  1. did you update your drivers with win7 64 bit versions? sometimes people forget and download drivers for their old os version.

if that doesn't work, then i'm sorry. windows 7 sucks. it's a bloated piece of trash and it interacts with this game differently.

i used to play this game just fine on windows xp, now after foolishly thinking windows 7 was going to be stable only after 1 year after release and buying it, the game went from smooth to stuttery.

  2. It's freaking amazing how BIS added a new campaign and a new helicopter in the latest update! You know how many other companies do things like this for FREE? Me neither, but it's not many.

Seriously, BIS gets :ok: from me!

refusal to optimize the game sorts of offsets that.

  3. so is the voice acting still horrible or did they fix it?

if not are they ever gonna fix it?

the voice acting is realistic. watch some videos of military personnel in operation. they sound very different from their dramatic hollywood counterpart.

  4. just to close the lid on the taliban issue, since a lot of people seem to be spreading misinformation and propaganda around here:

the taliban is a government that happens to support the terrorist responsible for 9/11. by letting al-queda use their country as a base of operation, they pretty much sealed their own fate.

what bush did was actually entirely justified. taliban was an accomplice to al-queda, rather than a beneficiary. to distinguish between them would have been impossible.

it seems some people are conflating the issue of invading afganistan(which was inevitable), with the issue of invading iraq. instead of believing everything that confirms your beliefs, you should always use some critical thinking.

  5. I have an Alienware M17x with a QX9600, 8GB of DDR 1333, Dual NVidia GTX 280M's w/SLI and 500GB 7200RPM Raid 1.

Why can I only get 20FPS in Arma2? I have done EVERYTHING over the past 2 weeks to try and get it running better. It's the only game that doesn't perform well on my machine. Is 20FPS all I will get? Anyone have a similar machine?

i'm probably nowhere close to your system, but i have an intel i7 and this is a problem for me as well. fps can get to 60s, to usually, it's in the 20s because of what i'd like to call incessant stutter syndrome.

  6. that's windows 7's acpi problem. it's either hyper threading on or eist off. i prefer eist to save power. however i've used the 4-cpu command thing and it seems the performance is better...just not by much.

when i had my old 5600+ it was laggy, but at least moving the camera wasn't sluggish, now the frames are better, but camera movement is inconsistent, like jumpy. i think i might have to turn vertical sync back on, but that thing's weird.

  7. i'm sorry, i tried everything on this forum and to no avail. all i know is that the max frames ahead setting + vertical sync have great impacts on this game, but i just can't get the right combination. if i set it too high, the game will become stuttery, set it too low and it lags. set it to default and it's like a nightmare. i would really like an end-all-be-all solution here. not just a bunch of guesswork and personal preferences (ie, setting it to 2 seems to help me, etc) unfortunately is seems only bis can do this and they're not releasing any new patches anytime soon.

  8. the excuses people come up with to justify a bug/incorrect visual effect is astounding and based only in pseudo science. tracers should show up regardless if it's being fired at you or not. basic physics. the difference is in how it looks. you will never look at a tracer round directly from the front unless it's right on. in that case, you'll be dead. this thread is obviously talking about near miss tracers and enemy tracers in general.

enemy tracers should at least show up if looking at it from behind, but that's not the case either. obvious bug deserve obvious solutions, not a bunch of fanboy defense bs.

  9. that won't be necessary because i am well aware of what those settings do and most of them are off. also, print screen doesn't work under windows 7 anymore.

however, forcing verticle sync on in my nvidia panel for this application took care of the sluggishness. i think it's because the fps is constantly jumping around.

but now i still have micro stuttering. i've increased the view distance cause some suggested it might be due to loading objects, but that's not it. because having it set to something like 3000 or my default 1600 doesn't change anything.

  10. yep, also micro stutters for me.

    i have i7 930 and win 7 32bit

these are the primary culprits imo and it's quite enraging that there;s nothing you can do about it. setting render max frames ahead to 1000 just mean it's using your nvidia setting. i have mine at default 3, setting it to others don't help at all. verticle sync helps make the game more stable and less jumpy, but the stuttering is still there and it's like playing a sideshow except the fps is in the 40s. as in way above playable.
