If your sqaud kills surrendering AI, it's your fault for not ordering hold fire.and what if there are still active enemies around? no, your "solution" does not work, and i doubt you've actually tried it because the steps required to do all that is beyond cumbersome.

optimization. is this even possible?
-
that bumpiness made no sense. terrain is continuous and slopes in gradations. it is not covered in mud pillars and miniature hills.

it's a first person view, not first person camera view. you're controlling a human, not a handheld camera, therefore the occipital and motor cortices work in conjunction like a mental gyroscope to remove the bobbing of the head.
it is unrealistic. it only applies to wobbly handheld cameras seen in those action and war movies.
-
do people actually have trouble knowing what their stance is? what kind of perception problems do you have?
seriously. this is one of the more silly suggestions i've read on here.
-
see, things like "rag doll is completely unrealistic" just smacks of sour grapes to me.
-
For a very realistic ragdoll w/o bodys flying through the air or falling over in the wrong direction or looking totally spastic while collapsing you´d need some very good bullet ballistics first. And simulation of biomass, nervous system ... so no, i don´t agree. Without a deep anatomical base Ragdoll will always be what it is, a puppeteers wet dream. And then there´s more important things than ultra realistic dying pixels :D
PS: Gotta admit i like Mount & Blade's ragdoll alot!
none of that is actually required. you just need very simple parameters for directional force on the skeleton. it could be completely arbitrary and it'd still look a heck of a lot better than non-rag dolled corpses that fly horizontally into the air as if flash frozen.
i understand the limitatios perfectly, so this is not a support for ragdoll, just saying you're over complicating its application. why would you even bother to model the nervous system when you can simulate it without the excess computing power? that's what games are rooted in, simulations, not actual calculations. if everything needed to be calculated you'd need a quantum computer.
i've also seen good animation/rag doll hybrids in a recent gamecon presentation on red orchestra 2. people keel over realistically, if a person was leaning against a wall, he'll slump over it. it's all about tweaking the parameters to give the animations the correct look. games like counter strike source just never bothered with this and you can tell when people come out with physics mod that absolutely look realistic.

Agreed. I can't imagine anyone ever sweating in combat. And IceBreakr ought to have completely redone the character animations for the civilian just for this screenshot, perhaps modelled in a harness too.No, it's a fucking awesome screenshot.
sweating is fine, but it looks like the sweat has been there for years, plus the meatball stains and the fact that none of them are wearing any form of armor or strapping. do they tape their magazines to their chests?
sorry, but i have never seen pmcs dress so sloppily in my life.

i said racial minorities, east asians, hispanics, etc. and 20 percent is a very large black presence in the military anyway for the reasons i already specified, low socioeconomic background, poor education, low employment opportunities, etc.
-
great argument.
-
He wants more votes saying that? I think he is now like the most idiot politician everto be honest, i can see where he's coming from. and it wouldn't be a big loss anyway. it's medal of honor. basically just call of duty with better character models.
c'mon dude that wasn't necessary. While you don't have to agree with the war, how would you feel if somebody said that they prefered shooting at something that looked like one of your parents, or the parents of many of your friends? You are entitled to your opinion, but you might want to think before you voice it. We have a freedom of speech, that doesn't mean we should always use it.Although this entire thing is really really stupid.
don't mind him, he's a troll. he's been saying controversial things about the us military for awhile now.

high end hardware does indeed still have trouble with this game. lower the settings, and in your videocard configuration utility, for this game's profile, force off vsync, aa, anistrophic filtering, ambient occlusion, etc.
my theory has always been that the engine has trouble optimizing large clumps of polygons(forests, cities, etc)

http://latestnews.virginmedia.com/news/uk/2010/08/22/fox_urges_ban_on_taliban_video_gameWell I guess it was only a matter of time untill some vote hungry politician tried this to increase his flagging popularity. Lets hope they dont start to target ArmAII OA next!
it reminds me of that game 6 days in fallujah that got its support pulled after people made a fuss.
i don't think they can do much to big corporations like ea, but possibly can influence smaller companies like the one that made 6 days.
also, arma2 simply is not very popular and most importantly is fictional.

