What is the state of the game now?
johncage replied to thewalrusking's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
crysis runs smooth as hell for me and so do all other hardware demanding games i have. the "you're doing something wrong" argument is such a lazy attempt at understanding the issue, it's ridiculous. again, i urge you to read the entire thing and realize that even the developers have confirmed the hardware that can truly run this game doesn't exist yet. btw, most people's notion of "running fine" is rather skewed. and i don't trust their standards. -
Death Valley- where is gameplay like it?
johncage replied to Dreadstorm's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
that's be fine for any other game(cod, bf, etc) but i don't think the arma 2 crowd would be too tolerant of blatantly impossible scenarios like that. my questioning was based on the assumption that he'd want his server to actually have players in them. -

a lot of people making false assumptions here. the game doesn't run well on current generation hardware, period. i have an i7 920. that's quad core. they even say in order to run it truly well you have to wait for the hardware to come out. please read the entire post and don't focus on one or two sentences. thank you. -

why would i lie about lag? it's fps lag, by the way. and it's a perfectly valid criticism of the game/engine due to the fact that even the latest generation hardware still has problems running the game. i wouldn't mind it so much, except the graphics are just above average. nowhere near crysis level. and that game still runs smoother. in fact i hear mention that the hardware required to run this game at max still doesn't exist yet. that just seems weird as hell to me, no offense. possible solutions: don't try to calculate everything. if you can get something to be within a plausible simulation of the actual physics, that's fine enough if it saves processing power. add in new processing effects once hardware exists to be able to run it. and quite frankly those guys saying it runs fine on max on their systems are either too loyal to be honest, or they don't mind playing 20fps. -
set the refresh rate in game to be higher than that of your video setting refresh rate. enabling vsync makes the game feel sluggish from my experience, but it will remove screen tearing.

gotta be honest, that never happens to me. are you using a mod?

the flash is realistic. film and photos don't often capture it due to limited frame or shutter speed. the whistle is also a realistic representation of rounds flying near you.

you disabled the ai, so the default shows up.

you report your status as wounded and the medic will come over -
those drug cartels are like factions and they often have access to equipment of first world countries. columbian special forces uses u.s. gear, pretty much. so it could be columbian(or any south american country that uses u.s. gear) vs paramilitary/drug runner faction

Question: ARMA/OA Smoothness on a 120hz monitor
johncage replied to rickidoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
just because you have an unconventional opinion and have lots of arguments/justifications for your belief in it it doesn't mean it's right. the human eye is incapable of noticing any difference above 60 frames per second. it's a limitation of the eye, not anything to do with technology. i'm not sure what 120hrz monitor is supposed to do. it probably has some benefits related to it. but i'll bet a big part of such a feature is simply to raise the price and trick people into buying something they'll never notice. a lot of audio equipment is the same way. chock full of features that are essentially worthless, but raises the price. -
i think you need to take a step back and gain some perspective. people throw around buzzwords like police state and fascism without any idea of what these words mean. at the end of the day, i can do a lot more without getting caught in the us, then i can, say in most european countries. in fact, i don't think you germans get to call anyone else's government a police state if your own government won't even allow its citizens free speech.

it looks absolutely awful. the screenshot with the two trike bikes chasing each other is the stuff of slapstick comedies.

i hope the first 2 paragraphs in your post were a joke.

attention to detail is dictated by the artist and the player's level of spatial acuity, or how observant he is. a graphics card won't contribute to it at all. if you mean detail by itself, then yes, better card means you can afford to crank up the settings which raises the level of detail. but attention to detail is separate thing.

needs a list of qualitative and quantitative differences between traditional and solid state drives. 120gb is a rip off.

ofp/arma has always been about sp/coop experiences. if you want team vs team, expect to find ruined servers filled with immature players -

you won't notice frames above 60-70. -

why would the pmcs fight with baf? they're on the same side. and even if you believe that somehow they're mercenaries in the purest sense of the word, they'd still ally with the western powers because they pay better. the takistani government or militia barely has funding for its own troops. -
