from any game I'd played in a long time leading up to it. Walking around a desolate ash filled hostile territory, hearing various battles happen around me that quite frankly don't concern me and never will. And all the way up till pulling that match, it just got better. I honestly struggled with patience with Arma 2, until I played EW. I had a different outlook on this series moving forward from that. ---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ---------- Cool. When was the last time you had fun playing infantry in DCS? -

RSF TheCapulet replied to flowa91's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Guys, we're playing a SIMULATOR! Not a level based first person shooter, but a full blown SIMULATOR! What's the last simulator you played before the arma series that avged 30-40 fps? The only ones to blame here are the ones that misguidedly set their own expectations of a game. This isn't BF3, you aren't getting a solid 90 FPS here, and bitching and moaning that your GPU isn't fully utilized isn't accomplishing anything aside from letting everyone know that you think your power bill is too low. -