Hey guys, this is not to be racist, but Is there a way i can mix up the races more of my troops? it seems that 3/4 of them are black, and maybe 2 white guys. this just doesnt seem realistic, how can i fix this?well it is realistic because racial minorities tend to join the military due to low socioeconomic status, low education, and difficulty finding employment.

annie extraction pic: those "pmcs" look like bums. one even has a large sweat stain covering 2/3 of his torso. and annie looks like she could fall off at any second.

the last part is confusing. do you just wait for the heli to come? it never came and i fooled around at the camp until i threw an ir strobe. that seemed to get the helicopter's attention.
afterwards, the spotter just stands there and doesn't respond. i had to shoot him in the leg to wound him, then carry him near the chopper, heal him and order him on board.

my theory: the buildings lag really bad in this game
-
the game is like this no matter what. rise of flight is also this way because of its complex wind, damage model and bullet trajectory calculations, although it is much better in performance due to less clutter.
i would settle for intelligent simulacrums of actual calculations if they can improve performance drastically, but hardcore players might not want that, and face it, they are who bis caters to. my other theory on poor performance is that the lod system needs an update. cities are absolutely cluttered, and perhaps need even lower levels of lod switching at closer distances. and the lod system itself might not be very optimized, which is why people report stuttering in instances of rapid switching.
i have the beta patch and updated drivers btw. hardware and software's fine and optimized. other games run 80fps average, etc. basically... i have upgraded my computer twice recently, once as a performance upgrade on old hardware, and once because of a faulty motherboard. having tried several variations of hardware and settled on an i7 930, triple channel 3gb(32bit windows), and 9800gtx+, i can say it's quite staggering how little difference there is, relatively speaking, between my old amd 5600+ and my current rig.
cranking down your graphics options probably won't help either because it's mainly the cpu that is taking the brunt of the calculations. your graphics card probably isn't even being challenged. i tested and confirmed this by switching to high and low, and noticing little difference in performance.

the very things that will make this game popular will turn it into another mindless run and gunner like bf2, cod, moh.

I would imagine that other restrictions would be needed to offset the advantage of being invisible. Perhaps you can only use the suit laying down and it takes a minute to deploy i.e. put on and to take off as well. Otherwise you'll have players running around exploiting the "insta-invisibleness cloak". Anyone remember Robin of Sherwood on the Amiga 500? "huh were'd he go?..."a foliage system is already in the game. just make it so if the player is anywhere near or inside a particular piece of foliage, he will be near invisible to ai outside a certain range.
lying in grass should have this effect.

Pleasssss bring the Russian army back in the game. The current opposition is to weak. There is now fun in blowing up old Tanks like T-55 and T-34.
bring them back, but as allies. love to see russia vs afganistan 2

don't canadians use in large part american equipment? i'm pretty sure a few texture reskins would suffice.

Hi, I feel some of the vehicles aren't polished enough, especially the strykers. The up-to-date desert paint scheme and bird cage slat armor are really nice touches, but unlike some of the other more polished vehicles, the stryker feels naked.
this is what a stryker looks like in combat operation:
http://xbradtc.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/stryker_050101a_0ntyoa2005-01-31.jpg
I also feel like it is not strong enough. Styrkers are easily disabled and sometimes killed directly by rpg hits. A real stryker can withstand the force of a 500lb bomb exploding in close proximity to it:
http://www.strategypage.com/military_photos/military_photos_2004101123.aspx
all this is leading up to my point that soldiers in the back crew compartment should be able to "turnout" to mid chest level using the 2 hatches on the back and be allowed to deploy whatever weapon they are equipped on the surface of the stryker for stability and return fire.

European police aren't immune to overreacting(See London subway shooting). To be honest, I don't know why people care so much about a criminal that gets roughed up, especially when the situation looked extremely dangerous. It seems people just have a bone to pick with the police and especially the US police in general due to some kind of brainwashing by the media where they develop preconceived notions about them.
Personally, I was never susceptible to that kind of thing. The occasional inept cop does not make me think all cops or even a large number of them have issues following procedure and acting with common sense. Considering the amount of population in this country, and thus the high number of police, bad performances should be expected.
My only disappointment is that cops don't use enough force. The prisons in California are already overpopulated, I would not mind seeing more criminals being taken off the streets permanently.
Arma 2 - Female Characters?
in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Posted
i believe they are asking for female soldiers, not transexual soldiers.
