  1. @Pulverizer & DMarkwick:

Indeed, Crysis is nothing else than a corridor shooter like any other corridor shooters. It was visually pleasing, but in a way that screamed computer graphics. Effects was nice, but doesn't make or break a game. Original Farcry was infinitely much better in this respect. Those islands didn't put much restrictions on you on how you solved things. That added a LOT to replayability. Probably my most played singleplayer action shooter.

Even Farcry2 had elements making it look like a corridor shooter. Sure there were some very large areas of free choice, but there were too many where you didn't have much choice. And they felt artificially placed there, I guess to limit view distance.

what are you talking about "screamed computer graphics"? every game features computer graphics.

  2. bottomline: arma 2 is more difficult that its predecessors, therefore people who are used to arcade games simply won't enjoy it. ofp was more of a bridge between arcade nonsense and strategic shooter. it's not a sim in the sense of arma 2 at all as it still had plenty of nonsensical gamey situations.

to people used to the sensory overload provided by constant gun battles and explosions of cod and bf series, of course arma 2 will seem soulness...it's missing explosions and john woo style gun battles. sorry.

  3. because why should binkowski spend his time for someone who didn't buy CO? that's the point. he made the addon for CO / ArmA 2 intentionally (probably? you can make stuff standalone .. )

But I'll leave it to binkowski anyway.

that kind of attitude is destroying modding communities everywhere. thank you. bye.

  4. If you end up like sitting ducks during an ambush, then something is very wrong about that ambush plan :p Like, failure to see grass as an obstacle to consider, and failure not to overcome it by choosing a different location.

I don't mind high grass in Chernarus, in fact I want it, but I would like more tactical possibilities to get around it. So that when coming to a location, you can study the grass and deliberately avoid areas of high grass, and choose avenues of approach where you can actually shoot back. Overwatch positions are made a bit too difficult, since hills tend to always be covered with dense trees and tree crowns that block your view.

In Takistan (and Utes), grass doesn't pose a problem at all.

the problem is you can't position your character just right at the edge of a root, a grassless patch of dirt, or pat the grass down slight or elevate your body slighty. so the grass is indeed a problem.

  5. when i place a unit i get a no entry error related with config.bin/cfg_weapons/bink_m16a4iron_namesound. i got into the game once with the designated marksman unit, but the unit will spawn with no weapons, just a pistol. also, a related error is called m249 and m16a4iron_noanim.

i can't take screenshots. i'm on windows 7 and it just gives me a black screen.

  6. To sum up my post, I thought a Special Forces DLC would be cool to fit well with the storyline, give us some unique gear and weapons that would be more specific to SF teams, as well as give us different units from different branches of the military/countries.

Thanks for the response Royalty, and when I listed stuff about the editor, I probably meant to add in that I would like to see it in the next DLC, kind of like how we got the artillery computer and new engine features with the download of BAF. Sorry if that didn't fit in here, I just figured it'd be a good place to put it since I was already on a rant, hah.

Nevertheless, whatever BI puts out will surely be great.

special forces are already in the game.

  7. True, but games are supposed to be fun.

so give the us army water guns instead of rifles? sorry, but this is a simulator, not call of duty. plenty of "fun" arcade games out there if this one is too unbalanced for you.

  8. You'll get kicked off a good CS server if you flashbang every 5 seconds... they'll call you a CoD n00b and boot you for team flashing :)

Is it your opinion that ballistics are a significant factor in CQB? What do you figure the drop of a bullet is over, say, 15 meters? Just assume all the sights are zeroed for CQB and you don't need ballistics in a game with maps that small. Really.

Yes CS:S has probably the best CQB of any game. Would it work if you had huge maps like ArmA? Obviously not. It's an entirely different game trying to be entirely different.

Maybe some day we will have a game that is as good as CS:S for CQB and as good as ArmA for scale and combined arms.

Until then I'll continue playing both.

What loses out for me are games like battlefield which appear to be the best at neither, where they have combined arms in what amount to CQB maps. To me that's silly. Only ArmA really gives the breadth and scale to make intelligent use of armor and choppers (although I question the use of jets in ArmA, maps still aren't big enough for them). In ArmA you can put your tanks on a nearby hill and protect them with infantry. In BF games you nonsensically drive them into the thick of things be AT'd by random people. In CS thankfully there are no tanks so you can concentrate on the small arms stuff.

For me ArmA = win, CS = win, BF/CoD/etc = lose but I'm sure everyone's opinion is different.

aa3, a free game is light years ahead of css. i've seen free to play korean rpg/fps hybrids that are more realistic and involve more tactics than that run and gun fest css.

go back to your cod or whatever. real tactical shooters are obviously too complicated for you.

  9. After some more extensive testing I can conclude that it was not the rotor wash causing the drop in FPS in the laser show mission... But it is in fact the scenery and landscape behind the helicopter that is causing it, namely the trees and dense landscape.

Seems like the vegetation is the cause for my FPS drops and not the helo rotor wash.

seriously, even a desertic terrain like in oa, the trees are causing problems. this wasn't even an issue in chernorgorsk.

did they put in high poly trees? seriously, those trees suck ass and they lag.
